Hey hey everyone! My name's Heather and I've been in guard for...oh, roughly 8 years now (I'm in a college band, such a difference!! 3nodding ) Anyways, I don't really have a favorite piece of equipment, well, not exactly....I like different things with different equipment. We just had a show earlier today (Exhibition for TOB championships...if anyone's interested) and I did pretty good. Since I'm in a college marching band, our show is a bit...longer...than your normal band show (7-9 minutes, if my mind is thinking right). Our show runs at least 45 minutes (I kid you not). It has an opener, majorette feature, guard feature, and a closer. I've seen a lot of people talking about horizontal tosses (on flag), has anyone tried a 45? The prep is a bit different for a 45, but the effect of the toss (When done by the entire guard fairly well) is amazing! Anyway, I'll get off my soap box for now sweatdrop ...GO GUARD!! whee heart

how dare you make me choose a favorite equipment, though it's probably sabre. it's all delicate and special and makes ya look tough razz . my favorite tosses are angularand one handed, and i've been able to catch almost every toss i've learned behind my back....much fun. now i feel all snobbish and braggy, so i will stop for now. sweatdrop

hehe, funny equipment touching type story... last year our school did summer school for the area and it let out while the guard was having a meeting and our rifles were laying out. some of the delinquent type ghetto guys (political correctness=bad, imo) tried to pick em up and fool around w/ them. they soon had 32 buff chicks yelling at them to put down the weapons or face dire consequences. they quickly put down the rifles and backed away slowly...good times.

Nintendo Punk 05 Hey, i'm not in guard but i have a question, how many of you are going out with a percussionist member, cuz it seems that guard girls usually go out with percussionists more and more, jus a question.... In my Guard most girls go out with trumpets, and the drumline at my school is immature or girls.

My bf is a percussionist. Yeah, I've noticed that. It's actually just any band members really, especially perscussion and brass. Prolly caus epercussion and brass are the sections with the most guys, but whatever.
Anyway, I came to the obvious conclusion a while ago: cheerleaders (generally) go with jocks, and guard girls, along with other band nerd girls (generally) go out with band nerd guys.

(I wish we were bigger sweatdrop ) we have a pretty big guard, 29 people (weird #), and i happy to have gotten my quint down this year (but trying to toss them while inside doesn't work too well sweatdrop )

We had 27 in colorguard this year. But now it's winterguard season! YAY! I don't know how many are gonna be on winterguard this year, not everyone's sure if they want to do it yet. I know I do. We'ver had two practices so far, and I love it! I learned how to spin a sabre! Apparently I'm good, according to my junior friend, but I'm not quite comfy with the awkward little thing yet. I still love my rifle.
