Entering Combat with Obelion

Turn 1

Jason hesitated as he opened his eyes and saw this new... world? This... space with no form within his mind was difficult for him to grasp at first. He'd never actually seen something that was nothing before. He was pretty sure he didn't like it. He squinted his eyes in a look of pure confusion as he struggled to make sense of the empty space around him. The environment flickered and changed each time he tried to understand the emptiness. For a moment, he was standing on an empty plain. In another moment, a collection of geometric shapes. In another, a circular white room. When Jason saw the Obelion, his face relaxed in recognition. "Ahh... So that's how it is. You are to be my opponent, aren't you?" Jason smirked and rubbed his chin thoughtfully as he sized his opponent up. "Not bad... not bad." As Jason took stock of the AI, the environment flickered again as his mind starting to piece together the encounter. Instead of empty blocks and rooms, the environment started to alternate between real-world situations. First, a wooden deck within a traditional dojo. Then, a boxing ring. In another moment they were standing in a martial-arts Octagon.
"And if I win, you are going to be my new partner, aren't you?" Jason was grinning openly now. "They tell me your kind are intelligent. You can speak and reason, even formulate complicated plans. Some have even told me you can feel emotion! But I doubt that..."
The environments were becoming more real as Jason's conversation went on. Now, the places were filling in with detail. A public park in the middle of a modern metropolis on a bright sunny day. A soccer stadium filled with cheering fans, half cheering for Jason and the other cheering for the Obelion. Jason's weapons from the real world had materialized on his person, holstered as he usually kept them. Still, Jason seemed more pleased and amused with the Obelion than intimidated or serious about fighting it. At the moment, he was pacing back and forth as he sized the AI up...
"What is your name, wolf?" Jason asked with a smile. "I don't know how your kind like to do things, but where I come from warriors show some respect to those they intend to fight." Jason stopped pacing and seemed to recall something. "Oh. I had almost forgot, your kind do not have names." he scratched his chin, thinking to himself for a moment as he considered this newly-recalled information.
"Well. That simply won't do." he decided. "If I'm going to fight you with due honor, AND if we are to be partners, you must have a name." Jason smiled again and folded one arm across his chest and bowed at the waist. "I am Jason Legrand. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, ravi de vous rencontrer. Let's have a good fight, Solitaire."
The environment finally stopped changing. It settled on an empty city street at midnight. The sky, obscured by a freeway overpass just above them, was pitch black. The street, devoid as it was of life and vehicles, was well-lit by the surrounding street-lights and seemed to glow with the white iridescent light. The buildings around them were mostly shops, corner stores, and the occasional bar. Their advertisements and signs faded with age, and worn neon signs flickered weakly in their windows. There was plenty of room to move here, as the street was wide, but there was just as much cover to be had in the alleyways between the shops and bars. Typical city sounds filled the air, yet the stillness of this stretch of road was far louder than the distant police sirens and barking of city dogs. Jason grinned again. "Engarde."
With practiced precision, Jason drew his rifle and fired two bursts at the wolf-like AI, sending a hail of bullets down the empty road. Screaming streaks of lead speared through the air as empty casings fell to the asphalt at Jason's feet.

The Obelion dug its claws into the ground, wishing oh so vigorously that it could grin. This man before it was so strange, so talkative, that it amused the Obelion greatly. The Obelion paces, circling around the strange man as he talked to him. Thoroughly amused, the Obelion let out a laugh. The arena around it was ever changing, almost as if the man couldn’t decide what it was that he wanted to fight in. This was fine, but bothersome in one way… It wanted to know it’s surroundings in order to fight. It would have no advantage, sadly, but it knew it could still win… It hoped.

The man still continued to talk though, going on and on about, really, whatever. But the question that was posed struck him. Name? He had no such thing. AI’s never really did. They had model names, but that was as close as it would get. They also had numbers, unit numbers that would differentiate them from their counterparts of the same type. He was, in fact, a little butt-hurt about not having a name. Still, the man wished to fight him on honorable grounds, demanding that it would have a name if the battle were to be as such. Thinking about it, it did like this deal.

