Hit Points: 5/7 || Magic Used: (Choose one: Giftless - 0/0 ) ___________________ Following trail & Sweetpea Havoc huffed as he caught his breath, glad they had subdued the beast and the fight appeared to be over. Not that he trusted it, that thing looked like nothing but big trouble. His flank twitched as he was reminded of the sting of his new wounds. Fighting was clearly not his strength, and that had been so many of them against ONE. He really hoped the others ahead weren't facing more of them alone... His thought was interrupted by the pink doe speaking to him and he perked his ears turning to her. "Yeah, sure I will, I agree we need to find them." The buck nodded, glad she seemed to have the same thought he had just been worrying about. He glanced at the others. It made him nervous to leave the beast just laying there, not dead, but the other buck was questioning it and seemed to be in control. Also, the pink doe totally had asked him specifically to come along for moral support, he wasn't passing that up. He puffed his chest a little and quit limping like a baby as he followed after her.

Hit Points: 6/7 || Magic Used: Apprentice: 1/1 questioning the beast___________________ Cattleya panted as the adrenaline caught up to her. The beast was surrounded, struggling now, and the doe... Cattleya went through the information carefully in her mind, though it was hard to do so clinically. Somehow the exploits of Homewood's leaders seemed less dangerous in the abstract; this doe had just said - wait - took? " What - what do you mean by took?" she asked, still feeling a little shocked. This beast truly was fierce. She gave a little nod to Specterdust as she left, and came up behind the big blue botanic adept to peer at the beast. Perhaps playing his kinder counterpart could do her some good here. " I don't know what it's been like for you - but - but clearly you know we're intelligent life." Did it have memories, from before the Others? Had it just been panicking, when the other nouls had been killed, if this doe's brother had been taken rather than killed - or was that just an error in the doe's speech? " To be honest, there isn't much intelligent life left on Vykeli. We've all been doing our best in the pursuit of bringing older species back, but the Others have devastated the planet, and our lack of teeth doesn't mean we're not dangerous, too. I don't think being antagonistic is in your best interest. What were you planning? And - where were you trying to go?" They must've been attempting to chase the nouls who'd resurrected them somewhere, right?

She wanted to know if the rat had known something, but she left the chasing to the others. She was on the look out for anyone else whom might join them. Coming up along side Nereida and Owlheart she glanced down at the rat. "Sorry to have scared you, but a tragedy has occurred. Were were wondering if you knew something about it. Or had seen something, Six Nouls like ourselves have been seen with a pack of strange new creature. Haven't stumbled upon anything like them, have you?"

