He now felt silly for being jealous. Well, that'll teach you to jump to conclusions, he thought, turning a little bit more red. He cleared his throat. "Nothing, nothing." He stopped a passing waiter and ordered a glass of water. "So you were orphans before then? What happened to your parents?"

She frowned a little bit, her blue eyes clouded suddenly with the depressing memory. She didn't really miss them, not much. She had Tangerine and she had always been there for her. It was just the memory... It wasn't pleasent. The only reason she was telling this man was that he was now part of her crew and she held a certain loyalty to her crew. She heaved a great sigh and sat up straight, folding her hands over themselves on the table.
"A long time ago... When I was 7, because I lived with my Uncle for 3 years before I ran away... I was sleeping, late, late at night. My parents were downstairs when the door burst open. Someone broke into our house and killed them. I hid underneath my mother's vanity. They were pirates." Marilene concluded, her voice distant and cold, unlike it's gentle warmness.

"Huh," he said contemplatively, then thanking the waiter for bringing him his water. "Quite ironic, that. Life has this funny way of making you do things you think you'd never do, doesn't it?" He would have liked to sound sympathetic, but pity was probably the last thing she was looking for. Though, women were odd. You never could tell. "Sometimes," he said, talking into his glass, "you've got to think that people like her are running the world," indicating Asherah, who had decided that balancing a straw on one's nose was an applaudable feat and was doing so while exclaiming "Lookitlookitlookit!"

Sadly, Asherah's feat was applaudable for Tangerine was clapping wildly and dancing about, trying to entice an old man to dance with her as she clapped.
Marilene rolled her eyes, ignoring the two. She shrugged a little in reply. She looked up at Arron with big eyes, as if what she was saying was normal.
"Not really. I became a pirate for the very reason my parents were killed. It looked marvelous. And of course that sweet old man let us on board... And it was history ever since." And very calmly she reached forward, brushing her fingers against his, and plucked his cup of water from him, taking a delicate drink.

He blushed again. She had soft hands for a pirate. Though... so did he. "Wow," he said nervously. "That's erm... quite a story." He thought about letting his competitive side show and make his history seem more... elegant and complicated. But then, that would be stupid. "I honestly can't say that I could match that.

Marilene took one last delicate dip and peered at him over the top.
"I'm sure you could. You were on a ship with her." She indicated Asherah. "I bet you could best me on my most interesting day. So, let's hear it. She added. She held the drink up and opened his hands, setting it back between them. Truthfully he was warm and soft and she was just a smidgit cold.

Arron laughed. "Alright, but only because you insist. Shall I tell you of the day when first we met? We were out at sea at this point and we heard some rattling down below. We'd just left port little more than an hour before and we thought it might be a rat or something that found its way aboard. Of course, I was sent to go check it out because...well... I wasn't doing anything else, to be quite frank. So I go down and the rattling is coming from this chest. It wouldn't have done very well for me to just leave after that so I unlocked it and she just pops out and lands on me." He sighed, remembering the bruises she left. But then, he bruised like a banana. "And that's how we met."

Marilene frowned a bit, unsure exactly why. Bruises? Sounds... fishy. She didn't like it. Her entrance wasn't so memorable and for something deep inside her she couldn't quite grasp, she didn't like it.
"How did you become a pirate?" She inquired, her eyes big and blue as she leaned forward a little to pay more attention to his story.

"Well that's easy enough," he said, taking another sip of water, passively noting that the water glass was like a proverbial conch shell, signifying each person's turn to speak. "I was tired of training to be a tax-man. And since no one likes taxes, and very few people like pirates, I figured it would be a prime place to start and work my way up. But of course, that didn't work very well because once you're in you're in and there's no turning back really. But that's the why. The how was a bit more like a recruitment session. They said they'd take anyone and sure enough they did. Though they did make quite a fuss about how my hands were 'woman's hands' and whatnot." He rolled his eyes, smirking. Those were... awkward conversations they'd had back in those days.

Tangerine was close to passing out, or at least falling at this point, and Marilene knew their conversation would soon be ending. Too soon. She reached over, plying Arron's hands from the conch shell shaped cup and held them over the table, palm up to gaze at them. She studied them carefully, slowly moving delicate fingers over the creases.
"Why... They look perfectly fine to me. Rough hands are barbaric." Marilene replied, her cheeks a rosy tint. Why she doing these bold things were beyond her, but she was doing them. She held his hand still and very timidly, looked up at him, her crystaline eyes shimmering the in dim light. "I like them."

((Ooooh~ Marilene's being bad~ xp ))

((When I said that the cup resembled a conch shell, I was being metaphorical. Conch shells are what people used in the old days to signify someone's turn to speak in a group that keeps talking over each other. Nowadays they use something else, like a koosh ball or something, but the principle is the same. xDD))

Arron turned a deepened shade of red and swiftly stuffed his hands into his pockets. "Well, I... I'm glad you like them. I... um, like them too." He cleared his throat. "You have very nice... er..." There was a growing list of thing she had that were nice. He decided on eyes. Eyes were a good place to start. "You have very nice eyes." Which he knew sounded like a rotten pick-up line as soon as it escaped his mouth.

"Guaraaloffin'ballerafurgshintzlebit..." Asherah garbled in a way that suggested that she was drunk enough to lose all verbal comprehension, but clearly not drunk enough, and took another swig of rum.

Marilene only blushed bright red for a moment before the gibber-jabber from Asherah started up. Marilene clamped a hand over her mouth, trying to hold back the barrage of snickering. It was an entirely funny thing, or nonthing she had just said. She sighed though and stood up, straightening her back a little as she looked at Arron, her blue eyes piercing him as she smiled ever so slightly.
"Thankyou. But i'm sure you weren't just admiring my eyes. Now if you mind, would you help me with our druken... Companions?" She smiled despite her Captain cries of 'Another round'.

((Sorry. XP I was being metophoric too! So there! XDD))

Arron smiled awkwardly. Am I really that transparent, he thought. He always thought that he put on a good act, hiding his emotions and thoughts from others, but for some reason he always let it down around women. Which was how Asherah could push his buttons so easily. But then, he assumed that she could do that to anyone she wanted to.

"Right," he said, trying to force the color from his face away. Fortunately, this was not the first time he'd had to carry a semi-conscious woman on his back, and of course it was the same semi-conscious woman every time. "Okay, Asherah. Time to go."

"Rallehflaggernslapforshenshammeh," she whispered in his ear as though it were something very important.
Arron nodded as if it made any sense.

"Where exactly are we heading?"

Tangerine suddenly jumped up, pointing toward the door, although it was really just toward the window close to it.
"BEACH HOUSH!!" She said, stumbling forward as Marilene rushed forward, grabbing her arm.
"We're going to our beach house." She replied, leading the three out the door and back toward the way they had all met on the beach.

"Oh, so you have a beach house, do you," he said, adjusting the weight of the drunken woman on his back. "That's mighty convenient." "Ijusswannedyuterknowatye'remuhfavritanine'erloiked'owSmittytrettedjye..."
