If you want me, a cherry on top, the pick of the pack,
The cršme de la crop.
If you want me you better do better than that tonight.
Oh, Oh.
If you want me, it takes more than a wink,
And more than a drink and more than you think.
If you want me you're gunna have to break the bank, tonight.
Cuz some don't have the patience, some call me high-maintenance
But you pay the bill, cuz, that's the deal.

Nikky Nikky had been paying attention to Ellie and Joe talking about schedules. Mitsukai left for class, knowing that she had missed enough of them lately. She started picking up her things. Since she was focusing on that task, she nearly jumped when Joe grabbed her hand gently and kissed it. Her cheeks turned a faint pink unvoluntarily and she bit her lip. She processed his words and nodded as a response.
She slung her bag over her shoulder and got up to head to class. As she walked through the halls, her feet leading her to her destination, her mind wandered to the speaking study sessions in the afternoon. It was something she had begun to look foward to. She knew she liked Joe, it was something she had grown to realize over the past year and a half. She did well at hiding it for quite a while, but that night by the pool back around her birthday, she let things slip in front of him. She still wasn't sure whether or not he thought it was the booze talking at the time, but she didn't want things to get weird between the two of them. He was a friend that she didn't want to lose. So, while they studied, she did everything in her power to keep things like they always were.
Nikky had been wanting to try and bring up the upcoming dance for days, but she wasn't going to ask him to it. She decided at that moment that she would ask him if he was going, maybe she'd suggest that they go as a group, her, Joe, and Mitsukai, plus others if she needed to convince him.
By the time her thoughts had quieted, she realized she was already sitting in her seat in class, notebook out, and writing notes from the board down. That was something she had never done before. Usually she would be talking to somebody, or thinking about something she needed to say so intently that she had to rush to get the warm-up on the board done. Multi-tasking, paying attention, and patience were some of the things she learned from her accident. It wasn't so bad all the time. With that thought, the teacher closed the door, signaling it was time for class to start. .

If you wanna ride, just name your price don't play cheap, with your heart
Don't make a bet if you can't write the check, for me, for me.
Cuz I can be bought, but you'll pay the cost
If you can afford me

Archimedes hadn’t slept one bit the night before, and had little sleep the past two weeks prior. He was sure it was something to do with his power surging randomly. It worked like hormones, where they fluxuated and screwed with your mind and body. Since his powers were electricity based, he had a tendency to ‘power surge’. It had never lasted this long before, though. His eyes were blackened because of dark circles, his skin was pallid, and he had a tendency to snap. He just couldn’t fall asleep, no matter what he tried. He’d tried exhausting his power, which only succeeded in causing him to have seizures. He’d tried physically exerting himself, which only made him sore and tired, but not sleepy-tired. Finally resigned to the fact that he wouldn’t be sleeping, he tried to keep himself more alert when he was awake as opposed to being a zombie.

Hence the box of doughnuts clutched in his arm and the giant cup of coffee stuck in one of the corners. It had chocolate frosting all over it, but he didn’t care; it was caffeine, and it was blessed. He had frosting smudges all over his face and mouth and hands, a few on his pant legs where he’d tried wiping them off only to have frosting reapplied as he dug for another doughnut. His stomach would not be kind to him later because of all this sugar, but it was the only thing keeping him from dropping dead. He’d have to figure out how to control these power surges so they didn’t control him.

A bunch of students looked at him like he was a rabid animal (which he probably looked like one, so he couldn’t blame them), and a few asked if he would share the love. Hell no. Of course everyone becomes your best friend if you have food. Or gum. Or drugs. But whatever. They didn’t care about him otherwise, so why should he share? He just snarled at them menacingly (and weirdly) before continuing on, proclaiming, ”Only the king is allowed such delicious morsels. Peons such as yourselves should feel privileged to smell my defecation.” This got him more odd stares, but he was used to those by now.

At this moment he was trying to find his friends. They hadn’t texted him this morning, which was unusual. They usually had breakfast together, but they weren’t in the usual spots. Cadence and Cory were probably together somewhere. It wouldn’t surprise him if they were ignoring him; he’d been kind of a douche to everyone these last couple weeks. But now he had doughnuts in which to make amends with, so everything would be sunshine and rainbows and smiles and stuff again. Okay, so life was never like that. But it would be less ‘Archie hates everyone and everyone thinks Archie is a douchecanoe.’ Yes, that was it. Onward!

…And nothing. Where the hell were they? With an aggravated sigh Archimedes set down his precious doughnuts and fished his cell phone out of his pocket. Nope, no calls or texts. As a last resort, Archimedes sent a text to the both of them.

//Hey where are you gais? I have fried sugary deliciousness in my hands.//

Archimedes had picked up on Cory’s mood as of late, even if he’d been neglecting his friends a bit. He was sure it was still about Mitsukai. Ffff. Stupid bint. He couldn’t help but feel like her mere presence in Cory’s mind had stolen his best friend away from him, even if she wasn’t even around. He practically crapped rainbows and sunshine. It was kind of sickening, actually, that a guy could get so hung up over a girl. What the hell was so special about her anyway? Why couldn't he be just as happy with just Archimedes and Cadence? Of course Mitsukai probably offered sex and love and stuff, but… Archie blushed. Stupid teenagerdom. Sex wasn’t a big deal. It didn’t even matter in life — not to him, anyway. But the fact that it had even crossed his mind caused him to fidget nervously.