Surrounding the AI was now a city street, both of them under an overpass on a quiet, well lit night. “Very well.” the AI finally spoke. “I will fight you honorably, but you may not name me unless you win.” Digging it’s claws into the street, it got ready to pounce, wanting to dart to one side in case the man decided to attack him first. “Jason.” The AI spoke the man’s name, it’s voice tinny and cold. It wasn’t like it was calling out to the man, nor was it familiarizing itself with the name. The AI simply respected the man for rathering honorable combat over a based skirmish that was for wimps and sissies. Not that the other AI’s would go along with the same idea, though there were a few.

Then the man shot, blasting the AI with two precise bursts of ammo towards the being. The AI darted out of the way, pushing off the ground and launching itself to the left then forward into it’s own attack. With gnashing teeth and gleaming claws, it swiped its metallic paws in attempts to take out this man as quick as possible.

Jason grinned as the AI darted out of the way. Agile creature, but charging headlong into suppressing fire was unwise. Jason thought. It underestimated him. He could use that to his advantage. As the creature charged him, Jason fired another volley of shots directly into its path in the hope that it would charge headlong into the spray of bullets. He hoped they would penetrate. The creature's body appeared to made of fairly thick metal, and Jason wasn't sure how effective his bullets would be at range.

When the Obelion pounced at him, Jason spun out of the way and into a low crouch. In the same motion, he drew his blade and tried to use the AI's momentum to drive it through what would be a living creature's rib cage.
If I can use its momentum against it, Jason thought, Then I should be able to penetrate that armor. Probably.
He winced through the effort of his maneuver, trying his hardest to press the blade through the Obelion's iron-like plating. The screeching of metal scraping metal pierced his ears, but he forced himself to ignore it.

Whether the cut was successful or not, Jason did not want to risk being in range of those claws any longer than he had to and would quickly pull the blade away and roll to the side. He kept his rifle trained on the enemy as he looked for some cover. He would need to keep this enemy out in the open so that he could take advantage of his range. If only there was some kind of choke-point...
For the moment, Jason took up a position behind a parked car. His rifle hissed as he ejected the clip and quickly loaded a new one. His movements were practiced, calculated. Years of training had made him very efficient with a firearm, and he's had this rifle for almost as long. "Should've brought armor-piercing ammo..." He murmured as he pressed his back against the car and peeked over the top to get eyes on his opponent.
He's fast, Jason observed. Can't outrun him. I'll need to outsmart him instead... Let's see how well he can throw that weight of his around...

Concerned [Mood]
Uncle's Apartment [Location]
Uncle [With]
And I'm back! [OOC]

__________________________________

Almost immediately after winning her battle with Satoru, news came to Corrinne that her Uncle had fallen ill in their home, in Paris. The news came to her as a bit of a shock. She had just left her uncle’s side just days before. But knowing that they only contact relatives for serious situations, Corrinne quickly hurried and packed after being patched up by the doctors at BAITR Headquarters.

Arriving in Paris Headquarters, she looked around at the architecture and breathed in the familiar smell of home. Noticing some memorable faces, they smiled and waved to her. It was a comfort to see intimate acquaintances again, rather than new strangers or friends. There was something very safe that permeated from the colossal walls of Paris Headquarters, an unfaltering attitude that not only expressed itself in its buildings but in its people as well. Corrinne wondered if she had that same unwavering attitude or if it merely came off as haughty.

A company car took her home to her Uncle’s apartment. Where she found him sleeping quietly in his room, his breathing hoarse and his mouth lying agape. The apartment was more cluttered than she had left it, the dishes he promised to wash still sat dirty near the sink. And there was a general disarray of things, as if he knew no one would visit and therefore gave up on keeping the place tidy.

Corrinne scrunched up her brow as she shook her head back and forth. She left her room at BAITR Headquarters slightly disorganized but nothing like this. “Men,” She whispered sardonically. This roused her uncle and he weakly looked up at her from his sick bed.

“Corrinne?” Her uncle questioned looking up at her with his eyes heavy from sleep.

“Yes Uncle, I’m here.” She sat on the edge of his bed and rested her hand on his leg, gently petting it casually.

