"No, get through the hole!" Baolin shouted. "The best thing for you to do right now is secure wherever it is we're going. We don't want to jump into an ambush, and I'll have her out soon."

He turned his attention back to Tsuzuki and sighed, struggling to clear his mind, recalling his early teachings. He ran his fingers over the rock, searching for the imperfection that would... ah! There.

He brought his hand down hard on the rock, impersonating earthbending without actually harming it... and hurt his hand a great deal. But the rock had loosened somewhat. Eagerly, he struck it again and again, bruising and slicing at his hand but thrilled to see his cheap not-quite-bending was having an effect.

Tsuzuki smiled when she felt it loosen enough for her to bend and said to Baolin, "Alright, move so you don't get hurt."

She then created a ball of fire with her hand, coursing more and more energy into it, until it exploded the rock around her. She grasped it and immediately let it go as she realized that it was burned slightly. Tsuzuki then pressed her hand against the rock constricting her foot and heated it a great deal, making it weaker. After she could feel it melting inside, she punched the rock and it cracked, giving her enough room to pull her foot out.

She then nodded towards Baolin, believing that the hole was the best thing to do at the moment even if both ways weren't very safe. As if she was a rabbit hiding from a hunter, she ran and dove into the hole, ignoring the pain in her hand and hoping that Baolin and Dav would follow.

Baolin hurried after her, sharing an equal hope that the waterbender that had led them here would eventually lead them out. But there was no time to check. As the saying went, look not to your friend's back when it is your front in danger.

Lee walked into the great city of Ba Sing Se twirling three stones of equal size in the air. He wandered around the city looking for another bender to help him train. And every now and again Lee would stop by the shop to take a look at what they were selling but he only bought a loaf of bread to eat. Which he consumed in fifteen minutes.

Lee hadn't seen a bender anywhere the whole time he was in the city so he took the next rail car out and went back to his quiet desert village.
While he was in the rail car he continued to twirl the stones around his right hand. There were quiet a few people in the car but he knew no one cared that he was a bender because the citizens of Ba Sing Se were surrounded by benders everyday. So it didn't matter if he was practicing his control over earth.

As the sun began to set, Tsuchi felt it was time to find some lodging. He gave Enoki a pat on the shoulder, and picked up his things.

"Keep practicing," Tsuchi said with a smile as he tied his chin strap. "It's time I found a place to rest. I suggest you do the same too."

He slipped his arms through his pack and slung his wrapped tiger hook swords over his left shoulder. Waving goodbye, he headed towards the business district; he knew of restaurants that provided room and board above their business. He had passed by several that had open vacancies earlier when he entered the city; hopefully, they were still open.

As he entered the restaurant sector of the business district, the smell of steamed buns and roasted pig filled the air. He walked up the small restaurant where he had purchased his sio pao from earlier and entered. The door triggered the bell over it to ring twice; letting the staff know there was someone to attend to. Tsuchi walked up to the counter and was greeted by the same girl from earlier.

"Back for dinner?" she jokingly said smiling. "What can I get for you?"

"A room would be nice," he replied smiling. "And if you're hiring, I wouldn't mind working for the room either."

"We do have a couple of vacant rooms and we are looking for an extra hand around here," she said stretching a blank scroll over the counter.

Tsuchi gave her his name to archive in the scroll; receiving a key in the end. She led him to the door just behind the counter let him in.

"Second floor, room 3," she said from behind. "We can discuss employment tomorrow, enjoy!"

Tsuchi nodded and headed towards the third door down the hall. He unlocked the door and walked in. The laterns and candles inside were not lit and sunlight was almost gone.

"No use walking around in a dark room," he said lighting a match.

He lit the two tall lanterns nearest the door first; proceding to light the rest of the room. He took a look around. It was nice. No bed; however, he'd brought what he needed.

As Vade entered the city he was instantly overwhelmed by what he saw.
He had never seen so many people before in his life! Especially not condensed into this one place. As he walked around he could feel that he was drawing prolonged stares.
Scared and confused he wandered through the streets trying to collect his thoughts. It earked him that people were still staring at him. "They must know I'm not from around here" he thought as he tightened his grip on his bag. His father had told him of the crime and the lack of morals in big cities. "How am I ever going to find someone to teach me here!?"
His mind was racing and he was finding it harder and harder to think with the crowded streets bustling around him. He made his way to a restaurant ordered some tea and took a seat at an empty table in the corner.
As he leaned forward to sip his tea he was shocked at what he saw.
In the reflection of the cup he saw the ugly wound running down the side of his face. This was the first time since the accident that he had been able to see his reflection. It became obvious to him why people were staring.

Vade took advantage of the quietness of the restaurant to formulate a plan of action.

Vade got up from the table and made his way over to the bar and leaned on it.
"Excuse me sir, I'm new to the area and I was wondering if you could help. I am in need of some instruction in the way of earth-bending. Could you tell me where I could find a teacher?"

"Well, I'm not really sure how much help I could be. My first suggestion would be you start by getting that thing on your face looked at, its libel to get infected if your not careful. As far as earth-bending is concerned, the only guy I know personally is old Master Lin, down the street, but don't bother ask'n him. Not if you value the rest of your face. My advise to you, young bender, is to just keep your ey... eyes open, and speak up a bit. There are plenty of benders around, but watch yourself, the city can be a dangerous place for a kid like you. That'll be 20 copper for the tea."

Vade handed the man the copper, and gave him a little extra for his help. He thanked the man an left.
He thought to himself as he bought a hat from a vender down the street. "Ive never had to buy tea... I wonder if he ripped me off..."
He pulled the hat low over his face and continued on down the street.

