Alright so, let's say I was fighting a 500 point game against some Tyranids. How does this list sound?
HQ Farseer w/ Guide w/ Mindwar w/ Spirit Stones w/ Singing Spear
Troops Guardian x10 w/ Shuriken Cannon
Dire Avenger x9 Dire Avenger Exarch w/ Bladestorm w/ 2x Shuriken Catapults
Heavy Support Wraithlord w/ Flamer x2 w/ Starcannon w/ Missile Launcher

Against Nids, prepare to be outnumbered. Heavily. I'd switch the Starcannon for something that can fire more shots, as you don't much need to worry about punching through armor. I'd also suggest switching Mind War for Eldricht Storm, for more massed kills on the Nids.

Yeah, those seem like better alternatives. I happen to know that my opponent will be using a Carnifex though. Do you think the Missile launcher will be enough to combat that?
I was planning on using Mindwar for taking out his HQ and Carnifex.

I was planning on using Mindwar for taking out his HQ and Carnifex. You'll have difficulty using Mind War effectively as both at Ld 10. You'll need more scatter lasers and shuriken cannons. Have the Wraithlord take a scatter laser instead of the starcannon and that'll also save you some points.

Yeah, sounds good. I will swap out the Starcannon for a Scatter and the Guardian's Shuricannon for another Scatter. And yeah, Maybe Eldritch Storm is a good choice. Thanks for the advice mrgreen

If I were to do a third army (gasp), it would definitely be Eldar. I was looking back at the first posts of this thread back two years ago. Even though I dont have any experience with them, I thought guardians would just be some real light infantry. However, I see that you get some 40-60 attacks on them and you use them in some pretty advanced killing squads?

Theyre alright, I prefered Dire Avengers myself.

No. Guardians have Assualt 2 weapons.
((This is all assuming you have a max squad.))
THey fire 40 shots in the shooting phase and then can get 40 attacks on the charge so long as you got within 6 inches of your enemy.
Guardian stormsquad will get 20 shots in the shooting phase and 60 attacks on the charge as they get CC weapons.
Storm squad are great accompanyment for more elite squads as the sheer ammount of attacks can be overwhelming.

He has 3 Warriors as an HQ, like 3 broods of Termagaunts at like 10 each maybe. And he has a Carnifex equipped with who knows what.
Apparently the way we are playing is that we only need to have 1 HQ and 1 Troop for the compulsory list. You think I should take out the guardians for an elite of fast attack or something? Or maybe keep them as I am already so outnumbered?

Well your friend is not stupid apparently. He knows how to divide up his troops for a horde.
Well... hmm... The only thing that will be able to touch your wraithlord are his Carnifex and.. well his Warriors could do it as well. A warrior with a Venom cannon that is.
You said this is a 500 point game?
Man. If what you said is true he is spending 270 points on termaguants. That leaves 230 left for his warriors and his carnifex... Leaving him with 143 points to spend on upgrades.
I have a sneaking feeling his going invest alot into his carnifex...
Ya know what would do FANTASTICALLY against an army like this?
A squad of warwalkers.
Armed with Scatter lasers and Missle launchers.
Oooof course that would take up a great deal of the points involved- Actually not really. Wow. 195 points for that squad.
Or if you armed them with JUST scatter lasers you would get a total of 24 S6 shots a turn.
EDIT - Somone also suggested using Fire dragons to knock out the carnifex.

War walkers and dire avengers for hail of shuriken fire, cheap. Carnifex is slow, you can fire on the move, you get the idea? Once gaunts and warriors are down, it is matter of time to bring the hulking monster down.

Once gaunts and warriors are down, it is matter of time to bring the hulking monster down. That hulking monster could have a Venom cannon. It may not be TOO dangerous, but Warwalkers are fragile and the weapons they carry are valuable. So what would be more worth taking out while you still have the advantage of range... To be honest I would DEFINITELY go for the warriors first. Straight for the neck. Get rid of his synapse and then his carnifex. After that you would need Guardians and or Dire Avengers along with maybe some scatter lasers to clean up his guants.