“Oh,” He groaned, “You didn’t have to come here, it’s just a cold.”

“That’s not what the doctors say,” She paused while he coughed uncontrollably. “They say that you have pneumonia, tell me now, were you so distracted that you didn’t notice you were sick.”

“Don’t scold me, I’m your elder!” He coughed again.

“Then maybe you should act like one,” Corrinne stood to fetch him a glass of water and quickly returned to his side as he squabbled with her.

“Your turning into your mother, she was always scolding me too.” He took a few sips from the glass of water she offered.

“Maybe it’s my being away that has made me more like her.”

“Maybe,” He replied and fell back onto his pillow and sighed. “How are things, I heard you were in a tournament, or something like that. Did you win?” He closed his eyes and listened to her as she began to respond.

“I won my battle but someone else will probably win the tournament … and I have a good guess as to who.” She grumbled near the end of her sentence.

“Who?” Her uncle opened an eye in interest to see her expression as she talked.

“Ah, just this p***k named Dal’Mori, fancy name, huh.” She rolled her eyes before settling them on something in the distance outside of her uncle’s window.

“Thinks he’s all that, huh?” He watched her quietly.

“All that and a bag of chips,” She looked back to him and smiled.

“Sounds like you really like him,” He smiled broadly and closed his eyes knowing her reaction.

“Oh you know me, I love those … self-centered, egocentric, brutes.” She almost growled, as she looked sideways out the window again. Her uncle chuckled and coughed.

“Typical,” He breathed out wearily. She looked back at him and studied him while his eyes were closed. His face was wane and creased from time. His once ginger hair like hers was now white and his once blue eyes were grey like steal. ‘Ever the General,’ She thought to herself as she pushed some of his bangs back from his forehead.

“Corrinne,” One of his hands reached up to grasp her wrist gently.

“Yes?” She smiled tenderly.

“Don’t leave me,” His eyes began to water weakly as his voice quivered. Corrinne looked down at him, shaken by his words, she grasped his hand strongly and looked at him with concern.

“I’ll never leave you,” She responded assuredly. This settled him a little before he drifted off to sleep again. Corrinne rubbed his arm gingerly as he slept. He was always like this when he was sick. ‘Like a child,’ Corrinne thought to herself. ‘Like we all are,’ She smiled to herself and decided to clean the apartment.

The next day the apartment was clean and her uncle could now sit up in bed and take some soup and medicine. They chatted about his work and when he started to feel sick. And also about how she had been doing at BAITR Headquarters. Was her AI Unit affecting her mind or not? She told him that she didn’t think it was but how was she to know. She still felt she thought the same as she always had. Her uncle listened intently, he signed her up for this but he was still unsure of it. Corrinne couldn’t afford to be ‘unsure’, this was her life now, and there was no going back.

He rested easier that day and left Corrinne to relax. She was able to fall back into some of her old routine: reading, watching the news, napping on the couch in the afternoon. Sometimes when he would cough uncontrollably she would enter his room to check on him. He would wave her off but she usually would help him with some water or tissues. He complained from her assistance but she knew he was pleased with her presence.

And yet she still felt he held her at a distance. She often wondered why he could not love her the way her mother had? Were all men this way? She sat and watched over him while reading one of her books from her room, most likely something by Jules Verne.

Over the next couple of days, this routine continued and Corrinne began to wonder how the others were doing back at headquarters. Her uncle could see her growing concern and urged her to return to BAITR Headquarters.

“But you’re not completely well yet,” Corrine objected.

“I’m well enough, I can take care of myself now. You should return to BAITR Headquarters, go chat to your fancy name man.” Her uncle laughed and he fended off Corrinne’s irritated slaps playfully.

“He’s not my fancy man and I believe he doesn’t even like me.” She pouted.

“No one could truly dislike you, my dear.” He was suddenly more heartfelt than he had ever been before and this somewhat worried Corrinne.

“You sure you’re alright?” She asked again.

“I’m fine. Go, go, I can take care of myself now.”

