It all started out with one singular corperation, biding for power amongst all those in the world. Gintek, a software development and research center located in Europe. Within this corperation's main building research was done. This research spanned all forms of computer technology, both perfecting and developing. Much of the creations of this company were mediocre, nothing important at all. Yet as their supporters started to drift away they made a breakthrough.
From research based around the net they spawned an AI (Artificial Intelligence) that was able to take information and evolve it forward. Eventually, with enough data-plugs and new sponsers, they were able to give it a sense of 'free thought'. With what information had been plugged in the AI, now named 'Hex', could function as a free entity. It would soon be a discovery that 'Hex' was compatible with any software type, able to merge with networks. When word of this spread the sponsers boomed.
That was how Hex got started, in August 23, 2005, fourty years ago.
Shortly after the creation of Hex, it became a much more wide-spread thing. Gintek began to make alliances and deals with major internet service providers and computer companies. Their goal was to create a new version of computer, with a connection to Hex built in, that would allow access to it. Only two years later, all companies who provided computer services had began use of Hex. It had become a world-wide thing, people trading in their old computers for new ones. Through Hex one could attain information faster and more efficiently. 'The perfect system' some would call it. In truth, it has been even until the present day.
That was only the beginning of Hex though. Over time, as information based around the program boomed, so did the accessories. People are usually hungry for information at all times. A faster and more efficient connection to the net was needed. Thus would begin the production of items such as the HC (Hex Connector) chip. Originally the HC was a product that sold for a very high price. It was a chip that was installed into a person's head. The surgery was remotely dangerous for that time, few wanted one. But as medical science grew so did people's desires. More and more invested in the chip which would allow them limitless access to the net and Hex.
Originally the HC only allowed a person to hear the information they mentally asked Hex for. Only two years later another accessory was invented to go hand in hand with the chip. The advanced name for this product was the MPVS (Mental Projection Visual System), but most would just refer to it as a visor. Wrapping over the eyes with a clear blue screen, it allowed one to project the information onto the screen. The benefits of this were many. Instead of getting a possibly unclear response from Hex, one could now see things from the net. There was no longer a need for the keyboard and mouse, all things could be done through thought. Thus the need for a big bulky computer died out altogether. Only ten years later, it became mandatory for children to have the chip installed at birth. The world had converted to an entirely new form of technology based around the net. It allowed faster communication, the ability to find information quickly, as well as general browsing capabilities.
It would be the year 2021 when the 'Great Gintek Scare' happened. A lone hacker managed to break into the Hex system. Once inside, he sent in a virus. Only fifty people died from the virus, seventy by accidents related to the virus, before he was captured and it was purged. Yet it had been enough to do quite a deal of damage to their reputation. A law was based to ban the procedure for infants if the parent did not consent. Also, another law was based to enforce the use of Encription Codes. These codes were the keys to Hex's system. The only way one could come into possession of one was to be a high-ranking Gintek employee, or a governmental official.
That would not be enough to stop hackers though. There were still scattered attempts to get into Hex's system via remote terminals, computers, that ended in failure. Yet the memory of all the trouble caused by a single virus was fresh. Thus ANTIDOTE was born. This was a group of people, under the payroll of Gintek, who handled all viral related matters. Some would even call these people something along the lines of the Secret Service. They held the Encription Codes to Hex, each at diffrent levels, and were allowed greater access to the system. Where a government official hit his/her limits, they could go much further. They are Rank A on the scale, next to only Olan Benson who is the founder of Gintek and the creator of Hex.
At first this group was only a small team of computer people. It would not be until the year 2028 that ANTIDOTE took on a much more powerful role. Science had continued to evolve around the creation of Hex. One such thing was the robot, a mechanical being with Hex controlling it. These served as servants for the most part, holding lesser roles. None of them really possessed a sense of free-will, they were only there to serve. When Hex was created it was deemed that free will was not for the best. Thus it was a decision of the Gintek staff to give it the ability to learn but not the ability to think. Keeping it to where it would follow orders without question was deemed for the best. But with the advent of robots the worry over hackers became greater. Thus the members of ANTIDOTE were given military training, becoming a governmental agency. Under the control of the government they were, but that was only in name. Gintek still had them on the payroll.
In the current day, 2045, Hex has remained a world-wide system. People everywhere use it as the prime source of information gain. But as of late not all has been well for Gintek. A group of people in America have deemed Hex an abomination. Too much information given to the masses, too much reliance on technology. This group, calling themselves Revelation, have begun what might call an 'religious crusade' on Gintek. They believe, for the most part, that people are losing the faith and becoming the servants of a program.
The members of Revelation come in many diffrent forms. Some will only boycott Gintek buildings, which now span the globe. Some have even been known to try and infect the system with another virus. Yet there are even those who have taken to acts of terrorism against the company. Most would have expected these people to have been stopped when they started. Such a thing was not possible though. The founder of Revelation never revealed themselves, nor does it seem he/she ever will. All attempts to catch the man have ended in complete and utter failure. Also his/her group is crafty in their own fashion. Cybernetic enhancement, a procedure to replace human parts with robotic parts, is one of their trade-marks. This is what has made the group so effective at terrorism.
Due to the ever-growing violent acts of Revelation, Gintek and Antidote have begun to 'fight back' to a point. The Antidote members have now been required to go through army training. Antidote has even gone as far as to become a part of the army itself, though they take orders from Gintek. It has almost come down to underground warfare between the two groups, Revelation attacking and Gintek defending.
Many have given up the use of the HC chip out of fear that it might become infected. As of late, things have been looking bad. People have grown to rely heavily on the use of Hex, to lose it would be a crushing blow for the world. So much has become based around it that they can not go back. Instead, what appears to be the making of a war is happening.
