Colette had the odds stacked in her favour before she even emerged from her stone. The two Kumiho who imbued her stone had six and seven tails respectively, and were part of one of the wealthiest upper-class families in her village. Her family has a long history of strong magic and high-standing, so it was a shock and embarrassment when Colette was born with only three tails. Everyone had expected the family to parade their only child around, but instead she was locked inside while spreading the false rumour that she was sickly. Despite this shame, she was pushed to her limits even as a young child to harness her magical potential. In a desperate attempt to increase her magical abilities, her family cast many different illusion and charm spells on her, but instead this just caused Colette to form a deep, subconscious fear and aversion to magic.
Despite this, Colette was incredibly spoilt as a child. She may only have a small amount of tails, but she was still the child to an upper class family and her natural beauty allowed her to eventually be revealed to the village. She was dressed up and pampered, hoping this would hide her 'birth defect'. Unsurprisingly, this instilled the importance of appearances in Colette and she quickly became a miniature diva. Her small talent for singing was quickly picked up and mastered, turning even her hobby into work for her. Colette's only escape was staring out of the upper story windows at night, looking lovingly up to the stars, seeing them as the definition of freedom and beauty.
When the barrier was taken down, Colette's family was quick to send her to the Academy. They hoped she would return as a beautiful young woman, well studied and cultured, in order to further conceal her lack of magical ability. Colette was furious at first, throwing a number of tantrums for being sent away from her life of luxury and pampering. She had no choice but to put up with her new environment, and she quickly found an escape in the world of the occult. Having already developed a love of space, she began to explore the idea of the supernatural. Witchery, aliens, ghosts; these all became odd fascinations of hers. Whether she will outgrow this obsession remains to be seen.

Her parents' eagerness to imbue a stone resulted in Artemisia being born a hallowed. She has never found her mutations to be an issue, however, feeling that they are relatively subtle compared to far less lucky children. Much to the relief of her mother - Missy - the hybrid holds no resentment towards her parents. Conversely, Artemisia has always been a 'mummy's girl', rarely found far from Missy's side. Her father, Kaii, expressed little interest in raising the children, but Missy was more than happy to raise the twins alone. The three of them - Missy, Artemisia and her twin, Chi - live at the Asphodel Gardens Academy where Missy works as a teacher. It was a happy upbringing, and due to their mother's popularity amongst staff and students, almost no bullying was shown towards the hallowed twins.
As she grew older, Artemisia was naturally drawn to the hobbies of her mother; primarily baking and cooking. The hybrid had less interest in decorating and aesthetics than her mother, instead enjoying the science behind it all. Artemisia loves little more than following each direction to the letter and seeing what it produces. Of course, Missy was always more of an improviser, but Artemisia took care to write down any of her little changes to recipes and how they affected the outcome. These activities only brought Artemisia and her mother closer together, to the point where they are near-inseparable.
Having grown up at the Academy, Artemisia experienced no attachment issues when going to her first classes despite her dependence on her mother. To the hybrid, it almost feels like simply walking into another room and learning new things for a few hours; what could be better? Still, she can't avoid her dependence on her family, and tries to share every class activity with her twin. Currently, Artemisia has little interest in forming a more secure relationship with her father, but this may change in the future. Presently, she is content with honing her cooking skills and focusing on her studies.

wanting to teach some responsibility to artemisia, missy provided her with a new little friend. artemisia was delighted to be gifted ymon and was happy to have a pet. even though she was supposed to learn responsibility through ymon, missy was so doting that she constantly helped raise the flitterat through its younger weeks. ymon doesn't get away with a lot and artemisia constantly keeps his cage pristine; this has resulted in ymon himself becoming very clean and he's grown averse to being handled by anyone less than perfectly hygienic.

missy artemisia's mother and only guardian, the two of them have grown incredibly close. artemisia was clingy as an infant, but her increasing interest in her mother's hobbies has resulted in the two becoming inseparable. artemisia feels hesitant and unsure when her mother isn't around and tends to doubt herself far more. fortunately, the two of them are rarely apart, and missy's teacher instincts makes her enjoy teaching her child everything she can. only time will tell if this relationship will become less unhealthy and allow artemisia to be more independent.
kaii artemisia's father who showed little interest in raising the children. artemisia doesn't resent his father for being absent in her life, but she also isn't particularly interested in developing a relationship with him. possibly time will change this outlook.
chi artemisia's twin and only friend growing up besides her mother. the two of them are as close as most siblings, but not the same level often expected from twins. this may be because of artemisia's dependence on her mother, meaning she never had a need to find companionship in chi. as the two begin attending classes, artemisia may grow more dependent on her twin as she has extended periods of time without their mother.

