I can't call anything past the "Lakes" era death metal with a clear conscience myself. I still advocate folk, since that's probably the most consistent element in their music since the beginning.

Just put it in the Death Forum, not the folk.

Hmmmm...well, I wonder if by that precedent, Mercenary should be moved from power metal...?

Gravechylde I'd say for the most part we should go by what their known for. Have you listened to Mercenary at all? They're also really hard to categorize. It doesn't help that I've never encountered anyone else that listened to them... xp

This is a great thread. :3
I have a few questions:
1. Since Wikipedia is unreliable and M-A too most of the time, then where do you get your information on the bands' genres from then? Someone mentioned some 'storm' site or something?
2. When you speak about the genre thrash, do you type it out as thrash or trash? I saw both variations used in this thread, are both correct?

Dark_Mana 1. Since Wikipedia is unreliable and M-A too most of the time, then where do you get your information on the bands' genres from then? Someone mentioned some 'storm' site or something? If you've listened to a wide variety of bands from each genre and understand the general sound and what to listen for in each genre you can usually come up with a fairly accurate judgement. M-A is probably the most reliable website, being a site for metalheads by metalheads. Quote: 2. When you speak about the genre thrash, do you type it out as thrash or trash? I saw both variations used in this thread, are both correct? It's thrash, I usually just think it's a typo if I see "trash" metal.

Thanks for the answers!

Thanks for the answers! Some bands are indeed trickey to tell, especially if they mix two genres together and the sound is 50/50. Just do your best or ask in here, it's all good.
