And when I scry, I've only seen something two times. On my first and on my third try. I used a mirror, a small, handheld pocket mirror. The mirror turned watery and then a butterfly popped out at me. What do you think that meant?

Viragogirl @ Sophie: I dunno... What kind of butterfly was it? @ Dark: sorry! sad It's ok. I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. It's just that there's a lot of people who here who have no clue what you're saying when you do that.

Alright..
I'll try and do my best.
Maggie, I'm hesitant to agree whether it was spirits or not. The colours are normal for scrying: as you know, they're what you get before you recieve coherant shapes. I think that the trance-like state was perhaps a form of elemental interference - like elemental meditation. What element are you? It could be water, or fire having an objection towards that. The chanting... hmm. Again, my thoughts are that it could have been memories from a past life. Maybe you used to do that kinda thing: and it just came to you, it felt right. Ding! Sorry, trying to stay easy to understand, but it's hard at the same time as thoughts coming out at me. The type of colours you saw represent the maiden. Is it the waxing moon where you are?
Barnacles, I've forgotten what else... gonk I'll try and remember, and get back to you as soon as I can.
Bernadette.. The butterfly. This could be telling you to settle down into a scrying routine, and not to flitter. They are also symbols of transformation: maybe you're (or someone very close to you) going to go under a great change, for the better - just like going from a catterpillar. The butterfly is a symbol of change. How big was the butterfly? Did it have intricate markings? All of this will point towards the meaning of it.

My elements are both fire and water. I think it was about the time of the new moon when I did it.

Well the only mirror I had then was a small, handheld, heart shaped mirror. The butterfly popped out at me and covered the mirror surface. It had markings on it, like any normal butterfly would, but it also had symbols sorta. I lost it before I could examine it closer. Sorry. sweatdrop

That's alright! I'm not going to incinerate you - unlike some teachers... Uhm, yes. I'm still sticking to my interpretation that I mentioned before. I firmly believe though, that you yourself are the one that can work out the true meaning to things like dreams and scrying. We're happy to help, as are books on the subject but a number of factors make us wrong, and make us waffle. Like I'm doing now. ^^; So yes: just like truly finding your element, you're the culprit of truth. wink
Maggie.. Well, that would probably explain it then. As for the meaning: it could show that beginnings and potential are in the making - or that they've already happened in a past life, but now they're new. sweatdrop Did that make sense? Gah.. probably wasn't too helpful though. Too be honest, I'm slightly stumped by it sorry.. o_O

A more in depth answer, is where you look into any surface and attempt to find clues as to what the future will hold. It is also useful for finding out answers. The most common surface to look into is water, a mirror or crystals. For a brief guide on crystal scrying, you can find one here.

I have alot of interest in scrying, but I haven't tried it yet. I really want to try gazing into a bowl of water but I don't want to use just any bowl.
Does anyone have any tips for a beginner scryer who's just starting out?

Chibi Aara Chan I have alot of interest in scrying, but I haven't tried it yet. I really want to try gazing into a bowl of water but I don't want to use just any bowl.
Does anyone have any tips for a beginner scryer who's just starting out? I would recommend that you start with an element you're comfortable with. For example, if you're a Fire element and you feel most comfortable with Fire, don't go and try to scry with a blessed bowl of Water. You'll just throw yourself all out of balance. Depending what elements you're most comfortable with, try one of the following for your first try: A polished stone, a lit candle, a small bowl of water, incense smoke, or a polished piece of metal. Now, the metal one I'm not all that familiar with myself. I come from a European tradition of five elements, the last one being the unified Spirit, but I have a few friends of Asian background who swear by their ability to scry using polished bits of metal, usually iron or steel. Go figure. wink
