So many theories, only one true answer. Perhaps this is one of those moments where you discover that 'You may never know'-until, perhaps, DOC comes out! 3nodding I look forward to that game. It looks good, real good. Not to mention I love the character you get to play! OOH! It shall be fun. Honestly, the two theories that I like best are:
1. His hand was exposed to mako energy during expieremental process- or 2. That he has his regular arm underneath the Gauntlet and uses it to kick butt when out of amo. Who knows. That is just my favorites. xp

No... Yuffie and Cait Sith would know if there was candy in that arm. Judging by the way it sort of hangs there and does nothing, I'd say it's respnsible for his limit skills. They took off his arm and replaced it with a prosthetic(sp) with all the technology inside.

Actually, the truth behind it( i know this because i have compiled alot of data throughout vincents carrer)
Its actually just a glove.
a metal glove, a gauntlet. no mako, no robot, nothing. its just another part of his arsinal, they put it there, cause they were gonna make a game for vincent.
and i have found through further interrogations, the dirge of ceburs was actually thought of a few years after FF7 came out. they just wanted it to look better. they have been planing this game for a few years now, and wanted it to look the best it could, so they waited.
its also there, just for people like you to try and guess whats under there.
he just holds his gun one handed to show off.
jezzus, you call yourselves FF7 fans....
these statements are not authorized, and have not been proven true by the square soft/enix company, this is just the authors idea, and oppinion, it may be true, witch it probably is, but then again, like i said, it has not been proven by square yet...still working on that....

None of what you said has any backup or truth to it whatsover. You've offered no proof, no reasoning, and your little mini disclaimer at the end right after you mispelled and used the lord's name in vain is rather lame. Next time you post, please try to put a little more thought into it, or I'll have to give you a warning or something, and I don't particularly like doing that.

Well i think its about time everyone found out. It is a demonic arm. Hidden and sealed by his Claw. Yes, it is a golden, metalic claw. It is used to help control the demons, especially Chaos, inside of Vincent after the incident with Hojo. There, is everyone happy now?

Well, despite what many people have stated about his arm having anything to do with his limit breaks, I still say it's a gauntlet. Here is more evidence to support my case: Dirge of Cerberus, and Vincent as Galian Beast.
As you all may or may not know, Dirge of Cerberus takes place three years after the events of Final Fantasy VII, but focuses on the story of none other than Vincent Valentine. Scans from at least a few weeks ago have CONFIRMED that Vincent WILL be using his limit breaks, although the only one we've seen him use so far is Galian Beast, which has recieved a design update of sorts due to the greater graphical prowess of the PS2 over the original Playstation. Here is a scan of Vincent as Galian Beast, the original scan courtesy of AdventChildren.Net...:

Now, as you can see, Vincent still retains certain portions of his wardrobe after transforming. This includes his gauntlet. Notice how he still wears both gloves (the one on his right hand and the gauntlet on his left), in addition to his pants and portions of his cloak. Now, let us take an even closer look at his left arm, shall we? biggrin
Vincent's left arm: Up close and personal...

