Hello, everyone.
To start things off here, I really do not give out my real name... So, I would appreciate it if everyone either called me K, or 'Kay.
Thanks. ^w^
I am eighteen years old, and I live on the East Coast of the United States of America (please send me a private message if you are particularly interested in which state.) I am now attending college and am aiming to get my Associate in Arts degree before transferring to a four-year college to get my bachelor's and master's degrees.
My first introduction to Dir en grey was actually through one of my closer friends at school. She lent me one of their albums, Kisou, and I listened to it for a week and gave it back (this was in the later part of 2003, so I was in eighth grade). I've been listening to them, ever since. Granted, I haven't heard all of their songs, and I haven't seen all of their music videos - given that I am not an "avid" fan, but I do find their music to be very inspirational. The first song that I listened to was off of their Kisou album - it is called Filth. However, the song that attached to me the most from the album is the song embryo. I later found out that embryo was also a single that Dir en grey had produced of the song on the album, so I looked it up. I actually prefer the single to the version on the album, now. However, the reason that the song meant so much to me was because it had a topic that I could relate to.
At first, even though I couldn't understand the words to any of Dir en grey's song, I was stunned by how much emotion was put into the music. It moved me. For each song, I felt a different emotional phase. It was later on that I listened to my favorite composition by them - Ain't Afraid to Die. During the song, I understood the remorse in Kyo's vocals, and I felt the emotion he was relaying through his vocals, but I felt it through the music, as well. Kaoru's solo was a phenomenal addition to the song - and, being that it was the first time I had ever listened to the song, I thought that it had been over, given the break between the last verse before the solo. Ain't Afraid to Die is the first song that I ever cried to, and without my actually having knowledge as to what the song was about. It is that value in music that I very much find to be an admirable quality - not only making the music sound good, but being able to express every little bit of the emotion throughout the song and having all of the instruments involved in the emotional expression - not just the vocals, and not just the bass, or the guitar, or the drums.
Some of my favorite songs by Dir en grey have all ready been listed (embryo and Ain't Afraid to Die,) but I also enjoy the songs saku, The Final, and one of the songs from their new album - The Marrow of a Bone, Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi. However, out of their music videos, I very much like Ain't Afraid to Die, embryo, [KR]Cube, Obscure, saku, The Final, and the video from one of the songs on their new album - The Marrow of a Bone, Ryoujoku no Ame. Out of all of the members of Dir en grey, I find that Kyo is my favorite member out of the band, being that he had been a wonderful idol in the vocal position for me to look up to (I am a vocalist, myself,) but I very much appreciate the work done by each member of Dir en grey and enjoy how each one of them adds to every song.
I will not say that I am addicted to Dir en grey, being that every time a new album comes out, I am not the type to just burst out and get all excited (Normally, someone has to tell me about a month after, or so, that they recently got the new album, and I'll be like, "Oh? They have a new album? Is it any good?" I don't check up on their site or on any blogs for their new stuff.) I also will not say that I am a huge fan of theirs, but I will comment that I do appreciate their music, and am enthralled by the message they have promised to send out to the world - and how hard they are working to do so! They are among one of my favorite bands, and they are currently my favorite band - but that normally changes depending on my moods for each day.
So, ah... Yeah... I think that just about sums everything up.
Not sure if any of you role play, but I do role play Kyo, from time to time. If anyone is interested in role playing, drop me a line. However, I joined this guild mostly in the hopes of just making new friends - so, keep that in mind, as well.
