GunSniper:

Kyle bore back into the cub's colorless eyes with his gaze. There was no hiding fatigue. That was to go without saying. However, the fact he was still standing and following the simplest commands was admirable Silently of course. There was no cub to spar with the little one and it would be not as good to be knocked around by a stronger adult. The cub seemed to have a concept of pain and equal of tolerance to it.
Slowly Kyle waled around the cub and studied his stance again. He drew a deep breath. When he stood in front of the cub again he looked downward.

"Track a source of water." Kyle instructed. He had not shown him a source since the cub's arrival. Ajax had already shown that he was competent enough to hunt for food. One could not survive without water.
And one should not always rely on what they know. "Go nowhere near your home. "

Ajax looked back into the eyes of his teacher. He remained unmoved as he was studied. Slowly the cub too in a deep breath and quietly released it.
His ears remained attentive and perked as he listened to his next set of orders.
Find water. He knew where water was...
Kyle's next command filled his ears.
Oh.
Well, that made things slightly more difficult. Though, he didn't state how near are far...just somewhere not home. So, somewhere he didn't know and that was new to him.
that wasn't impossible.
It could be done.
The cub nodded

GunSniper:

The 'nowhere near' was generally specific to not even close, however, Kyle left that up to the young one's mind. Hopefully the cub had caught on to the tracking part of the task. There was no way for Kyle to tell if the cub were to go near his home or not. He had no idea where he lived before. Hopefully the cub would be wise enough to follow the orders regardless of that. If there were the slightest hint of familiarity, the cub would surely loose a part of his tail. Kyle was resolved to that.

Kyle waited for the cub to move. Despite having to walk at an agonizingly slow pace, Kyle would surely follow behind and see where the cub would go, how he would find a source of water. And, more importantly, if he would disobey an order.

Ajax looked back at Kyle as he stared at him. The cub tried to think what would be best to do. They where on a volcanic mountain....he hadn't been on the other side of it....
a dark ear turned back at thought. So, he had to find water-it just couldn't be familiar. If he hasn't seen it before, but knew of it-was that familiar? He knew there had to be water on the other side of the fire mountain...though he never had been there.

"May I request for clarification of the orders, Tah?" The cub asked not looking away from his teacher.

Was he to search the valley? Or could he stay on the mountain?

For a cub and with his previous training, Crucible did well to show him where to go on the mountain. He didn't really want to cheat himself in his training, but he didn't want to disappoint his teacher, in know there was somewhere closer then the valley to find water

GunSniper:

Kyle had waited more patient than he had with anyone else. While the cub stared back at him, in what seemed to be through a fog, Kyle remained still as a dark statue. This was the first time in their short time together that the cub seemed to be confused by the orders given. It was disappointing. However, Kyle didn't show this outwardly. He simply stared back. Than the cub ventured to ask for clarification. Kyle's ears visibly docked back a moment before he turned his head toward the sun than returned his sharp pointed gaze to the cub. The hollowness of his breath echoed from behind his iron helmet.

"Find water and do not go near your former home. How difficult a task is that?" Kyle growled. "I will know your sense of familiarity so do not try to be a trickster."

It was not hard to recall how the cub had reacted to the new lands he had experienced yesterday. Merely spying was not the only goal of Kyle's constant watchful gaze. He was becoming familiar with the cub's habbits. It had not been so long a time, but one could pick up things here and there in such a short time. Being a general, Kyle had to.

"You must become familiar with this whole land, and you are forbidden to communicate with your old family. So much as look at them longingly and you will lose a part of your tail. If that does not work than I will simply remove one eye at a time. And you will have to learn to be a warrior from the bottom once again. Now, go find water."

Ajax's maw clinched tighter together as Kyle noticeably became impatient by his words. The cub let out a huff, the hunting grounds he had went to yesterday were not unfamiliar to him. And the mountain wasn't fully unfamiliar to him.

Inwardly he was annoyed.

Dark tail flicked as he was given unnecessary warnings. Ajax had no desire to see his family, not now. He was traning, family was something to desire later. His question had been...kinda answered. It just ment he would have to unnecessarily venter further then he had gone to find water, even if he knew there was water closer-just had never been there before. Perhaps then, his question would be further understood...

