I'm really nervous now.

I've just auditioned for clarinet openings in two things: first was for a regional orchestra that's SUPER competitive. I don't know how I did with that. Second was for the Wind Ensemble, the higher band in my school. That I played well at.

I haven't heard anything yet about placement. Wish me luck, though!!!

Good luck! I hope you do well.

The two times I've ever auditioned didn't go to well. I went for IUP honors band on Alto-Clarinet, that thing was a piece of junk. There were only two of us and I didn't place.

Then I auditioned on E-fer for Districts, there were two of us there too, and I only missed the spot by one point xp

I'm a music ed and instrument repair major, but if I ever do perform in a developed orchestra or something, it will likely be on either contrabass clarinet or sopranino... the two polar opposites.

what were your audition pieces?

For the first one, the orchestra, I auditioned with the Alleluja from Exultate Jubilate by Mozart. I played this for my solo piece in small group contest, so I know it really well. biggrin

For the Wind Ensemble, I had to do a full range chromatic (from the lowest note to a high... G above the clef), I played this small aria that they provided 2 weeks before the audition, and I sight-read. I'm pretty confident about this one, because I'm really good with sightreading.

question! ^____^ ((you may of seen me in the sax section...lol))

Okay, this is my 5th year of playing clarinet and eithr I have problems or its my mixed emboshures...I play bari and tenor. when i play sometimes i blow air, especially A flat and other note that have open fingerings. is that normal? or should i fix my embochure? Also when i play around with some high notes ((around 2nd to 3rd octive fingerings)) i tend to squeak or feel like im going to sqeak, and tips on that?
And what kind of reeds are you guys using? im using a vandoren 3

Thank you!

Hey I'm looking for a new clariente what are your opions on good but affortable clarientes

How affordable (price wise) and you say new clarinet, so do you have one already? If so, what is it? The Buffet E-11 is a good choice, but it retails at about $700. Also, does it matter if it's plastic or wood? Are you goign to march with it? What grade are you in?

My last Clariente cost somewhere between 1600 and 1000. It doesn't matter if its plastic or word and yes i will have to march with it

Hi everybody. I am new to this guild. And some may spot that I posted in the flute section. But for my concert band and pep band I play the clarinet. I am section leader for the flute and clarinet section, because they are so small. I have been playing the clarinet for about 4 months now, but it doesn't feel like it has been that long. I can do a little more than the basics. But I am still learning.

I am looking forward to learn more about the clarinet from people who seem to trully know what they are talking about.

arian_X- hmm :/ you mean that its like air is coming from your mouth? like...er..hard to explain -_-, basically air comes out from the sides? well maybe your embouchure is too lose? Tighten the corners, not the lips, if you tighten your lips the more you'll run into that problem more -_-, i actually have that problem but its fixed...i think...a bit, if i play for three hours then air starts to leak out of the sides =_=

as for the squeaking--you might be a bit nervous or tense when in the higher registers causing you to bite on the mouth piece squeazing the life out of the mouth piece...D=...or your thinking, "its soo high x_x" or "okay a high note" and for some reason our brains can sorta freak out about that and we will squeak or something -_-....you can try fixing that by sorta moving down when you play, or thinking its a low note--that makes it easier to reach. Or your just not putting enough air or breathing from the diaphrapm

now-- i'm a middle schooler who has gotten demoted to seventh chair so my advice may be wrong...i don't think it will...O_O because unfortunately i'm not one of those people in those bad middle schools who believe people who hand me bad reeds saying they are the best xP because my middle school's music program is not like that blaugh

so anyways...

-_- i think my clarinets broken, or its the fact my reed is far too soft (was asked ten billion times to move down to a 3 and did o_<) or just not enough air...because my high notes (third octave) sound horrible sometimes...it doesn't usually sound like that -_-used to last year when i first began to play ::shivers:: =/ sometimes its like *___* its in tune and pretty! but other times its x___x ew flat! Must fix it =_=

arghhh! my teacher's giving me a scale test, i'm not too worried about it but a few of my scales are a bit rough...not really smooth in the high register =_= i'm trying to fix that...

its NOT all 48 scales o_o if it was i wouldn't be online right now

its important i perfect my scales...my teacher drops people dead who don't practice their scales or pass the scale test...i've seen it happen...my friend nik D= fwshh! my teacher left him...x_X

...why didn't he leave kimberly though? o_o i think it are arpregios she didn't practice or i think the minors...(she's had him ten times longer then i have...only had the teacher for two months =P) well...o_o he's a weirdo soo yeah

If you are upgrading, then check out the R-13 Greenline, it's wood, and only costs a little more than a regular R-13, but it will last you many many years of marching and concert.

'Sup, clarinets? I bring you peace from the Saxophone section!

er.. *ahem*

I play the saxophone, and I was wondering, is it really easy to switch from the sax to clarinet? I don't wanna play it as my instrument in band or anything, I just wanna learn it on the side 'cause, well.. I must admit, clarinets are pretty cool. Anyway, is the embouchure pretty much the same? Is playing those weird little button-hole thingies similar to keys? Any major differences I should know? Thanks in advance for your help! heart

I play clarinet, but I did switch to the alto sax for a little bit. When I would play the low notes on the sax, if I used any of the fingers on my right hand it would go up an ocave, like pressing in the register key. I had to severely relax my embouchure to keep the note low

but for you, you might have a harder time with the really high notes, and you might need to have your embrouchure tighter when you play those notes. You might have trouble with some of the fingerings. low B flat on the clarinet is the same as F natural on the alto. but when you get into upper register on the clarinet, the fingerings for notes become the same for D thru C (I think).

Yeah... I can play the highest notes on the alto sax (high E.. I don't have a high F# key.. crying ) but it definitely is more difficult. Thanks for your advice! biggrin

Miyoko, you know better than that! C'mon, you should be playing the chromatic scale in 4 octaves now at least