Now, here is further proof that it is indeed a gauntlet, as opposed to being a mechanical prosthetic. You see, if you look closely at his palm, you'd see a very defined shape of a normal palm, something that Vincent would NOT have if it had been a mechanical prosthetic. Also, it wouldn't be hard to surmise that the material on the inner most portions of the gauntlet are made of leather, as if he is wearing a leather glove (much likethe one on his right hand) covered by the metal gauntlet. The parts covering his fingers go somewhere between the first and second joint on each finger from the knuckle on his hand, except for his thumb, where it is around the one joint before the thumb connects with the rest of the hand. I believe that, also based off of his right hand, that these sharp metallic coverings on his fingers are pushed forward slightly because his fingers extend during the transformation (look at his right hand for more insight onto it).
Had Vincent had a mechanical appendage as opposed to an organic one, then it would not have changed in size or shape at all (Vincent's palm is smaller than what Galian Beast has). In fact, we'd probably see something really odd, such as a strange growth around it when he transforms, or something that would make him look a little... off, as far as he is concerned.
I do, however, realize that not much of this (or anything else, for that matter) can be proven as true until we see the real deal in Dirge of Cerberus, once it's released. Thus, you do not have to agree with my view on him having a gauntlet as opposed to a prosthetic.
Now, all that being said, I'm going to comment on what's really been bugging me... Is this arm of his (under the gauntlet, if you follow that theory) a normal looking arm, or is it something horrendous?
Well, I say it's normal.
First off, there are those of you who say that this arm of his is the center of where his limits come from, or where Chaos and his other limits reside when Vincent is in his normal form. That, or it somehow has some connection with his limits.
A limit break, in Final Fantasy VII, was defined as (by none other than Cloud Strife) as being a rush of emotion, somewhat akin to rage, that allowed the individual feeling it to perform an extraordinary attack upon their foe(s). It might also be compared to an extremely effective adrenaline rush. No where, in all of Final Fantasy VII, does it state that limit breaks originate from a single part of the body. Limit breaks are special attacks that are triggered by the extremes in the emotions that a character is feeling at any given time. If Vincent's limit breaks were somehow centralized in his left arm, then it would only be the ARM itself that changes, and it would also mean that Cloud, Tifa, and the others would have some really whacked out limit breaks, depending on where their limit breaks are 'centralized' in their bodies.
Thus, if Vincent were to have a limit break, only his left arm would transform into Galian Beast's claw, or Death Gigas' muscular arm, and it would thus be practically useless.
*tosses limit break theory out the window*
Now, that being done and said, lets look at some other theories concerning his left arm. Hmm... How about we look a little further into how special it is, concerning Chaos and the other three forms Vincent can take?
Now, it is very common for fanfiction writers and fans alike to assume that these other forms of Vincent have some sort of consciousness of their own. Considering the fact that Vincent goes berserk after using his limit breaks, that might be the case, since he does not control what he does during the period of time he is in any other form because the game's AI controls him. Now, if the consciousness of these other forms were to reside in Vincent, where would be the best place for them to reside? Definitely not that arm of his, oh no siree. It's too far away from his central nervous system to do any good. In fact, it'd most likely be his BRAIN where they'd reside. Hell, it's more likely that they'd hide somewhere up the crack of his a** than in his arm, because controlling an appendage alone doesn't make sense. It's just not effective. razz
*tosses beast consciousness/powers focused in left arm theory out the window as well, while barely missing the naighbors cat*
Okay, that's some of the bigger theories. Now, how about what the arm itself LOOKS like? Is it hideous looking, mutated beyond repair due to Hojo's experiments, or is it just a normal looking hand with no special super powers?
I still, again, say it's a normal hand. If the hand had been deformed in any way (beyond any simple discoloration of the skin or difference in texture), then the gauntlet would probably hve to be of a bigger size, as well as the glove he wears underneath. There would be NOTICABLE differences in size and proportion compared to the rest of his body, and if it was indeed mutated, it would probably be something like a Jenova arm or whatever. If it were mutated, it would NOT fit into that guantlet of his. Not if Hojo's the reason he mutated.
When Hojo messes you up, he really messes you up. Look at what he did to himself when you fight him on the Sister Ray. DAMN, that's nasty.
Honestly, aside from any scarring he might have (which could be on ANY part of his body), I figure that his arm is pretty normal. Hopefully, we'll see more insight into this matter once Dirge of Cerberus is released. biggrin
On another note, yes, in the game Dirge of Cerberus, Vincent is shown putting his gauntlet to use (doing either a slash or stabbing attack), just like how he's finally using his oh-so-pointy boots to kick Deep Ground SOLDIERS in the shins.
Damn, that's gotta hurt.

I think it was just a robotic arm or something like a prostetic. He never really uses it like a monster arm. it'll be interesting to see how S=E uses it in Cerberus.