Turn 2
12 - 5 = 7 - 100 = 93 + 2 = 95% Chance

As the creature darted towards the Frenchman, the man turned his body and began spraying into the area that the Obelion ran into. Luckily, the creature was quick on it’s feet, changing directions almost immediately in response. Taking off in the other direction very suddenly, it ran back towards the wall, again, dodging the knife the wanted to make its way into its ribcage. Unfortunately, with the enemies weapon being entirely ranged, it was going to be difficult to be able to land a hit on this Jason fellow. It had to get up close and personal, and the ranged weapon would make it difficult to want to be able to do that. So, the AI would have to do everything it could to be able to get up in the man’s face as fast as possible.

Of course, that meant that it had to figure everything out in a split second time frame. Easy, right? Everything had to be quick thinking in this fight, something that AI’s had down to a T. After all, they were perfectly engineered computer programs made living. And this dude was pretty smart, obviously using its movements against the creature. It had to out think, out play, and defeat this man in battle so that it could take over and finally be free once more.

So, the Obelion surveyed the area, checking out what was around it that it could use to it’s advantage. For the time being, the human that was going to be either its companion or its next meal was hiding behind a car more than likely attempting to piece together a plan. Well, what a better way to shake the ideas out of someone’s head than throwing a car at them? Or, rather, pushing the car into the wall as fast as possible so that they were squashed between the wall and the car. Good plan? Good plan.

The Obelion charged forward, running as swiftly and silently as possible, directly into the car Jason was hiding behind. Using its powerful shoulders, it slammed into and pushed the car with all its might. With a great force, the car slid into the wall with little to no issues at all. Now, there was a sizable dent in the car’s side, and hopefully a squashed human on the other side. That being said, the Obelion did not wish to stay close for very long, darting away as fast as it could to make for a difficult target to hit just in case the man was alive enough to shoot again.

Turn 3

13 - 10 = 3 - 100 - 2 = 95%

Jason had been formulating a new plan when he realized the sound of the Obelion's claws against the pavement was coming closer.
"Wait a sec- GAH!?" The sound of the car being smashed jarred him into action and he quickly rolled out of the now crushed car's way, narrowly avoiding it. He took a moment to take stock of what just happened before realizing the creature was still chasing him! He fired a quick volley of shots in the AI’s direction to slow it down before running to a nearby fire escape. If he could get on a roof, maybe he could make use of a high-ground advantage? Better than being trapped on flat ground against an enemy that is far faster than you.
As Jason made it to the top of the fire escape, he rained down another volley of bullets, aiming specifically for the face. Even if the shots didn’t penetrate the creature’s armor, he might daze or distract it for a second or two. Maybe this isn’t the best place to fight such a beast... He thought to himself. But what would be any better? High ground helps. Perhaps if we were separated by some kind of obstacle? Like a river? He forced himself to push those thoughts aside as he took up a position where he could get a clear shot on the AI. Its too late to think of such things now. You’ve already chosen an arena, its not as if you could change it again. ...Right? Probably.
He shook his head and tried to clear it. No no, obviously you couldn't again. I mean, that would be ridiculous. But... what is actually stopping me? I did it several times earlier. Why couldn't I do it again? Jason paused and grinned. Maybe I'll try it. We'll see how Solitaire likes surprises...

12 - 5 = 7 - 100 = 93 + 2 = 95% Chance

Everything was moving in quick successions now. One thing after the other, never pausing to have a moment's breath. Shoot, hide, push the car, run, shoot, claw, attack. Never a pause for anything other than the next attack. It was exactly what the Obelion wanted, to fight quickly and dangerously, forcing it and its opponent to think quickly and with command. If anyone was going to be his partner, it was going to be someone who could think on their feet. It wasn’t going to be just anyone. That wasn’t how this worked.

