'Man!' Hikaru sighed as he entered the lab, suddenly realising how rude of him that was. He was beat up and his clothes were ripped and he was sporting a very shiney black eye. He looked around for the Professor, grumbling to himself about how he should have taken the train. He sighed again seeing only one person in the room he asked: 'Are you the professor?'

"Oh dear, did something happen? You seem to be a little worse for wear," the man asks.
"Hold on, I think I might have something..." he retreated to the back of the lab for a moment before returning with an ice pack and handing it over. "This might help a bit with that black eye," he elaborated with a nod, "and yes, I'm Professor Elm, nice to meet you."

Hikaru bowed his head politly. Gladly accepting the ice pack and placing it over the eye in question.
'Thanks.' was all he could think to say and he waited for a while befoer continuing.
'I need a pokemon.' the words almost exploded from hs mouth in a half yell. For some reason he thought the proffessor would be angry. He looked the professor in his eyes for the first time since entering and in a much lighter tone said: 'Well, what do you say?'

"Well, I think one would definitely come in handy when you get into situations like that," the professor smiled faintly, indicating Hikaru's current state of disarray. "And I'd be happy to help out a trainer just starting out, so I think all we need to determine now is which one you'd prefer."
The professor considered for a moment, before speaking up again, "Here we have Torchic, Mudkip, and Treeko, and we have plenty of each, so which would you like as your first partner?"

'I-I'd like Mudikip.' Hikaru said at first, but then he hastily added: 'if it's not a problem.' his body was racked with exitement he was finaly goging to get a pokemon of his own. But he would have to train it before returning to Odale. Just to be on the safeside. He smiled hapily at the professor, shacking slightly awaitinhg a reply.

"This'll be your new partner," he informed the small Pokemon, who glanced to Hikaru curiously. "Kip?" Hikaru looked into the eyes of the little beast which were open big and inteligent. He had not a clue how to react. Due to this he turned back to the professor.
'So what the heck am I meant to do now?' he looked worried as if he was going to screw everything up. Then he crouched down to look at his new companion who stared back calmly into his new owners eyes.

"Well now, I think that's all up to you," the Professor nods with another smile. "Although I have a feeling you'll do fine as a trainer. Each person has their own ideas on how to train and raise their Pokemon, so its up to you to find the strategy that works for you."
"For starters, it might be a good idea to get to know your partner. After all, you'll be traveling mates for a while," he laughs quietly.
"But if you're feeling adventurous," the Professor murmurs, glancing back to the computer monitor that flickered behind him, "I have had reports received of trouble brewing lately, both in the Hoenn region, as well as Johto and Sinnoh too. I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but I think it might warrant a bit of investigating, if you're up to it, of course."

'I need to visit my aunt first. She lives in Lillycove but I doubt anything interesting ever happens there.' as he said it he remembered the parts of his child hood being dragged around the huge mall in Lillycove. Yeah, it was a big building but nothing interesting ever happened there. Hikaru didn't add anymore knowing the professor did not want to know his life story. Just as he was leaving - the Mudkip following almost sheepishly - he remembered something he had to ask.
'Oh yeah, where can I get some pokeballs?' Hikaru after all wanted more pokemon in his team.