The thought of sex made him think of the dance that was coming upon them immediately. Archie didn’t know if he wanted to go yet. It was a social event. He didn’t do social events. He never did, unless it was because he was lighting stink bombs or throwing snakes at people. Somehow he doubted that would be happening this year. He’d been too wired to seriously plan anything devious recently, which was bad for him. Maybe he’d talk to Cory and Cadence about it, see if they had any ideas. That was, if he could friggin find them.

Oi with the poodles already.

Cadence waited for a reply from Cory, but he was letting his thoughts stew, apparently. So, she looked out across the stream, watching as the breeze knocked loose several leaves from the trees, leaving them looking more bare than before. She caught one that was falling near her head, holding it gently in her hand for a moment to examine it. It was withered and brown, nearly the same shade as her eyes, curled up at the edges, deprived of chlorophyll. A moment later, her hand enveloped the leaf and crushed it, making a crunching noise. She opened her hand to reveal the fragments the leaf had become and let the wind carry them off to become fertilizer.

After watching her hand empty, Cadence cast a glance back at Cory. His expression hadn't changed, nor had he made a move to talk. She shook her head, frustrated, but she kept her mouth shut. She hoped Archimedes got her text from earlier. Maybe their efforts combined could get Cory to reveal what was on his mind. It was really irking her that something was bothering him that badly. What made it worse was his silence about the whole thing. She knew that he was stalling earlier, when he mentioned the Great Lakes, but he had been too quiet for too long for this to be a simple issue that could be resolved easily, something really got to him, really badly.

The only thing that distracted her from Cory's silence was the sound of her phone informing her that she had recieved a text. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell, looking at the screen to see who it was from. Yay, Archie was awake! Cadence hoped she hadn't woken him up from any slumber he might have had. She knew he wasn't getting much sleep recently, and she didn't want to ruin what sleep he could get. She opened the text, pushing the correct buttons on her phone's keyboard. Ah, so he hadn't gotten her text, that much was clear from what she read. Hitting the reply button, she began to type up a response. "Hey, I had hoped that you got my text from earlier...but it seems you didn't...Me & Cory are at the stream...something is really bugging him...and he isn't talking bout it...." With that typed up, she sent the message, hoping he would get it this time.

The silence was starting to bother her, she could only stand it for so long before it hurt her ears. Sure, the sounds of nature were pretty and all, but it wasn't her favorite thing to listen to for an extended period of time, and with Cory's lack of vocalizations, it was the soundtrack of the moment. Hopefully that would change soon, real soon .

They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious, so come on

“Yea, we should go to the lakes this weekend.” Cory said after a prolonged silence. He hadn’t much need for conversation at the moment, just someone to stop him from jumping to his death. Yes, he was getting that bad, and every moment that passed it seemed to get worse.

His anger had quickly faded away, with nothing to fuel off of. He felt weak and defeated, and hurt. Part of him wanted to crawl in the corner and cry. However, he wouldn’t let that come out. He had spent years crying over this one girl, and he hadn’t any more tears to cry. So instead, he sat there in the silence, letting his thoughts of despair drag on.

Cory looked up at Cadence, and stared up at her face lined with worry. How could he tell her what had truly happened? He had been cheated and used, and there was no way he could face that. Explaining that to them was showing weakness he wasn’t ready to admit. Instead, he wanted to go on blissfully avoiding that conversation. Sadly, there was nothing blissful, even as he kept his mouth shut.

Cory let his eyes trail the scenery. The water ran speedily, making a beautiful rhythm and delicate rippled. The leaves were all a delicate green, though they were quickly turning brown. The branches were all thin, except the few tall and strong trees high above. Lining the stream were rocks, which were all colored in grey and brown hues. The area was beautiful and serene. He was going to take Mitsukai here, and have her apart of their group. He never got the chance. They’d never spend fall together, or winter. Everything about them was gone, they had been since they day he ended it all 3 years ago. He just had been in denial, telling himself that someday he’d come back and fix the relationship he had broken.

He put head in his hands, taking in the feeling of loss as it crushed him. She had only done this because he was an idiot. He was too available, too vulnerable. She needed to use someone to make her own world okay, not caring about how the other person would feel. She was selfish, and cruel. Cory was no longer sure which feeling was more evident, the feeling of loss or the feeling of betrayal.

Cory sat there for a few moments, letting the silence linger on until he felt as if his mind was put together. Then after he felt like he could breathe, he looked up. His eyes were lined with tears, betraying his attempted façade. Though, he wasted no time wiping them away and looking straight ahead. There was absolutely no reason he would cry over her. Cory wasn’t going to be weak any longer, he was going to be a new and stronger person.

Caleb didn’t understand why Thorne was always so moody. Maybe it was because he was hungry and Caleb couldn’t help notice that Thorne never ate in the mornings which could only contribute to the fact. Shrugging as he watched Thorne skulk out of the cafeteria; Caleb finished piling up his tray and took it towards a table next to a window with plenty of sunshine. He would usually go and sit with a random bunch of people, but he was a bit late for class and if he sat next to someone he would never finish his food in time for him to make it to his first class; he would be too busy talking to fill his mouth with the delicious food on his plate.

