...now, with everything that had happened, she simply couldn't keep up that act. At least none of the people she knew were anywhere around to see her, so her reputation of being a tough girl would be well intact. Even with all of her anxiety about her job, she couldn't bring herself to stand and face what lay in wait when she reached that place.

I'm only likely to get fired from the only job I have...

Eli could sympathize with Lily's feelings but he felt she might be over-reacting due to the recent stress. He himself had other concerns that had been disrupted but there was nothing he could do to help it so why bother?

"Don't you think it would be a little hard for your boss to deny the situation that kept you from work. I mean, granted it does sound really weird but " and he felt a twitch of uncomfortableness considering his initial feelings towards her " we're here to at least back up your story. Not only that but stuff like this just doesn't happen and not get around quickly."

Daniel piped in.

"Yeah and you could probably go get a Police Report or something from him" He said pointing to the Police officer wrapping up his chat with the small group of people. "Would that make you feel better?" He crouched down in front of Lily and looked at her.

...With great determination, she lowered herself down a step by taking off her last high heel, and took as much aim as she could before she tossed it with a good amount of force, well as much as she could muster... which was not saying too much. Question was, was it enough? Would it obliterate the evil mocking spider? Or would the conspiracy behind the spider keep on growing?! Gah, she hoped not!

Smack! The shoe hit the volume button on the radio and once again missed the spider. Regardless, the spider scurried away at the impact. Skitting across the side it disappeared around the back. The volume on the station had been turned up and it would have been difficult to ignore the news report now that it seemed to monopolize all noise to be heard. If she didn't turn it down quickly Ashley would hear an interesting, if not odd, report.

"...Downtown Officials told us they were reluctant to block off certain streets for this afternoons watch party but informed us the area in and around Main Street is going to see slow traffic. This all started weeks ago when a gentlemen in the community allegedly made contact with one of the supposed 'Worm-People' and apparently the word traveled quickly and soon they filed for an official permit to congregate there this afternoon. For more on this, visit met-news dot com or watch our regularly scheduled telecast at noon. Now for Mike with the weather..."

HELLANiiCE
...She put her head onto his chest and hummed a song until help had arrived. Jamison was going to be alright. She could feel it in her gut, and her gut was always right.

They lay quite a way down from the ground they had just been standing on. Jamison, while still alive, lost consciousness and did not respond at all to Zeyla. Others who had fallen with them were in a panic. Some of their friends lay dead, covered in blood and rock. The ground rumbled on for a while longer until the sound was replaced by a wave of terror mixed with unnatural screeching. Some ran, others who had a better view of the street above stood in shock at what they saw. In either case it was obvious Zeyla and Jamison were going unnoticed and it was up to Zeyla to handle the situation. Try and take Jamison up and flee, or stay.

Mortal Being
...With one hand held on the rung, and the other digging in his pocket, he grabbed onto a dog bone and threw it at the nearest one. Was it dead on? Eh like he cared, all he wanted to do was just to get their attention, which sounded bad enough.

Even though he did look at them, and could see the gashes across their flesh. However, he was not familiar with their species, and did not know the difference between a wounded one or a non wounded one.

Thunk! The bone smacked one of the creatures in what could be assumed to be its face. It writhed uncomfortably and either through frightening coincidence or as a direct result of what just happened, the ground shook at a deep, bass sound coming from below the ground. Immediately the two straightened up, one with a slight waver, and paused. With intense speed, they rushed by Aaron frighteningly fast. But they did not stop at him and instead entered the open door to Aaron's right and slithered out of sight. An empty bottle that had been knocked over by the creatures sat spinning, scratching on the alley floor.

Lily took a deep, shuddering breath, then brought her eyes up to look first at Daniel, then at Eli. She offered them both a soft smile as she wiped her tear stained cheeks and struggled to her feet. She swallowed hard, pushing her anxiety to the back of her mind, and brushed herself off. "You know what, you're right. Maybe I'll just go over to that officer, that way there is proof I'm not lying." She laughed softly, a little sheepishly, but friendly nonetheless. She then slowly made her way over to the police officer, seeing that he seemed to be finishing up with small group. She could deal with Frank once she was done here. Besides, its not like he was going to fire one of his best employees. Perhaps she was merely over-reacting due to the events of the day.

Her legs still wobbled slightly as she began to cover the gap, and she looked back over her shoulder to see if Eli and Daniel would follow. She didn't expect them to baby her or anything. No, it was more that she felt a little more comfortable knowing that they were there. They had already helped her so much, but she didn't expect them to help her any further. She owed them so much, simply for their help in the sewer. She smiled once more then turned her gaze forward, fixing her sapphire eyes on the man in the uniform.

Ashley was so tempted in turning the radio off, but all she could manage to do was lower it slowly as she got intrigued. "Worm-People?" She wondered if it was some kind of promotional skit for a new movie coming out. Although she was not too big in facts, she did know movies, and knew that they would start up some kind of rumor going around before the release of an undercover movie. If that was the case, she would want in on the casting.

So perhaps she could find on the internet. To her luck, she did own a computer, more or less it was a laptop. more or less because of all the rebooting she had to do to it, it was a horrible beast, but she got through with it. And connected to the internet. "What was that website again?" Ashley forgot to write it down, but it wasn't too hard to recall. Just took her a minute to think about it. "Ah!" 'Met-news.com' type type, she had it all out, and clicked on the go. Now all she had to do was wait for the website to load up.