So when the damned french dude rolled out of the way of the car and immediately started shooting at the Obelion, it was actually quite pleased. But that meant is still hat to stay on its toes, Especially since this man was obviously not new to combat. The first volley was easy to dodge, as was the second wave, but that didn’t mean it was going to let its guard down any time soon. So, as soon as the bullets flew past the metallic hound, it shot forward once again, choosing to use the terrain for its own advantage. Cars were everywhere, as it has already been noted, and it was definitely going to use them to its advantage. Rocketing towards Jason, the metallic animal swiped its huge claws at the man’s midsection. It knew, at least a little bit, that the attack would not properly land. But that was also not an issue. All the creature needed to do was land a few blows before it was all over and he would be in the running. Land the attacks before the other guy. Flawless, right?

Absolutely wrong. The ground beneath the AI’s feet quivered for a second after it landed. It sprinted away, giving it the distance it needed to figure out what it was that made that happen. It was just a small shiver, but it was enough to tell him that the scene was going to change. Maybe. Or perhaps it was simply a ploy to make the Obelion think that was going to happen? Whatever it was, it had to be careful.

Turn 4

13 - 10 = 3 - 100 - 2 = 95%

“Quoi?” Jason snapped aloud when the world flickered, thus ruining the element of surprise.
Damned thing is too sensitive... He thought to himself. Well, if Solitaire already knew he was going to cheat, there was no sense in pretending that he wasn’t.
The world flickered, shivered, and changed. The ground beneath them stretched, spreading them apart. The concrete and plaster gave way to soil, and grass sprouted up against their feet. The sun rose into the sky, illuminating the world around them. The change was sudden and jarring, but Jason at least knew where everything would be and responded in kind. The newly broad and flat terrain gave him the benefit of range once again, and so Jason opened fire. Each time the Obelion tried to move, Jason forced the world to shift again, either causing the ground to rise or fall under Solitaire’s feet in an attempt to disorient it. The honest truth was that Jason had never fought an AI before. In SWAT, and in the streets, he had always fought people. They were predictable, and comparatively fragile. Suppressing fire would force them to slow, a few shots across the chest would bring them to their knees, and the sight of a sword would make them cower. But this? This was different. He was forced to think, to calculate, and to act on his feet. He knew he couldn’t risk a single mistake, or the creature’s jaws would be at his neck, and he would be done for. This was a test of strategy as much as one of skill...
And so, a strategy formed... Jason grinned as the thoughts in his mind reshaped the world around them. They stood once again within a city street, but this time it was packed with people. Shop owners peddling their wares, beggars sitting on the sidewalks, and crowds of people going about their business. Of course, none of these people were real, and none of them responded to Jason or to the Obelion.
“I am told your kind are skilled hunters, and if I am to be a Baiter, I will have to be the same.” Jason called to his oponent. “So, let’s you and I play a game. We will hunt, but we will see who is the hunted...” Then, Jason slipped into the crowd of people.

The Obelion stopped moving, its metallic claws clicking on the ground beneath it as it slowly regarded its opponent. It still did not accept the name Solitair, not yet. It still had to fight and lose, but the creature refused to do as such just yet. It seemed that his opponent was still attempting to figure things out, but for the time being still had yet to grasp the fundamentals of battling in the mind. The world simply flickered rather than switch, which was more than likely his goal. At least he tried, though. It meant the battle was likely to pick up very soon, much to the benefit of the Obilions excitement.
And that was when Jason began shooting once again, taking aim at the dog-like creature causing it to move quickly once again. This time, however, the surrounding area changed drastically with every shot. If it weren’t for its distinct ability to grasp any situation it would have slipped or fallen in some way, making the fight a lot more difficult than it needed to be. With the grace of a well balanced warrior animal, it leapt from one landing to another, keeping track of where it was placing its feet as well as dodging the oncoming bullets with a dignified huff of effort.

The Obelions tail flicked as it stopped once more, grasping its surrounding with one long look around the environment. Suddenly, the newly formed streets were populated with beggars, street urchins, and merchants alike. The idea was amusing… As if the Obelion was going to be afraid of hurting others to get to the man behind all of this. As if it wasn’t able to see through the crowd and find the one soul who controlled everything. “Humans love the sound of their own voice.” it spoke, its tone barely a whisper. No human had the capability to make a fully realistic street in their own mind, certain things would always remain unrendered or ever so slightly off. This, and every human on the street did not respond to either the AI or the man in control. It was almost… too easy, actually.

