Further out from the trees, the savannah sweltered under a boiling sun. A reddish skinny shape could just be seen, moving slowly through the short yellow grass. Jumping up far too early, the shape sprang forward in a frantic dash, changing direction quickly and in random spurts, chasing something tiny. Eventually the creature slid to a halt, nose down on the soil, nudging something with her muzzle.
Now she had stopped, a scrawny feline cub could be seen. Her reddish fur clung to her ribs, and her white-tipped tail hung straight to the floor before flicking up again with an optimistic twitch. The black lines that made all of her kind look as if they were crying pitch, made the young cheetah's face look permanently surprised. She tapped the dusty object on the earth with an unbelieving black-tipped paw. Satisfied that it was not going to move, she ravenously snaffled it up, eyes full of pride. Her first kill! All right, so it was only a sickly mongoose kit, and unbeknownest to her she had run it to death, not killed it herself. Nevertheless, it was food, and the first she had tasted for the days since she had left.

Mizaku blinked his grey-ish eyes a few times before opening them all the way. Shadows of tree leaves danced on his body as he flexed his claws and stood up on the branch. I must of fallen asleep while I was watching those Hyena's....Mizaku thought to himself. He yawned and his tail flickered behind him. He jumped to a near-by branch to look passed the trees and see the grasslands. It was very clam...very hot...but very calm. He then looked down at the ground, as if checking to make sure it was safe. He climbed to the lowest branch he could find, and then jumped to the hard, dry dirt. Dust kicked up around him as he landed.

I really need to find something to eat.... the leopard thought, panting slightly as he peeked through a bush. There didn't seem to be anything around...at all. He frowned and lowered his ears, stepping through the bush to get a better look at his surroundings.

Ciyari listens to the conversation around her, assured that, for the moment, Banzai has enough to keep him occupied so he doesn't try to snack on her for lunch. And it seems to turn out true. Feeling put-out that Mafa starts to pay attention to her own kind, she slinks slowly away, not trying to draw any attention onto herself. Bloody hyenas. This is her territory, they shouldn't be trespassing.

Golly, she was hungry. Ears pull back at the thought of food. When had she last eaten? A day, two, three? Scavanging just isn't what it's cut out to be, especially when one has to vie with the vultures and maggots to get to a corpse first. Glowering, she trots on past through the trees, completely forgetting the leopard cub in her hunger. Instead, she spots something reddish-brown up ahead, something...moving. It's small, too. Well, this may be promising. The silver lion cub comes out into the afternoon sunlight, headed straight towards the cheetah cub, head up and with a jaunty walk, as if she owned the place.

The cheetah's head snapped up as the bushes moved a little way away. A tree-cat, one that she had spotted yesterday? A menacing little growl rose in her throat, and she tried to finish her erstwhile meal as quickly as possible. No-one could steal her kill! Her blue eyes looked flatly at the other, watching him all the time.
Another noise was heard. This time the silver pride-cat! They were ganging up to steal her food! She swallowed hastily, and in a voice that was entirely too young tried to snarl.
"Back off, pride-cat! My kill!"

Mizaku spotted the cheetah quickly, one of those fast-running cats... he grunted and stepped closer, lowering his head. He glanced at Ciyari and flashed a grin at her before glaring back at the cheetah. He ducked into the grass and thought Maybe...somehow...I can take this cheetah out...she looks really exauhsted anyway...wait, I think Ciyaris going for her too.... He raised his head again to see Ciyari's position, and then ducked back into the tall grass. His feet padded softly on the dirt as he came closer. Hopefully the cheetah cub was too distracted by her meal....

Oh, food! And a little cheetah cub. Jauntily, jaw jutting out, Ciyari makes her way towards Laio, trodding carefully across the dusty earth, so she doesn't fall and make a fool of herself in the process. "You're huntin' on my land, spot-cat! You need to pay a fee...but I'll settle for half of that there kill. You're lucky, the last hyena puppy that came in here, my dad ate her 'cause she wouldn't pay the fee," The lion cub says, sternly. She's famished. Her stomach rumbles.

Her gaze meets Mizaku's for a split second, and the tiniest of smiles curls on the edge of her muzzle. Keep the cheetah's attention, though. She advances on Laio. "And another thing..."