Alaina stared in horror at the group that was being attacked by the horrid slimy creature. She wished she could look away from the hideous thing, but she had never seen anything like it; it's arms were curved in the shape of scythes, and they didn't look any less dangerous. This was becoming more and more like a horrible nightmare, or maybe even a horror movie. Her heart plummeted when Carlos started over to help the group attack the monster. She looked back at Ryan with a horrible expression, seeing he felt the same way as she did. Turning her head she called out desperately to Carlos, "NO! Come back, Carlos!" she pleaded. Her last thought seemed more correct than ever, and if in fact it was, Carlos would be the 'brave character' that ended up dying in pursuit. When she didn't get a response, she turned to face Ryan. "Ry, we have to get out of here! We have to take.. Leslie with us, " she strained to say her name. Sure, it was true that she was dead, but that didn't mean her body had to rest in this monstrous place. Attempting to pick up her friend's lifeless body, she nodded at Ryan towards the exit. Going as quickly as she could, she made her way over the rubble.

As Lily approached the officer Eli and Daniel stood in silence. Daniel's quiet was one of patience. He simply was waiting until Lily was finished and then they'd be rejoined. Eli's silence was different. He remembered at first being reluctant to even helping Lily. He didn't like girls and he wasn't to keen on letting a stranger know he was afraid. Shuffling his feet a little, he thought uncomfortably of how he now stood a little disheartened as Lily walked away. Despite himself he wondered what would happen now. With all that had happened, it hadn't occured to him what he would do when it came time to part ways.

-

The officer scribbled a note on his paper and relayed a message through his radio. A girl approached the wreckage. She appeared a little shaken up and he figured she must have been there when it happened too. Though he could have sworn he checked and double checked for anyone else and he was positive he hadn't seen her. Nevertheless, he flipped his notepad over to a fresh page and addressed the girl.

"How can I help you?"

The page loaded and Ashley was shown the main website for channel 7 news. Complete with drop-down menus for sport, weather and the like: this wasn't a hoax or some ploy to draw in actors. A flash animation showcased the story about the alleged worm-people. Highlighting the report from Main Street was going to be a reporter named Johnathan. Rather comedically the computer froze showing Johnathan in a humorous pose. Then an error message appeared and Ashley would have to reboot the computer if she wanted to continue using it. She also would need to look elsewhere if she wished to find a new role.

It was hard work, negotiating the debris and earth trying to reach the exit. Only adding to the difficulty was the care that needed to be taken to keep their fallen friend's body from further harm. Thoughts of guilt at leaving Carlos behind squirmed uncomfortably inside Ryan. Carlos seemed in such a frenzy after realizing Leslie's fate, perhaps he was being too rash, perhaps he was centering all of his emotions on someone else to keep his mind off Leslie. Carlos bounded on the creature and the people he would help. Ryan helped Alaina as they passed into the tunnel. Neither looked back.

Above, a loud crumbling came and moments later a massive slab of concrete slammed into the ground below, covering the entrance to the tunnel Alaina and Ryan had only just entered. Darkness enveloped them and the sound of others talking and yelling further down the curving tunnel met their ears. Their path was set.

Lily stopped a few feet from the officer. She was regaining her tough girl appearance with every passing moment, as her anxiety slowly slipped away from her. She took about two more steps, than stopped entirely. She was alittle unsure of what to say, and her own confusion showed on her face. "Umm, I think I have to report to you, don't I? I mean, I was around when those....things came out of the ground." Her voice was hesitant at first, and she struggled with the word 'things', remembering the horror of the tunnel. She shook her head slightly, trying to free her mind of those thoughts. She had almost followed the creatures, when they had all gone down the tunnel, but her better judgement, and perhaps a bit of fear, had pushed her away from them. Now, as she stood on the silent street, curiousity nagged at her, scolding her for not following and perhaps discovering what that noise had been, or where those creatures had slithered off to.

'Okay,' his mind raced with thoughts, 'either... they really hate dogs, and dog food, or there is something really wrong going on...' So why did they run off really? He didn't hit them hard, he was sure of that, after all how much could a human do to a thing that could kill a dog so quickly? So it wasn't a matter of that, could it have been the fact that the earth shook? Perhaps they were chased out of the earth by hell itself, and it was trying to devour them once more... No wait! Crap! They couldn't get up the ladder could they? No... but if he climbed up to the roof, and if they are going up the stairs in the building, they'd get him on the roof. Of course was it really worth jumping down to take off towards the street? They might just be toying with him, waiting for him to make a mistake. They were probably intelligent little beast, all horror movies had intelligent bad guys or stupid people, and he didn't want to believe he was stupid, so they had to be intelligent! So what would he do? He'd hold onto the ladder until the coast was clear. He'd give it about two, three minutes before he made a clear cut decision on going up or down, but currently, going down was a better choice, he wasn't in the mood to climb the ladder.

The officer waited to hear the same story he had heard the whole morning but it didn't come. This girl had to be joking. She shook her head slightly and a look of concentration was on her face after she finished. But she also looked distracted, as if her thoughts were scattered. Was she drunk?

"Excuse me...things coming out of the ground?" The officer began "I'm sorry miss, I have no idea what you are talking about. I realize stress can lead to overexaggeration but nothing was coming out of the ground. This bus" he pointed to the overturned vehicle "swerved to miss a open manhole cover and ended up toppling over." He eyed her suspiciously, he wasn't sure if she was joking or simply too out of it to be coherent.
