Jace stared at him blankly. "Then, let them leave. I don't care. As long as you stay safe. They can deal with it, or they can get lost." He snorted, obviously just trying to distract from Xander's needling.
He caved after only a few seconds and said, "All right, yes. Get me some. I don't know how much it'll help with writing my paper, but. I'll be glad to be done with it." He had a spark back in him, all the drive he needed to tackle the project and finish it, and then get started on his mother's projects. "You can keep me company when I'm done. If you want. If you're bored. At least until Nelson gets his phone back. Q is supposed to let me know what's going on with that, so I'll let you know when I do."

“I will even get you that odd purple bubble tea you like.” Xander said with a grin. “And mochi, I’ll add mochi to the deal so we can eat it while I keep you company and you keep me sane.” He gave a thumbs up. “And… I will chill with you even after Nelson gets his phone back. I can multitask! mostly… sometimes.” He grinned. “Not as well as you can but, I’m working on it.” He put on his most ‘serious puppy dog’ look and nodded earnestly that he was in fact -actually- trying. Something he was often accused of not doing because even when he -was- trying sometimes he looked more distracted than not.

Jace didn't have the heart to scoff at his brother or push him away; instead, he just cracked a little smile. "All right, fine. Maybe I'll work better if I can bounce ideas off of you. You can tell me if something sounds stupid."
He was quickly growing fond of this idea and nodded, like he needed to affirm that it was a good idea.
He knew that they'd be back before too long, and while he wasn't looking forward to working, he was looking forward to being done.
Which meant, he didn't have long before he had to go back to being the version of him his mother wanted to see. She wasn't here, yet, so he turned to look at his brother. He looked serious again, because he wasn't capable of softening his expression when he had something important to say--especially when it was something soft.
"Thank you, Xander. I owe you."

There was always something startled and unguarded in Xander’s eyes when they had these moments of softness. Something that said he knew they both had it in them, that he trusted it existed but he still never expected it. He shook his head after a moment.
“Naw man, You don’t owe me, I’d give anything for you… you’re my brother in all but blood.”

Jace watched him and just shrugged, but that wasn't something he intended to dismiss so quickly. He didn't hesitated to admit, "Yeah, well. Same goes for you."
