Just as you think you've made your way out of the worst of the forest, a series of ominous howls close by assures you that you definitely have not seen the worst. It doesn't take long for the wolves to appear from within the shadows. Golden eyes and snarling fangs begin the chase - whether they're going after your poor horse or after you is still yet to be determined.

Let's just hope your horse still has some energy left in him to get you out of this bind.

1-3: Leaning over, you decide the best course of action is to toss out any unnecessary items to help lighten the load. While it was a good idea in theory, one especially hungry wolf decides that your flailing hand is the perfect target for its next meal. You're able to draw back your hand quick enough but not fast enough not to get a pretty nasty bite -- oh no!!!

Zachary swore when--in spite of his best efforts--Vanessa managed to get hit with a branch anyway. "Van! Just--hold still, I'll take care of this, okay?" He folded his share of the blankets over her for protection, then leaned forward to try and grab at the reins again, only to get stopped by the ominous sounds of howling in the distance. His eyes widened when the wolves approached, but determined to keep them out of the cart and away from Vanessa, he swatted down towards the mangy creatures--and for his efforts, one of the wolves bit down on his hand before he could flail ********, he pulled himself back into the cart, shielding his wounded hand.

Pulling the provided blanket onto your lap, it's time for your ride to begin!

…… or it would be, but your driver is quickly dismounting from his seat, apologizing profusely as he feels the need to visit the restroom prior to leaving. Ah, well, a few minutes wait won't hurt, right?

Your horse seems to think otherwise, though, as not seconds after the driver reaches for the horse's reins to tie them up, the stallion seems to be spooked by something that no one else sees. With a terrified whinny, he rears up and begins a sprint - carrying you behind in tow!

It looks like your adventure is beginning - but without a driver!

4-6: The start of your ride has proven to be far more bumpy than you intended. You grab on to whatever you can as the cart lurches forward and to the side, tossing you around. Hopefully you don't get motion sickness very easily...

Cynthia quietly settled herself into the carriage, let out a sigh, and then turned to her riding companion. "I'm all right. Butt is a little sore right now though and of course I'm a bit wet, but I didn't hurt anything too badly. It was an embarrassing fall though!" She said, embarrassing laughter following. She tried to lighten the mood by introducing herself. "I'm Cynthia. I haven't ever been on a carriage ride before, so I'm hoping this will be nice, or at least a way to get some good pictures!" She said, taking out her camera and showing it to the other.

Just as she showed it, the driver descended from the carriage for... well Cynthia wished that he didn't have to get out, but bladders waited for no one!

The horse however seemed to sense it's freedom as soon as the driver got out however, as it then immediately reared up and went into a full on sprint! Cynthia yelped as she suddenly had to use one hand to keep herself from falling out of the carriage, and the other to keep a grip onto her camera!

She turned to the other girl and yelled out over the wind. "This isn't what I had in mind!" As she tried desperately to get the camera back into her bag and closed so that it couldn't fall out. Wasn't there supposed to be some other way to secure the horses so that they didn't do this sort of thing?! No wonder people said carriage rides were dangerous!

All Cynthia could do though, as soon as she had put her camera away, was to hold onto the railing as tightly as she could, hoping that it would soon be over, or perhaps one of them would be able to calm the horse down! She didn't want to risk climbing over to the front of the carriage though!

Van's points are 6 + 3 + 2 + 8

This was ******** ridiculous -- the howling lifted the hairs on the back of Vanessa's head. She gritted her teeth against the pain in her head, heart thudding for Zach and his injury. She couldn't let him fight them off alone, and shifted onto her knees, grappling for anything to beat them off with. And then, somehow, suddenly, there was a branch in her hand - solid, strong. Vanessa swung to protect Zach, and the snowman that he'd won for her and grunted with satisfaction when the wood struck one of the wolves and sent it whimpering away.

Quote:
The wolves seem to fall back and you're grateful for whatever reason they decided to abandon their hunt... until you glance back towards the front of the carriage and see the choppy water of the cold, rushing river ahead of you. Your horse doesn't seem to think about the potential of drowning as it drags you and your vehicle into the water, splashing as he tromps his way forward.

Time to decide whether or not you're going to sink or swim!

1-3: You hold your breath with the impending fear of being swept away by the current as the water overtakes the carriage. In your worry of being pushed out by the water, you don't actually think about how long you've been holding your breath and before you know it, you (choose):

Grow faint and dizzy. In a few more seconds, you're passing out onto the floor of the carriage.

Manage to exhale but an extremely floppy trout comes sailing out of the water and smacks you on the side of the head, knocking you out cold.

Either way, you fail to wake up until the carriage reaches the other side of the river.

Zachary looked up at Vanessa and the stunning warrior princess she was, too awestruck to feel like a loser with his lame hand. "I think you scared them off--" he started, only to yelp at the bite of cold water, rising into the carriage. He started to reach for Van, trying to think of some way to keep her dry--

--And then a fish leaped from the river, knocking him square in the jaw. Zachary slumped into the bed of the carriage.

