Cupping her hands, she caught the car keys. It had been so long since she'd owned a pair of those. She laughed out loud at the thought of driving off a cliff. If there were any cliffs around, she would definitely be the one to find it.
Heading outside with him, she made a mental note to head for the driver's seat instead of the passenger as usual. Settling herself in front of the steering wheel, she buckled up and stuck the key in. This time she was more aware of the vibrating roar the car made when it started. The car was under her control.
"Alright, we take a left going out of the parking lot right?" she asked to make sure. She didn't need them getting lost and wasting his gas.

"Unless you have some top secret evil plan to drive around town for the rest of the night, yep." He dropped rather heavily into the passenger's seat, buckling up fairly quickly. It wasn't that he didn't trust her in particular. He just, didn't really trust other people driving in general. "And my sense of direction could be a bit off, this was the first time I came here after all. But don't worry, if we end up lost we could always call the diner and tell them to make more pie. Then we could follow our noses home."

His comments made her laugh, and therefore made her feel more comfortable being at the wheel again. She could completely understand his quick buckling; she would have done the same.
"No evil plan that I know of," she smirked. "Though if worse comes to worst, I wouldn't mind more pie."
She gingerly put the car in reverse to back out into the parking lot. Being careful to check all sides of the car, she carefully made her way to the exit. Left turns were a b***h on two-way streets. Cars were coming from both sides. Finally there was a small break, and she took her chance.
Her first left turn in a year. And she hadn't screwed up.

Stephan had kept a close watch on the road as she turned, and for not having driven in a year, she did surprisingly well. "Hey, look at that, we're still alive," he teased, "Course I could be wrong. But I always imagined Heaven as more of a... Glowie, place." Jokes seemed to calm her down, and he sure as hell didn't want to be in the car with a nervous driver.

Her smile was getting progressively larger as she drove, trying to keep from laughing as she concentrated on the road. She wasn't doing too horribly. Just to be safe she drove at exactly the speed limit, rather than speed like everyone else around her seemed to be doing. It occurred to her that she didn't have a license on her, but hopefully she wouldn't get pulled over.
"Hopefully it has pie and coffee too," she started looking around for her next turn. "There's a turn coming up, I know it. Any idea where it is?"

"Well, anywhere else I might point out a way, but I think it'd be better to just look up and see the building," he laughed, reminding her that there weren't really many big scientific looking complexes in the area. "It's right past this gas station I think, on the right." So there was a time for smartass comments, and this wasn't exactly it. But he figured that as long as he followed one up with a helpful thing, she wouldn't get pissed off.

"Ah, I forgot about the building," she said sheepishly, seeing it in the distance on the right. Just past the gas station like he said. Looking in her right blind spot, she changed lanes to get prepared to make her first right turn in a year. Right turns were considerably easier. After the gas station (man, were prices really that high?), she saw the secluded turn. Pulling off the right turn successfully, she made it onto the empty road toward the compound.
"Where should I park it?" she asked a bit smugly, proud that she hadn't dinged up his car. "Same place as before?"

"Yeah, where it was is fine, that way I won't lose it," he said with a bit of a grin, remembering the one time he actually did lose his car. There'd been some serious explaining to do about that one, but he had ended up finding it after only a day or so, so it hadn't been that bad. Glancing out the window at the sky, he added, "I'll walk you back to your building if you want, it's pretty dark." Even the frat boy had a few remnants of chivalry.

"Alright then, now to find out where that place was," she said, looking for anything resembling where he had first shown her his car. She blushed at the thought of being walked to her apartment, but it was dark and she hoped he didn't see.
"Sure, that would be nice."
Ah, there it was. She found the exact spot and slowly pulled over, being extremely careful not to run it into the sidewalk. Having completed a successful drive, she turned off the car and unbuckled herself.
"I guess that wasn't too horrible for not having driven in a while," she smiled.

Unbuckling himself, he nodded, "You drive better after a year than most of my friends drove after an hour." Of course, his friends also often drove as fast as they felt they could push a car just to prove they weren't pansies. Swinging open his door, he glanced over at her, "Lotta of freaks wandering around out there, I should know, I'm friends with some of them." He was sort of joking, but it was true. He did used to hang out with a bunch of creeps.

Her face flushed when he complimented her driving. It had been slightly fun too. Maybe one day, when she could afford it, she'd get her own car. Nothing fancy, but something to just drive around in when she felt bored.
She laughed with a mischeivous smirk. "Well, then you'd be the perfect person to ward them off if I run into one."
That, and she enjoyed his company. For a frat boy, he sure was being extremely not-frat-boyish. She liked that. Getting out of the car, she tried to get her bearings on where she actually was. The gardens were in view, which meant her building was straight ahead.
"Well, my apartment's this way. Shall we?"

"Don't see why not," He said, swinging the door closed with a bit of a thud. "Unless you'd like to come back to my place," he added, showing a bit of a devious smile. Well, no one could say he didn't try. And worst she could do was slap him. Or laugh. The latter seemed like a better alternative. He was fidgeting a bit, suddenly remembering he still sort of looked like a teenager fresh out of gym class in his previously wonderful running shorts.

Not noticing the smile in the dark, she paused for a moment to make a decision. Go home and possibly find that Gavin woke himself up and did something destructive to entertain himself, or delay the inevitable and get to see another apartment? Figuring she wasn't quite ready for toddler clean up just yet, she decided to go with the latter.
"Sure, if it's not inconvenient for you," she smiled back, though not devious like his was.

"Huh?" Stepahn quirped, seeming a bit confused, "Uh, I was actually kidding, but it wouldn't be any trouble. You could take a look at the rooms, maybe give me some idea of what would look good." And if she was feeling friendly... Bad Steps. You just met her a few hours ago! Well, not that that's stopped you before, but still. You'll actually have to see this girl again. But she's cute. Ah the wars that went on in his brain sometimes.

She blinked, slightly confused at first. He hadn't sounded like he was kidding. But if he said it wouldn't be any trouble, it wouldn't hurt just to at least see his apartment.
"That's a great idea," she replied, wanting to help with organizing the rooms and such. And picking paint colors. That was her favorite part. The actual painting sucked, but choosing the paint was her guilty pleasure. "So where's your building again? I've yet to get familiar with the layout of this place."
