Action Summary:
The mayor and teamster are overjoyed that you all will be helping. The mayor takes you to one of the drier sleeping areas and tells you to get a night's rest. The rain still pours down on the town, and the crackles and hisses of dying fires can be heard throughout the town as you bed down.

All of the things purchased would have been readily available. The caravan is in town...

Current situation:
In the morning the city is bustling with activity. Interim shelters are being set up for those with no place to live. It is a hot morning, with not a cloud to be seen, but the town is still soaked from the storm. Smoke lingers about the area, as there are no winds. Repairs are already starting on many of the less damaged buildings, the beginnings of scaffoldings crowd the streets on both sides in the less damaged areas.
The caravan has been moved right into the east side of town, where massive destruction is evident and piles of smouldering rubble lie where massive structures had been the night before. People bustle in every direction at once, some looking for food and shelter, some busy with repairs, some clearing debris, some cleaning remains and hauling carts.. But there is a large crowd forming near the eastern road, not 200 yards from where a battle had been the night before.
There are uniformed caravan guards forming the crowd into lines, and merchants scatter the area, readying for the coming trip. Even with the loss the caravan has many goods left.
It appears that the caravan is hiring guards and workers, just like the mayor and teamster had said. They are promising an excellent wage, compared to what people in such a town live on, so many men from the area have come to sign up. There is an area just behind this where townsfolk are being given a mix of light or medium armors and cheap weapons.

"G'morning!" calls a large man coming in your direction as you leave communal shelter you spent the night in. He is a mountian of a man, wearing half-plate with an enormous sword on his belt.
He introduces himself as Beorn Beornson, captian of the Triel guard, though he is from an area far to the north. "I foun' an ol' frien' of mine o'er at that caravan, he's talkin' ta them merchants now. Thought ya'd like to meet 'im. C'mon."

He leads you through the crowd, to where a young ranger with long, black hair is talking to some merchants. He is trying to trade furs, while they attempt to recruit him to work in the caravan.

He introduces him to you as Galvin Stormshadow.

Yep, that's our new player! The caravan is about to leave the town, just wanted to give a little scenery and introduce the new guy.

The Crypt of St. Bethesda
Credit where credit is due

Action Summary:
All of our heroes leave with the caravan a few hours later. After all the worry and preparation, the long trip to Daerlun is quite eventful, even boring. After a few days the caravan arrives at the gates of the large city. The merchants begin unloading and setting up shop, hoping to make enough to get all the supplies Triel will need. You spend the day lounging around with the other guards, watching the endless bustle of people trading in the city market as you "guard" the goods and merchants. This actually involves quite a lot of eating and drinking at a table near the merchant's booths.

Current situation:

Not all threats lurk in the wilderness, and not all dungeons lie far of from the realms of man. The gravest threats appear in the heart of civilization, hiding beneath harmless veneers and waiting for the moment to strike

You have travelled to Daerlun with the caravan from Triel, assuring it's safe passage along the traderoute. After a journey like that there is only one place to head, the Lion's Feast Tavern, of course!

In the wee hours of the morning, after an evening engaging in revelry, you stumble back toward the Battered Horse Inn, where a family member of one of the caravan's merchants has rooms for you. Your path takes you through a dark area of the city: the cemetary district, where feilds of graves jostle against ancient churches and family crypts. Off in the distance somewhere you hear a scream, but there is no way to tell where it came from, so you keep going. Rounding a corner soon after Timothy stumbles over something in the dark.

At first you think it's just a pile or garbage, but a closer inspection reveals something much grislier: a human corpse, its face frozen is a rictus of fear. Several stab wounds ooze fresh blood from its belly, and the flesh is marred by what appears to be acids burns. The skin is warm to the touch, and some of the injuries still smoke. He's not been dead for more than a few minutes.

The body shifts slightly as you examine it, an for a moment, you think the victim may still be alive. Then the truth reveals itself: Small, sinewy worms, colored a strange lavender, twist and writhe within his clothes. They number less than twenty and seem to cluster near the acid burns. A faint trail of slime leads from the body to an open grate in the street, dotted with more of the strange, lavender worms. The building above it, a towering wreck of a catherdral dedicated to someone named St. Bethesda, has been boarded up for years apparently, but if you listen closely, faint noises can be heard beneath it.

"Halt!" The clink of mail, and the sound of running feet break up your examination. A squad of city guardsmen - several blocks away but closing quickly - flash their lanterns in your direction.

"Murderers!" the cry goes up. "Halt in the name of the watch!"

This doesn't look good.

The guards are closing in fast, and can see you clearly with their hooded lanterns pointed in your direction.

Not wanting any trouble, I put my hands up, and try to explain the situation, loud enough so that they can hear me"Good sirs, we are not the one or ones responsible for this poor souls demise. We have only just stumbled on the body ourselves. If you would allow us a chance, and come examine the body yourselves, you will see some very strange abnormalities, which clearly do not add up to us having done this." Hoping they will not be the type to kill first and ask questions eventually, I motion to the others to put their hands up in a non threatening way, hoping they will not try to start a fight.

Following the lead of the monk he unhooks his mace from his belt and sets in on the ground before raising his hands in the air. "He speaks the truth. We do not wish to start a fight, but we are not the ones responsible."

Action Summary:
Everyone stopped to speak with the guards. They surround you and the leader comes up to respond.

Current situation:
The leader of the watch eyes you suspiciously, listening intently while you relate to him what you have discovered. When you have finished he scratches his chin, apparently thinking about your story.
"Well, if your story is truth, I say we both save ourselves some trouble then." he finally says, with what looks like a bit of a smirk on his grim face. "I will allow you to follow the trail, down into the sewers below the cathedral. If you can manage to find me a killer, and produce evidence that clears you names, I will not have you arrested and tried. Otherwise, you are going to rot in the dungeon for as long as it take for your crime to make it's way through our city's court system. Where you will, of course, be sentenced to death." With this last addition, his smirk is no longer hidden.
The leader of the guard informs you that there will be a watch posted around the cathedral area until morning. "If you have not arrived with you evidence by dawn, you will find yourselves wanted fugitives."

What do you say?

Aravol grumbles under his breath, though sure to make it so quiet even he cannot fully har himself. "It seems this twisted situation has left us little choice. Besides," He continues, lifting his to defiantly look the captain in the eyes, "it would seem that the guard is a little too busy, correct? Either way, the guilty here does not seem to be ready stop, so I'll go." With those words, Aravol turns around and waits for the others at the entrance of the inn.

I look at the others, and then look back at the guards."Given the circumstances, I don't think we have much choice. At least I know I go into this with good company." Under my breath, I add "and I certainly don't mean the guards"

"Well how do we know that you will not kill us when we get back, if I remember the guard doesn't always act with the best interest of the defendants." I say lookg at them, "What guarantee do we have that we'll not be killed."
PostPosted: Tue May 02, 2006 1:05 pm

He nods at the guard leader. He then slowly reaches down to pick up his mace and hook it to his belt again. "Your terms are resonable and just. We will certainly find the killer for you. I am sure that the rest of my companions will also comply with your terms." He then turns and stares at the rest of the party with a look that states that he will not tolerate any person who trys to run or hide from the guard and does not comply with what the guard has said.