The silence gave him time to think as he shoveled food down his mouth, which wasn’t something he usually did. Sure, he thought, but it was usually about shallow things like what movies were out at the moment, and mostly he just impulsively acted. He didn’t like wondering about the why’s and how’s of things. It just made life complicated. Why couldn’t people just accept what was? If you can’t change something, why bother mulling over the fact for hours? Wasn’t it just easier to accept it and move on? Apparently not.

Take Thorne for example, he was a thinker. Caleb could tell because he kept silent most of the time as opposed to blabbing as Caleb did. Thorne didn’t offer his opinion unless he thought it mattered, and usually over-thought things, the complete opposite of Caleb who always gave his opinion, and never thought things through. Caleb wasn’t sure why he always hung around Thorne. Maybe it was because Thorne didn’t kick him out or maybe because he felt Thorne needed a friend, or maybe because Cory was usually MIA. Whatever the reason, he didn’t try to think about it. All he knew is that he met Thorne when he went out to a café one day for dinner and decided to wave to passersby.

Thorne had been walking to a nearby club and spotted the random figure and gave an incredulous look before giving an explosion of a laugh that immediately endeared him to Caleb. Someone who could laugh that hard when moments before he had looked so sullen was a person Caleb could work with (even if the laugh may or may not have been a product of drink). Either way, Caleb had scurried out to Thorne and introduced himself in his usual way—tripping over the person. He had then accompanied Thorne to the club he was originally going to where Thorne drank the night away while Caleb people-watched and danced. After that, Caleb had the habit of trailing after Thorne when he lacked something to do, and he had a suspicion Thorne didn’t mind his company as much as he said he did so it worked out well for the both of them.

Finishing his last bit of scrambled eggs and bacon, Caleb took a large swig from his gallon of milk and headed off to class. Walking to the hallways, Caleb realized he hadn’t seen Cory in awhile. He had tried sending him texts before, but they hadn’t been answered. He must have had something really important going on, or he lost his phone. No matter which it was, Caleb decided to shoot him a text as he walked the halls his milk jug sloshing noisily, though awkwardly as he only had one hand free for his key pad so the message came out something like this, “bey coorty, wgere u bein? weve git 2 haung spometrim.” So focused was Caleb on his texting that he didn’t pay much attention to where he was going, which was never a good idea.

Mrs. Robertson had started her lecture in the class a few minutes before but stopped suddenly as a loud thump echoed through the room coming from a point near the open doorway. A loud clear voice followed exclaiming for the whole class to hear, “ Holy Yummy Buttered Toast Eaten by Colorful Unicorns! What is a Freaking wall doing here?” The class remained silent for a moment before bursting into laughter as Caleb walked through the door wearing a pained expression as he rubbed his head, but his appearance and clothing choice only made the class laugh louder. Caleb seemed unperturbed by this as he continued rubbing his head before a single “Ow” issued from his mouth.

It was then that he finally took notice of his audience and gave a sheepish smile the back of his neck and ears blushing a nice light pink. “Oh hey there,” he said anti-climatically before addressing the teacher, “Hey, Mrs. R sorry about being late. I had a little trouble getting through the door.”

“Getting through the door took ten minutes?” She replied her tone stern though her eyes twinkled with amusement. Sighing she shook her head, “Just take a seat Mr. Manning,” she finished before resuming her lecture. Caleb saluted her with his milk jug the liquid moving nosily before he turned and headed towards one of the only empty desks. He fell into the chair heavily having tripped over someone’s foot and heaved the jug onto the desk before peering at his neighbor. It was a girl of Asian descent wearing a leather jacket that was slightly too large for her. Caleb not one for remaining silent stuck out his hand to her and said quite cheerfully considering he had just ran into a wall, “Hey, I’m Caleb! Nice to meet you! That’s a lot of paper stuff on your desk, are you trying to get extra points or something? I’m new so I don’t really know about the whole policy of extra credit or whatever you want to call it. I transferred from a school in London ‘cause ya know the ‘rents wanted me closer to home and all that…” He trailed off staring at her expectantly as he took a large gulp of milk and brushed his hair out of his face. If she was stunned, it wouldn’t have been surprising seeing as he babbled and was wearing quite an interesting outfit.

Kyuubi sat in his class. He had been right, he had a test in one of his classes and this was it. Slowly going over the questions in his head he wrote the answers as they came to him. After he was finished he took out a book. It was a book he had never read before but he wasn't reading it. He was thinking about Mitsukai. He was glad to see that she was back. He hoped she was feeling okay after all that happened before she left. He looked at the book again considering reading it. He decided not to and put it away. Again his thoughts turned to Mitsukai. He thought the same thing over and over again. She was back. This had been the happiest day he had since the day he saved Vincent from his brother.

He thought about the Dance that was coming up. Maybe he should ask her. He blushed slightly at the thought. He knew she had feelings for Thorne still. He still wanted to ask her. This was something he had never thought about before. He never asked anyone out. He was the one asked out. He shook his head, he didn't want to think about the people who used him when he was thinking about asking Mitsukai something. If he asked Mitsukai she could decline him and make him embarrassed. If she said yes then that could anger Thorne. He remembered what Thorne had said to him that day Mitsukai was crying in her room and he tried to check on her. He shivered. Thorne wasn't someone he wanted to mess with. He knew the damage that could be done with that power of his. Then again if he had to he might stand a chance. He shook his head. He didn't like the thought of fighting. He didn't want to be involved in all that.