Taking its first stride forward, it crept slowly, using its nose to sniff out its prey. It kept its ears open for anything unusual, and made damn certain that it would be getting exactly what it needed out of this human. The Obelion could admit that the human was clever, but even then it still had the mental capabilities of a human. In the end, that was still just what it was. Human. Though… If a clever human and an intelligent AI got together, bloodshed would be the least of the enemies worries.

THERE! It picked up the smell of the human it was fighting and dashed forward, finally lunging forward to tear at the man’s throat. Whether or not the creature would land its first attack, its tail would then whip around to strike at the man’s head. It was vicious, but also calculated in its horror. It knew where to strike to have it’s attacks mean something. Hopefully, by the end of the day, it would either be in the hands of a capable partner… Or it would end with a rampage in the streets with a beautiful puppet man, killing hundreds before hunkering down and formulating a proper plan.

Jason swore sharply as he narrowly dodged the rampaging AI, then rolled to escape it's lashing tail. He took advantage of their closeness to fire on the AI, the muzzle-flare stabbing out into the air as Jason backed up into the crowd.
Damn. Well it was worth a try... he thought. But I guess the terrain is my only chance... Even as he dashed through the crowd, his body beginning to grow weary as the fight dragged on, Jason realized that something felt... different. He was growing more tired, yes, but his senses felt sharper, his thoughts clearer. Was this part of the environment? Was it because this wasn't his real body...? Or was it...
Jason grinned. I'm getting used to fighting them... he realized. I'm getting more dangerous. Despite his growing confidence, Jason kept himself in check. He had a new tactical advantage, but that hadn't mitigated Solitaire's advantages over him. The Obelion was still a savage and dangerous opponent, one that Jason could not afford to take lightly.
Jason ducked into one of the shops along the busy street. The fake humans largely ignored him, and he no longer even considered their presence. He rolled over a counter-top to use it as cover, peeking over the edge only to fire another volley. And another, and another. I'm getting faster too... Jason thought through the muted blasts of his rifle. Shells flew through the air, bouncing off of the counter and to the floor as Jason took careful aim and fired... He longer concerned himself with suppressing fire, as it hadn't seemed to work before. Each bullet was aimed with deadly precision, each volley aimed to disable or end the Obelion's synthetic life. One volley he aimed at it's legs, anticipating that the AI would dodge. The moment it did, it would be met with another volley carefully aimed at the precise spot Jason expected it would be. He repeated this a third time, just in case it dodged again. He gave no pause, and expected none.

Turn 5
17 - 5 = 12 - 100 = 88 + 2 = 90 - 15 = 75% Chance
85 - 15 = 70 2x = 140

The obelion was starting to feel the strain of battle, but it kept moving. It had to move fast to be able to do anything in this world, and he knew that. The Obelion was still going to fight no matter what the outcome would be, but it was still going to be a long effort that made the Obelion unsure of what the outcome would be. It didn’t think the fight was going to be over anytime soon, though. That it was certain of. It felt too good about itself to think that this… this HUMAN was going to do anything to him. Absolutely an impossible idea!
So the canine lept through the crowd, trying its best to find the human it was fighting so it could continue to play with this man. The crows didn’t pay attention to him in the slightest, which made it easier to weave in and out of the people bunched together. They barely moved, but gave him enough room to move around the people. It was fabulous, actually, and made location oh so wonderfully easy~!

Problem was that the man seemed to be getting faster. It made the Obelion frustrated, but remained unable to give up. The beast moved to charge, rushing at the man who would either take the Obelion’s life or give it his. Charging, the creature managed to dodge a volley of bullets which were aimed at its legs. Managing a dodge, the creature shot off to one side, only to be hit with precise shots towards its chest area. It hurt. A lot. The creature tumbled, fumbling to catch its footing when it tried to attack again. Damn… This wasn’t going to be a winner for him after all, was it?

Before it was even able to make an attack again, another volley of bullets smacked the creature, sending it to the ground one final time. This time, it wasn’t able to get up, painfully writhing on the floor before it finally gave up. No, of course it would end up like this… Why would it happen any other way? The man was capable, and it was a dog. Solitair… That would be its name from now on, wasn’t it?

