Hymn of the Silent

PostPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2007 3:03 pm

Kaosu was stunned, to say the least. It looked as if the shinigami sitting across from him had seen a hundred battles and barely pulled out of each confrontation. Kaosu stayed silent as he just stared at the scars.

Finally, he shook his head. "Give me a few more weeks of the battering I've gone through and I'll be about there." Kaosu pulled up his hakuda to his knee, displaying a long, thick scar that ran up from the front of his ankle to his kneecap. Then, he pulled both his sleeves up and placed his arms together parallel, showing two lateral scars that matched the motion of someone defending slashes.

Kaosu put all his clothes back to normal and nodded. "Looks like we've both had our moments; and probably will have many more to come. Y'know...speaking of Soul Society patrols...I haven't seen any around here...do you think they're so lazy they wouldn't even come out here?"

Kaosu pushed that question aside and picked up the book again, flipping to his bookmarked page. "Oi, Ugu. I think this shinigami was about a year older than you when you went through the academy...Genkou Watanari. Does that name mean anything to you? Guessing the way you strode into my...'place', you must have heard me screaming." Kaosu blushed a deep red. It was the first time anyone had heard him lose control like that. I'm working on it. Kaosu noted. I'm learning to control it.

Kaosu turned the book and held up the last five pages to Ugu. "Take a quick look, at least. The name is ringing a bell to me and I can't figure out who it is. It must have been a famous person to deserve the last five pages in the 'Feared' section."

"Pfha. Of course there's patrols around here. Walking over to this lil' bit of the forest I happened upon a small squad taking out a hollow. They're here, Kaosu, so don't worry. We're not that far from Soul Society, anyway." Ugu let out a hearty laugh as he shifted his clothing back into place. The scars were soon hidden once more and the shinigami looked more 'bookish' once more.

"Genkou Watanari?" The man asked aloud, more so to himself than anything. "Sounds familiar. Hmm.." He took the book from Kaosu and flipped through the last few pages. "Interesting Shikai. Didn't know the b*****d had that kind of zanpakutou.." His lime eyes went through the pages, memorizing every inch of the paper. Smiling as he finished the last page of the book he passed the book back to Kaosu.

"Methinks you should avoid seeking him, Kaosu. Or contacting him. You wouldn't really benefit from him being your teacher, nor would he benefit you as an ally. Definitely not as an enemy, too." Still smiling Ugu stood up. He shifted his massive form to tower over Kaosu from his height of 7'1. "Why do you want to seek out such a person, Kaosu?"

Kaosu cocked one eyebrow, more out of surprise than confusion. "Why would it be a bad idea to talk to this man?" Kaosu stood up also, standing right next to Ugu's overpowering bulk. "What do you know of this man that isn't in this book? And don't play that 'I don't know' crap with me. I know this book has been edited. The last few pages have been ripped out."

Kaosu put his hips on his shoulders as he continued, "Tell me, Ugu. Who is Genkou?"

"... ... ..." The man was silent for a minute as he looked down at the younger shinigami. After some contemplation Ugu finally spoke, "If you can beat me in combat I'll tell you, Kaosu." With that comment he brought his right hand to his zanpakutou and unsheathed it from its hold. Egeus emanated a tinge of reiatsu as it fled its sheath to enter the vibrant spring-like air of the clearing.

Ugu's eyes fixed on the younger shinigami. 'There'd be no point in letting him go to Genkou if he couldn't even stand up after being hit by my reiatsu. Simply no point.. It'd be like sending a lame duckling into a nest of rabid lions. There isn't a better way to commit suicide.' "Are you willing to do that, Kaosu-san?" Egeus shone in the spring's daylight. Its sharp edge radiated with a thunderous aura that screamed for blood. It was a strange zanpakutou. It healed, yet it screamed for blood.

Kaosu still continued to stare, bewildered, at Ugu. This is not the Ugu I have seen. It's almost as if...he's worried about me. Hmph. Kaosu also drew his zanpaku-to, the name yet to be known. "Well, if that's how it's gonna be, then I guess I might as well get started."

Kaosu raised his zanpaku-to and swung right at Ugu's arm. A thought occured, but didn't deter him. Wait, this is the man who held back about seven students without taking so much as a scratch. I know I've grown stronger...but I have a snowball's chance in hell right now. But I can't back down now. No, I must discover who he is. Especially now that Ugu's hiding him.

The giant took a step back, dodging Kaosu's strike entirely. His lime eyes stared down at the young shinigami. "You have improved, Kaosu," he said as he began to focus his reiatsu into his left hand. Egeus, Ugu's zanpakutou, twisted itself in the shingami's right hand to point toward the bushed to Ugu's right.

With his left hand the shinigami began to focus his reiatsu into a weapon. After a moment of concentration an ethereal-looking hammer was created. Its long handle, somewhere between the length of four to five feet, possessed a large demonic hammer bit on its highest tip. With his newly created warhammer he attacked Kaosu.

The savage looking hammer swung from above down toward Kaosu's shoulders. Its dragon-reminiscent engravings shone in the clearing's bright sunlight as it arrowed down upon the shoulders of the younger shinigami.

"Thanks." Kaosu noted as he spun, neutralizing his momentum. He looked up, and now saw Ugu hefting a large hammer. Wasn't he just wielding his zanpaku-to? A longsword? What the hell is that? Kaosu chose not to follow the questions as he saw the hammer coming towards him.

Kaosu quickly shoved his own zanpaku-to up to meet the downward strike. He could only hope it would deterr the blow.