The teacher was collecting the tests and snapped him out of his thoughts. The rest of the class erupted in talking and asking each other if they had a date to the dance. When someone asked him he knew he blushed slightly and said no. They turned away to ask another person. Kyuubi was always embarrassed about things like this. It was pretty much the only thing that made him embarrassed. Again his thoughts went back to the dance issue.

. Ian's plane landed in Michigan the night before. All that he brought with him consisted of two suitcases packed with the essentials. The rest of his belongings were being shipped to his new dorm, due to arrive on his first day. He had transferred from Valdosta State University in Georgia, in the middle of the semester. It wasn't a sensible thing to do, but it was necessary. No family accompanied him, he had traveled alone. His parents were long dead, his aunt and uncle were attending to his younger sister, Millie, who was hospitalized. No one could have seen him off. Ian didn't mind.
The new school he was attending was definately out of the ordinary. For that reason his transfer was necessary. Genius Academy was his new college. He had finally found out about his powers two weeks ago in a shocking hospital room confession session. His cousin, Millie, ended up being his sister. His parents didn't die in an accident, they were murdered. Oh, and he ended up having super powers like his sister. Things made more sense now. Millie's condition didn't seem as bad. Even though a brain tumor was causing her to go blind, she coudl see perfectly. He finally understood why he loved crowds. The energy from their emotions fuled him. Sure, he didn't get told what exactly his powers were, but since his uncle had an idea about what they were, he experimented.
Ian was an empath. He could sense the emotions of those around him. If he wanted, he could change them too. It was a bonus that they gave him energy as well. The reason why he didn't realize what they were before is because he grew up learning to control his emotions. When he was seven, just after his parents died, he ended up depressing his whole school with his powers. He was upset and he was bringing others down with him. His uncle ended up telling him he couldn't think of all the bad things in his life all the time. Instead, remember the good things. That's what he did from that point on, so, no more problems with his powers. He didn't link the depression of others to himself at age seven. So, he never really thought of it again.
Millie, his sister, insisted that he come to Genius after he found out about his powers. He came half-way across the continential U.S. because of her. Because of Millie, he was starting his classes that day. Since he was in college already, he joined Genius as a college freshman, but, he was taking power courses with highschoolers. The way the administration worked it, every nine weeks Ian had a chance to advance to the next power control class. In order to do so, he had to prove that he had indeed improved enough to advance to the next level. So, if he was good enough, he could start college level power courses by the beginning of his sophomore year. It was good enough for him. Ian was eager to start said classes.
Which is why he was up early. Around six thirty he was heading up to the office from his dorm. The school had let him move in the night before. His things were still in his suitcase, mostly. His laptop was on the barren desk, phone charger plugged into his wall, and his dirty clothes flung in a fold out hamper he had bought the night before. The bathroom had a new towel tossed over the counter to dry next to deodorant, cologne, and a razor. Shampoo and soap were on a shelf in the shower, and a wet washcloth was hung over the water spout. All were also bought the night before. He figured he'd organize things later, once the rest of his belongings arrived.
Ian finally navigated himself to the front office. The receptionist was quite cheery, and he couldn't help but wonder if it was partly his doing. After recieving his schedule and having a quick talk with the counselor, he was off to get himself some breakfast. His first college class didn't start 'til nine. However, after that, he was off to high school beginning power control. That meant he had time to explore before he had to be somewhere. He took a map of the school form a shelf of phamplets before leaving the office, using it to guide himself to some grub. He made it just fine. It didn't take too long to get through the line, and before he knew it, he had some hot breakfast. Ian walked out to the courtyard to eat, knowing that his phone would go off any minute.
Sure enough, after he took his first bite into his cinnamon roll, it began ringing in his pocket. He licked the extra icing off his fingers of one hand while the other dug in his pocket. He pulled the phone out and answered it.
"Hello Millie." He said, unsuprised. Ian knew she would want to talk to him once he was at the school.

"Ian, what's it like there? Have you met anyone yet? What are your classes?" She asked, going about a hundred miles a minute. "Slow down, Millie..." Was all Ian managed to say before she interrupted him.
"Hold on, Imma try something..." Silence followed. Ian waited patiently as she did whatever she was doing. "Wow, Ian, it's really pretty there. Why are you outside though?" She asked, shocking Ian.
"How'd you know that?" He asked curiously.

"My powers, I'm looking through your cell's camera right now. Though, you're moving, so the image is constantly shifting." Millie explained.
So, she was experimenting with her powers too. He took his phone and turned it around so that he could stare into the camera. He gave Millie a stern look before putting it back to his ear.
"Millie, don't be spying on anyone"
"Oh, Ian, it's not just anyone. Just mom and dad, you, and others in the hospital..." She said, a smile in her voice.
"Millie...."

