Earendil couldn't help but chuckle at that. "I can't help but think that that must be a good thing," he replied. "Having a celebration like this for every birthday ... and there are at least thirty people here ... that would cost a fortune. Although, I would imagine that if everyone had a celebration like this for every birthday, it wouldn't be as exciting, with it happening so often."
Rarity was what made something exciting or valuable. The more common, the less desired things were. Or so he found.

Lin chuckled, "And tiring... Though I don't think Mom imagined that the family would grow so big."
She wondered how her mother had ended up adopting so many children, though she was beginning to understand it just happened. So it seemed.

Earendil smiled. "Yes ... though to be fair, I don't think anyone really plans a family this large. I don't know of anyone else who has a family this large. Not immediate family, anyways."
He tried running through the people he knew in his head, but no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't think of anyone with more children than his grandparents: nine. Yet Kara had ... well, Earendil wasn't sure he wanted to count them all. And he suspected that not all of them were here (well possibly but there were a few he hadn't met properly so he didn't quite know).

Lin laughed at that and agreed, it was an unusually large family.
"Come on," she finally got up, "it's a buffet style, like at the New Year's celebration at the Borderlands. We'll grab Andarien on the way."
Though she looked over to where he was to see if he had asked his question yet.

Earendil nodded and rose as well, following Lin's gaze and looking for Andarien.
Being as tall as he was, he had no trouble spotting Andarien just turning away from Shiro and heading back towards their table.
"Here he comes," he smiled softly.
"Naaaaaa-naaaaaaa!" Andarien called as he ran back to them. "Shiro says fruity stuff is good!"

Miyuki slid off her seat to follow them, just in time to hear Andarien call back to their mother.
Lin chuckled, "That is good to know, well since your grandmother said dinner is ready, it means we go up to grab the food. It's different from other dinners, but with so many people here, it's the easiest way to make sure everyone gets served."
To self serve that is, it saves a lot of headaches.
"But no desert gets put on the plate until you've had something from the main course section," she told him.
Unlike the New Years where it didn't matter.

Andarien blinked and reached to take Lin's hand.
"Dessert?" he asked. "Well what is there for dessert? And what is there for main stuff?"
He didn't like sweet stuff very much, so he wasn't entirely sure why his mother had made a point of mentioning that. He liked main course food best - at least, usually.

"There are the sandwiches, pastry puffs and the buns on the left table are all the main course foods," Lin pointed to it, "There's also a bit of fruit and yogurt there too."
She pointed to the left, she knew that Andarien didn't like sweet stuff, but some of it didn't look like desert or were made with Andarien in mind.
"On the right are the deserts, the fruit tarts, and see that stand with all the little cakes? That's the main desert, but it gets to be a decorative centre piece while everyone is eating, see how it's decorated with the light dusting of powder sugar to look like gears? There's also some buns with some sweet paste in it. It's not supposed to be overly sweet, but you can judge that later."

Andarien eyed the sandwiches and pastries and buns, his mouth already beginning to water.
"Fruit for Eon, and the rest for me," he grinned up at Lin, his eyes sparkling. "Will you help me get things, Nana? I don't think I can carry much by myself."

Normally, Lin would have pointed out that Andarien could go up for seconds if he wished, however since he was also getting food for Eon as well he would probably be carrying more than usual anyways.
"Sure, let's go grab a plate," she motioned for him to follow her.

By the time they returned to the table, Andarien had taken one of everything for himself, as well as a few extra helpings of fruit for Eon. The Eevee ate his food happily, his tail flicking back and forth contentedly. Andarien was rather enjoying himself and the food, and for a while he even almost forgot about the chest that was awaiting him.

Lin had gone back to get her own plate of food, while Miyuki slid back into the seat next to Andarien. Her plate had more savory buns than it did sandwiches.
She took great pleasure in taking a large bite out of her bun.
They were also joined by Mi and Long, since neither of them had actually met Andarien yet.

Andarien glanced up as Mi and Long joined them, and a brief frown crossed his face. He didn't know these two ... at least, he didn't think he knew these two. He wasn't completely sure. There were an awful lot of people here, after all.
He poked Earendil's ribs, since Lin wasn't back yet, and whispered up at his father, "Did I meet them yet?"
Earendil looked down at Andarien, then over at Mi and Long. He smiled. "No. I'll introduce you."
And then he proceeded to do just that, introducing Mi and Long to Andarien as his great-grandparents.
Andarien smiled shyly at the pair. "Hi," he said softly.

"Hello," Mi bowed her head slightly.
He seemed quite shy to her, but if she recalled Miyuki was the same at first so she figured just give him time to get use to them.
Long, however didn't have this logic and gave Andarien a wide smile, "Hi! It's great to finally meet you! Having fun?"

Andarien's smile grew slightly wider, and he nodded at his energetic great-grandfather. "Yeah ... the food is really yummy, and Nana gave me a chest that has gears! And my Eevee hatched today and I called him Eon! So it's a really good day."
He tilted his head slightly. "Are you having fun, too?"
He wasn't sure grownups so much 'had fun' as simply 'enjoyed themselves', but it was worth asking.
