I was watching this newish movie called the Butterfly Effect where this guy has odd black out moments throughout his life and then later he realises that if he reads his journals at these points (he keeps a journal of everything because of the blackouts) then he can go back in time to that point. He doesn't actually travel back, he just IS himself from back then, if you get what I mean.
He can change things and it changes everything in his life but then he gets stuck with the memories both of the unchanged timeline and the new one. And as he keeps changing things, his brain begins to explode cos of all the extra memories.
Not to mention he keeps making very bad choices and messing up people's lives.
It's nearly a very good movie.
I like the changing things and ending up with split realities. Though I'm still not sure of how you solve the whole 'I go back in time and change something that stops me from going back in time so that means I don't go back so I don't change it so I can go back so I do change it...' etc etc age old paradox thing.
That's another thing - in Doctor Who they keep having 'paradoxes' that aren't actualy proper paradoxes! It annoys me.

Also, I figure that if you travel back in time then you can do whatever you like because it won't do anything that hasn't already happened. From the 'present' perspective you'll have already been there.

I'd visit the past and not change anything, I'd be too scared of what the outcome would be. That, and I think we all saw what happened when Rose went back in time and saved her father from dying. That was not pretty.

What about the whole..if you go back and do anything, it doesn't really matter because what you say or do is already affecting the past..which changes the future..so what you do or say is meant to have been done or said? And what about going back and telling someone more then they're supposeo to know..premonitions? I don't really know where I'm going with this..so I should probably stop here..

No matter what you do, the same (or similar) things happen to the world. If you kill Hitler, some other dude with the same ideals etc will do what he did.

Figured it was about time for a new question...
Actually I'm completely useless at keeping track of the weeks as they pass. But maybe my guesses will average out over time.

Marvin.
Because not only does he naturally kick a**, as far as I know, he's the only robot on that list who has appeared in a work of interactive fiction.

A tough choice. K9 is great, I love the little fella, but in the end Marvin just ends up demoralizing the floor with him.

Crumpet Lord Hairy Priest Taking the question literally... GrimlockIs grimlock the T-rex one? Yes. (Sorry for the late reply... I haven't been on gaia for a bit since my brother came in to town) That Ron Goulart book looks interesting. Is it out of print? Never heard of the author before.

Hairy Priest That Ron Goulart book looks interesting. Is it out of print? Never heard of the author before. Seek and ye shall find. Amazon.com is filled with Goulart goodness. I think he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Lots of people like to bash his novels, but I feel it is lack of understanding that does it. He writes REALLY strange. He combines Hitchcock-style mystery with robots, awful futures, science fiction, comic book, slash, and sometimes old school pin-up. Yet, he is the only author to get the Mystery Writers of America Award for his science fiction novel After Things Fell Apart. And that is also a book you should check out. 3nodding
