((time skipping some.))
By the time the sun was high enough to call it noon, and morning naps were near completion, Leif had already taken a short slumber, gotten up and done a quick bit of hunting. Now, there was a small fire, warm and crackling beneath a freshly skinned rabbit that the young prince turned upon a makeshift spit. No matter what people thought of him, it was clear that he was far from the pampered sort of nobility that were normally despised by the working class. He knew how to survive in the wilderness, and he knew how to take care of those he desired. Leif was both a warrior and a protector, and in all things, he knew right where he stood.
As he cooked his simple spiceless meal, he hummed a little tune to himself, something jaunty and merry that spoke greatly of his current mood. Everything was going grandly. He had a bride, he got to kill something, he would soon get to eat something yummy, and he got just enough rest to feel energized for the next turn in their journey, as soon as his darling Shae awakened.

((And Kaelin receeds into the darkness for the time being until izyy can once again join us.))
Unfortunately, and despite all his displayed grace during his waking hours, Shae was quite the heavy sleeper. No shrieking younger brother displaying a freakish tendency to push and pull and yank and tear to waken his lovely sibling had ever successfully woken the red-head, and it was therefor reasonable that nothing so weak as a sunbeam striking his lowered eyelids would bring the lad to consciousness. Usually, SHae had his own internal allarm clock that woke him up at his usual precise, early hours -- but today was not normal, as the prince did not make a habbit of staying up all hours of the night.
In fact, the more the foreign prince got to know Shae, the more he was realize that the "princess's" apparent sponteneity was born of a certain comtempt from his usual, exact schedule (which he himself often created). His sleeping shcedule, however, was something he tended to stick to, no matter how rigidly firm it was.
The prince was dreaming. It was cool and crisp, but his sun was being comfortably baked by the noontime sun and the surrounding blanket. This odd combintation of cool and warm, which was often felt in Chver springs, just may have affected his dreams. His subconscious was a muddled mess of contradictions and scheming at the moment, so it was understandable that he completely avoided that tangle of thought and feelings and fled into a half-baked dream of a warm island with ice and some sort of native rabbit.

And how Leif loved that walking contradiction that was Shae. He left the meat over the fire for now, and approached the sleeping prince, his darling princess who slept in a manner that he would call unabashedly maidenly, but others might call “sprawled out” and “dead to the world”. “M’lady,” he whispered foolishly, to try and wake him gently out of sleep, “M’lady, I’ve prepared you something to eat.” It was a simple meal, something that he was almost embarrassed to offer, but it was the best he could do in the middle of nowhere. “M’lady...”
He watched Shae’s sleeping face as he touched his arm, then leaned in close, drawn in by those lips that were so pleasantly restful, waiting for him like a fairy tale princess. “Good morning...” he whispered one more time, before he brushed his lips against the other prince’s, offering a sweet and simple good morning kiss.

((One of my kitties got stuck in a tree and I went and got her down. It was so scary 'cus she kept on almost falling. D: ))
As if that could possibly waken Shae. However, Leif had a start: if the foreign prince stopped air flow through the mouth with a kiss and then simply pinched the sleeper's nose to cut off his breath, the prince would eventually wake up (and would likely be completely understanding for the other's methods, as it had happened often enough before). As it was, the prince barely even stirred at the gentle brush of fresh lips against his own.

(( poor kitty! sad ))
Leif sat up a little and placed a hand over his mouth and began to giggle, his cheeks flushing just a bit more pink than they had been simply due to the cold. Shae was so cute. He couldn’t help it. Finding his hand, Leif took it in his own, fingers interlaced as he went to lie down at Shae’s side. Simply adorable, he mused, giving no thought to the meal he had been preparing. It was all he could do to shower the slumberer with adoration, and now all he could think of was just how -close- Shae looked like a boy in that outfit of his. It was simply too much. He couldn’t help but kiss him again, then one more time for good measure, pulling back to giggle to himself each time, as if it were the most mischievous thing he had ever done.

These actions, sweet as they were, merrited only minor murmurs of stirring from the sleeping prince as he lay in tender rest. His mind had moved on from rabbits and glanciers onto some other dream of something cozy and-- was he being kissed by a bear? Of course, in dreamland this all made perfect sense and a small smile slipped onto the dreamer's lips as warmth settled in around himself.
THe birds were being quite loud. True, it was no longer morning, but the mocking birds and other such flying enigmas had decided to hail the coming of spring all through the bright day, which the ever thoughtful God (or gods) had so graciously put forth in all its glory. This prompted a small series of wrinkles to form on the prince's face as his nose squenched up, as if somehow that action could protect him from the racket of overjoyed feathered beasts of the skies. Slowly, bright emerald hues, now dulled by sleep, opened to survey the world in all its glory.
And then slammed tight shut again as the prince turned over onto his side and huddled under the blanket so as to block the sun (and hopefully the noise of the birds) from his fogged senses.