"I'm being good Ian...Promise." "You'd better be. Don't make me come back down there..." "Not a chance. I've gotta go though. The nurses are about to make their rounds." "Alright, Millie, say hi to Uncle Harold and Aunt Lynn for me." Ian said, knowing she would tell her parents. It was weird. She was his sister, technically her parents were dead as well. However, he didn't expect her to call the people who raised her (their aunt and uncle) anything but her parents. That's what they had been, why should it change, even though the truth was revealed. "I will, don't worry." Millie replied. "Bye Ian, love you!"
"Love you too, Millie." And with that, she hung up, leaving Ian free to eat his now cold cinnamon roll.
Once he was finished, he got up and threw his trash away and looked at his map. Then he looked at his watch. Seven thirty, an hour and a half to go until class. 'Til that time, he was going to wander his way from one side of the campus to the other. He pulled his ipod out of his pocket and stuck the left earbud in, and with that, he was off.

Only here with my crew
I can roll if you can
Dont be a punk punk
Whatchu gonna do when the croud goes Ayo?
Why you standin' on the wall?
Music startin' everywhere
So why dont you just move along?

. Bri rolled over in bed and pulled her comforter over her shoulders. She had gotten cold. Just as she had gotten comfortable again, her alarm went off. As a response, she grumbled. If only she had powers that could let her stop time. Groggily, she sat up, reaching over to turn off her alarm. She really didn't want to be up. She had been tossing and turning all night long, hardly sleeping well. As she sat on her bed, she thought about ditching class. Sure, she needed to attend, she was just so tired. "Forget it, I'm already up...." She complained aloud. Might as well go to class, she didn't think she'd get much sleep if she stayed in bed anyways.
Getting out of bed, Bri flinched when her feet hit the cold floor. She didn't really like the cold. Since her power dealt with fire, she was accustomed to heat, and the absence of it made her irritable from time to time. That was probably why she got so little heat. She went to the little thermostat and turned the temp up to a nice seventy five degrees. Once that was done, she gatered clothes together to change into after her shower. Five minutes later, the hot water was on and she was steaming up the bathroom with her shower. When she was finished, she used her blow dryer on her hair, drying it, then she took her straightener to her hair. All of those things together turned her little rom into an oven. If anyone came in her room, except her brother, they'd complain about the heat. As it was, Bri was dreading the venture outside her dorm room. Who knew how chilly it would be out there? She drug out putting on her makeup until she couldn't anymore, grabbing her things for class and a jacket.
Moments later she was out in the halls, heading for the cafeteria to grab a quick breakfast before she went to class. As she was walking across the grounds, putting on her jacket, she spotted a guy she hadn't seen before. He had a map in hand, studying it and listening to some music, headphones in his ears. She raised an eyebrow. He was kinda cute, and he didn't look like he was a high school freshie. He was maybe fifty feet away, and he turned to look at her, just briefly, before flashing a smile and retruning to the map, walking off. Now she was really curious. She considered catching up to him, but, she realized somethings. One, she still needed to get breakfast, and two, she could have just used her portals to get to the cafeteria all nice and warm. Without another thought, she opened one and slipped into the cafeteria. The line wasn't long, most highschoolers were in class by then. As she got her food, she wondered what her brother was doing, and if Meredith was bugging him. She had heard recently that Mer was going to that British school for powers. Good riddance, in her opinion. Maybe the little tramp would finally be out of her brother's hair. Bri was actually suprised that her brother couldn't tell that the girl had a major crush on him. Her thoughts on that matter dissolved quickly as she left the line and headed for class, eating the egg, cheese, and bacon biscuit on the way.
While she was walking to class, she thought about that new kid. She wondered what his power could be, what grade he was in, why did he smile at her, and the like. She tried to remember what he looked like, so she could look for him later. Dirty blonde, taller than her, blueish-green eyes. Yes, she'd definately have to talk to him later, right now, it was time for class. She opened the door to the lecture hall and found a seat near the back of the class.

I see you lookin at me
Like I'm some kind of freak
Get up out of your seat
Why dont you do somethin'?
I see you lookin' at me
Like I got what you need
Get up out of your seat,
Why dont you do somethin'?

The hot stares had long since started to bore into Mitsukai’s head. It was like being the new kid all over again, but far worse. No one was to interested in the new kid at this school, they had new kids all the time. However, people were always curious about someone leaving the school. No one left the school, it was salvation. Mitsukai had left, now she was back. Now she was sitting in this stupid stuffy classroom, with her head on her desk.

“ Holy Yummy Buttered Toast Eaten by Colorful Unicorns! What is a Freaking wall doing here?”

Mitsukai was surprised by the swift switch of attention from her head to some obvious new arrival. The loud laughter only seemed to heighten that surprise. She peered up at the boy, dressed in blinding colors, whom was walking right towards her. She felt her body stiffen as he moved closer and closer, until he sat down in the seat next to her. Everyone was watching now. In a way it was better, because she was sharing the attention. However, Mitsukai figured this guy was talkative, and obnoxious. She wasn’t sure she could handle that.

“Hey, I’m Caleb! Nice to meet you! That’s a lot of paper stuff on your desk, are you trying to get extra points or something? I’m new so I don’t really know about the whole policy of extra credit or whatever you want to call it. I transferred from a school in London ‘cause ya know the ‘rents wanted me closer to home and all that…”

Mitsukai looked at the kid dumbfounded. He went on and on, rambling galore. At first, she wasn’t sure she wanted to talk to him. She felt herself grabbing for her books in defense, and edging away. Though, as he talked she felt her body relax and her lips form a smile. Every word was refreshing, it was like he was breathing life into her. With every word, she felt like a weight was being lifted off of her shoulders. It was fascinating how one person could brighten ones day. He had so much energy, it was enough to fuel the entire world. He reminded her of someone she once knew, someone she used to be. Someone she now missed.

