Duskwing's head was a whirlwind, from being left in charge to Skysong becoming Sunsong, to Goldenleaf becoming deputy. It was all far too much to take in, but she did know that Goldenleaf was always a loyal cat so she trusted Sunsong's judgement. When the apprentices were called forth she smiled at the excited chatter from her apprentice. It was the start of a naming ceremony. The four were getting their warrior names. She sighed as she watched the young warriors and medicine cat to be made their way towards the newly Sunclan named leader.
She looked at Dustfeather and smiled at him. "A crow's hop." She was so proud of the little cat for shining in these dark times and keeping Littlepaw company. She leaned against Dustfeather. "Your little chick left the nest. Her parents must be so proud of her and her sisters." she was happy that the little warriors could come in to their own with their new names. Her thoughts drifted back to Sunseer. "I hope Sunseer and Morningsky can see their little chick now." she quietly said, then she shook her head to clear her thoughts. Deadeye wasn't shocked that sunclan had visited the newly dubbed Sunsong and given her a new name. She could remember when Sunseer had announced his leader name. "Nine lives?" she spoke softly unsure if she heard right. How could a cat have more than one life? it didn't make any sense to her. When Sunsong spoke to Goldenleaf to be the deputy she tilted head to the side. A heavily pregnant she-cat as the deputy. She wasn't too sure of the thought, but it was in Sunclan's paws. When the assistants were called she was even more unsure. She had been watching closely and had noticed Bloodoath's ambitions early on. He had seemed off-put by Sunseer when he named Sunsong as deputy and she had caught a fleeting glimpse of jealousy on his face, for one worrying moment, when he was passed over for the mother of his kittens. "I worry that we might be inviting more trouble with this." she muttered under her breath. She shook her head and found herself watching both Bloodoath and Lilacmoon's reactions to being named deputy helpers.
When the apprentice's names were called she smiled at the four. Three new warriors and a new Medicine cat. Her eye tracked Littlepaw as she moved up towards Sunsong. The little she-cat was looking much better after some rest. She hoped the change in title would ease her mind some. Lilacmoon had come closer upon Skysongs approach. She heard Skysong say her new name and she blinked. Sunclan could reach them out here? She had a pause in thought. Nine lives? it didn't make any sense, but if Sunclan told her so then it must be true.
Hearing that Goldenleaf was to be the new deputy made her smile. The she-cat was always a dependable member in the clan. The fact that she was pregnant really shouldn't cause as much ruckus as it did. Deputy's had been pregnant before, though never out this far. That made her wish for the nice little den back higher up the mountain. Her thoughts were interrupted when Skysong, no Sunsong, called her name. She blinked not fully understanding at first, but when she did she was even more confused. She shook off her shock and spoke "Yes, of course Sunsong." she stepped closer to Goldenleaf fully intent on making sure that the she-cat never wanted for anything during the last part of her pregnancy and the start of kitten rearing. Deputy helper or not she would have gladly done this without the need to be an assistant.
When the apprentices were called her face lit-up in a large smile. The little kits of yesterday were becoming warriors of today. She was so proud of the four as they all moved towards Sunsong. She looked towards Goldenleaf. "Someday those will be your kits, standing before the leader and getting their warrior names. Can you imagine it?" She spoke gently to the other female as she leaned slightly on Goldenleaf. She caught herself leaning against the Goldenleaf and sheepishly smiled at the she-cat and straightened to hear what the new names would be.
Nymphiea Lilac is making a move on Golden! xD

Goldenleaf was deputy, and Sunsong soon enough called Pigeonpaw and her siblings and Littlepaw. Oh gosh. Her heart pounded. Her warrior name? It was finally time?
She nervously approached Graypaw and gave a small smile. "It's happening, we're becoming warriors."

Riverpaw took a moment to consider Robinpaw's question about a queen as deputy. In the history of their clan, surely this must have happened before, right? She thought back to the few deputies she had heard the warriors talk about and remembered that Morningsky, Littlepaw's mother, had been a deputy when she was expecting kits. Before River could voice her realization, Littlepaw voiced it for her. As Littlepaw spoke, Riverpaw nodded along, agreeing with Little about Goldenleaf's strength and determination. There were many mumbles from other cats about the situation being strange or unconventional but Riverpaw didn't see it as such. The clan had only had Sunseer as a leader with no deputy for her entire life. She'd lost her family and seen so much death in the old territory. Now they were on the move, had a leader, a deputy, and deputy assistants. Things were really looking up. To Riverpaw, they should have done this long ago and she found it strange they waited so long. Riverpaw was pulled from her thoughts as Littlepaw's name was called to step forward to receive her warrior name. She also lightly nudged the young medicine cat forward before turning to Robinpaw. " That day can't come soon enough!" Riverpaw replied to her pale friend, excitedly digging her claws into the ground.