At the River The trail continues deeper into the forest until Cinder and Indira are battling their way through thick curtains of moss and tightly packed young trees to continue forward. Branches overhand the river and turn the clear water green with vibrant reflection. Up ahead murmurs the sound of water rushing over rocks. The river runs just a little faster here. The does push their way through the foliage and find themselves standing at the banks of a lake, with a small waterfall roaring at the far side. All traces of blood or footsteps are gone, swallowed by the water. A group of large, black rocks dam up the mouth of the river, allowing it to exit at a trickle instead of a rush, which kept the river itself fairly calm. The lake is clear, but deep, and fish swim and swirl around the edges in flashes of gold and silver. Quote: The trail has gone cold! What do you do? Hunt for clues with 2d6 + WIT! The Dire Rat The rat narrows its beady eyes at Nereida, whispers twitching and fingers dawdling against its fur. Finally, it answers. “Yes. A few of them. I hid while they passed, but they went that way.” The rat points up the river, to the left. The rat snapped its gaze to Owlheart. “I’m seeing large scary beasts right now!” Its whiskers twiddled again and it eyed the river. “I might have seen something else big and beastie, that I’d never seen before, but I didn’t stop to chat.” It pauses, considering, then adds,” The Big Rat talked to them for a while. He lives in a Nice Nest down the woods a way. If you have something worth his time, he might talk to you. Maybe.” It certainly doesn’t seem interested in answering questions! “I try not to stumble on anything,” the rat snapped at Fawn,” But I’ve been stumbled on. Those big old beasties were with the nouls I saw, going up the river that way.” Again, it points left. It eyes the three noulicorns then in a flash it leaps into the air and takes off between their legs, dashing back into the bushes. That was certainly an unfriendly rat! Quote: Do you head up the river in search of the nouls and the beasts? OR Go looking for the Big Rat to gather more information? No need to roll this round! Battling the Beast “Know?” the beast growled at Dryxel. “I don’t know anything. I was nothing but good bones and then the world came crashing into me and I was hungry. Hungry and surrounded by plump, soft things and others of my kind. So we… ate. As many as we could and still my belly screams for more food. That’s what I know.” It laughs, a terrible, dark noise. “But some of us had our bellies filled enough that our brains were thinking. Some of you had magic and it hurt us and if there were many of you, we might go back to the nothing place. So we took some tasty morsels for later and we left to find somewhere to hide. “One tidbit,” the beast snaps its eyes to the grey and white doe. “Ran off, and I was chosen to hunt her down.” The beast drags its eyes lazily to Cattleya and grins. “ Took.. We herded the ones we didn’t eat between us. They didn’t like the snap of our teeth. Some of you could fly, though, and we needed to stop that. Snap, snap the pretty feathers. It pauses, considering something, it’s eyes darting between the remaining noulicorns. It sucks in a deep, rattling breath. With shaking legs it attempts to drag itself upright, but it’s badly injured, bleeding from gashes and gouges with an obvious limp in one foreleg. “Is that what I am?” it says. “An older species? Something resurrected? I’m so hungry…” It lifts its maw and sniffs. “I lost my pack, but I can smell them, pretty morsels. I could… bring you to them… if you don’t kill me…” The beast continues to grin, bloody teeth and all. Quote: Do you trust the beast and let it lead you? OR Tie it up somehow and leave it behind? No need to roll for this round! Down the Trail Specterdust, Sweetpea, and Havoc leave the beast where it lays and find their way back to the trail of tracks leading down the hill. Eventually, they come to a quiet river where the beasts’ tracks stop. There are three sets of noulicorn tracks heading to the right and two sets going to the left. Quote: Do you choose to head left OR rightOR Do you search for additional clues with 2d6 + WIT?

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Adept: 1/2 Searching for clue & using infrared___________________ Indira shoved through another mossy curtain. She gritted her teeth. The river banks had become so thick with greenery she wasn't sure she'd see anything of value if it was literally right in front of her nose. Another shove, and she emerged. No longer was it a river, but a lake. The beasts simply had to have gone somewhere. They could not have vanished. Indira just wouldn't accept it. As she cast her eyes around, she wondered how she'd see anything worth seeing in this thick greenery. And then she remembered. Grandfather Tree had given her gifts, and they were meant to be used. She reached inside of herself and firmly seized the magic, pulling it forth. Suddenly her vision changed. No longer was everything the green of trees and the blue of the lake, instead it lit up in infrared. If anything was going to allow her to see noulicorns in all of these trees, this was it. She thanked Grandfather Tree silently. She kept her voice at little more than a whisper. "I'm trying to scan the area with my gift from Grandfather Tree. To see if there are signs of them out there." Best to keep her companion informed, lest Cinder think she was just staring out into the woods, doing nothing of use.

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Apprentice: 1/1 ___________________ Look for cluesAs the river widened with no sign of more clues, Cinder tried not to wonder if she should have gone after that possibly-hurt rat earlier. But... no use dwelling on the past. She shook her head, drawing up next to Indira, who seemed to have had a rather brilliant idea. "That's fantastic," Cinder answered, ears perking up as she watched Indira scan the surrounding area. Her own gifts were not nearly as useful in a search, and she dropped her head to search the ground for signs they might have missed.

Hit Points: 6/7 || Magic Used: Adept: 1/2 Not trusting the beast but letting it lead us to save the captured nouls.Rolled: + = ___________________ Dryxels took the information the beast gave and knew the next diction was a life and death type choice. Sage, who had landed back on Dryxel voiced his thoughts "I say we tie the creature to a tree and left Vykeli decide his fate." Dryxel first instinct was the same but something in him said maybe there was another way. Glaring at the beast he knew they could not trust this creature at all. By its own admition it was still very very hungry and it clearly did not trust the noulicorn kind. But they might not have much time before the other beasts decide the captured noul looked like there next easy meal. With a grumble Dryxel kicked the ground. Yes this would be a lose lose situation in so many ways. Dryxels gut knew it was a trap but maybe because he knew that he could be ready. After all the Great Tree had given him gifts for things just like this. "Ok this is vote type thing but I say was tie the creature up so we can control it and let him lead us to the captured nouls. We have to save them." His body shock at the idea of meeting more of this creatures but he knew that in the end they could not let another die knowing that if they tried they might be able to save them.