The teacher started talking, and Mitsukai felt somewhat conspicuous with Caleb’s loud talking. She tried her best to focus on not only the lesson, which was hard since she was so terribly behind. But also, on Caleb’s rambles. She couldn’t bring herself to tune them out, since they were incredibly interesting, Every moment he seemed to change topics, sometimes in the same sentence without transition. Every word he spoke his goofy grin seemed to get larger, and he seemed to grow more confident in himself. Mitsukai found it incredibly amusing how Caleb seemed to talk with his gawky hands, and how his face was lit with emotion.

“Would you like to share to the whole class.”

Mitsukai felt her face flush, as she seemed to flinch back. She hadn’t wished for any more attention than what was bound to be given. Caleb seemed to be full of attention. IT was insane.

The teacher wasn’t all upset though, since she looked at Mitsukai with twinkles in her eye. On any other day, the teacher would have yelled and sent students out. However, the teacher just wanted Mitsukai to find someone to interact with. After a hushed moment in the room, the teacher went onto her lesson regarding Shakespeare’s language. Apparently, that was the novel they were just about to begin reading.

Mitsukai took advantage of the near silence, and smiled at Caleb. “Hi Caleb, I’m Mitsukai.” She introduced herself. She hadn’t much else to say, but she figured it was worth introducing herself. This boy could be the one person who could change things around for her. At least she wasn’t the most interesting person at the school, and she probably wouldn’t be ever again. All thanks to the most brilliant Caleb.

Archimedes was developing a stomachache. Too many doughnuts. He knew it was true, but didn’t want to admit it. They were so good, though, and gave him so much energy. That paired with coffee was like Archie crack. However, he knew that if he didn’t stop then he’d lose all the energy he’d consumed down the toilet. Hmm. 5 doughnuts left. Two chocolate, two plain, one coconut. Maybe he’d save them for later or something. Or maybe Cory and Cadence would like them? That would be all right, if he could get to them before the doughnuts went bad.

Almost immediately after he’d finished the thought, Archimedes’s phone dinged at him. Hrm. He unlocked it and saw that he had a text from Cadence. Finally! Contact! They didn’t hate him yaaaaay! Wait, ‘previous text’? A little embarrassed, Archie scrolled through his text history. Ah. He DID have a text from Cadence from earlier. How the hell had he missed that? Oh well. He’d just tell them that it didn’t send or something.

Pah ‘something is really bugging him’. ’Something’s really bugging ME too, but at least I know what it is,’ he thought petulantly as he was reminded of Mitsukai. Whatever. Those two probably had some stupid tiff and Cory was all in the dumps about it. Or something. Maybe he’d finally believe that he didn’t need that bint and that Archimedes was enough for him. Er, well, Archimedes and Cadence, of course. Man, that first thought sounded kinda gay. Oops. Whatever. He’d amended it so it was all right. Stupid face, stop blushing!

But anyway, lake, Cory and Cadence, depression, doughnuts. Onwards! As he exited the school, Archie redirected the security cameras a few degrees so they wouldn’t see him leaving before putting them back in their original positions. Couldn’t get caught. Nope, nope, nope. Man, this sugar was really doing a number on him. He suddenly had the urge to run, so run he did, all the way to the stream. It was a bit awkward what with the box of doughnuts, but he managed it, finally finding his two friends slumped by the running water. With one last little hop, Archie landed beside his comrades and smiled.

”Mae govannen, my friends! I bring sustenance and cheer from the Silvan realm!” Archimedes crowed with enthusiasm, presenting the doughnut box. The sweets had rolled around and gotten a bit misshapen in his bounding, but he figured they still tasted the same.

His smile faltered as he took in his friends’ dispositions. It felt like he was walking in on a funeral or something. Cory looked like he might have been crying, which was totally not manly. He kept that to himself, though. It probably wouldn’t have been tactful to point that out. Copping a squat next to Cory, Archimedes fished a chocolate doughnut from its depths and held it up to the boy’s mouth, trying to tempt him to take a bite. Archie probably looked a trifle silly with frosting smudges on his nose and chin and fingers, trying to hand-feed his best friend, but maybe on some level it would amuse the boy and make him feel a little better.

”Fried deliciousness, yes?” Archie lamely tacked on, his little half-smirk-smile thing planted firmly on his face. It just occurred to the redhead that hand-feeding his male friend might seem kinda gay. Damnit! Why did this keep happening to him? All he would do was try to be nice and then his mind would somehow make it gay! Stupid, stupid, stupid! His cheeks flushed a little again, the only thing betraying his façade. He was sure it was due to some fluxuation in his natural and electrical hormones, making his brain misfire and do awkward things around other guys. He’d have to do some self-searching or some s**t later to figure it out. Or just beat the crap out of himself and hope that fixes it too.

