I believe 'chan' is for when younger people are talking to their elders. Something like that. T'woul be better to call him Babi-kun.

t0shi0 is correct... chan is used for older pple talking to younger pple... xD (well, mainly used for pre-elementary school kids, close friends and even pet names xDD) actually it's more for girls but nowadays Japanese also just use chan for little boys...
