If there was any good to come of this debacle, it was that there was no time for Nictor to be distracted. Sure he had some hit and miss history under pressure, but in this case, it was more that there was no room to focus on anything but the snow.
If nothing else, Nictor’s instincts to survive could be quite strong when met with danger. Not his irrational fears and jumpiness and overall shoddy coordination, but the fact that he reacts and he moves when push comes to shove.
And this? Snow cascading around him, piling in, trapping him, his chest tight light he couldn’t breathe and ice biting his veins? This was a shove.
It was a shove that send him stumbling into the avalanche, shovel in hand. And now he was curled in on himself deep under the snow. He wasn’t sure how long it had been and how long it would be, but each moment bled into the next in the eerie lonely silence. His stress had spiked and pushed past his limits and bled out of him until he was limp in the depths of the snow, quiet and numb.
At least if something came for him, he’d be able to see it?
He was felt weak and short of breath and his vision was going darker and darker…
And so Nictor sat there in a daze, not quite there, as he waited. And waited.