”So, uhh…” Archie coughed, trying to shake off the awkward. ”What’s with all the doom n’ gloom stuff, eh? Death and destruction? Lies and deceit?” he guessed, looking Cory dead in his red-rimmed eyes. Maybe Cadence couldn’t get it out of him, but Archie was a dude, and dudes understood dudes better than girls understood dudes, so this logic drove him. Even if it didn’t make much difference in the end. At least he tried. They’d get the reasoning out of him sooner or later, though. Even if Archie had to tune into Cory’s computer, phone, email, anything.

Distraction was a one-way ticket to failure. Archie thought that’s what his dad used to say, but… it had been so long since he’d heard his dad’s voice, he may have just been making that up. Whatever. He didn’t need his parents, and Cory didn’t need Mitsukai. Of this he was positive. Or… mostly positive. It still hurt, but that was how life was. How life is, and what didn’t kill you only made you stronger. And left one hell of a scar.

Cory was lost in his own thoughts when a chocolate fried pastry was shoved in his face. Of course, the thought of food when Cory was upset repulsed him. It was a habit he had shared with Mitsukai, one which they may have possibly formed together. When they were upset, they refused to eat. When Cory’s grandma died, he refused to eat for weeks straight. If it wasn’t for Mitsukai shoving food down his throat, he would have starved. Likewise, when Mitsukai’s Dad died, he did the same for her. It was a way they knew when something was wrong, and kept their relationship in shape since they always knew when eat other was upset. Thinking about it left Cory feeling even more upset, and he looked at the pastry in disdain.

”Fried deliciousness, yes?”

Although, there was nothing more repulsive than being nagged about being upset, especially when part of it involved not eating. Therefore, Cory grabbed the snack, mumbled a thank you, and took a bite into the overly chocolate snack. He swallowed it forcefully, while trying to hide his grimace.

”So, uhh…” Archimedes’ sharp, deliberate cough grabbed Cory’s attention. He looked his good friend in the eyes, and tried to prepare himself for the inevitable question. ”What’s with all the doom n’ gloom stuff, eh? Death and destruction? Lies and deceit?”

There was no way Cory could hide his grimace when this question was posed. The way it was worded seemed to hit right on, at least with the lies and deceit. A huge part of Cory, the part dealing with pride, told him to keep his mouth shut. Honestly, who was he to argue? In the end, he just shoved his shoulders and took yet another bite into his doughnut.

He thought desperately about anything and everything that could change the conversation around. Something so shocking that they wouldn’t help but to shut up. Only after a moment of awkward silence, his mind slammed upon something that might have worked. Of course, it probably wasn’t ideal, considering the participant would be the one Cory would rely on to make this happen. However, he opened his mouth, hoping it would spurt conversation non-Mitsukai-related.

“So, I think I’m going to ask Riah out to the dance.”

He hadn’t any particular feelings for Riah, considering he was just getting to know her. He didn’t even think he could develop feelings for her. Nevertheless, it was a great thought. Something so shocking and unexpected. Sadly, just a great thought, because as soon as Cory finished his statement, he felt as if he was eating dirt. Of course, with him announcing that he was going with someone other than Mitsukai revealed exactly what was wrong, Crap. They’d probably find out eventually, when she was going to the dance with some other chum. At least this way he could fake it until he made it, with the idea that he rejected her being supported all the way. As far as they were concerned, he never asked her to try to work things out. He never tried, never cared, never cried. Of course, they knew him better than that. It was worth a try.

That is, if Riah would even say yes.

Cadence Saline IvieUser Image

Cadence looked up as Archie came into their area. So, he did get her text. Maybe now Cory would spill. She smiled at the box of doughnuts. As the box was sat down, Cadence looked at the bounty. Hmm, a couple of plain glazed doughnuts, one chocolate (since the other was now in Archimedes' hand, trying to be fed to Cory), and one coconut. She'd skip on the coconut, it wasn't her favorite flavor. So, instead, she picked up a glazed one and smiled.
"Thank's Archie, I was beginning to think you'd never show up.." She said the last part teasingly as she held back a small laugh at his effort to cheer Cory up. As she watched, she noticed Archie's face go a few shades of red, to that she raised an eyebrow. It seemed he'd been doing that a lot lately, or was it just her imagination. Nevertheless, it didn't seem that Cory noticed the shading of Archimedes' cheeks, and he took a bite of the doughnut he was offered. She shook the thought from her mind, more focused on the question Cory was asked, hoping for an answer. The question did bring out a reaction in Cory, a grimace. Obviously Archie had hit the issue. However, instead of revealing the problem, he shrugged it off. Moments later, he spoke, and what he said had shocked her.
"What? L?" She asked, confused as heck. Why would Cory do that? Besides, didn't L like Joe? At least, that's what she knew from when she used to hang out with them.
"You aren't thinking of taking Mitsukai?" She asked, after all, he had been speaking of nothing but her the past few days. If he wasn't thinking of taking her, it was most likely something Mitsukai had done that had made him upset. Either way, they were getting close to what was making Cory upset.
"You do know you can tell us what's really bugging you....We are your friends, that is what friends are for..." She reminded, looking hurt. Why is it that he couldn't trust the two of them with his secrets. They were the only two who knew she could go invisible, she'd tell them just about anything they wanted to know. Cadence figured it was just a guy thing, being all stoic and such.
She'd leave it at that. If he didn't go further on the issue, that was up to him. Instead she turned to Archimedes.
"So, you planning to go to the dance?" She asked casually. She was goin to go, already had the dress. Well, she probably wasn't going to go to the actual dance, but the after party that some college students were planning, that'd be more fun. She waited for responses from either of them, taking another bite of her misshaped, tasty doughnut .