Van's points are 6 + 3 + 2 + 8 + 9

--

It was just one thing after another - a rogue horse, the forest, the wolves and now, a river, but the carriage tilted in a way that meant Zach took on most of the water. The fish was almost comical, except that it knocked Zach unconscious. Vanessa swore again and wrapped her arms around him to hold him the cart.

Her henshin pen was tucked into her sock, but she didn't dare reach for it, scared that Zach would fall out into the river if she let go of him for even a moment.

As the stallion leaves the river and climbs his way back up onto the banks, he seems to finally be tuckered out from all of the excitement and exercise. Although his trot is significantly slower, the animal seems to know where it's going and soon you're approaching a small field with an array of flowers - an odd sight to see in the middle of winter but it's there, nevertheless.

As the beast comes to a halt to begin munching on a few of the colorful flowers, a small, sparkly burst of color zips by your head and for a second, you wonder if your tired mind is playing tricks on you.

7-10: More small balls of light whiz by your head as you sit in the now-still cart. They look like fireflies but larger; it's hard to get a good look at them with the way they're bouncing around but it's fascinating to watch all the same.

Zachary was first aware of the feeling of warm arms around him, and was led back to his senses by Vanessa's sturdy hold. "...was that a fish?" He drawled, his good hand weakly grasping at her arm to keep him steady, and his bleary eyes blinked open just in time for a light show to start, little motes of glow that bounced between the flowers of whatever field they'd ended up in. He looked from them to Van.

"...Did we die?"

Prompt 2

"I'm glad you're ok. I can see how it would be embarrassing but given the conditions of the ground I'm not surprised. I'm sure a lot of people have slipped and some fallen." She was of of it in fact, it made sense. "Genevieve, it's nice to meet you. Let's hope this ride is a good one." Smiling bright. "I'm hoping for good pictures also! I saw some lovely ones posted online." Which was why she had her phone in hand, ready to take lots of pictures. She didn't own any other camera, sadly, maybe for Christmas she'd get one.

Watching their driver get down and head for the bathroom, he hoped he hurried, she understood the need to go. When it happened it happened...there was no use trying to hold it. Plus he had to have been at this for how long?

The horse thhough seemed to have decided to take them on their trip all on his own...and it was going to be a wild one. Holding on, assuming it would be a bit bumppy, she wasn't ready for the wind to blow her hair about her face. She was sure it looked lovely, like something you'd see in a modeling shoot, but righht now she was a bit focused on the horse going on it's own. She had a blanket about her lap which she kept in place, tucking it under her legs, she was not about to lose one of the few warm things here - nope!

"I don't like this so much!" She called out to the other. "Hold on tight!" Hopefully something would stop the horse, the sooner the better.

Did we die?'

Vanessa pursed her lips at Zach's question, the giggle in her head vanishing at the same time. Was it actually laughter that she heard, or just the result of two hard knocks to the head?

"No," she said softly, helping him back to his seat, "but - almost, I think."

For all that she was sore, her heart roared still with the adrenaline of their ride.

What a date.

A nearby carriage arrives, apparently having witnessed your dunk into the treacherous river. The worried looking driver hops down from his cart and quickly takes your horse's reins, securing it before assisting you down from your ride. The riders on his carriage scoot over to allow you room to join them. In about ten minutes, you're returned back to the clearing where you started at - your adventure is now over. You may want to reconsider, the next time you want to take a carriage ride out into the woods!

9 + 3 + 8 + 4 + 8 + 4 = 36

Salvation arrived in the form of another carriage, whose driver certainly didn't expect to find a pair of cats as the sole passengers. Nonetheless, Etoile and Bernard were allowed to board, the little kitten even managing to be doted upon by one of the passengers on the other carriage.

The Mauvians were, unfortunately, unable to talk to each other during the duration of the ride, not when the humans could overhear them, but after they disembarked, once they returned to the clearing, Etoile turned to face Bernard. "Oh, yes, I would very much like if you could escort me back," she told him, just in case anything else happened along the way. She usually was okay going home by herself, but after the events of earlier, well...

In any case, Etoile told him her address, or Alise's address, really, and they were on their way to where the kitten lived. Once they arrived, she sat on the doorstep, and waved goodbye to the larger Mauvian. "Au revoir! I do hope we meet again," she told him, and with that, she headed indoors, via Alise's bedroom window, which the teen had left unlocked (and partially open) for the Mauvian to go in and out of.

The carriage heads straight for the dense forest in front of you, the poor stallion still running at top notch speed away from.. well, whatever initially spooked the beast. As the vehicle lurches and rocks from side to side, you find that there's an even more ominous threat laying straight ahead of you.

Rather -- right at eye level with you!

Branches loom in the air like spindly, gnarled fingers reaching for you and you'll have to utilize your best dodging skills to avoid getting smacked (or worse!)

