Well i say it's the old one cause of the flash that was made some time ago. Sure we didn't use it but she was updated in the little flash. I think it was the one where Remi and Flan were "dancing".
i can't link now cause of errors getting to the site.

Seriousness in this thread? *Falls over laughing*

Also, I just found out about the whole Touhou TRPG thing again a bit ago. Interesting overall, wondering how much it's changed with the new version...

I don't know about anyone else, but when I picture someone saying dub-exclusive material is superior to the original material, I usually picture the person saying it in that dopey-sounding cartoon voice used to show the person is not only EXTREMELY stupid, but also SO MENTALLY IMPAIRED that NO AMOUNT of attempts at educating the person will make him or her any smarter than the person is now. I even picture the person as doing things such as saying "am" instead of "is" or "are", and I even intentionally misspell words if I'm typing out the person's statement, imagining the words being written in EXTREMELY sloppy and illegible handwriting.

Well, I agree with this.

A common problem with subs and dubs is that the difference between the Japanese and English languages is so high, that a lot of information can get lost in translation with great ease. Besides, the huge number of homonyms and different kanji readings provides room for lots of different wordplays, that will get lost unless you clutter the dubbing with translator notes (which is something that won't happen if the material is dub-exclusive).

Yea. A nosy little witch using your house as if it was her own and borrowing stuff without permission 24/7 is certainly not funny.

By the way, my instincts tell me that the term "Trollosuke" has a huge lulz potential.

Well i didn't make Trollosuke. When reading the little Rinnosuke manga translates on Danbooru. Rinnosuke tends to do mean things like giving Momiji a bone for valentines day instead of chocolate. (You can't give chocolate to a dog, right?). Or even went as far as to keep Aya away with a scarecrow (the weird disc that looks like an eye).

Also, the artist's version of Rinnosuke (how he drew him) is what i used. you can danbooru "hidefu kitayan" to see his other works.

ADV released Pani Poni Dash with ADV Notes, on-screen notes that helped explain the REFERENTIAL MESS that is PPD.

It was BEAUTIFUL, MAN. BEeee-AUTI-FOOOOOOOOOOOL/.

also insane. and awesome. insanewesome.

There are good dubs and there are bad dubs. Usually, shows that contain a lot of Japanese-specific terms and culture don't translate as well in dub, but the effort is there. Shows that are more culture-neutral tend to have better dubs. Drama and Sci Fi tend to translate better, while comedy is always a Pain In The a**.

And then there's the subject of casting, but that can be VERY hit and miss. I've seen both good (The Pani Poni Dash is quirky enough to keep the madness afloat), and bad (As much as it pains me to say it, half of the Lucky Star cast is... Augh. And the other half is "Meh").

I'm not against dubs, but I'm not saying every series should forcibly have one, you know? PPD survived because its idiomatic complexities were relatively sparse, and could be somewhat adapted... But shows like Zetsubou Sensei? Un-dubbable. Totally Un-dubbable. It's an anime that relies way too much in wordplay and language. A dub would be HORRIBLE and also PAINFUL TO WATCH.

So, yeah. Dubs can be good or bad, but it's all relative. ALL. RELATIVE.

Agreed on both. In Lucky Star, I actually liked Yutaka's friend circle better than Konata's. And I consider the PPD cast to be particularly awesome.

I NEED to see it in the original language first before I watch the English dub, and even then I'll probably only watch it once if at all no matter how good or accurate it is.

That's just how my thought process works... multiple paths of logic for every possible dubbing scenario, and most (if not all) point to the original version being the preferable one no matter how good the English dub is due to the original version coming out first, wanting an experience similar to what the original audience got, and the English dub likely being unavailable in the country of origin. :/

Dub speak, eh? I have one thing to say about all that:

COWBOY

BEBOP

I've never seen it in Japanese, and I probably never will.