Having grown up with the Chomp community that valued family, it was unsurprising that Cherry's parents were looked down on for producing a hallowed child. Seeing as most children imbued in October result in death, it shows that his parents' took that risk to produce Cherry. No one was outwardly aggressive towards the family, but the community made their opinions known. During his infancy, Cherry's parents tried their hardest to shield him from this stigma, but as the years went on they became almost exhausted with the constant conversations about his mutations. They still loved their child, but they weren't sure how to secure a positive future for him.
Their path became clear when the Chomp community became more involved with the rest of Above and Below. While they weren't excited to be apart from their child, they had heard that Below was far more accepting of 'unusual cases' like Cherry. With heavy hearts, they bid goodbye to their beloved child and sent him to study in the Asphodel Academy. Cherry hated his parents for this, having been told his whole life that they loved him and would always protect him. In his mind, they clearly didn't want anything to do with him and thought of him as nothing more than a burden to be sent away at the first opportunity. This angst resulted in Cherry becoming an isolated child, avoiding people as much as he could, believing they would treat him poorly like the Chomp community.
As time went on and Cherry became older, he became intensely dependent on anyone who showed him the slightest amount of affection.This resulted in Cherry often being easily used by others, eating away at his already-low self esteem. He fell in with others that were often referred to as 'the wrong crowd', eventually resulting in him getting introduced to the club scene. He loved the attention he could receive while dancing and began his use of addictive substances. He managed to barely scrape through graduation from the academy, and didn't hesitate to fling himself into the club scene. Cherry works as a dancer in clubs where he can, loving the applause and attention. Recently he met a bartender in one of the clubs; a hybrid named Jayden. The two of them found solidarity towards the bitterness of their swamp homeland, and eventually a relationship formed between them. It wouldn't be considered the healthiest relationship as it consists mostly of Cherry wanting to please Jayden in any way he can, but the two of them enjoy it.

buddy jayden's spontaneous son, cherry did more fathering of buddy than his actual father. of course, cherry can't help but feel sad whenever he sees buddy - a reminder of how little the hybrid respects him as he'd rather imbue with some stranger than with the hallowed. regardless, cherry enjoys buddy's company and helping to raise him, even if buddy does most of it himself. despite being upset with jayden for creating buddy in the first place, he hopes the child sees him as something of a father figure; perhaps that would help jayden perceive him as an actual partner.
cassy cherry's daughter whom he imbued on a whim to spite jayden, the chomp feels regretful for bringing cassy into such a turbulent environment. he tries his best to show her love and supports, but his desire to please jayden makes him spend more time with buddy than his own daughter. he knows cassy must think of him as a fool and he secretly appreciates her bossing him around to clean up his messes and his attitude. cherry has nothing but respect for cassy and is shocked every day to realise someone so confident and skilled is his daughter.

jayden cherry's primary love interest. cherry may refer to jayden as his boyfriend or partner, but the terms aren't reciprocated. from an outsider's point of view, it seems like a casual relationship where one individual is completely enamoured with the other. despite this, cherry is thrilled with the relationship and adores jayden's energy and confidence. his interest nears obsession, reflecting the chomp's needy disposition. cherry of course hopes the relationship will go even further, but nothing suggests that it will.

Reiko was raised in a conventional Litch household in Frostfyre. Like many Litch families, a large number of generations lived within their significant estate. Reiko's uncle was an Elder of Frostfyre, resulting in an upbringing of comfort and status. Reiko, being the firstborn, was taught by the most prestigious tutors in the city and her parents always placed emphasis on being studious and tenacious. Her wealthy upbringing - and the status associated with her family - imbued an unavoidable amount of arrogance in the young Litch. Her parents ensured she conducted herself with the utmost etiquette and adhered to social protocols, allowing her to attend social gatherings only if she behaved appropriately.
Reiko grew up as a disciplined, educated and determined young lady. By the time her schooling was done, she was considered one of the brightest pupils in recent memory. This didn't mean she was the most intelligent, simply the most tenacious. Her parents declared that the world was her's to take, but they never anticipated the direction she took. Reiko's family all assumed she would stay in Frostfyre to learn politics and become an Elder like her uncle, but instead she chose to pursue a worldly career... in fashion. Her family had mixed views on this, however the overwhelming majority was outraged and disappointed. How did something like modern fashion have an impact on society when compared to the study of magic? As always, Reiko refused to be swayed from her decision, always certain in what she desired. How she came to desire a life of fashion has yet to be revealed to anyone but herself.
With few well-wishes from her family, Reiko left her hometown for the first time in her life in order to study at Grendel University, having discovered it was the most illustrious place in Below to learn about fashion. As soon as she arrived in the city, Reiko secured herself a job at the leading fashion magazine company. On her first day, rumours began to spread immediately as to how such a newcomer to the scene managed to force her way in so easily. Some said that her family name carried weight, even in the Demon city; others insisted that she used some sort of Litch mind magic in her interview. The truth is, Reiko's fiery passion could be easily seen by the lead editor, even through her cold, composed exterior. Once she has graduated from Grendel, Reiko aspires to climb all the way to the top of the fashion industry.

zemenu one of the photographers that works in the same company as reiko, zemenu became suspiciously friendly incredibly fast. it's clear to the litch that her 'friendship' is little more than a cover for her desire to use reiko's skill and respect in the company to further her own career. of course, reiko is completely satisfied with this and is happy to reciprocate the superficial friendship if it means they can better each other's career. she won't hesitate to drop the hybrid if she ends up being a hindrance, however.