Kyuubi looked out the window of his class. He knew it was close to over. He just wanted to be able to think about things alone. He wanted to go to the dance. He never went last year, and he actually wanted to go. He heard the bell ring and quickly left the class. He would have to go to his next class in a few minutes. At least after that class he could get away and be alone. He sat down on a bench on the way to his next class. He was glad to be able to relax for a second, before he had to get to his next class.

RINGGGGG
Normally, Meredith would have woken up from her alarm clock, which blared around 6:30am. She didn’t need to be awake at such an early hour, but it worked. She would feast in the school cafeteria, and laugh at all the young drama. Drama she was very much a part of. More so now than ever.

However, lately, Meredith was avoiding the cafeteria like a plague. Every time she went in there, she had to suffer the rumors that spread like wildfire. They were obnoxious, and unnecessary. Of course, they had to involve everyone’s favorite subject, Mitsukai. Allegedly, they were worst enemies. They had their most recent show down a month ago, according to rumors. This show down involved Mitsukai getting her a** kicked in ways that were unimaginable to man, with cuts covering her skin. All of this fight was over the school’s hottie, Thorne. There were no words that would describe how dumb this rumor was. Anyone with a real eye would have known those were burns covering Mitsukai’s arm that sad day. Meredith didn’t burn people; she cut them. Concerning the Meredith and Thorne stunt, it seemed to be predictable. However, it wasn’t true. The night before, there were eyewitnesses that Meredith was flirting her heart out with the very fine Thorne. This was twisted into them cuddling in the hot tub, and later having sex in her room. It hadn’t helped much that Mitsukai had stormed out of the pool room, and the next day had come home with burns coating her arms.

Meredith was the only predictable culprit of this incident.

Rumor claimed that Mitsukai had come storming into Meredith’s room, only to find Meredith and Thorne tangled together, lacking clothes. She had freaked out, her and Meredith had gotten in the worst fight in schools history. Meredith had cut her up, and Mitsukai had run off. This accounted for her 8 hour disappearance.

She had come back around dinner time, covered with scares and bandages. Apparently her damages were so bad the nurse was forced to heal them later on, something everyone knew the nurse only did in extreme emergencies.

Thorne later left the school, to escape from the guilt of what had happened to Mitsukai. Once he came back, Mitsukai was hurt and delusional, and had stormed off.

Of course, this wasn’t the truth. It took some tedious questioning for Meredith to find out the truth, and she hadn’t liked what she found out. Most of it came from the nurse, while the rest came from Kyuubi while he was absolutely wasted. Even with that, he hadn’t wanted to admit to what had happened to Mitsukai. He was blaming himself; though Meredith had a feeling it wasn’t his fault.

Mitsukai had done the normal thing; help Kyuubi. Running off to his dimension, and saving the day. The details had been blurred, since Kyuubi was too swarmed with guilt. Recalling the memory to keep accurate facts wasn’t something Kyuubi was very good at, and Mitsukai had kept the events to herself. Though, from what Meredith had managed to discover, something happened to Mitsukai while she was in Kyuubi’s dimension. She was tortured, and hurt. She managed to get home, and landed in the Nurse’s office where she was bandaged. How Mitsukai was healed is left unknown, since the nurse swore she hadn’t healed her. It was probably one of Mitsukai’s friends, with Diana being the most reasonable person. It was a blurred truth, but enough to calm Meredith. Two things were left unanswered though. Why had Thorne left? And, why had Mitsukai? These were things Meredith had asked and asked, but the only ones who knew wouldn’t tell her. Part of them still believed Thorne and Meredith had had sex, and therefore kept their mouths shut.

With all of the questions swarming in Meredith’s head, she had been twice the party girl than normal. Mitsukai had always been one of Meredith’s best friends, and she was worried about her. Though, no one wanted Meredith to know what was happening to Mitsukai. The only information flying around were rumors, and those who knew the truth weren’t speaking up. They had all assumed Mitsukai and Meredith had become enemies. Maybe they had. Considering Meredith had no way of contacting Mitsukai, she hadn’t known.

Meredith grumbled out of bed, looking at her clock in dismay. She probably would have slept all morning, if it wasn’t for the bell that woke her up. For some reason the school bells had gotten louder, and them waking her up had become a normal occurrence. She wasn’t liking it, not in the least bit. Nonetheless, up was up, and it was time for Meredith to get dressed. First things first, pain killers.

She was probably near the point of stomach bleeding now, since Meredith awoke with a headache every morning and in result, took the drugs every morning. It was a good thing Ibuprofen wasn’t addictive, because if it was Meredith would be hooked. She was fairly certain she was borderline alcoholic by now. She didn’t need a drug addiction added on top of that.

With her headache already going away, she went into her closet and pulled on some clothing. She chose a pair of skin tight skinnies, a white tank top, and a red Hollister hoodie to top it off. She pulled on a pair of black uggs, and threw her long hair up into a ponytale. Then, she walked out to face the blinding sunlight of the cold September morning.
