Okay, a few notes on the Imperial Guard Army I spat out...

A: That list is 3rd edition, made with the 3rd edition handbook, gimmie a break.
B: I don't have the money for a codex, and don't feel like going through 'other' means of acquiring one.
C: I don't play Imperial Guard, but Space Marines, as they are the most I have...
D: Doctrines? What are those? More ways to make your IG trooper better?

And a note on the army...

Here's the low-down of it.

Since I don't have an Inquisiter (sp?), and I hate'em... (Inquistiters, not the warrior, they're decent.) The Assassin can be dumped for nothing...

As you can see, there are a lot of heavy weapons in the units. Those are to be there so I can mow vehicles, pesky big things, pesky 3 savers... (Damn you Necrons!!). The Bassies I like because of the devestating weapon they have, as it is one of the most powerful weapons availible.

As for IG squads, if you look, one is built for close in fighting, while the other slugs
can support.

The Hellhounds, IMO, are to support the close in squads, and deal are made for flaming large crowds of people in my way i.e. nids, guardians, kroot, people in buildings... etc. And the Leman Russ that I have, is made for supporting the Bassies with a heavy bolter, and dual heavy flamers.

The Storm Troopers, along with their Chimeras, are handy-men in where I need for them to go.

Any tactical questions along those lines?

You'd better stick to marines then or just buy the new codex.

Problem with them is that they really don't have 'character.' I mean, the IG army I created was a unit full of delightfully crazy people (read: wierd.)

I guess the War40k cash cow rolls on. stare

We were discussing the lsit of someone else.

Still, Rough Riders are an excellent choice, you just need to be right about using them. They are in all purposes just Guardsmen, but with the Fleet of Hoof and Cavalry rules. Besides, the Hunting Lances have received a major upgrade since the 3rd edition.

Rough Riders are no longer useless... Woah!

oh... ok. i don't like rought riders. a bit useless for me and their flashlight pistols...

If you have the attitide of the "flashlight" then obviously, the Imperial Guard is not your army. If you have more of the approach of lasguns, then the army is the thing for you.

The rough rider aren't there for las pistols anyway. The hunting lance is what they bring to the battle that is great for marine busting.
Las guns may be weak but when they out number you 3 to 1 suddenly they aren't so weak.Marine players are so cocky about their bolters that I laugh when they loose to guardsmen.

Agreed, Rough Riders never were a staying force and would be a waste without their hunting lances to see that first charge through. Granted, each man gets one attack, but at an increased initiative and as a single use power weapon. For exact details, read the Imperial Guard codex.

A question, I just got a Sentinel for IG, and the set of Smokestacks in the back appears to be missing. Has anyone else had a notoriously missing smokestack for Sentinels? sad

The exhaust pipes should be on the sprue like the rest of the basic parts. Or do you have one of those old pewter sentinels?

No, plastic. It just didn't have them. I'm mighty confused about it, dropping by GW to get a replacement part later today.

They usually don't hand out replacement parts on plastic kits. Mail orders with pewter parts or kits with pewter parts, yes, but plastic kits are a no-go. I had the same with my Cadian army deal, I was missing one cool part of the new vehicle accessories sprue sadly.
