He wanted to destroy all human life, save for him and a handful of other incompetents and basically start over. Since I haven't gotten far in the manga, I don't know if he became Shaman King or not, but it's my opinion that he wouldn't be very popular.

You know, I kinda think it'd be nice if evil conquered over good for once. I'm getting sick of all this "good will always prevail" garbage 4Kids is pushing on the shows.

Hao is basically death. He wants to destroy everything. Yoh is therefore life, he wants everything to stay the same. So, I do understand that without Hao, Yoh is nothing.

But why would Hao do such a thing? What would cause him to think that to save humanity you'd have to basically wipe the slate clean? confused

From the manga point of view cause the anime made it sorta screwed. 1000 years ago Hao was born into the world as Asaha Douji son of Asano Ha (Hao's original mother) Hao's dad isn't mentioned. It was during the late heian period of Japan. A place full of fear. A time of crisis. People were afraid of ghostly parades. Asano Ha was what people would call that time a fox. A fox person usually refers to someone who is posessed by a fox spirit and can see spirits demons and even gods. At that time cruel corrupt people would say that whoever would see spirits are bad. Hao was harrased by people at an early age. Hmmm what I could tell like about 2 1/2 it showed that he was being picked on by other kids. ne day the people found Asano Ha they traped her in her house and burned it down luckily Hao or Asaha Douji got away safely. 2 years or 6 years later while he was sitting by the road a demon came up to him. And surprisingly he talked to the demon. The demons name was ohachiyo he claimed that Hao was juist an ordinary boy but Hao keeps on saying he's a demon child. Hao growing up alone never learned much. At least he knew how to talk. Ohachiyo changed Asaha Douji's name to Mappa Douji since he said it was confusing with his mother's name. They became friends. Ohachiyo taught Hao how to write how to count and how to identify things. Poor guy he usually eats grass cause he couldn't fish well. one of the people saw Hao talking alone in th dark. They reported it to a monk named densen. Ohachiyo said one time that since it was hard to live alone it would be good that he had some demon powers. Later there was a confrontation between densen houshi(monk) and him. He used the special powers ohachiyo taught him. In other words Hao oversouled Ohachiyo into a dagger which turnedout as a big iron rod XD. Ohachiyo taught Hao reishi (mind reading technique) He said Hao learned well. But since he could read his minds he saw how corrupt densen houshi really was. All the fear sorrow anger of humans thoughts that time flowed into his mind. And during that time there was chaos everywhere so what do you think Hao would think. Just because people can see spirits doesn't mean they're demons. So Hao found out that what the humans were thinking were rubbish. His mom was killed for no absolute reason at all. Later on he went with some guy and learned to become an onmyouji. Onmyouji's believe that there should be a balance between nature. So guess what humans now are destroyinmg that nature. Actually Hao's story is sad and traumatic and very very long. See this I was gonna continue but I stopped myself.

EDIT: And besides. You forgot stuff. (You really should have just shortened Mappa Douji down a bit, though xd ).
I basically started saving my Hao rants, so I don't have to keep....retyping them @_@