Something felt off about Bloodoath, especially when he looked at her and then down. Her ears swiveled back, eyes narrowing harshly as she considered the male. She had seen his efforts this trip; seen his push during the travel. Surely he wasn't.... no, he was, wasn't he? Jealous? Her spine tingled in irritation for a moment as her head turned to look at Lilacmoon. They needed to work as a team, not envy one another.
However, Lilacmoon's conversation was a calm she welcomed. The normalcy of it all was warm. Goldenleaf's hard expression softened, tail tip flicking as she kept an eye on Sunsong and the apprentices walking up. She allowed the touch, even leaning against her in return. It felt nice to have another similar soul in her presence.
"Time will fly and I'll be missing the days of them being paws," she sighed wistfully, eyes warm and tone light. "I still can't believe they're mine. I have the round stomach and kicks to show it, but it's all surreal. I can't wait to see them." As if on cue she felt a roll in her stomach, followed by a short laugh from the female. Soon. Littlepaw hadn't expected her name to be called; not in a sentence like that. She knew it was coming, but also hadn't expected to earn her name during the trip. It all seemed foreign, really. Losing her dad, Sunsong becoming leader, a new deputy and assistants, and now a name? So much was happening. Littlepaw blinked back surprise and shot a nervous glance to Robinpaw. What would her name be? What if Littlepaw hated it? What if she was instead being punished for her break down? Oh, this was all so much.
But Robinpaw's excitement helped her keep on track. Littlepaw cocked her head to the side and then stumbling as she was shoved. Right! She had to move! She nervously bounced paw to paw as she stared at Sunsong, casting a glance back at Robinpaw. The nudge from Riverpaw was also another reminder that she couldn't receive her name standing there.
"I, uh, do you think.... ooooooh, I'm so nervous," she mewled to her two new friends before deciding to just go, padding up to Sunsong. Her ears were held back in apprehension, eyes wide as she considered it all. A new name! Her warrior name!
Was her dad watching?

Sunsong watched proudly as the young cats stepped forward, noting the eager little ones behind them. They would earn their name soon enough. If this journey wasn't enough to count as an assessment, she didn't know what did. She recalled the day she had earned her own name, a name she no longer carried but held lovingly in her heart. Looking over these cats, she wondered where each of them might end up. Brave fighters? Great negotiators? Maybe even leaders one day. "I, Sunsong, leader of MountianClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn." The traditional ceremony rolled off her tongue easily, but she had to think of the words spoken for medicine cats, "Littlepaw has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her Clan for many moons.""Apprentices, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?" She turned to the medicine cat apprentice, "And Littlepaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from battle and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?" Of course he was there. He looked around with the sun's eye and saw many Cats of the Sun here with him today. Proudly, the father stood behind his daughter, his scent strong with the warmth of the sun. Things were changing. And while they may not be what every cat was used to, he knew in his heart that this was right. He had chosen correctly and, now, things would begin to fall into place. Dovetail found herself beside the newly named Sunsong, whispering the words of the Medicine Cat Ceremony into her ear with the biggest grin on her face. She was so proud. Little had come a long way, and she still had further yet to go, but it was time she carried herself now. The white she-cat knew that if she were ever needed, she would be there.

Her heart hammered in her chest as she felt her mouth grow dry. It was here. The influx of emotions and worries was so much, but at the same time... it felt right? Her paws ached almost as she dug her nails into the dirt, head nodding.
"I promise," she mewled, voice raw still. Her heart still ached but her head remained high. She knew her father would be proud. She wondered, briefly, if he had time to reach Sun Clan and was now able to watch her. She hoped so; desperately. Her eyes stayed trained on Sunsong, eager to hear her new name.

