"Nothing to be sorry for."
They picked their way as quietly as they could through the forest and towards the cave walls. The hyper-alertness from yesterday was back in full force, to the point that he swore his ears strained to listen. Jack frowned as they found themselves at another fork, and he leaned in as if to examine the blue symbols further.
"I'd rather we didn't split up again, but it does cover more ground," he said in a hushed voice, looking to Chel. "Your call."

She followed behind, watching any point that he didn't already have his eyes on. She kept a hand close to his back so they could navigate in the dark.
"No. The ********, are you stupid?" she asked him, knocking her forehead into his back like a headbutt. "You're like ********' freddy- let's split up and ******** everything up gang."
The joke made her feel a little bit better. She looked at the two caves, thinking about the decision. Every second they wasted was another second Chris could be dead or worse.
"The white one," she decided. "That blue one has pictures and s**t- we ain't seen that yet, so it probably goes deeper ... maybe?" She ran a hair through her ponytail. "I dunno. It doesn't matter. Let's just go white."medigel from now on roll 1d6 every post. If u roll a 6 bad thing happen.

He smiled a little to himself as he replied, "Roger that, captain boss."
The torch was slipped back into his belt for now. Navigating in the darkness wasn't his preferred method, but a beacon of light would draw attention. Although then again, most creatures would have adapted around the use of sight here, he ******** basilisks could probably sense heat like pit vipers, knowing their luck.
Grateful for the brushes of contact, Jack led them into the softly lit tunnel.

Luckily they didn't have to go far. The tunnel was actually more of an entry way; the white crystals grew on the walls like moss. It was almost difficult to see Chris' mop of blonde hair poking out from his crystalline casing, but it was there. He looked merely like he was sleeping, but there was definitely a gauntness to his features.
Chel summoned her bow immediately, but the light alerted two larger, golden eyes. The basilisk hissed and lunged. It was a fight now.
Upon the creature getting closer, it was more apparent that this basilisk should not have been alive. It was skeletal in nature, bits of flesh hanging off it. It actually looked a lot like Chiyoo's dragon, but with less naturey bits and more black skin that hinted at decay.
She turned around fast enough to fire an arrow into its nose, pushing it back for a moment. "Go break Chris out," she yelled at Jack, standing her ground. "I got this." She wasn't feeling particularly confident, but she knew anything less than an assured tone would have Jack fighting alongside her.

God damn it. Jack's jaw shifted for a moment as he summoned Owain, but he gave a sharp nod. "Yell if you need backup," he called as he turned towards the crystal encasement. He briefly considered using the torch, but he had no idea how it would react to fire. Bashing it open it was.
Well, at least Chris didn't have a pretty face to worry about.

Chel reassured herself with the fact that she'd fought much larger things before. Back in history they'd faced a ******** world snake for ******** sake.
Of course that wasn't in the dark.
< Or a tightly enclosed area. >
There wasn't exactly time to worry about those things. The basilisk was moving, and fast. She fired another arrow at it's nose, seeing as that had worked last time, but the snake lurched back and then spat it's attack. The word rang for a moment and Chel couldn't move her body.

Something splashed by him, but he didn't stop to look. Chel hadn't cried out, so it wasn't pressing yet. His sword slammed hard against the hard carapace and he could almost make out a dent in the twilight glow.
"Almost makes me a little nostalgic," Jack commented as he worked, unwittingly thinking along the same lines as she was. "Damn if I don't miss the demon dog summoning."

From her stunned state, Chel was slammed into the cave wall by the snake's tail, tossed about like a leaf on the wind. Her lungs were free again and she took a long gasp of air before pulling her bow up and firing rapid shots as payback.
"I'm glad ... yer havin' ... fun ..." she groused.

"I am," he replied with forced pleasantness as he chipped away. "I get to wail on him and it's for his own benefit. I can see the ungrateful looks already."
Jack glanced over his shoulder as casually as he pleased. "Unless you want to tag me in?"

"Dreams do come true," she said snidely, rolling to the side and letting the snake smack itself into the cave wall. "Oh no, wouldn't want y'to chip a-"
Then the snake fired again and she was frozen with that s**t eating grin. Maybe the snake could recognize its kin?

Jack merely snorted in amusement and then continued to do his charity work. Let the sassy mouth handle the overgrown zombie worm, then.
"If it ******** your face up even more," he warned her, "we're breaking up."

This time Chel hit the ground after being un-stunned, gasping for air like she had on the riverbank. But she got up, and that had to count for something.
"My face can't get more ******** up," she shot back. "I can get makeup too." She knocked an arrow and instead of a flurry, took a very direct shot into the basilisk's mouth. "Don't joke about that."

There was a pause in which he considered where to strike. Chris was starting to look almost salvageable, but the crystal was stubbornly keeping on him. Between that and Chel's retort, he grew quiet and concentrated.
A sharp ping later, and most of the crystal was almost off of the Moon.
"Sorry," he said as he pried one of Chris' arms out. "Heat of the moment. I've almost got him out of this thing."

"Don't be," she told him, mirroring their short exchange earlier, earnest affection in her voice like always. The snake was circling her now, and she took slow, deliberate steps away from Jack and Chris in case the monster lunged again.
Carefully, she pulled out a runic dagger from her belt and clicked the button on the side. The dagger was thrown at the underside of the beast, and a circular barrier erupted outwards. It was a small one, the kind meant for minimal, temporary protection, but Chel was instead using it to unrest the creature and knock it on its side. Her time has a sun hadn't gone to waste completely.
She hurdled forward and mounted the snakes head, using her bow like a sword to stab into the back of its head while also firing shots into the thick scales. Not defeated, but substantial.

The only excuse for Jack not getting Chris out right then and there was being fascinated with the way his girlfriend assaulted the basilisk. While he wasn't a man who projected sparkles in his eyes, he most certainly looked on in admiration.
He wolf whistled as he started digging Chris' other arm out.