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Adept: 1/2 ___________________ Specterdust’s ears flicked back and she turned her head enough to see behind her. It looked like two of the others also decided to continue on and leave the beast to be questioned. She supposed the other doe and buck stayed behind to question them. Her spidey senses tingled a bit and she felt unease and a need to turn back, however she knew that the rest of their group was down here and so was possibly the other nouls. Instead she decided to call back to the two younger nouls. “You guys look like you could use a vivify. The beast really got you two good.”Reaching the river, Specterdust pursed her lips and looked at the tracks leading away on both side. “What the dickens…. Did the group split up even more?” Specterdust sighed. “Well this is going to make things more difficult.” After a moment and a glance at the other two she decided to go left and it seemed like those two would stick together. “I’m going to head left, only two tracks this way,” she mentioned to Havoc and Sweetpea. Hit Points: 6/7 || Magic Used: Apprentice: 1/1 tie up the beast but find the rest of the party first___________________ Cattleya frowned. Everyone else had moved on, so there were just a few of them to hear these words. They were informative - the other nouls were still alive, for now - but if she connected the dots...it'd be a lot easier for these beasts to hurt nouls who were stuck on the ground. " I'm less worried about this one," Cattleya said. They were struggling to stand, for one thing. " Only - there's only two of us, and it took more than two to handle this one. If we go seeking the rest of the beasts, I'd much rather there be more of us in good health." Well - Cat wasn't exactly in good health, and she hadn't been nearly as admirable in the fight as Dryxel had, but she was probably better off than nouls who'd been caught off guard by these beasts. " I agree we should tie them up - but if we're taking them with us, we should reunite with our party before we make our way over to the rest of the beasts." She paused; she also didn't particularly want to carry the beast, if it was going to be her, Dryxel, and this doe. He was larger, and armored but the beast would still be dead weight. She turned to the beast with a frown. She kept her tone firm, but not necessarily cruel. " As far as we know - we can't truly look into the past - you and your pack are now the only living specimen of...some older species. But it's noulicorns who can bring you back, and we wouldn't be very motivated to do that if you ate us." She was bluffing, a little: she knew it was frowned upon to resurrect nouls, after all. Some people thought returning Vykeli to its former state was a noulicorn's only job. Cattleya didn't see a point in healing Vykeli without leaving a place for herself, though. She was a part of it, too, after all.

Hit Points: 5/7 || Magic Used: (Choose one: Giftless - 0/0 ) ___________________ looking for clues Havoc walked with the does doing his best not to limp and look brave and stuff. If he focused on their surroundings and not getting eaten it was easier to not worry about a few scratches. He perked his ears when the gray doe spoke to them. "Oh uh.. yeah uh it's just scratches I think...." No way was he admitting they hurt or bothered him. They had come to the river and he realized the prints had ended, he hadn't even been looking that closely at them in his worry to keep it cool. woops. "Uhh wait...the beasts... where did the tracks go?" He asked aloud as he looked around feeling dumb. They must have gone into the river. But there were little doe tracks all over, some going left, some going right. What in the world had the rest of the party been up to here? "They split up I think, maybe to find the trail again?" He looked at the tracks then around the edges of the river, trying to puzzle out what direction to take. The other doe chose a direction and started off, telling them she was going. He thought they should try to stick together, but nodded and went back to looking around for anything that might help the search. ((Rip sorry for the edits didnt see snows post))

