"Reason is only effective with beings that believe in intelligence and logic as higher methods of communication than war. The vampires are not such beings. They live by a code that honors the warrior above the sage, and culture that holds disdain for the philosopher. They won't hold council unless their entire species is at risk, which is obviously not the scenario. The only way to make them seek diplomacy is to make them the weaker party. I for one hope to beat them into bloody submission, if at all possible."

When he finished speaking, he cringed. Matthias expected rebuttal at his sudden outburst, first because of its emotional and personal fuel, and second because of his much lesser status. He was a guest, and only because of his lucky appearance at the scene of the crime which had been the reason behind this meeting. Now he worried he would be expelled, and never allowed back, his mere presence scorned by all those held in such high regards...

He could only pray that his fears would be for naught.

Cane jumped from his seat at the sudden outburst.
"You forget your place," Cane growled at Matthias. He looked as if he was ready to fight. "You are-"

"You forget your place, Cane," Dara growled at the wolf, reluctantly silencing him. "I say silence to you, Cane, unless your opinion is asked apon. And if you cannot controlle yourself again, I will force you out of here. I am in no mood today, Cane, and you are just tempting me."

"But, Dara, he is not of the council," Cane growled.

"And you are, and should behave as such," Dara growled, her voice low and threatening. "Honestly, you are a grown man and should know how to controlle your emotions. They are weakness, Cane, and in our world they are death."

Cane glared at Dara for a moment before turning his glare to Matthias, showing who he obviously blamed for Dara acting against him.

Dara turned back to the table. "Matthias brings up another good point," she said, and noticed the tension in the other heads ease slightly as if they had all been holding in one collective breath. "We cannot reason with them unless they are in the same situation as we are. To which I am at a loss. I am curious, though," she said, turning back to Matthias, "How would you propose we try and even the odds?"

Matthias let a smirk come to his features briefly as Dara berated Cane, but pushed it away quickly. It was a shameful expression, and knew it was not one to be displaying amongst the council. So he listened, thankful that his fears had been wasted, and that Dara was at his defense. He perused the faces of the council, wondering what exactly their thoughts were on his words. He swallowed quickly, before he gave an answer to the Alpha.

"Well... First, I would like to know, and hear honestly, what the rest of the council thinks of... opinion on the matter..." He paused, trying to collect the right words. "I worry that I may be... speaking from a point of view all too personal for the situation, and lacking the proper objective point of view that is required to properly evaluate. So, please, if I may, I ask the council's various opinions on what I have said before I answer your next question, Lady Dara."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2007 11:18 pm

Dara gave but a breif nod to his words before turning back to the council and looking at them for input. To Dara's surprise it was Rone's subtle voice that spoke up. Usually the silent type, Rone was ever an observer and would usually only give his opinions to Dara after a meeting, for which he would tell her only when he was sure no one else could hear.

"We are all tainted by our own experiences here," Rone said, his softer voice carying over the room like a soft wash of a wave on the sand. "None of us have enough distance from the problems to ever give a truly fair desision but we all try to keep the pack in mins as we make decisions here. I have heard the debates we have held here for long hours and once or twice days. With each passing moment we try and fight off our attackers who only see themselves as victims such as us. Some of us see that we can reason with the vampires some say we can't. But we need a chance. Just a small one. What is hurting us, more than anything right now, is the packs lack of hope. We need fire. We need a reason to live and continue. If we can weaken the vampires in any way, I say we take it as it may just be the spark that lights the fire."

The entire room was silent as his words fell away. No one quite knowing how to respond as the truth of them washed over them.

Lion was the first to speak. "We are not the last of our kind," he said, to which everyone reluctantly listened. "There are others out there that were outcasts from our very own pack and the remains of the other two packs."

"But they are interbred with the humans now," Zone growled.

"And they are our bretheren," Lion returned. "They are hunted and killed just as us. We could probably double if not tripple our numbers if we allow them back into our folds."

"I thought that all the other packs were gone," Dara asked curiously, once again reminding the entire pack as to how young their leader really was.

"Nay, Alpha," Rina said, at her side. "They are dead to us as they have become one with the humans and can now shift without fear of the moons curse, though they have no magic to call their own."

"Why have I not known this?" she asked.

"The previous alphas have all banned such propositions as what Lion is making now and such mention has been banned from the pack." This from Zone.

Dara sighed. That was one peice of information that was critical to her. With that the odds were more even.