4-6: Ducking and dodging comes pretty easily for you. While you still get nicked and scraped a bit from the smaller, harder to see branches, you manage to come out of the forest fairly intact.

Cynthia wanted to say, "You don't have to tell me twice!" In a nice way, not a "Thanks Captain Obvious!" way, but she didn't get to say anything. They were now in the woods, completely off the carriage path, she assumed, since she didn't see any tracks that would have showed other carriages having gone this way.

She was about to say something to her companion, when she noticed branches! Well she certainly noticed it after she mostly dodged one, only getting nicked in the face a bit. "This is definitely not the way we should be going! I'm never getting on a carriage ride again!" She knew that horses were hard to handle when spooked, all animals were, but this was dangerous!

Seeing the branches, it seemed at the same time the other did, Genevieve started to duck things - and was good at it. Turning to the other she nodded her head. "I agree. As lovely as this looked - it's not so lovely!" The fact they were in the woods ducking branches felt a bit like some sort of video game...but in real life.

Before she could say more a large, log like, branch slammed into the side of her face. Crying out in pain as she landed on the floor of the carriage the dark haired woman lay there with her head lifting a bit, the side of her face bloodied and a bruise already forming. It was not going to look pretty - not one bit. Ohhhh this was not going to look pretty, she could feel that now. She didn't even need to see her face to know it looked ugly. It throbbed and it hurt and stung and she wanted to pick herself up but the idea was also somewhat terrifying to be honest. "Maybe down here is a good idea..."

4-6: Grabbing your shoe from off your foot (or your partner's, if it's easier to access), you promptly smack the closest wolf on the snout with the rubber sole. It lets out a sorrowful cry, its mate quick to the rescue by snatching the shoe from out of your hand. You managed to scare at least two of them off but at the cost of your footwear. Congrats....?

Cynthia gasped and immediately went to check on her carriage companion. She got into the bottom of the cage and looked at the others face. It was... well they might need to go get some stitches. Before she could say anything though, she heard howling. "Seriously?! Wolves don't even attack people that much! What is going on here!" It was something like out of a movie!

And they were suddenly surrounded! One of the wolves snapped at Cynthia and she she took one of her boots, and used it to smack the wolf! A direct hit!

Unfortunately she didn't pull the boot back in time, and it was yanked out of her hand by the other. "S***!" She said, really trying to think of what to do now. If only she could turn into a senshi! Though she supposed hitting animals would be a no-no, but this would be in self-defense!

You may each take your pick of one of the following holiday IC RP items:

Quote:
Snowball Pendant - A round, white gemstone that resembles a perfect snowball and glistens in the slightest light
The snowball pendant hangs from a glistening silver chain. You can easily detach it and hurl it at something or someone to encase them in a thick layer of ice for up to three minutes. The ice is chilly to the touch but isn't cold enough to do any damage, and if used on a human or living target will only encase them from the neck down. This can only be used while in civilian form and cannot be used while the wearer is powered up but it can be used against any opponent your civilian is facing. Once the five minutes is up, the ice melts and disappears in a magical breeze, only for the pendant to return to the chain. It is still beautiful, however no longer has any magical properties and will function as a normal crystal pendant if thrown again. It might not have any magic, but it's a nice memento!

Snowglobe - A magical snowglobe of a strange, unfamiliar town.
Shaking the snowglobe transports you and up to one other person of your choosing into a magical realm that looks strangely like the unfamiliar town. You can leave if you like, but this is a one time visit that should last no longer than 12 hours. All of the homes in the town are open/free to explore, but you cannot take anything that you find in this realm home with you and there doesn't seem to be anyone here when you arrive. There's something immensely therapeutic about the snowy realm; you find peace and quiet wherever you go and when you come out no time has passed in the real world. This could be such a great way to accomplish tasks if you could take them with you, but try as you may you cannot return to the snow world after the first trip. You can keep the snowglobe as a reminder, however!

Snuggly Scarf - A magical scarf that makes you feel warm and whole.
Wearing this scarf brings insurmountable level of comfort and reassurance and gives you the boost you need 'to get through anything'. It feels like you have all the luck and support on your side, and if you happen to snuggle it up close to your ears you hear the comforting words of someone you care for, living or dead, whispering soft reassurances. This magic lasts for only a day and only affects one person. After twenty-four hours has passed all that remains is a normal, every day, snuggly scarf.

Memory Chest An empty, decorative chest.
This chest, upon first glance, is empty. It would be a great place to store linens or keepsakes, and maybe that's what someone used it for at one point. The next time you open the chest after taking it home you find an item that was once lost. It could be something of yours, or something once belonging to someone else-- nothing stolen, of course, but something that you thought was lost forever. This something should not be alive, but it can be something that you thought (or were certain) was destroyed, only to now be returned to you in good condition. Afterwards the chest is merely an empty, decorative chest once more-- and hey, you've got your item too!
