hm... today I was at a reed making lesson deal with the student teacher and I was in the preliminary stages of shaving down the tip of the reed (from 61 mm to the tip) and I was taking my sweet merry time so I wouldn't destroy it. She got tired of waiting for me to finish so she 'finished it up for me'... if that means cutting off two of the corners and pretty much ruining the reed, then yeah, she finished it up for me...

The closest to reed-making I've gotten was when this reed I absolutely adored was coming apart (the string part, and I play bassoon by the way) and I had to ask the band director (a bassoonist who makes his own reeds) to fix it for me because a concert was coming up and I couldn't part with the thing.
He put this wickedly awesome seafoam-green string on it.
I still miss that reed... gonk crying

I'm the only one in my section, so I go with the Saxes and Horns for sectionals. We call it the 'Oddball Section'. I don't like going with the flutes because they don't get ANY work done.
How does everyone else oboe sectionals go?

i play bassoon for my wind ensemble, only been playing for a year though but my director was desperate xp i actually played with them after playing for only about a couple months because there was this solo that they needed and their bassoon player couldn't play it. he gave me the music a week before contest and so i had to learn the entire show in a week...ahhh good times....

In marching season I play mello, but concert bassoon. I love it, because since I'm a girl, I get to be around the guys during marching season... so I get to know them a lot better then the woodwind girls. =)

I'm starting to give bassoon lessons to a girl from middle school. An easy way to get community service hours.
