Well, if your director is anything like mine, you need to tap your foot, at least in practice! He goes walking all over the room and if you have no idea where the beat is, train wreck! My BD doesn't care if you tap as long as it's not ridiculous, pounding your foot for example. I just tap my toe because when you're standing you're not supposed to tap your foot, it looks odd. Personally, I wouldn't listen to him and go on tapping anyway. It's what works for you, unless he's your private teacher too or something...

Not really for us or me. Some of my friends in band does, but I don't mind people who do. Tapping for babies? They complain too much >.> Frankly, I don't need to. I bob my head xD Because most of the songs I play for the drum kit in band is all improvised, I never go with what shows on the sheet. All in my head xD

Tapping your foot isn't bad at all, unless you're on a stage performing, sound is magnified, and if you tap loud enough people can hear it. If he askes you to stop you can still just tap your toe in your shoe or something.

I tap my foot. I'm not concious of it though.....it's just a natural thing. A lot of people dont do it...btu i find that the people who do tend to stay better tempo and work better with rythms!

I tap my foot all the time. I'm in a community and college band (I'm one of the college band geeks) and the old timers in my band tap their feet all the time. My jazz band director taps his foot while we are playing.. I see nothing wrong with zee tapping of dee feets.. I even count long rests on my fingers.. I get yelled at for it but if it helps me keep time and helps me come in on time than I'm gonna do it gosh darn it! pirate

My old BD yelled at us if we DIDN'T tap our foot. My new one doesn't care, but I'm the only one in my section who does it, and I'm the only one in the right place. But if you're not supposed to, wear big shoes. Then when you tap, no one will notice.

you know, tapping you're foot is sort of proffesional because it shows that you can keep up with the tempo and stuff.