Silverstreak watched the ceremony continue, her gaze occasionally moving between others who were chatting in the area. This ceremony was a wise move on Sunsong's part, she thought. Lifting the spirits of MountainClan, after the tragedy that came when they all woke this morning.
She glanced towards her siblings, spying Stormsong nearby and her sisters sitting next to their respective toms. She had spoken with Dawnbreak just after the death of Sunseer. How at ease everyone else seemed now and Silverstreak could feel it herself.
Well played, Sunsong. You'll make an excellent leader yet. She thought as she continued to watch the ceremony. Dustfeather smiled at Duskwing when she mentioned that Robinpaw would be a warrior before either of them knew it. Curling his tail around Duskwing's. As he gazed back at Eclipsepaw, he let out a happy sigh. "She'll be a great warrior. All of them will." He mewed softly.
When the matter of Sunseer and Morningsky came up he rubbed his cheek briefly against Duskwing's. "I'm sure they can. I suspect all of SunClan may be watching this ceremony today." He mewed, hope flaring in his chest. The death of their leader was just this morning, but with the prospect of new warriors and a new Medicine Cat, the ceremony seemed to banish all dread from his heart, at least for the time being. Robinpaw watched as Littlepaw approached Sunsong and promised to uphold a medicine cat's duty to their Clan. Her mismatched eyes were round as she watched the she-cat fondly. At Riverpaw's words she purred in reply. Soon, they would be up there and their Clanmates would be excitedly looking on for them. She leaned up against Riverpaw and gave a happy sigh.
"I think... everything is going to be okay." She mewed to her friend, in this moment, content. Blazekit was bouncing around the clearing, his excitement keeping him from being able to stay still. "Littlepaw, you're getting your big cat name!" He squeaked. "You'll be able to talk to us more often now that you'll be a proper Medicine Cat!" He mewed, stopping briefly in front of his sister, before he spotted his father nearby and scampered over to him. "Sunseer!" He mewed and rubbed up against him. "Littlepaw's not so little anymore, huh?"

Dawnstride's gaze on the queen was steady, one brow lifted in consideration. He could hear the way the wind was blowing in the mews of his clanmates. Many would decry the idea of a pregnant deputy, no doubt. But the ginger tom remembered the mentor he so loved. Her strength carried him today, and she had done her job well, heavy with kits or no.
The thought paused there a moment, jade gaze flashing Littlepaw's way. A frown touched his features, if briefly. One might argue that the fate of her kits said what Sunclan thought of a Deputy Queen, though it made him heartsick to think of Morningsky that way. The warrior concluded just as quickly that he wouldn't. Anything that happened was between their fallen and Goldenleaf, anyway. Dawnstride was no stranger to going against the grain of the clan; he found himself wishing her luck.
"Truth," Dawnstride murmured back, trying to ignore the way Silverstreak's leaning on him made his fur stand on end, "new warriors for the Clan will bolster spirits, increase our chances - and take away from the controversy. It's a cunning move." He nudged his fellow warrior with a shoulder. "In our situation, can we really say unusual is for the worst? We'll have to have faith in Sunsong's judgement. For the moment, she's all we've got." For all he spoke in a placid tone, the frown on his face defied it. There was some consideration of events in it, yes, but also concentration: as he had gauged the Clan moments before, now he did it again. Despite himself, the Clan's disapproval - and one particular note of jealousy - brought him some amusement, however wicked. It would be worth keeping an eye on things. But then, he always did.

Sunsong watched as each apprentice gave their promise, each one filling her heart with pride and hope. ' Our future rests in the paws of these cats. SunClan, guard them well,' she thought to herself as they spoke. " Then by the powers of SunClan, I give you your warrior names," She looked to the young medicine cat, "Littlepaw, from this moment on you will be known as Littleflower. SunClan honors your desire to help others, and we welcome you as a full Medicine Cat." She waited patiently for the cheers and good wishes to settle before naming the next warrior. "Pigeonpaw, from this moment, you will be known as Pigeonflight, to honor your decision to follow your clan. You put faith in us and now we welcome you as a full Warrior of MountainClan." She looked down on her apprentice and smiled. "Eclipsepaw, from this moment, you will be known as Eclipsefur. SunClan honors your loyalty and strength. We welcome you as a full Warrior of MountainClan.""Greypaw, from this moment, you will be known as Greybreeze. SunClan honors your adaptability and we welcome you to MountainClan as a full Warrior.""Tonight we celebrate with a hunt. Eat and be well, my clan, for at dawn we will leave and move forward." With that, Sunsong jumped down, landing deftly and walked over to Golden to discuss future plans. Quote: Sorry guys, had to move this forward. I'll give everyone a day or so to respond but then we will be having a time skip of a week! Get ready guys, this thread is going to get a bit more active soon!

