::sorry you had to wait::
"I'm coming" Ruby called from the kitchen, she took her drink and sat dwon at the end fo the table, so she wouldn't elbow anyone (she's left-handed). "Sorry you had to wait on me," she apologized. Ruby relaxed in her chair a moment and waited for someone to pray.

Jason looked around the table expectrantly. He wasn't really 'good' at speaking or praying (if that's possible). He often stuttered while doing so and repeated himself. He was also over-redundant with "Lord." ....

"Alright, I guess I'll say grace." Azalia volunteered. She bowed her head closed her eyes, and said, "Lord, we thank you so much for this food, and for this building, which you have graciously given to us as a place of refuge. May you help us to spread your truth to as many people as possible, and more. Help us to remember to love all our neighbors, even those who want to kill us. We ask this in your precious name, Amen."
((Did I do okay? I don't usually handle grace.))

Jessica took off running as soon as she saw the blood. Her friend Cassie, never one to hide her faith even in the most extreme circumstances, had carried that Bible proudly past the soldier, who shot her immediately.
What is wrong with her? she thought furiously, sprinting through the streets without a care as to where she was going. Millions of questions poured through her mind, but one stood out loud and clear: Why would somebody die for religion? She understood rebellion perfectly; Jessica never conformed. In fact, the government's insistance on outlawing religion was what drove her to ask questions; it was how she met Cassie in the first place. But to go so far as to die for it?
After making sure Cassie was dead, the soldier had started chasing her, but years of track allowed her to easily evade him. Yet she still sprinted through town, even when rain started pouring down in sheets, even when the stitch in her side and every muscle in her body screamed for her to stop.
She finally slowed when she saw a large, run-down building. Cassie had mentioned this place. Christian teens gathered here. Jessica didn't know what they gathered for, but she hoped they were here now. She wanted answers.
She knew she must have looked awful: Her heavy black pants weighed her down and the rain and tears had sent dark makeup pouring down her cheeks. She wondered if these Christians would even give her the time of day. Still, she pounded on the door furiously, then collapsed into sobs as she awaited a response.
((Dramatic enough for you? I promise I won't always write like this. sweatdrop ))

Azalia's eyes widened and she froze at the pounding on the door. She stood immediately. Had the soldiers found them at last, or was the pounding someone looking for help? "Stay here." She commanded everyone in a serious, yet strangely calm and quiet voice. "If I don't yell 'the coast is clear', I want you all to hide, immediately. Sneak through the tunnels to other buildings if you can. Use the ones we added, the military will know all about the ones that were already here, and might be waiting there at the other end." She walked out of the dining room, and went to the door where she had heard the pounding. She checked the monitor, and saw a girl crying at the door. She scanned the scene for soldiers in case it was a trap, but didn't see any. She decided to take a chance. She opened the door. "Come in, quickly," She said hurridly to the girl, motioning her inside.

Mia ran to see what was going on. She had no idea why, but she didn't feel any danger. When she saw how wet Jessica was, she ran up to her room and grabbed a blanket. She ran back downstairs and, breathless, handed Azalia the blanket, too shy to look at Jessica.

"I told you to stay put," Azalia whispered to Mia, taking the blanket. Still, she was grateful that Mia had brought it. This girl on the doorstep looked mighty cold and wet from the rain.

[[Oh, my. That's quite the turn of events. I didn't even get to eat my spaghetti, no matter how mediocre it may be... and that was a fine blessing, Loser. Thank you.]]
During the commotion, Roxy had hidden in the crawlspace under the stairs. She listened for Azalia's voice telling her all was clear, but no such words came to her ears, so she stayed balled up in the corner. She said a short prayer of safety for Azalia. Still, no all-clear call. She decided that it was time to move to the rendevous the team had set up in case of emergency with the help of who they affectionately called, "The Old Man."
[[Sorry, changing colors, lol.]]

"I'm sorry..." Mia said, rubbing the back of her neck, "I just...felt that I needed to do something..."

"Just stay out of the doorway, I'm not sure if this is a trap." Azalia whispered to Mia. She didn't want to give the all clear yet, not until the girl had come inside and they had safely locked up. She was aware that she might have sounded snappy, but she would wait for apologies. Right now, her primary concern was keeping everyone safe.
((I would have yelled it before, but I didn't want to say that she had come inside, so I was waiting for her to post that she had.))

Jessica rushed inside at the other girl's command. It wasn't a hard one to follow; the cold rain added to what she had just witnessed seemed to propel her into the building.
She couldn't do anything but let the girls give her the blanket and cry. She felt silly, walking into a strange place with no explanation ready, but what would she say? Still, there was a warmth to this place. She could feel a sense of love that she had never felt anywhere else, except when she was with Cassie.

((Great timing))
Azalia quickly locked the door behind the new girl. She wrapped her arms comfortingly around the girl. "Sorry I snapped at you, Mia. Can you run and get her some dry clothes?" She remembered the others in the dining room. "ALL CLEAR!" She yelled. "It's safe!" She turned back to the new girl. "I'm Azalia. What's your name?"

"J-J-Jessica," she choked out, quickly trying to stifle her tears. She hated crying, especially in front of people. Yet here she was, sobbing histerically in front of a bunch of strangers.

Mia nodded and looked at the girl, sizing her up. Assured that she was about the same size, she ran into her room grabbed a pair of jeans and a black shirt, and ran back downstairs. She was suddenly very self-consious about carrying her panther, and stared at her feet, kind of like a embarassed elementary student.

"Shhhh," Azalia said comfortingly to Jessica. "You're safe now, it's okay." Mia came back with the clothes. "Thank you, Mia. Here, Mia has some dry things for you, you can come right here to the bathroom to change." She led Jessica a few doors down the hall to the ladies' room. She pulled a towel from one of the cabinets under the row of sinks. "Just go right in there to change. After that we'll go eat. Do you like spaghetti?" Azalia wanted to have Jessica warm, dry and fed before they asked her her story.