Vade walked along and kept his eyes open, but he didn't see anyone who he could defiantly say was a bender. That was until he came upon an interestingly shaped building. It was not like the others by any respect. The corners Sloped inwards, but the top was wider then the bottom. The outer walls were smooth, and the roof was solid rock, unlike the thatching on the other roofs. there were no windows, but it seemed there were skylights and a chimney.
"This has to be Master Lin's place, its the only relatively nice place in this district..."
There didn't seem to be a door... only a stone slab in the shape off one.
"The bartender was right, this guy looks like he doesn't want to be bothered... but if I'm gonna make a name for myself, I can't let anything stand in my way."
Vade approached the door and did not see a knob. No bell to ring, no knocker, no nothing... what would he do. He tried knocking on the door, but he doubted that anyone could hear it. He thought for a second, and backed away a few feet. Perhaps this is the time to try out his new trick.

Vade assumed an elongated riding stance(tae kwon do, its the only martial art I know out of character). His hips allined with his heels and his shoulders. He closed his eyes and held his hands open, palms-down. He focused inward. He tried to block out the loud and confusing world around him. It didn't matter.
"I must look like an idiot..." He thought to himself.
His knees burned... his body strained to hold this pose...
After a half hour of standing the noise of the crowd seemed to fade away, as if someone turned the volume down on the world. He could hear nothing but his heart beat. He couldn't feel the pain in his knees, or his shoulders, or even his scabbing face. He could feel the dull breeze of the people walking around him. The vibrations of their foot steps, and the pulse of his heart pumping the blood through his veins. The pulse through his arms, and his legs to his hands and feet.
He snapped back to reality, as if struck by lighting. His eyes opened onece more, this time they were both dark brown and the red around his cornea was a blank white. Front foot pivoted to face to door and He turned his head with is in perfect unison, he was now in a modified elongated back-stance(Also tae kwon do). He stomped with his lead foot, shifing into a strong front-stance (also tae kwon do) and launched a basketball-sized rock from the ground and stuck it with both palms.
The rock bulleted straight for the center of the door with all the force of a cannon ball... it just now occored to him..."I hope I didn't launch it too hard.."
The door slid down melding into the ground just as the ball was to collide with it.
A tall muscular, man, bald with a long white beard was standing behind it casually. He instantly shifted into a horse stance and stopped the bolder in mid-air, sending it back at him, with three times the force that Vade had used.
This all happened within the blink of an eye.

Vade could feel the foot-steps behind him, and even if he did move, he wasn't sure if he could do it in time. He stared right into the ball and braced himself for impact. He threw his arms in front and focused all his attention on the ball. Vade took the impact and remained in stance, being pushed back several feet. His tracks were dug inches into the ground, the people around him were still reacting to the initial attack and were pushed to the wayside as he slid by. The rock fell to the ground with a thud. His eyes returned to their previous state.

"Why are you attacking my door!" The old man bellowed.
"You have no place disturbing my meditation, crawl back into whatever worthless hole you crawled out of!" He turned back into the shadow with the slab sliding back into place slowly.
"Wait!" Vade sprang forward, shaking his head as all the sounds and sights of reality came flooding his senses."
"Truly you must be a master! Could I ask of you to spare some time for a lesson?"
The door stopped and Vade could only make out a pair of eyes green, softer then before, and he heard the Masters' response, "And what would you like me to teach you, my young bender? You have technique, and you have heart, but you have not yet melded these together. There are no diagrams or rules for you to memorize here. You know how to move the earth, but the skills of a great bender cannot be taught, to become a master you need hard work. You must focus your mind, body, and spirit, to truly be one with your element. It should not take a half hour to move a simple rock. Go now, stop wasting my time, I have nothing to teach you here."
The slab slammed shut, the vibrations of which sent many to the ground. Vade quickly retrieved his hat, pulled it down to shadow his face, and hurried down the street. People around him were still very confused as to what had just happened, staggering up to their feet.

Tsuzuki lead the way down the tunnel, feeling as if it were much easier going down that it had been coming up. Eventually, she reached the Avatar room and took one last look around as the sphere above released a black smoke. She sighed with releaf as she saw that nothing was ruined. She then turned and headed quickly out the door, leaving it open for Baolin and, if he was still free of the earthbenders, Dav.

She held up a candle of her firebending as she ran down the corridor, lighting all of the tourches on the way so that Baolin and Dav could see where they were going. As she reached the outside, she realized that a team of earthbenders had not yet made it to the Avatar room. She hid behind a nearby house, letting Baolin see her, and sat down to catch her breath. She mumbled to Baolin, hoping that he was in ear shot, "I'm sorry about what happened. I should've never followed that waterbender. It's my fault that you were in danger."

As the sun peered through the windows, Tsuchi was warming up. Despite the past weeks of travel, he maintained his training regiment. He spaced his legs shoulder at shoulder width. Shifting his weight to his right leg, he reached towards his left foot. Leaning forward he grabbed it with his left hand. He kept the position for five steady breaths. Three. . . four. . . five . . . He thought to himself.

Letting go, he repeated the same procedure to his right leg. After repeating the process five times on each leg, he stood up and began his hip rotations. From there he would procede to shoulder and wrist rotations, and on to his other warm ups.

He always felt it critical to maintain flexibility. There was a saying his sifu recited during his first year at the kwoon: in order to achive perfect posture, one must be flexible.

Baolin chuckled, wanting more to cough from the smoke.

"Nah," he assured her. "This is a lot more exciting than just hanging around my place, right?"

That was one good thing about being a politician. Lying came as easily to him as breathing.