Silverstreak's ears perked up to hear what Dawnstride spoke to her while the apprentices accepted their new responsibilities, one after the next. She found herself nodding to the words the tom beside her spoke. Yes, he was right. They would have faith in Sunsong and they would continue on persisting. They had come this far, despite their unusual arrangements.
When the apprentices got their warrior names, she cheered alongside her Clanmates. Then, as the matter of a hunt was proposed, she stood. She wasn't about to sit out of this hunt if she could help it. She turned her gaze to Dawnstride. "Will you be joining the hunt?" She asked him. Dustfeather watched the ceremony with a happy heart, cheering Eclipsefur and her fellow apprentice's-now warriors and a medicine cat-names loudly. When the ceremony was over, he flicked his tail uncertainly. Celebrating with a hunt? Should he join, when he didn't catch anything before? He shook himself. Of course he would join if he could. He looked to Duskwing.
"Shall we go inquire after that hunt Sunsong mentioned?" He asked her. "Or would you prefer to stay here this time?" Robinpaw bounced on her paws as she gazed at Littleflower, excitement gleaming for her kin in her mismatched gaze. "Littleflower! Littleflower!" She cheered, making sure her hollers were among the loudest. When Sunsong dismissed the meeting, she launched herself at the Medicine Cat. "Littleflower! Great SunClan, your name is so pretty! I mean, it was before, but now it's... wow! You know?" She purred loudly and then leaned forward to rub her cheek against her kin's. "I just know that Sunseer and Morningsky must be so proud." She mewed to Littleflower and then moved to stand beside her, grinning from ear to ear. "C'mon! I bet if we look we can find ourselves some cool nesting material! Riverpaw! Come join us! We're gonna go find moss or something so we can rest up for tomorrow!" She called to her dear friend across the way.

When the apprentices were named at last, Dawnstride made sure his voice was heard among his clanmates', calling out each name in a solid, round yowl. And if he was a little louder for Littleflower's, what of it? Their new medicine cat stood strong despite her loss, ready to take on a position that meant she would know even more before she finally went to rest with her family in Sunclan. The warrior found his gaze resting on the last vestige of Morningsky's legacy. He didn't know much about the trials and abilities of a medicine cat, but he did know that their connection to the ancestors was stronger than most. Perhaps her calling would be more of a boon to Littleflower than he had realized.
The tom had stood before Silverstreak finished speaking. A short stretch saw him shake out his pelt, quick and violent, before straightening before the she-cat with his answer. "Of course." Almost as an afterthought - and definitely not after any hesitation - the male winked. "Once again, let's give those ex-apprentices something to talk about." Doubt, fear, consternation - Dawnstride aimed to shake those lesser feelings off of him as well. They would not do Mountainclan any good going forward, and they certainly wouldn't be of any use to him.

Two weeks passed. Slowly, as their pace had decreased with the growing condition of their new deputy. The faster cats scouted ahead, hunting for the clan as they returned to the slowly moving clowder of cats. Despite their pace, Sunsong knew moving forward was better than standing still. And the further from their home they went, the more bountiful prey had become. The white she-cat watched her clan fill out. Slowly, but there was still progress. It had been half a moon since Sunseer had died, leaving her in charge. Tension was heavy in the air. Not all of her clan agreed with her decisions. SunClan's words echoed in her head, 'Split as the river does.' That time was coming faster than she wanted. It would break her heart to see her clan split, but... It must happen for their survival. She walked with the main group, her white paws flecked with mud as they followed the bank of the river. It had been nearly a week now since the child of their river returned to them. Some had wanted to stay, thinking this was good enough, but she knew better. 'Chase the river, split as it does.' It hadn't split, not yet, and so they had to continue forward. Sunsong looked back over her shoulder for the third time in the past few minutes. Goldenleaf was lagging again, her belly swollen with kits. She would give birth sooner than she had hoped, but excitement drowned her worry. New kits, a new life. Hope blossomed. Besides, they would be fine. With Littleflower's herbs and Golden's diet rich with fish, there was nothing to worry for. Right? Quote: Two weeks have passed! We are in the closing arc of the beginning of our story. Anyone else excited? I know I am!