"Back to the matter at hand," she whispered before more loudly speaking.
Turning back to Matthias she once again spoke. "We have gotten off topic now," she sighed. "Though this new information is vital I still would much apriciate any input you have."

Matthias was just as struck by Rone's words as everyone else. He sagged against the wall briefly as he let it sink, then righted himself once he came back to reality, and listened until Dara called upon him once more. "Well, if I may be so brash, I agree with Lion. I see no reason for them not to be accepted back into our halls. Although many of them may have deviated from a purebred line, they could also be a great new addition. Werewolves no longer bound by the Moon's Curse would be great allies and friends, indeed. The loss of magic... If anything, it would aid them in adapting to the modern cultural trends. It seems..." He paused again, fearing he would lower himself in the eyes of his superiors, but managed to press on. "It seems that we have clung quite strongly to our pasts, almost to the point of stagnation. What progress have we made in any division of culture in the last fifty years? There are none that I know of, so please enlighten me if there are any."

He paused only momentarily, then pressed on. "But if we brought our cousins back into these hallowed halls, I believe there is much to be learned and gained from them, and in turn we could teach them just as much, if not more of the traditions and values we hold."

"But they are not pure!"

Dara scowled at the voice as she found, Cane had spoken against her orders. He quickly fell silent again seeing his Alpha looking straight at him and fully meeting his gaze.

Shaking her head Dara turned back to the rest as she listened apon what the council has to say as they began to speak amoungst one another.

"If we allow them back into our ranks, we face drawing even more attention to this city, from both humans and vampires," Rina was saying.

"I am in agreement with Matthias," Lion said seamingly to have taken a small bit of respect for the new wolf allowed within their walls. "They could easily teach us how better to blend into the ever changing world around us. It is not like we have focused on much but battle since ancient times."

"Allowing our lost bretheren back into this pack, may very well give us an advantage we need," Zone was saying. "With them in our pack we may very well be able to better understand the humans and be able to bring them in to help us. With that much aid, we will survive and be able to stamp out the vampires."

Rina shook her head. "But they still are not us," she said. "They have their own society set up, the same as ours. What if they will not bow to our leadership?"

"We must at least try," Rone whispered from his corner.

Dara held her hand up as curiousity grasped her. The room fell silent.
"Rone, what has brought you to talk as you have never before?" she couldn't resist asking. It was just to odd for him to speak twice in one meeting unless he was called apon.

"Don't you feel it, Alpha?" Rone whispered. "We are coming to a turning point, and rapidly. There is a tention growing and an excitment is begining to spark in this room. We are changing our own history now, though the outlook is yet unclear."

Dara paused at his words. Then gave a rueful smile. It was a controlled emotion that she showed. "Yes, I feel it, and I fear it. I say we take a vote, before more time is wasted. I say we send diplomats of me and three others to search out these wolves and try to reason with them. Any willing to come please say so now."

There was another murmer and Cane raised his hand, to Dara's curiosity. So the wolf still thought he had a chance with her. She nodded at him and he placed his hand back down.

"Any others?" she asked.

Matthias nodded, in agreement with most everything that had been said. He was very grateful to be here, and even more grateful that he had not been shunned. His confidence had been founded, and he felt a little more at ease speaking now. He raised his hand, and when he had most of the room's attention, he spoke.

"Before we go any further, though, I would like to pitch in another bit. In response to Rina: Though we may be welcoming them back in, or even just declaring an alliance, it is not necessary that they join our city. So long as we can establish a firm method of communication.

And in the same way, we can confront the issue of leadership: We should not try to dictate over them, but rather welcome them as equals, for they are still our brethren, whether they have mingled with humans or not. We should open our doors to their leaders, and convene with them, not try to place ourselves above them. That would be like asking for them to accept bondage in exchange for helping us."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 05, 2007 12:44 am

Dara nodded to Matthias's statement.
There was a breif murmur of agreement before Dara raised a hand to silence the room again.
"We should not rule them as they like us are their own pack," she sighed. "Had I but been told of them when earlier I would have already tried this. But as it is we have no more time to waste. We see what develops apon reaching their territory. Now who else shall fallow?"

There was complete silence in the room as the next to raise his hand was Lion. "It was, after all, my idea," he said with a half smile. "And I know where they are, too."

