Julian's breath left him in a huff.
"No. No no no-"
He threw himself onto his knees and skidded over the ground, afraid to touch her, afraid to let her seize and allow her to hurt herself.
"Rabid, please, no, no, please-"
How could Liam just stand there, he had to help, had to help him make this stop. It wouldn't stop. There was blood. Too much, ah gods, too much. He reached out, unable to make himself grab her. She might thrash against him, break her arms, break her spine.

The thrashing continued for quite some time, and all Liam could do was stand back and watch. There was no stopping death.
When the seizing ceased, Rabid's body was stuck, rigid, in a grotesque post-mortem twist. Her lungs relaxed and she seemed to exhale briefly.

The cease of motion was worse than the seizure had been. Julian had been cursing, begging, and hadn't realized it until his voice suddenly cut off. His expression was blank. Empty. He realized he was no longer afraid to touch her. One hand reached out, touched her face as though afraid it would shatter like glass.
He was screaming in his head, but his voice simply wouldn't work.

Suddenly, Rabid's body relaxed. It regained its usual colour, and slowly became what it had attempted to become. The corpse was her now, with slightly less wild hair and smaller fangs, but still the Rabid they knew and loved.
Liam gasped and leaped forward, pressing his head to Rabid's chest.
Thud.
...
Thud.
"She's not dead."

Watching, expression still mask-like, Julian jolted. His voice came out in a croak.
"What..."

Liam listened a while longer. Every four seconds or so, Rabid's heart would give another strong thump.
"She's...mmph. Yenno Dracula? How they buried him and he got back up again? It's like that. Kinda...hybernation."
Thud.
"Except I don't think she'll wake up."

Julian touched Rabid's face again, beginning to feel sick.
"I...I don't know what that is," he said, shaking his head slightly. "I just...how can we...we need to fix this. She can't just..."
His voice, exhausted by this disjointed effort, faded away and left him with nothing left to say.

Liam's brow had furrowed in thought. He was no use to Rabid like this, he knew. Stoned and powerless.
Clearly he had to break himself of his addiction...but the only way to do that was to--
"Kill me," he said suddenly, standing.

It took a minute for Julian to comprehend. He looked slowly up at Liam, mouth dropping open.
"Wh...what."
His thoughts were spinning. He felt unwell, very unwell. Dizzy. Sapped of energy, leaving him feeling cold. His world had just been put through the runner and now his sister's boyfriend was asking him to...
I could. It'd be easy.
"No. I can't."
I can.
Looking back at Rabid, then up at Liam again, his expression was torn. His eyes locked on Liam's and truly for the first time he noticed the change. He didn't look away.
...I really could.

"I have a little of Crow's soul, right?" Liam reasoned, more to himself than Julian, "and so do you! I can only die if you die, so in killing me you'd be killing yourself, kinda, and thusly killing me!" He seemed oddly excited.
"Please. I need to be rid of this addiction."

Crow had not told him what Liam had done, but Julian suddenly put two and two together. So. That's why she'd been crying so bitterly when he'd come home the other day. His expression flickered, pupils constricting.
"Well," he said, voice still coarse. "I..."
I can. I can. I will. It's best. It'll help.
He suddenly didn't mind the idea.
"Liam...how?"

Liam thought a moment, mouth pushing over to one side. He couldn't bleed out, his heart was useless...
"Suffocate me."

Julian stood, ignoring a swell of dizziness. He was going to vomit, he realized calmly. It would have to wait. Liam needed him, after all.
"One hand over your face, the other your gills," he said, not for Liam's benefit. He was theorizing out loud. "It could work."
See? I can do this.

"Sure," Liam nodded, "I'm little enough." He approached Julian, seemingly unafraid but mentally shrieking.

The feeling of sickness, if anything, got worse.
"I'm not going to let go," Julian heard himself say. "Are you sure?"
Without waiting for Liam to answer, Julian slipped a hand around Liam's neck, fingers pinning the gills down.
It'll be quick.
...or maybe not.
