Youko-chan :O I was just watching that old Ozzy and Drix movie, and the name of the virus destroying Frank was the Red Death. I was like.. "HOMG. IT'S ERIK! DDDDDX" ...and... yeah. o_o;;;;; (Am I weird for quoting something from a few months back? I just noticed it now xD) Methinks thats actually a reference to "Masque of Red Death" by Poe. I'm pretty sure the outfit Erik wears at the Masquerade is an allusion to the story, too. Its an awesome story, if you haven't read it. I lurve Poe. (Then again, I think its safe to say that I just enjoy most literature from the 1800's and early 1900s)

When I was on vacation there was this shop with a little Halloween figure in a huge glass container that said "The Phantom Of The Organ." I was "PoTO!!!" My family just sighed and moved along but I stayed and took pictures. If you would like them just PM me with your email address or something. biggrin

Its an awesome story, if you haven't read it. I lurve Poe. Actually, the Red Death is an actual sickness. It was a weaker form of the Black Death, the bubonic plague that nearly obliterated Europe. Other POTO References: * The Bailey City School Kids series had a book called 'Phantoms Don't Drive Sports Cars', about a cape wearing musician who always hides his face and, yes, drives a sports car. * Goosebumps series 'Phantom of the Auditorium', about a school play loosely based off of POTO and a real ghost who was killed during the first showing of it. * The Highlander television series episode 'The Beast Below' was filmed at the Palais Garnier and involves a Quasimodo-esque deformed, hunchbacked immortal who is in love with an opera singer. * The movie George in the Jungle, if you carefully watch the shot of the outside of Ursula's apartment, you'll see a trolley car go past with a billboard for POTO on the side. * The television show Doug had an episode in which Doug gets a zit and imagines himself as the Phantom of the Opera, while the girl he admires is Christine. Later he goes to a costume party in a tuxedo and half mask. * Animaniacs the tv series had a broadway themed episode in which the main characters were called upon to replace a bunch of theatre actors in Andy Loud Webby's new production of 'Cats of Phantom Boulevard'. Amongst other things, they sang a parody of Music of the Night. * In one of the Animorphs books, a sewer is described as being, 'like something out of Phantom of the Opera'. * In the music video for the Backstreet Boys 'Everybody', they all dress up as classical monsters, with AJ Maclean as The Phantom of the Opera, surrounded by a harem of Christine's.

It's just gut reaction to shout out, "ERIK!" whenever I hear "Red Death." :3 Like how it's my gut reaction to die laughing when someone says "orange maramalade."

Anyone remember that cartoon Histeria? Well I remember two accounts of POTO refferences ^^ Once they were talking about the national anthem and they showed these guys auditioning composers to write it and one of the contestants was Erik! Another time they had a dating game skit where one of the characters had a choice between MANY historical figures and one of them was Andrew Lloyd Webber dressed as Erik ^^
Also, I swear that the organ playing ghost in the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland/world is Erik! Even when I went through the stage of my life when I was either totally or semi afraid of the Haunted Mansion (embarassingly it lasted from the age of three till the age of fourteen redface ) I looooved seeing the Erik ghost in the ballroom section ^_^

yeah, I was watching Pokemon, (no I don't like it either...just entertaining my boredom) when this guy comes up and his name is "Phantom". He has a weird techno-looking half-mask and cape, and he fights with a pokemon called "cubone" or something like that. This pokemon will never take the skull mask off of its face. If that's not some kind of phan's influence, I don't know what is.

Ooh, can't believe I didn't think of this before, but eheh.
Okay, so there are these weird Nancy Drew computer games that came out several years back. And when they first came out, my mom got me one (don't ask). It was called "Message in a Haunted Mansion" or something. And in the end you get to drop a chandelier on somebody.
Meh, fine, It's not exactly a PotO reference, but it made me think PotO now that I remember it.
And then, now that I'm started, I might add that in the movie, The Emperor's New Groove, the guy chops down a chandelier over the villan. Who is standing in the middle, so it just falls over her.
And that's about as much as my Phantom-fevered brain can think of right now.

There's a Jimmy Neutron episode (I can't believe I know this...) where there's some sort of figure named the "Phantom" stalking the amusement park. He's dressed in funeral clothes with a skull mask...I didn't catch anything about his "legend" or where he came from though.
and I'm not sure if anybody watches Blue Collar TV (or if it's been mentioned)but they had a skit about the "Phantom of the Grande Ol' Oprie" about some guy who got....a tire..thingy fused to his face, and now he lives beneath the grand ol' oprie combining opra music with country music (The phantom of course was played by Larry the Cable guy). And Christine was a spoof actress mocking some country singer with blonde hair and big breasts....(I can't remember her name) but when the Phantom asked her to sing for him he actually didn't like what he heard and ran away (which ended up just being back and forth across the stage). I nearly died when I saw it....

PhantomoftheFox * Animaniacs the tv series had a broadway themed episode in which the main characters were called upon to replace a bunch of theatre actors in Andy Loud Webby's new production of 'Cats of Phantom Boulevard'. Amongst other things, they sang a parody of Music of the Night. Aww, I so wanna see this!!! Music of the Night parody....that would so rock.... EDIT: I did some googling and managed to find the lyrics to that parody heart Yakko: Snoring, boring The play is confusing Lay back, way back Soon I will be snoozing Think I need a break 'Cause this feeling I can't shake And I'll have to go and take a nap instead. Yakko: Well, my job here is done! ALW : What? Next scene! No!!!

In an episode of Wings, several of the characters got involved with the community's play, Phantom of the Opera, but it got twisted into Phantom of the Oprah...
Really cheesy. But fun.
(I'm not sure but I'm going to assume Wings did the Phantom of the Opera thing before Mad TV did since 'Wings' is a much older show. )