Silverstreak still couldn't quite believe that they'd been travelling for so long. While their pace was slowed on account of their sole queen and deputy, she still couldn't help, but occasionally cast her gaze behind them, after they'd settled in for the night, and reflect how far they had come from their original territory.
Her priorities hadn't changed since she'd left, however. She was still monitoring her sisters and even occasionally giving her brother, Stormsong, the time of day. She had resolved to make him feel more included, though her sisters were still the first cats she tried to feed whenever she had a successful hunt.
Finding the river they had with water in it, though considerably less than she had known it as a kit, had lifted something from her heart. They were going in the right direction. Looking at Goldenleaf, she couldn't help but think of the future in a better light. They would have tiny paws journeying with them and a new territory for MountainClan to thrive upon. Surely they would be able to escape the death that had awaited them in their old territory.
As she walked, she found herself once again by Dawnstride. More often than not, she had found herself brushing her pelt against his as they walked with the group. She was almost spending as much time with him as she did with her sisters. Almost.
"It'll be good to see new life in the Clan, what with Goldenleaf's kits arriving." She remarked as she walked alongside Dawnstride. "SunClan knows we need them. I just hope they..." She didn't finish her thought of what may be. Goldenleaf was being well looked after with her two assistants; there wasn't any cause to worry. "Have you ever thought of having kits of your own, Dawnstride?" She asked before she could stop herself. Half a moon. An entire half moon MountainClan had been travelling. Dustfeather, of course, had stuck by Duskwing's side for the journey. Occasionally he had strayed over to Eclipsefur, but for the majority of the time, he'd been walking with Duskwing. As such, he got to know her family a bit better. Without any living relatives of his own, it made him feel more... included.
The water slowly appearing in the river had been a bit of a celebration to him as well, though some kit-like worry in him prevented him from drinking too much, thinking it would dry up like their river had in the old territory.
Onward they traveled and Dustfeather found himself feeling more confident. His guilt in regards to his poor hunting the night prior to the death of Sunseer had left him and now he found himself hunting almost as well as he used to. He could hardly wait until the day he found that the river was entirely full again. Then it would be just like the Clan they'd left and he could express himself as a true warrior, unlike the shell of one he felt like he'd grown into.
"It's going to be a lovely sunset." He declared to Duskwing, even though it was no where close to the sun lowering. "I can feel it." Robinpaw didn't let the journey get in the way of her training. Every morning she was up and pestering Duskwing to teach her more about tree-walking. Sometimes she preferred trying to tree walk ahead of the group, but she found that one too many times she lost her Clanmates and had to scamper after them on the ground. She often mused to her sister, Leafpaw, that she thought it would be so cool if all of MountainClan could tree-walk!
"Imagine that, Leafpaw! Everyone in the trees forever! We'd be right up close to SunClan too! It would be so cool!" She said as much to Riverpaw, too. When she wasn't chatting Leafpaw's ear off, she was rubbing her pelt against Riverpaw and Littleflower.
She wanted Littleflower to know that even though she was a full Medicine Cat and Robinpaw was still an apprentice, that they were still kin and Robinpaw would do whatever she could to help her. Riverpaw, well, Riverpaw was still Robinpaw's best friend in the Clan-no, the entire world and that wouldn't change for anything.
The prospect of the new kits was the gossip that was on Robinpaw's mind lately. "Do you think Goldenleaf would let me teach her kits how to tree-walk? Though I guess if they're unsteady on their paws, I would have to call it tree-wobbling." She was saying to Riverpaw and Littleflower as she walked with them. "I wonder when Duskwing started learning how to tree-walk. Do you think she started as a kit? I'll have to ask."

Everyday, Pigeonflight would reflect on Sunsong's words of her warrior ceremony. Yes, she had faith in the clan and her mentor, but what about the rest of the clan? Remember when she, herself, wanted to stay behind?
Goldenleaf's kits were bound to arrive anytime soon, and she remembered being assigned to walk with the queen back when the journey started. Many things have changed, and Pigeonflight did not know if these were going to be good or bad.

Goldenleaf bit back the nausea as she trailed after Sunsong. The weeks had been good for her, at least. Strength returned briefly as the joy of the new warrior names filled the clan. Except... today. Today was not a strong day. She knew what day it was -- a mother just knew. She picked her pace up, slipping beside Sunsong with a tired pant.
"Sunsong, I think today's the day," she kept her low, not keen to have the other cats hear quite yet. She had her fair share of looks and doubt from some of the clan cats, to the point she tasted bitterness on her tongue. She loved the clan; gave them her all. Deputy was a title she was fiercely devoted to now that it was given to her, but the eyes on her belly weren't all fond ones. She had noticed.
"The kits. They're ready." She chanced a glance back at Littleflower, hoping she'd catch her eyes. Littleflower had been quiet for the two weeks. While she clearly welcomed Robinpaw, Riverpaw, and Leafpaw's company, she also held a sadness to her step. She missed home. Missed her father and the clan that was once strong. She had meant to talk to Sunsong a bit ago about something... but it never seemed time. Instead, her eyes shifted to Robinpaw and the others.
"Probably, it's a good skill." And it was! Littleflower admired Robinpaw's tree-walking. She paused, swallowing thickly before lifting her head. "Hey, uh.... a few weeks ago.... when da- Sunseer died.... Sun Clan visited me. They gave me a message; when day turns to night, look at the sun. I... can't make heads or tails of it, and when I go to tell Sunsong someone pulls her aside...."
She unfortunately did not notice Goldenleaf's gaze.Blinded by Silence If Sunsong want's to overhead the prophecy Littleflower is mentioning.
