Iroka bowed low and apologized again, attempting to squeeze past him. "I truly am sorry," she repeated quickly, "I do not wish to offend anyone, I just have a bad sence of direction. I hope you will forgive me..." She looked up at him and his cold expression, something telling her that if he found out who she was and why she was here he'd either turn her in or kill her himself. "Forgive me..." she said once more, just for good measure, as she attempted to walk past him.

He raised his eyebrow at the girl, looking at her like she was behaving oddly, because she was. "Like I said, just watch where you're going, especially at night..." He made as if to walk on, but then stopped, realizing another peculiarity. He turned towards her again, peering at her. It was really late at night, now- hardly anyone was outside. What was...

"What are you doing out this late at night, for that matter?" he asked in an almost uncaring voice, though it was obvious he expected her to stop and respond.

((@.@ Gahh.. I keep slowing everything down...))

The Desert runist remained quiet, smirking slightly behind her black scarves as she rested one palm against the end of her sword's hilt out at her side.

Jamie was ready to leave though, and after listening to Celestra speak, she ended up turning her blonde head first towards the door, and then towards the window. For some reason, she felt the need to ask whether they were leaving from the stairs or were going to climb out.

Iro stopped short, praying she hadn't heard the question that she just had. She turned slowly and looked at him, square in the gray eyes. "Pardon me, sir, but my reason to be walking these streets is no concern of yours, am I correct? Unless you happen to be a keeper of the temple of some sort I owe you no explanation." She attempted to look sure of herself, but she was sure her nervousness was showing clearly, even in the dark. Please let him walk away, she pleaded, Please let him just turn and walk away...

"Would you like me to get the robes out and put them on for you?" He said. It was an outrageous thing to say, given that they weren't really supposed to be out and about without their uniform robes on like this, but there was no trace of doubt or uncertainty of what he said in his eyes. The light dancing about him flared a bit, and flickered, twisting in a small display.

Iroka looked slightly startled at his response. "So you're one of the keepers then?" she asked, already knowing the answer. She silently wished that he'd loose interest in his interrigation, because the fact that he was a keeper automatically made it impossible for her not to answer his questions.

"A keeper, I guess you could say," he said, stretching and leaning back a bit in a way which made him look down on her in a way, before he brought himself back up stright again. "An acolyte is more accurate."

He didn't mention his father. That would be mean, and he didn't enjoy being his son, anyways.

"An acolyte..." she said, more to herself than anything else. She considered her desperate position and suddenly a grand but somewhat pathetic plan occured to her. "You're an acolyte!" she said again, louder this time. When she recieved a blank look she continued, "That means you can help me!" She grabbed his hand, completely aware that it was un-called-for, and looked him in the eyes again, "Please," she begged, "help me."

"An echo!" he responded in a mocking voice to her repeating "an acolyte".

"And what do you want me to help you with?" Ryushi asked in an arrogant and annoyed manner. "Why should I, for that matter?" he added aggressively, pulling his hand away from hers with a rough jerk.

Her eyes fell when she heard his responce and she let go of his hand. "I never should have asked," she whispered, "Forgive me for intruding on your uneventful life as an acolyte. I'm sure your family would be proud that you refused to help a teenage girl who's life is on the line."

"I'm sure they would," he said with a new expression in his voice this time- bitterness- as he stepped backwards once. Her words touched a chord in him, but it wasn't the right one to touch if she wanted anything from him. "Just like they'll appreciate me walking out at night, out of uniform, out of the temple."

"You sound as if you have nothing to regret." she said to him shortly. "Look, I'm sorry for having bumped into you at all. I'm sorry for having disrupted your evening stroll, and I'm sorry for having asked for your help!" she almost yelled the end of this at him. "And," she continued, calmer, softer, "I'll go off into the night and find someone else to help, and if that doesn't work, I go to my death."

A few pieces of the puzzle snapped into place with her words.

"If that involves dying out on my doorstep, I'll have to stop you," he snapped. "And either way, I'll have to ask you not to stop yelling."

While he accepted that he was going to get caught and punished in the most likely sense, he would rather not happen now, and certainly not in this way.

She blinked at him. "Did 'I'll have to stop you' translate somehow into 'I'll help you'? Or am I just making inferences?" she asked, confused by his words. His attitude had changed somehow. The arrogance was still there, as was the sarcasm, but something seemed different, softer, somehow.

The spark faded away. He needed the mana in it to do something else, and it'd be best if they weren't so easy to spot. The air around him shifted, muffling their voices to the point where they were the only ones who could hear each other clearly. They weren't inaudible, just ununderstandable to anyone else until they walked closer.

"You never answered my question, either way," he said with a hard face. "What do you need help with, and why should I help you?"

"And it'll be me interfering if this does have to do anything with the temple," he said. Whether he'd help or stop her was the question, now.
