I grew up reading classic science fiction and fantasy cuz of my dad. He was a Sci-Fi/Fantasy kid growing up in the 60's with the Twilight Zone, Dungeons and Dragons, War of the Worlds radio broadcast, and Lord of the Rings, so I was raised in that kind of environment. :3
I think the actual genre "Steampunk" came on my radar in college though. I started making friends who were interested in Sci-Fi, Pulp, B-Movies, Victoriana, and DIY projects (among other things). XD
I came to love 19th century British art after taking art history classes on in college.
One of my friends showed me Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog.
About half a year ago I read an article about Steampunk, and I thought to myself, "That's it! That is a word that can describe my interests." cool

I have always loved the style. It must have been an innate characteristic because I've always been fascinated by steampunk as far as I can remember. I believe I found out what it was actually called either through Gaia or my Lolita-craze and well, the rest is history.
I'm going slightly mad.

I didn't learn that what I liked had a name or that it was categorized until about a month ago when one of my friends said... "Uh dude... That's steampunk." I started liking it when I came across movies like Brazil, Metropolis, Wild Wild West, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and The City of Lost Children. As I started getting more into anime I found some others like: Steamboy, Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, and Full Metal Alchemist. I love books by Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. It was kind of awesome when I got home after my friend said it was Steampunk and started doing some research on it. It was indeed something I liked and I was kind of glad he told me otherwise I would have never found communities such as these or any of the nifty how-to tutorials floating around the net.

Steam powered robot action, car chases, and good old fashioned detective stories.

-♪ Surprisingly, it was my Mum who got me into it by showing me the Brass Goggles website a while back. ♪- -♪ Unfortunately I forgot about it. Then I started to crave it. xD ♪- -♪ Now I'm painting cigar boxes bronze, planning how to change a Canadian Airforce flight suit into a very zippered jacket, and trying to save for some brass goggles. ♪-

Well, I dunno, I've always felt a bit nostalgic for the moral values of the Victorian Era and I thought that their fashion sense was particularily interesting. I also had Rise of Legends for a long time, the Vinci was my favorite nation, then I saw this dude's sig, and I Wikied Steampunk and here I am!

Hello there, well what made me Steampunk. I think its that I have a fascination in most passing fads you know, I mean i have been with gaia for quite some time now. I always seem to become caught up in whatever the underlaying cool thing is. When it was scene avatars I was there when it was colour layering I was there. n.n So, there is a little snippet into the workings of a young English lad Billy Purkiss.

Well, to be honest it was Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky. That was the first time that I can recall seeing sky pirates and airships, and as I've always been fascinated by piracy, I was hooked. I started googling the like, and came across steampunk, and I haven't turned back since.

I'm just a slacker right now, Untill I'm living on my own, and have a steady income will I actually aim to steampunk.
But it would be it's unick style it has, where you must constructed your own style of steampunks, not just go to a fashion store. the more authentic the materials the better.