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Apprentice: 1/1 seeking the Big Rat
___________________ Nereida watched as the rat provided information then scurried away. This particular creature had been "less than friendly" in her eyes. Back in Homewood, she'd seen a few from the rescue party which was sweet and very communicative. Indra was certainly right about this one, It was rather "unpleasant". So, now she was st a standstill pondering which path to take in her internal river which flowed several ways. Her vision had stated if they go left they'd reach am impasse which would greet them with boulders and roots. If they sought out this "Big Rat" they'd be going even further down the woods but certainly have a chance to "learn more information" if the larger rat would reveal what he knew. Otherwise, they were just in a position to go back and face the music Indra mentioned they were foolish of.
What to do...
She stood there, eyes glossed over in thought before she returned to the reality around her.
"Its a shot in the dark but, I'm going to seek out this "Big Rat". She stated hoping the other two does would see the same strategy. "My water ability told me if we followed the path the others took they'd meet a dead end because of the boulders and roots. If we find this rather large rat it might actually have knowledge of these creatures and their intentions. Maybe, even know a way around the impasse the others probably are facing."
Swiveling her ears she looked directly at the other two with a calm expression, "I probably sound crazy, but I think it might be a way to find more information".
Hoping they'd stay on this crazy thought process she awaited their answers before the next leg of the journey.Nereida WC: 292

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Giftless - 0/0 ___________________ Owlheart listened carefully when the dire rat answered their questions, her ears flattening when she (and the other two does) were accusing of being big scary creatures but....she supposed chasing the rat had been pretty scary for the slightly smaller creature, especially since it HAD seen the other beasts, it made sense to run, rather than wait and hope her party had been friendly. She definitely didn't blame the rat for not wanting to talk to the beasts. She was curious about it's answer to her own questions, 'they' had stopped to chat with a big rat? .. who was they? the beasts? the other nouls? she'd have asked further but while she and the others were distracted, it escaped. Damn... She had been about to turn towards the direction the rat said the beasts had taken the nouls when Nedeira spoke up. "You're right, of course, your gifts were very useful, We need to save our fellows but.... information is also crucial, we know nothing about these new creatures but i wonder WHO that big rat was talking to, the other rat didn't mention if it was the beasts that talked to 'big rat in nice nest' or our missing Noulicorns" She sighed, this was a hard choice "I'm going to come with you Nereida, it seems like the beasts are keen on keeping the others alive for now" she didn't want to mention they were probably reserving the meal "They're intelligent enough to take hostages and herd a group of noulicorns along wherever they're going, so knowing more is probably our best choice for the moment" "Now we just need to figure out what would be a suitable token worth this 'big rat's' time" she tried to think what dire rats valued most but like noulicorns, they were all different, it was hard to think like a non noulicorn, she mused over this while she and Nedeira waited on their other companion's decision

She was limping lightly, but trying not to focus on it so that they could actually find the nouls. When the other doe pointed out her injuries, though, she looked down at her beat up leg and pouted. "I knew this would be dangerous, but I didn't think I'd get hurt too bad. Do you think it will scar?" Oh no. What if it left a huge ugly scar? She barely managed to stop a disappointed wail from escaping her. She needed to focus on something else. Havoc had already started to piece together what had happened, and the other doe was moving on. "I want to make sure we take the right path. You be safe though! Yell if something happens!" She turned back to Havoc and circled around him, trying to find the strongest path and any hint of the predator foot prints that would have been chasing the other nouls. They couldn't have gone INTO the river, could they? "How well do you think those nasty things swim?" She asked Havoc.

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: 2/2 Seeking the Big Rat!___________________ Fawn glanced in the direction that the previous rat had showed. That was the direction that the beasts had taken the Nouls, she frowned before looking towards the others. Seems they were thinking of going and gather more information from this other rat that had been brought up. There was just the idea of a gift... Fawn and Talltale didn't have much on them. Seeds that she had meant to sprout in her garden, but had brought them along as she was out and about when all this happened. "I have seeds of various plants, but that is about it.." Fawn said as she glanced back towards Talltale whom had crawled out of the saddlebag and was riffling through the other one. "I am sure we will think of something, or maybe this Big rat will have a task that one or all of us can do for them?"It was an idea at the very least. She was good with plants and this 'nice nest' could perhaps use something else? It was hard to say, so far she was feeling the most useless even having all the magic she possessed. Talltale sat up on Fawn's back and seemed to hold something. Almost diamond like seeds ones that were starting to get more plentiful in Homewood. Heytheria seeds.