Dara smiled warmly at the older wolf then nodded. "We will leave as soon as possible. I shall need till tomarrow afternoon myself, as there are still matters that need attending to within the pack before I can leave, such as our vampire guest. What say you three?"

Lion and Cane nodded, showing that they would be ready apon that time.

Dara turned to Matthias then. "You do not have to come if you wish not. I do not know what we face there nor how long the journey will take. We may all die in the attempt, or they may not great us kindly as it seams they have forever been shunned from our pack."

"I would much rather die in an attempt to better the clan than waste time idling here," was his calm reply. "I will be ready by afternoon tomorrow. Where shall we meet?" Though he was very calm and collected on the surface, Matthias was bubbling with thought on the inside. What would happen on this journey? How would the other clan of werewolves react? Was Matthias gaining favor among the council, or was it split? Would conflict with Cane arise? Would the other clan be enough to help ensure victory or would they still come up short?

So many questions, and though Matthias was patient, he was very eager to have them answered.

((I'd recommend a time jump, but that could skew things with the other two.))
PostPosted: Tue Jun 05, 2007 1:17 am

Dara nodded to him, but before she answered his question she glanced back at the rest of the council. All the decisions were made for now and anything else was really to be talked amoungst the much smaller group.
"I will come back to your question in a moment, Matthias," she said, before adressing the room.
"In my absence, I name Zone and Rina to lead in my stead. Their combined intuition should be enough to lead the pack," she said. "You are all dismissed now, save for my small party that shall go with me tomarrow."

Dara waited patiently as the room slowly cleared. Everyone leaving slowly. Rina paused breifly before leaving.
"Dara, are you sure about this?" she asked her neice.

Dara nodded. "Yes. I need to be there to meet their leader, otherwise they may take it as an insult. I trust you will take good care of the pack in my stead."

Rina nodded and left with the others.

When the room was clear save for Dara, Cane, Matthias, and Lion; Dara turned her attention back to Matthias's question. "Tomarrow, when the sun rides high we will meet in front of this building with all our supplies. We will leave shortly after, though I am sure it won't be easy for I know that even now it is probably being spread that we are leaving. Funny how such things always spread so fast through the pack when they don't leave this room."

She mused over this thought for a moment before sighing. "This is no longer a true meeting so let us break pretenses, shall we? Lion, do you know what we will face there?"

Lion shook his head. "I only know where it is from when I was a foolish pup and would often venture close to the vampire lands. They do seem to have grown different then us though."

Dara nodded. "That is as to be expected. I want this to go over as best as possible, though, so we shall need to bring some things as peace offerings. I shall find things of value to bring along. Now, are their any other questions, feel free to ask of now. As I have said I have other duties to attend to, and wish to get the vampire out of here."

((I would tend to agree as it would help the story progress more, but your point is valid and I must allow the other two to have their time as well. Perhaps when they come back on I can talk them into a time jump...))

Matthias waited until all but the expedition crew was remaining, then turned his attention onto Dara as she explained the plan. It was all very simple and straightforward, nor was any of it disagreeable. Well, all except one...

"You still have a promise to keep with me," he said in a quiet and grim tone. He was recalling the discussion they had on the way from the graveyard after Matthias had spent all that time hunting the vampire down. "When you're through with him, he's mine. That was the agreement." He was quite serious about this. He wanted that vampire dead at his hands. Gordo's grave marker had been ruined by this savage and his accomplices, not to mention several others. He wanted his vengeance, and he wanted it very soon.

Sesheta's eyes flitted open as a slight pain came from her arm. The sun had risen so much that the sun hit her skin. She jerked her arm out of the sun's rays. Looking out, she saw that she had been asleep for a bit. The werewolf isn't back yet, she silently mused.

The amount of sleep she had gotten totally revived her. Her senses only took a little concentration to expand outside the cottage's walls. She heard the wind blowing softly, relaxed by the sound of a chime.

The vampire walked over to her coat and dug into a huge pocket. She produced some wrapping bandages. Taking them, she began to wrap her scarred arm up. By doing this, the pain wasn't as intense when she was in the sun. After making sure that all of the bandages that were also on her body to flatten her chest were in place, Sesheta took out a vile.

When the vile was open, an odd smell reached her nose. She wrinkled her nose when she smelt it, but began to dab it on. The substance in the vile was, in a sense, the smell of a werewolf. Sesheta figured that if she wanted to get out, she would have to smell less threatening.

