Xagarath Ankor Only just dicovered that the internet archive lets you download really old films on which the copyright has expired. This is keeping me happily occupied. Already gone for A Trip to the Moon (1902) and Un Chien Andalou (1929), and Nosferatu is now sitting on my hard drive. I haven't seen Un Chien Andalou, but I like the other two. Must see if I can find a few other tasty titbits from that silent movie season on BBC4 - some of those Victorian and Edwardian works looked fairly interesting. smile

I found it hysterically funny, but I'm unsure if that's the way it was meant to be taken. I ought to check if they have Train Entering a Tunnel, too, or the Great Train Robbery.

Must admit I've only heard of one of the three. Hmmm...
Anyway, I saw Stranger Than Fiction the other night, which was surprisingly good.

I;ve been hearing very well of the Last King of Scotland lately. However, with The Fountain and Them also coming out on Friday, I may have hard choices to make.

Missed my window of opportunity for Pan's Labyrinth, although friends who've seen it say that it is less a fantasy movie and more a relatively violent movie about the Spanish Civil War. Still, it would have been nice to see something in Spanish again - I guess I'll just have to dig out my Mask of Zorro Spanish DVD and the recordings of the A-Team I made from Spanish TV smile
Meanwhile, I'm still hoping the ETA on Alatriste doesn't change from March. Although I *bet* they dub it. Don't know what the hold-up is, it was out in Spain 14 months ago...
Other than that, nothing is grabbing my attention at the moment. "Dreamgirls" is calling itself the movie event of the year or something. Please. That's gotta be either POTC3 or Harry Potter, as far as I'm concerned. There's a movie with Peter O'Toole and (more importantly to my mind) Leslie Phillips, but the subject matter's not my style - aging thespian falls in love / lust with friend's great-niece. Might be called "Venus".
The Mouse House has not released anything that's interested me since Lilo & Stitch (or Monsters Inc, whichever came later). Still not seen Cars and I'm not that bothered.
Oh for the heady days of university, when I had Star Wars & Lord of the Rings movies to anticipate. I have a subscription to "Total Film", but not a lot is catching my attention these days.
Samwise, you still about? What about your movie-watching quest? How's that going?

Anyone else run across the forthcoming adaptation of The Dark is Rising? The fact Eccleston has been cast gives me some hope it might not be awful.

I am fairly confident I'll be seeing Hot Fuzz sometime within the week, so I'll be back here with the review. I'm really looking forward to it.
I really wanna check out 23 aswell...

Hot Fuzz is a great little film. I'm not sure if I prefer it to Shaun, but it's one of the best films I've seen so far this year. (Saw it on opening night)

March is gonna be a nice little month for geeks like myself. With 300 coming out on Friday, and TMNT on March 23rd, there's much to love for the nerdy crowd (as well as fans of incredibly short movie titles : P).
Which is pretty nice...I haven't really had much movie-wise that I was looking forward to in the past few months.

My well is dry when it comes to cinema-going at the moment. There's nothing that really attracts my attention, except maybe Ghost Rider - though Samwise has said that it's not a great film. Other than that, I'm waiting for Pirates 3, Harry Potter 5, Indy 4....
Still, I'm off to Madrid briefly next week so I shall take the opportunity to pick up a copy of Alatriste.

I'm fairly furious INLAND EMPIRE is on nowhre near me at present, and musing how much I can afford to travel. Hopefully it won't be Mirrormask all over again.