A bear? If Leif knew that was what Shae was thinking, his feelings might be hurt. After all, he might have a little bit of stubble from not being able to shave the last day or so, but he was hardly ‘a bear’. He frowned as Shae rolled over, and he began to grow impatient, all the while bemoaning his position. On one hand, they did have to get their day started, since it wasn’t going to be good for them to stay away from civilization for too long, especially with that boy who was possibly a scout for a group of bandits of any number. On the other hand, there was the fact that he didn’t know how Shae would react to him waking him up. He could be quite ferocious, and perhaps never forgive him. It was a lose lose situation, he realized, and he didn’t know which choice to simply go with. That was a rare thing with him, who made it clear that he only saw things as black and white, with no shades of gray in between.
He had to wake Shae up, but how to do it? The old cold water on the face? He had done it many a time to soldiers in his unit, but never to a lady. He assumed that it would be quite the faux pas if he did it. But what if... it was an -accident-? “Ah, that could work,” he murmured to himself, then went to find a bowl of water he had recently found at the river. Now, he was not a clumsy man, and it took him a moment of rehearsing in his head before he felt that he could do it.
Step one, step two, step three.... no. He turned around. Leif simply couldn’t throw water on that angelic face, but.. He had to! Step one, step two, step three.... he stopped again. What was he thinking? How cruel he was to even -consider- doing such a thing! He turned once more, but a little too quickly this time, to the point where he lost his footing and went tumbling face down on top of Shae, the bowl following to land squarely upon the blonde prince’s head to splash water upon them both. This really, really wasn’t the way things were supposed to work out.

((xD;;; He's only a bear because Leif's warm... and, you know, big.)) One (quite large) sprawled man up top Shae coupled with a splashing of what was most deffinately not warm water and Shae was fully awake, green orbs snapping open to find himself -- and his husband-to-be (for now, at least) -- drenched through and through. In fact, Leif had a bowl, of all things, resting on his wet-darkened blond hair.
And he was on top of Shae.
That really was not something the prince could afford. What if Leif noticed his body was harder in places where a woman should be soft ((his chest))? He certainly had no woman's figure, even as skinny as he was. Pale face flushing brightly, he did his best to slip out from under the older male, although he wasn't all that successful due to the other's weight.
There was a second misfortune to be yet fully thought out -- Shae was wet. Drenched. It wasn't just the matter that his oh so very long hair took much too long to dry, it was that his clothes were wet. And that would make them cold. And they were the only boy's clothes he currently had on hand. And Leif had said that the town wasn't particularly safe for "ladies."
Oh dear.
After several moments of silence, by which time Shae thought his anger (or perhaps his profound disaproval) had subsided enough for him to be able to talk sensibly, he remarked, "You're an idiot, you know that?"(( brothers, oh my! O:))

As Leif fell upon Shae’s chest, he couldn’t help but feel the other prince’s physique, something that was peculiar to him, but if he was beginning to suspect something, he didn’t voice his accusations. He was still a bit flabbergasted at the situation at hand, and as soon as he was able, he scrambled up to make room for Shae to move - as he obviously wanted to.
An idiot? That one Leif did hear - and he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. “An.. Idiot?” he repeated in a baffled sort of tone. No one had ever called him that before, and certainly not another person of noble standing. Shae must really be mad at him. His lips fell into a full fledged pout, and he stood up, turning away from the other damp prince. “I’m sorry.” He mumbled, then ran a hand through his wet hair to pull it away from his face.
“You can wear my cloak while your clothes dry. I made you something to eat.” His speech and movements were both very mechanical now as he walked over to the fire and pulled the intended meal off of it, which was now rather black and slightly indistinguishable from any other burnt lump of meat. “Oh, its burnt. I’ll... get you another one.” Obviously, he was a little wounded from the name calling, but it made him more vacant and confused than truly upset.

Shae remained where he was for a moment, a slow frown curling onto his lips, before he finally stood up. "I just meant... nevermind," he mumbled slowly, feeling too vexed to explain himself fully. He shivered slightly, the cool mountain hair minglig with the his wet clothing to make a mix of deffinate shivers. He wasn't sure why the other seemed so... stunned. "Idiot" was a term used regularly by siblings - even the royal children of Chver - and Shae couldn't understand how it could affect the other so adversly. When Calypso did something stupid, he was an idiot. Shae himself was rarely on the receiving end of this description, but even he had received such words.
Lips pursed slightly, he pulled his wet hair over one shoulder and began to slowly squeeze the water out, turning away from the blonde prince as he did so.
"...This likely won't dry for a while," he said at last, gesturing to his clothing. "And I can't go wearing only a cloak... nor can I go in girl's clothing, as you yourself said it is not safe..." he murmured slowly, both adressing Leif and thinking aloud at the same time.