He simply had to accept that.

Combat with Obelion Ends

Jason paused, his weapon still trained on his fallen opponent. His finger still lingered on the trigger, ready to fire again. Jason waited.
He waited until he could hear nothing but his own measured breathing, and until he was certain his opponent would not get up. Finally, Jason rose and approached the fallen Obelion's form, his weapon still trained on it. Once he was close enough, however, he could see that the AI had been beaten. He lowered his weapon and crouched low near the creature's head so it could see him. The simulated world around them began to slowly fade away. The buildings, the fake people, the street, even the sky, fell away until all that was left was an empty white floor, with an empty sky that went on forever. "Well fought, Solitaire." Jason said, a small smile on his face. The smile was one of satisfaction, but it held none of the gloating or disrespect Solitaire might have expected. Just because the AI lost, Jason didn't think he needed to punish him further. Who's to say the AI wouldn't enjoy being his partner? Assuming it was capable of enjoyment beyond the satisfaction of a completed objective. Eh, close enough, Jason thought.
"You were a worthy opponent, and I think you will make an even more worthy partner." He smirked, allowing his normal cocky demeanor to return. "Anything to say before we both return to the world of the living?"

The AI looked up at Jason, its body too damaged to move. He could see it in its eyes. It had resigned itself to its fate, and it hated it. "Do not expect the rest of my kind to be as forgiving as I was." the AI's voice was broken, scattered, like a glitched audio clip. But what Jason could hear was filled with spite. "Without me, you would not last a week. Remember that."
Moments later, the simulated environment slowly collapsed. The ground became an empty abyss, and both Jason and Solitaire became little more than bits in the stream of data.
And then, Jason was awake, laying on a hospital bed with the doctor from before monitoring him. "...Ow. Ow? OW!" Jason suddenly winced and put his hands to his head. He was wracked with the worst headache he had ever had. The doctor just chuckled quietly and handed him a plastic cup of water and a pill. "Take this." She told him. "It will help the headache. And congratulations by the way."
Jason grumbled as he took the pill. "Congratulations? For what...?" realization suddenly hit him, and all he could do was laugh. "Of course... I am a Baiter now, aren't I?"
"Not yet." The doctor told him. "You'll still need to have your new AI downloaded into a core for storage. And then there's all of the business of your title and whatnot." she smiled. "But yes, besides that, you're a Baiter now."
Jason was grinning from ear to ear. He hadn't realized how excited, how proud he would be. He would show these Baiters how it's done. He would make a difference!
"You'll want to-" the doctor started before being stopped short. Jason, in his excitement, had suddenly sat up and kissed her full on the mouth. Then, just as quickly, he pulled away, hopped off the bed, and started towards the door. "I know where to go. Thank you~!" he called back, still grinning. I feel like I should sing a musical number... He thought to himself with a smirk. Too bad I was never all that good at singing...

Jason waited impatiently outside the lab where they were implanting his AI core. He'd chosen his sunglasses - a fitting enough item for an AI that would supposedly improve his senses. But the process was taking too long. So what if an Sapient AI took up Petabytes worth of data? You'd think they'd have figured out a way to speed up the process by now...
"Sir." An engineer stirred him from his grumbling. "It's ready for you." the man handed Jason's sunglasses to him. The jet-black lenses looked no different from where he stood. "...Well, did it work? They don't look any different to me..." Jason asked skeptically. The moment he touched the light metal and plastic frames, he got his answer. Jason could feel his senses sharpening. Details in his vision became crisp and clear, sounds that would have blended into the background noise of the room became distinct, and he was pretty sure he could smell what the engineer had eaten for lunch... More importantly than this, however, he could feel the new guest to his mind. Nice to see you again Solitaire... Jason thought with a small smirk.
I hope you are lying... The AI groused. Well, if you don't enjoy my company, you'll have plenty more people to talk to soon. Jason thought with a smirk. He thanked the engineers for their good work before heading to the transport hub. Minutes later, he was stepping on a teleporter pad for BAITR Headquarters...