Raising to his paws, the cub released a tired breath and started toward the exit. His dark tail remained raised behind him as he trotted at a quicken pace.

His journey took him from the fire capital, Lord Shen didn't like for his people to leave the main lands-but he was on orders....

GunSniper:

Kyle had taken note of the cub's tail and features. The point was not to see how well they could follow a map, Kyle had already seen how he could follow clear orders. This one was not as pointed, save for the goal. Simply find water. Be resourceful. Kyle's jaw clenched a bit, however he spoke nothing more. He simply followed the cub closely to see where he would end up, where he would go, and more importantly to see if he would try to be tricky.

Most of the territory was familiar to Kyle, he knew where the cub was going from here. He had to know the area, he had to make sure when his scouts gave him a report he knew where they were. It helped in this situation as well. Water was not far from these rocky slopes. It wasn't the best water, but it was enough to wet the tongue and sustain life.

Had this cub learned how to track water before? Kyle briefly wondered while he looked down to the young one. Clearly he knew how to fight, for a cub, but how much survival skills had he learned?

Bu now the sun was crawling high above their heads causing all shadows to cower beneath their source. The horizon blurred and waved about in the sun's scorching rays. No clouds in the sky and no shelter from the pounding heat that the sun imposed on the land. Most of the land was flat here, those teeth-like crags were nowhere to be seen on this side of the mountain.

1-4 for water.

As Ajax started out of the Fire capital, he purposely started toward the valley. He hadn't been there before. It was close to mid-day and he could really start to feel the warmth of the fire sun on his back. It was more comforting rather then uncomfortable for the cub, he was woven from fire after all.

After some time, the cub's maw panted slightly before his dark paws felt the soft cosh of volcanic nursed grass. Once the valley was reached, the cub slowed and let his paws taken in the softness of the grass. Stopping, his toes curled and grabbed at the unfamiliar land. Dark ears turned about, and his nose raised to the air. Turning his head he looked back to his home as his maw closed. looking back at the capital, his brow forward as he wondered if he was in a unfamiliar area for water.

Just in time...Thirst had greeted his maw.

Gunsniper:

Kyle silently followed behind taking notes of how Ajax tracked, observed the land, and made his decisions on where to go. Again, impressive. The cub's fur was as black as his own, he knew the sun was far more cruel to someone with dark fur than light. They had far more punishment in the heat they so loved.

Water. Grass spread in every direction until the strange hills that sprung up over the smudged horizon. There were no animals grazing. The area seemed more like a vast prison than an open field. Even the sky was void of birds. It seemed.. off. Especially considering the water that flowed through the land. Perhaps it was still too hot. Most animals around here liked to come out in the evening.

Kyle took time to lap up the water himself. He too needed to take care of himself when training. However, he kept his eyes open and stance alert while drinking. They were not on home territory, there was a possibility of attack. War was not merciful to anyone.

Once Kyle too had his fill he lifted his head and looked down toward Ajax. His ears remained on alert for any sounds that would be unnatural for the surrounding. Considering Ajax was only a cub, he would have to flee if the enemy showed up. Unless he wanted to leave the cub to meet the weaver...

"What have you learned?" Kyle inquired.

As Ajax's nose raised to the air, a faint refreshing smell teased at it. Ear's perked forward and heavy tired paws started him forward in slow pace. He knew his teacher was near, just as he had been before.

It wasn't long before just as his nose told him, that some unique trees of the valley came into view. The little pink free-falling petal's enticed the club closer. As he approached the sight of a small glistening run of fresh water caught his ebony gaze.

Quickly the cub's maw found the steam and quickly lapped up his fill. Eyes closed to the refreshing stream filling his maw. The fresh water, had a very sweet fruity taste.

A dark ear turned as his attention pulled to the side. Opening his closed gaze he watched out of the corner of his gaze as Kyle himself started to drink from the stream.

Slowly the cub picked up his head and looked to his teacher. His maw dripped with stray drops of water, swiftly his tongue moved to not waste a single drop.

Dark ears turned back as Kyle's gaze fell on his own...