What had been a beautiful night was rapidly turning into a terrible day. Shae hated him (or at least that was how Leif felt at the moment), he’d burnt their meal and the pair of them were wet, Shae moreso than he, At least the sun was shining bright, and there was an excellent view - except for how Leif currently wanted to simply hurl himself off the edge of the cliff and be done with it. “It will be fine,” he stated with bold resolution, and stepped back over to Shae’s side, wiping his finger across the redhead’s face to clear away a few freckles of water.
He then proceeded to remove his own shirt, peeling the damp garment from his flesh to reveal a chest that was clearly masculine, defined yet smooth, and occasionally marred by a few scars. He didn’t seem to think twice about exposing his skin to a “lady” though, as he took the shirt and wrung it out, before picking up a pair of thin sticks from a bundle he had laid beside the fire. “It will dry faster than you think,” he explained, pulling the burnt meat away from where it rested and offering it, stave and all to his beloved. “I’ll watch them better than I did that. So go change and eat what you can salvage there. You can wear a dress again for now, I’ll protect you if anyone pops out of the woodwork to do you harm.”

Shae was more that slightly irked when the other walked over to him and, cool-as-can-be, wiped several droplets of excess moisture from his cheek just as if Shae somehow were suddenly not to be angry with him. He readied a retort on his tongue... but then misplaced it as the other stripped himself of his shirt. Shae didn't lean particularly lean on either side of sexuality - in fact, he hardly thought about it at all and viewed gender issues with indifference - but the other's torso really was eye-catching. How could it possibly not be?
But he suddenly remembered himself and snapped his eyes away, a small flush on his pale cheeks, before he strode over to his saddle bags. "I'm... going to change, then. Do you have a towel or something so I may dry myself?"

“A towel?” Surely Leif had many things to travel with, but a towel just wasn’t one of those necessities that he considered. “Ah, Hmn.” He was readily setting his shirt up to dry near the fire while he spoke, or rather stared silently for several moments before he came up with an answer. “I don’t, but most of the blanket is still dry, if you’d like to use that. Forgive me, M’lady.” He was just on a bad losing streak now, and although Shae had tried to reassure him that he wasn’t thought of as a complete simpleton, he couldn’t help but think that he was somehow failing as a proper guardian and husband.

He must have passed out or something because the last thing he remembered was clinging to his steady steed, talking to a pair of... whatever they were. One was that blond buffoon - the Golden Wolf or whatever - who had conquered his people. The other, the redhead who looked more like a girl than the masculine clothes he was wearing should have suggested, was unknown to him, but was traveling with the prince of Solveig, and was likely to be in league with him -- which, as far as Kaelin was concerned, made him an enemy.
However, now the sun was shining down brightly, nearly blinding the unfortunate teen as his golden eyes fluttered open. Kaelin winced slightly, sitting up after several moments of deliberation as to whether or not he should pretend to still sleep, the entirety of his muscles aching from having fallen asleep on his feet before falling to the ground (or at least that was what he supposed he must have done - but, then again, it might just have been the rather large rocks beneath him, which were painful enough on their own). After another pause, he stood up slowly, wincing at every aching bruise.
He looked around, trying to figure out just what exactly was going on. The blond and the redhead seemed to have had some sort of fight while he slept, for they didn't look at all comfortable together - the very opposite of the night before, when they had seemed on the verge of some huge love scene or something equally distasteful (Kaelin, as of yet, still had no head for romance of any kind). Whatever it was, Kaelin hoped he had caused it because it just might break the pair up and thus, he reasoned, weaken the forces apposing himself.

Shae nodded slowly, biting his tongue slightly as he did to keep himself from mouthing yet another retort. Leif seemed to be down on himself enough as it was and no doubt that yet more scathing remarks would do no good, but the prince simply couldn't help but want to rave about the other's bumbling stupidity. He made his way over to his horse and selected a nice warm dress and took it out before bending over to retrieve the mostly dry blanket. It was then that he spotted Kaelin, who had apparently awoken.
The teen straigtened up then, forcing a small smile onto his lips despite the circumstances, and called, "Good morn -- or really, I suppose, Good afternoon!" His hair was dripping quite uncomfortably onto his skin, causing prickles of goose bumps to appear. Shae grimaced slightly and then began to head off away from the pair. "I'm... going to change. So you two stay put and don't look," he called as he turned away from them.
