Yes. Chat rooms and AIM. The Mecca of deep, creative rps.
Really, I've only RPed here, because I don't really get around the internets much and nor do I really want to, but it sucks here. NO ONE has any focus. They play around in it for a few days, then go off to another one. They move around from place to place like Mongolian nomads. And it really pisses me off when I find one I like and make a character I really like, and then it dies in just a few pages. This especially happens in those "advance lit" rps because you have to be soooo involved in making a profile and describing everything about your character all the way down to their cells and DNA. And with that, some people never even get started. And when you're waiting for people to make a post so you can post, you go off to another rp and make a character and get involved in that.
And with all the other rps, the ideas suck and they're all the same. Plus no one can really write.

Soren, it seems like to me you're encountering the pride issue often involved with rps. What I mean by this is, all the players concentrate far to much on their own characters and not on the story as a whole. I've been guilty of this myself before, but that's why I usually end up playing independent characters or bad guys who separate themselves from the story and then join back in to make their effect on the plot. But that's mostly happened on this website because 99.9% of all Rps don't have plots and I have the nagging desire to take control and point the story at least somewhere.
Though I'm sorry you feel that way Soren. You're really missing out if you have yet to encounter a great rp.
Also, the way to get a good Rp going with some not so good rpers is to install a moderator who takes control of the entire plot. This often enough is difficult because it requires a good moderator and someone willing to dedicate the time and patience. It's a little shaky, but I've seen some good rps come out of sucky rps that way, with all credit to the moderate or GM as they say it.
Soooo... Yeah, fun stuff. I'm just trying to defend rping here. Their quality is based on the players not the concept of rping itself. That's actually what makes it so awesome.
Cupcakes?
*Edit*
I forgot one last detail! A lot of rps are either completely missing a bad guy or don't have a very good one. I find that this is a pandemic in the rping world.

I know somethat makes a REALLY good villian when she gets into the role *pokes DS* but she never does, and even whan asked *pokes DS again*. But ya I have to say that everyone wants to play the hero or the dashing man that saves everyone... but sometimes I enjoy playing a villian and I am ok at it, but someone |*pkes DS* is really good at it altho she will never say so herself *pokes DS* can you guesss who I mean?

I still think if the RP limits people to control one character and not any others (not that there's any other reasonable option) that you're actively encouraging them to be prideful, because if you join an RP, you want to get your foot in the door and write, ya know? I don't think you'll find a lot of people willing to sit back and twiddle their thumbs while the rest of the ballteam is out doing their thing. So yes, I think there is a basic flaw in the way most RPs are set up, though I do agree that the people are more important in the big picture. And I think that flaw makes people uneasy, which will cause them to not think of the big picture.
Honestly though, I think by the time you're installing moderators to keep track of a hobby, it's just getting ridiculous.

Shen dude I do not know what that is but I am not watching it.
Eh, sometimes rps suck, sometimes they don't. I think we've done a decent job of it, especially recently.
Now let go me go look at what Reiku's done now and decide if pummeling is in order. I know you want to be badass now boy but we are kind of doing something. Something that needs to be done in order to eliminate leftover characters.

Shen then. But you're both plotting together. I can feeeeeeeeel it.
Oh look, drama! Part 1/4 of the inevitable complete. I finally forced myself to write it because I know it has to be done. I do hate writing Gray though, I really do....

@Shen: If you're talking about your post with the 1 mil up front guy, yeah I read it. Don't mean I have to respond right away. I got better things to do, like watch CSI: New York on the Spike channel. razz
@Sven: That's cause no one wants to play the bad guy. Everyone always goes for the same character type or group of characters in any given rp, leaving the most important ones out, and usually that's the bad guys.
@Reiku: What two guys? What are you talking about?