What did he learn?

"One can not survive with out water and our land is very soft outside of the city..." Ajax spoke. His ears turned about as he picked up on the vary strange thing.

"And it's quiet...."

too quiet. there should be more life around such a refreshing stream. If not for kyle's presense, he would be very unsafe.

GunSniper:

Kyle only nodded. Pointless talking would only mask anything that might be in the area. They needed their ears for being alert, not idle chatter.

He turned about and begun to walk back the direction they had originally come from. Ajax's next command was implied; "follow". Instead of going too far, Kyle approached the base of one of the trees. They would need to go back as soon as possible, but they did need to rest. At least, he knew the cub would. Kyle was older and could make the journey no problem. The cub, maybe not? Smaller body, less energy to store? Kyle was unsure. He had never dealt with a cub before and would rather not have broken him before he got to see true potential.

Once at the base of the tree he stood still and watched their surroundings.

"Get your rest." Was all he spoke as he continued to listen to the surrounding area. Despite the brief heated winds rushing through the leaves, it was still very quiet. Kyle did not like it. It didn't always mean that there was something menacing in play, but it surely felt off. Total silence in unguarded territory was always unnerving.

As Kyle wordlessly gestured for the cub to follow, Ajax did so instinctively. The cub's larges paws moved in a trot to keep up with his teacher as he lead them to a gathering of trees.

The cub released a breath as Kyle requested that he gather his rest. Lowering to his hunches, the cub sat tall beside his teacher. He was tired, but fully didn't want to rest. He knew his limitations, even being as young has had been-but every day he was getting older and was fully in the age of adolescent. With such an age, the cub did have more energy. However, he sat and rested-just as he was told. Taking a glance up to Kyle, he realized he sat in his teacher's great shadow.

One day he hoped to fill such a shadow, and perhaps even over take it and cast his own larger shadow.

A cub could dream...

Releasing a breath the cub turned his head away and looked across the valley. Working to be just as attentive as his teacher.

GunSniper:

Above a strange bird took flight, Kyle's head whipped upward to watch it take off and fly away over the horizon. He locked sight with it until it was no more than a colorful smudge against the sky. Damn birds. They were just as annoying as the b'alam that had the matching feathers. Kyle snorted softly than looked back to his pupil. He seemed... frustrated? Being unaccustomed to cubs, he had no idea what they were like. They were smaller, more fragile... going off what he had studied on this first experience alone, they were headstrong and foolhearted. Ajax's father seemed more than convinced this cub was special. Unfortunately Kyle had no idea what that merited. Cubs were smaller beings. Unfit for battlefield and as such something Kyle could care less about. Cubs would not be making their way into a battlefield, so they were not something the general should have to deal with in any case.

After a moment of rest Kyle begun to walk backward again, retracing their steps back into home territory. The closer to the homeland they became, the more familiar the sounds and feeling was. It didn't seem tense, off, silent.

"Why did stopping upset you?" Kyle inquired after they crossed the threshold into known territory.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 22, 2017 1:29 pm

Ajax's ear turned back as Kyle's attention spotted the bird ahead of them. The cub curiously looked at it and let his maw open. It was a little strange to see a lone bird, but perhaps it was nothing.

The cub was more then happy to be walking again. Hopping forward and after Kyle as he moved, he hopped in the adults shadow and committed to stay in it.

They traveled in silence as they made their way back toward the capital.

Once again dark ear turned as Kyle spoke.

"It did not upset me." The cub spoke as his brow moved forward as he thought it would be best to explain if he contradicted his teacher. "I am just eager."

eager...it was a word Crucible used to explain him often..

GunSniper:

Kyle snorted after the cub spoke. There was a lack of a better word, or a term confusion. Cubs were an enigma. Or, perhaps they were not all as mysterious as they seemed.

"You were not? Eager would not have been a word to describe your outward appearance." Kyle contested. Perhaps stressing the importance of an outward appearance.

His stone-teacher guard was lowered for a moment. It would be in his best interests to get to know 'cubs' better. At least if he was going to properly mold this one into a soldier. At some point. With the small size and inability to resist breaking so easily, Kyle could not use this one on any battle field.