The werewolf smell would mingle with her vampire smell in an odd way. The smells would neutral out. In a way, Sesheta would become invisible to werewolf noses. She had come across the vile when she found an elderly vampire in the mountains. The vampire took her in and gave her many thoughts and remedies. Almost like an alchemist, the vampire made viles for certain reasons. He found that when a vampire put on a werewolf scent, both scents cancelled out. The discovery didn't reach far as the vampire didn't want other vampires to learn of this for the protection on werewolves. Sesheta still doesn't understand the old vampire's liking towards werewolves, but she respects his wishes by keeping the vile safe.

Sesheta walked out of the cottage with her trenchcoat on. Trisha's coat was folded up on the table with the finished book on top. The vampire walked awkwardly around, not remembering which way to go. Way to go ditz, she scolded herself, the pain from her arm only mild. Was too tired and too distracted earlier. Sure I was being led somewhere by an enemy, but I couldn't've looked around. Though she thought this, she knew the sun was a contributing factor. With contradicting thoughts, Sesheta walked in and out of werewolf's paths in an attempt to find a way out of the village.

Dara nodded to Matthias. "You will have him when I feel all questions have been exhausted from him," she said with a breif nodd, before dropping all her masks that she hid behind within the council walls and adding, "I want that bloody b*****d to suffer and die. The mere fact that he is within these walls and not yet dead disgusts me, but I must find out what the vampire knows. I hope you do not mind, though, if I return him and he's missing a limb or two."
She shrugged at her own statement. Vampires had killed her parents and left her to lead this pack with know true experience and know one to ask questions of. It was a hard job and she hated having to be strong all the time and never being able to laugh or cry along with the rest of her pack.

"Why have you not killed the b*****d now?" Cane asked.

Dara sighed. She knew his silent streak wouldn't last long.
"Because, he was part of the attacking crew, and unlike some I do not attack and kill in anger," Dara said.

Cane jumped from his seat. "We are no longer in council, Alpha. You cannot threaten me, now as you did then." He stalked up to her to stand in front of her, trying to intimidate her by towering over her in height. It really didn't work as she was used to being shorter than most in her pack. "I would not make light of my actions, Alpha."

"I would back up right now, Cane," Dara growled at him, "or you may find yourself unable to have children... ever."

Cane shrugged as if her words didn't affect him and stalked away from her to the door. Pausing at it he glanced back. "Tomarrow when the sun rides high," he said, before leaving the room.

Lion seemed to take that as a cue for him to leave. "I will see you tomarrow, Dara. I do hope you boot that a*****e out of our group, though." With that Lion left.

Dara let out a long ragged sigh as she watched them leave and for the first time, sank into her chair at the end of the table, allowing all the tension to flow out of her. She glanced at Matthias for a moment.
"So was our little meeting at all what you expected?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 05, 2007 4:34 pm

He laughed quietly and smugly. "No, I don't mind in the slightest." He sighed comfortably, and waited until the other two had left before he said anything else.

"It was all that and more," he replied. "There is something I would have liked to change though..." He gave himself time for a dramatic pause, but not enough for Dara to ask him what it was. "I would have really liked to castrate that fool, Cane, myself. Just to see him under pressure is amusing. I'm sure a fair amount of pain would do wonders for those in need of relieving some stress..." He smirked, hoping Dara caught his drift.

Of course, the chances of someone okaying such an act would be slim, you never knew these days. If the other wolven pack could be coaxed into an alliance, Cane probably wouldn't be so helpful...

Dara smiled and allowed herself to laugh at his words. Sitting back in her chair she sighed still with an amused grin on her face. "If only I could," she sighed. "He's been hounding me for months now. Recently, I have shown him that I do have fangs and can bite and he's been even more of a pain ever since. I keep wondering whether he's still trying to gain me as a mate or whether he's trying to overtake my posistion as alpha."

She sighed. It was probably a mistake to take him along, but what was going on between her and Cane was not pack knowledge. As such it would look to odd for her not to allow him his place with her. Dara found herself royally stuck with that one.

"He was made house head a few years before I became alpha, and has been a nuisance ever since I took over," she sighed. "I don't think he agrees with me running the pack."

Shrugging Dara toyed with the thought of slowly carving up the wolf who was giving her so many headaches of late. He really would be one that she could have some fun messing with, but as of right now he was just too damned anoying for her tastes.

"Do you want to help me question our new vampire guest?" she asked as she slowly stood up.
