My band teacher suggested I learn something other than flute, and gave me a tenor and a jazz book. I fell in love,and immediatly joined up in our jazz band. ^-^

My friends in the school jazz band were going crazy looking for a pianist. One day I happened to mention I played the piano. I was immediately shanghaied into the band. Worked out for the best, though. I love the songs we play!

I'v almost always enjoyed Jazz! When I was about 6 I remember my aunt taking me to a concert...and although I don't recall any of it at all, I had completly fallen in love with it!
Of course I loved seeing the look on adults faces when they asked me what music I listened to. It was simply priceless....lol!

Probably when our BD in middle school told us about tryouts for Jazz Band. I made it every year.

Well...I remember when I was a little kid and I would watch those movies and whenever a romantic scene or a really happy go-lucky part of the movie came up, this music played as well. And I was like "Wow! What is this?" I didn't know what it was until just this past school year when I auditioned for my district's jazz band and, strangely, made it in on First Alto! Now I didn't know what to do, but I was always known for doing loads of research on things so I didn't look like the stupid one. So I started listening to the jazz on radio stations and YouTube and researching the Jazz Greats. It took me a while to catch on...but before I knew it, I had fallen in love with jazz. Especially after this loooooooong practice session with my teacher to better my improv skills...
Jazz Band was the greatest thing that has ever happened to me... heart

I don't know, probably influence from one of my friends older brother who I admired greatly. That, and when I made jazz band I figured how fun it was to play- why not try to listen to it on my own accord? I sorta forget, really, but this is how I imagine it went on. whee

i just saw it in a lot of movies...and liked it there...the whole jazzy atmosphere...
and later got my hands on some sinatra work and from there it grew...

I worked my way up. It was more an expansion of my musical interests and my lack of interest in the mediocre rock that MTV was spewing out at the time. However, there were a few exceptional rock groups from the 90s I still enjoy. I love Jazz, but I don't hold it above any other form of music I enjoy.

i neede something to do in school and since i play guitar i couldn't be in ne of the band classes. so i joined chorus and one day one of my friends comes up to and says that the jazz band needs a guitarist and that there was tryouts that friday. so i went to tryouts and i really didnt even have to try out b/c there was only one other guitarist and we both were excepted. after the first week i was hooked on jazz music.

SharinganGirl i actually got into it one day when i walked into the class one morning going to practice and my teacher (in front of the class) asks me, "Would you like to play bari sax for the jazz band?" "Uhhh...sure...." "excellent see you at 6:45 tommorow morning" i actually didn't go then because i had an ortho and had to tell my parents about it but yeah i've been hooked on it since. i've gotten more into it this year, and i'm really starting to love it!
same exact thing happened to me.
in 5th grade my teacher said "hey ryan would u like to play bass for jazz band?"
and i was like "uhhh"
and he said "great practice is 5:30
lol somewhat the same thing happened with winter percussion
"Hey ryan I have a Reallllly big favor to ask you"
"mmm kay?"
"The guy who used to play bass for winter percussion left and your the only other person in school who can read bass music. can you join?"
and i was like
"....sure?"
... an invisible reality.