The cub stood her ground, her sides still heaving from the chase, her gaze bold and a little frightened. Her mouth wasstillfull, leaving only half a pitiful mouthful of kill on the ground, but it was worth the effort. She should have been intimidated by the two; one was creeping, but the other made no effort to conceal herself. A tremor broke through her body, and the cheetah cub wondered if she would have the strength to fight. But then the pride-cat spoke.
Half my kill.... or safety? Laio glanced down at the mouthful left on the floor, and then at the proud pride-cat. Who knows, there might be older ones about... trembling slightly, she backed off, ready to dash if an attack was made, leaving the kill in the open. She opened her mouth, shut it again, and then thought.
"What is the other thing?" she asked cautiously, trying to spot where the tree-cat had got to, having lost his place in the corner of her eye.

Mizaku gazed angrily at the small scrap of food left. He crept silently around the left side of the cheetah cub and used his natural balance to keep him from tripping or stumbling. He hadn't eaten in days....now here was his chance. He glanced at Ciyari again and tried to think about what she was doing. Was she really going to settle for just a bite like that? Mizaku crouched low, stopping his paces and thinking he was just about close enough for an attempt. His eyes fixed hungrily on the tired cheetah, and hesitated for a second to see if Ciyari would do anything.

"You got no right to go running in on someone's territory like that," The cub says, sounding hurt. "Not without asking, anyways. It's just not polite. Didn't your parents teach you any manners?" The grey cub moves even closer to the cheetah cub, until she's only mere feet away. "Now, hand half the kill over, please. I don't want alla it, 'cause you gotta eat, too." She gives a rather significant glare towards the grass where Mizaku is hiding.

The cheetah took another few steps backwards, her head low and submissive. If this was the pride-cat's territory, there were sure to be others about. She tried to be more forward. "I don't have my parents. Our coalition broke. My mother and brother had a fight, and I was searching for my own territory. I did not know this was your family's, pride-cat. It did not smell as such." She sighed as the silvery feline took possession of her meagre kill, and then spoke again.
"Where's the tree-cat? Don't think I didn't see him. I thought you kinds didn't like each other..." The cheetah danced sideways nervously. Now was not the time to stumble into trouble.

Mizaku clawed his feet into the ground a few times as he watched and waited for the right moment. ...what was Ciyari doing? Maybe...she was disrtacting the cheetah for him! Good thinking! It was perfect, he would thank Ciyari later...while they feasted on a good, large meal. His tail didn't move, didn't even flick. His body was perfectly still for just a moment. Mizaku took a smal breath as he felt ready now. He crouched very low, paws pressed into the ground, and then lept out with his claws extended and mouth open, aimed for the cheetah-cubs neck.

Oh, dear. This just isn't working out as she planned. She hadn't intended to really beat the cheetah off of her meal - just share it, rather. So when Mizaku leaps out at Laio, she doesn't have much time to respond to the cheetah cub's statements. Instead, she heaves a long sigh, rolls her eyes, and jumps up with her hind feet, so that her back feet are firmly planted on the ground. "HEEEYYYYYYYY!" She yells, front paws flailing to get their attention. As she's got quite a set of lungs on her, this is most impressive.

With a startled burst of speed, the cub dashed out of the way of the larger, growling tree-cat, a small yowl escaping from her throat. She forced her tired legs to run further out onto the plain, and paused, breath coming harsh in her throat. Obviously this place was dangerous; was it worth hanging around? But the prey was more plentiful here.... but a cat, to attack her thus! Laio trembled and remained frozen to the spot, unsureof whether to flee, or return. Then she watched surprised as the silver pride-cat yelled for their attention.
Creeping slightly closer, eyes firmly on the fuming tree-cat, Laio listened to what the other had to say.

Mizaku raised a brow as his gaze fixed on the silver lion cub. He blinked a few times as he looked at her, confused. He didn't want to lose the cheetah, but he knew that what Ciyari was trying was probably important. His eyes shifted to glare at the cheetah, as if to say ...I'm not through with you, yet... A dark hiss echoed from the leopards throat as he stared at the cheetah, awaiting Ciyari's words.