The hammer in his left hand still shifted with its odd radiance. In his right hand Egeus thrummed with a minute amount of reiatsu. Between the two weapons their wielder, Ugu, stared down at the younger shinigami. "Kaosu. Forget about Genkou, alright?" he asked of the student in a very worried voice. "Okay?"

Kaosu fell onto the ground, the impact not only broke through the resist he had made, but it connected his shoulder not only with the hammer but the backside of his own zanpaku-to. He definetly felt something crack in his left shoulder.

The pain was paralyzing as he kneeled there, tears welling up in his face both from pain and embarrassment. He finally stood up and looked straight at Ugu with pain in his eyes. "No." Kaosu gripped his zanpaku-to with his only available hand; his right. "No, I cannot forget. I won't forget." Kaosu started sobbing uncontrollably as he continued. "I...REFUSE TO FORGET!" Kaosu stood there silently, trying to get ahold of his emotions again.

Finally, he wobbled over to Ugu and looked into his eyes, of course having to stare a ways upwards. Kaosu's chest bumped into Ugu's and Kaosu almost fell over. To regain his balance, Kaosu dropped his zanpaku-to onto the earth and grabbed Ugu's shihakusho. When he regained his balance, he didn't let up his grip and said softly straight to Ugu's face, "Haven't you ever felt that feeling of not knowing something that lay right in front of your face? This is how I feel now. It's how I feel most of the time, but this just doesn't feel right. I know I should know this man."

Kaosu let go of the Ugu's robes and fell to the ground; onto his knees. "I feel...I feel like I've known this person. Something about him rings bells in my head. Bells that won't go away. Why do you think I'm still reading the stupid book?" Kaosu punched his fist into the ground as he continued. "I'M TIRED OF NOT KNOWING!"

Kaosu stopped for a minute, and again gripped his zanpaku-to. "That is why..." Kaosu wobbled to his feet and continued wobbling as he tried to stand. "That is why I won't give up." Kaosu, his body barely sustaining conciousness, tried to swing at Ugu. It was a whole-hearted attempt, but Kaosu had reached his limit. His hand grew limp and dropped the zanpaku-to again. He bypassed his knees as he slammed into the ground; straight onto his back.

Ugu frowned as he listened and watched the younger shinigami rant about 'needing to know'. He sighed as he watched the teenager fall. The large shinigami then slid his zanpakutou into the scabbard on his left hip and went onto his knees.

He towered over the downed shinigami and placed his now free right hand on the student's stomach. "Great whales, white and gray, spurting water of the living from holes of mammals, healing the scalding words of the wise: Healing #1: First Lesson Of Healing." A green energy poured from his hand to flow into the stomach of the unconscious idiot. It was a healing technique. It would probably make Kaosu able enough to stand up again.

And when Kaosu stood up again Ugu would just have to knock him back down. The idiot wanted to see Genkou. Of all people to wish to see Genkou was one you wanted to meet if you had a death wish. If Kaosu truly wished to see him that badly, though... 'I can't do anything to stop this bugger. If I allow him to run off on his own he will find Genkou eventually. When he does, though.. It'd only mean his death.' Zenmaru stood up and placed his right hand on the staff piece of his mighty reiatsu warhammer.

"Rise, Kaosu," the man ordered. 'I guess I'll either have to beat this fact into his skull or make him stronger. Hopefully the former, since making people stronger takes more effort. Hopefully.'

Kaosu did get back onto his feet, and he silently retrieved his zanpaku-to. He sheathed it at it's respective place at his hip and looked right back at Ugu. "Just know this; I will know eventually. I don't care if I have to look over every square inch of the entire flipping Soul Society. I don't even care if I have to find a way to the living world." Kaosu stood up on the stump, coming flush with Ugu's tremendous height.

Kaosu looked fiercely into Ugu's eyes, making remembrance of an old promise. "I don't care how long it takes, Ugu. I will beat you. I will get stronger and beat you. If that's what it takes to get information; then it's what I will do."

Kaosu cut his gaze away and stared out into the forest. "But, I still don't understand. Why hide him? What is there to hide? What is so horrible that everyone will not speak of him?" It was blatantly obvious that Kaosu was coyishly probing for information.

".. You are stupid, Kaosu," Ugu said, rather bluntly, as he looked upon the teenager. "You've read his 'resume' in that book. There was more than a few paragraphs about him. You and Soul Society know he is powerful. He's also in the 'Feared' section, and as you said already: he is feared." A frown appeared on his lips as he continued," He is powerful and he is feared. You fill in the dots, Kaosu. People don't want to talk about him for a very good reason."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2007 12:14 pm

"But being strong and feared is no reason to banish him and try to erase him entirely. I know he might have done something that caused the banishment, but the question I want answered is what. I also know that it takes a hell of a lot to get kicked out of the Soul Society. I want to know what he did."

Kaosu rolled that over in his head. I hope. Kaosu mused a little on the matter. But still, it's something that is bothering Ugu. What the hell could make Ugu so disturbed? To want to fight me? Wait...

Kaosu looked at Ugu 'knowingly' and asked, "Could it be? Did you truly want me to fight because this Genkou is strong? I'm not smart, but I'm not that stupid. You're worried this Genkou would be too much for me, don't you?" Kaosu smiled. It does make sense... "Now, I'm interested. Do you know what this man is truly capable of? Do you...know Genkou Watanari?"

Kaosu looked upwards, into the sky and suddenly cursed; loudly. He hopped over the stump and spun around, bowing to Ugu. "Um, sorry. Gotta go." I want to know, but I also know Ugu will only tell me in riddles.

Kaosu ran out of the opening, headed towards the Aozora mountains. Don't worry Ugu. I'll see you eventually. When I'm strong enough.
