Now that he was aware of how many people were looking at him, and also asking him very pointed questions, he began to wilt.

"Um, uh," he stammered. He couldn't think of a meaningful answer that didn't incriminate him automatically. "I, uh-"

Fortunately, Jack stepped in where he was beginning to dramatically fail. Wait. Jack? Lucky did almost a double-take at the life hunter, feeling a flush creep over him as he recalled the last time he had 'seen' Jack - though he knew little about him in reality, he knew quite a lot in an alternate timeline. Maybe too much.

Lucky realized someone had a hand on his forehead, and traced it back to its owner. No amount of scrutinizing Wilson's expression gave Lucky any hint as to whether anything was wrong.

Rep's gruff and final methods would not have garnered any more notice from Lucky than usual, if it had not been for that name.

"Sam's dead," he tried to say, as if speaking the words aloud would somehow cement the knowledge into place in his head, but it sounded wrong. Because he knew it was wrong. He had known it was wrong for a long time, on a gut level, and he had chosen to ignore it. But it was inescapable. She acted like Sam. She dressed like Sam. She spoke like Sam. "She's not - Charlotte is - who called her Samantha, Rep?"

Lucky was only vaguely aware that he had, in his lapse of sanity at the thought of Sam, reached out and grabbed for the lapels of Rep's jacket (inasmuch as he could reach from his sorry height). In actuality it was no more threatening than a single ant was to a shoe. But full realization did not come to him until the sound of someone coughing violently and hitting the ground resonated through the courtyard.

"S-sorry." There was a dizzying feeling of embarrassment burning through him. He let go quickly and folded his arms in front of him protectively.

He backed up a few more steps, till he was much closer to Shiloh. Close enough to lean over and whisper: "We need to talk."

It was maybe a little bizarre to see Nora being the one that wasn't quite calm and collected while Stormy was strangely calm, but so it was. This wasn't the first time Thane had gone silent on the Mist, nor the first time she had been defenseless. Stormy secured her single bottle of antivirus and began to pray to every saint she remembered to intercede on their behalf; God knew they were going to need it.

She made sure her grip on Gale's was strong. I'm okay.

"Should we go outside, or should we go find someone?" she asked them as the door closed behind them. And what a sight it was in the hallways several hunters here and there lied slumped against the wall, clearly sick with something. And even then, not every door was opened.

Nora shuddered. Infectious diseases were one of the few things that could really unnerve her, and if this was going to be a repeat of the mall and that other contagion mission...eugh. "Not quite everyone it seems," she answered belatedly, growing chatty when she was nervous. The sight of them was enough to make her already upset insides do a flip. She wiped some sweat off her brow, her expression tight. "Would it be too optimistic to call this bad cafeteria food?"

Wilson was not ready to deal with anymore crazy s**t. He was starting to give Lucky a stink eye when he continued to cross his own arms. "Deep breaths, Lucky," he patiently reminded in as gentle of a voice as he could.

[IN COURTYARD]

The more crowded the courtyard got, the more paranoid Rep also got. He backed up a bit, the same way he'd done with the grail, trying to put as much running distance between himself and anyone else as was possible. It was tough with the encroaching vines, but he felt with the wire-taut terror of the animal in the trap that they were just a hair's breadth from everything going tits up proper.

He was distracted from these escape tactics by Lucky who seemed to be completely ******** - for want of a better word - triggered by the name Samantha. The only reason he didn't lash out in reflex as his lapels were seized was sheer shock that anyone had dared wander into his very immediate personal space.

He stared in a hostile fashion until Lucky let go, and only then did he say (while brushing off his precious coat). "The Boss, Caelius. I was talking to him about the grail. He called the b***h Samantha, said she was its keeper and nothing more. Is that no her ******** name?"

CHANCE - COURTYARD

His gaze flickered over to Maebe, an amused smile tugging at the corners of his lips, in spite of the situation. "Thank you, Maebe, for your consideration of my appearance," Chance said with a laugh that was slightly dry, because his throat felt off. "I like that reasoning."

Dawson was still standing behind him a little, hovering over all three of them. "Well, I mean, I already am pretty well acquainted with the two upstanding gentlemen here - " His lips twitched as though he was hiding a smile, because Otto was definitely not standing up. "Thankfully, and I wouldn't mind getting to know you better, Maebe, but I'd really rather not be crowded into a giant cluster of people, especially if we're all sick with whatever the ******** this is."

He'd been about to tell Maebe that cigarettes could probably be pawned off of Finn, and Chance had a pack stowed in his room that had been left there, not that it would do them any good now; but before he could, there was a disgusting, wretched cough, and someone toppled over near them.

"What the ********," Chance said, glancing up at Dawson, heartbeat quickening a little, but he tamped it down. "Do you have any medic experience?"

ARORANGI - DORMS / THIRD FLOOR

"Pleased to meet you, Jake," said Arorangi brightly, which wasn't very bright, because the hallways were dim and crowded, and he was feeling extremely unpleasant at present moment. Still, he forged on ahead and kept a firm grasp on Lydia's fingers. "I have only been here a few months myself, I am afraid I have never had to deal with this sort of thing before."

Arorangi had not cleared any of the runics either, which was disheartening. He turned to look on Lydia.

"That is a good idea, aroha," he said with a nod, before glancing at Jake. "Why don't you come with us, there is safety in numbers."

GALE - DORMS

Gale had, at the last moment, followed Stormy's lead and snatched up his own vial of antivirus, tucking it away safely just in case. There was no telling if it would even be helpful, now that everything had gone to hell and back (your fault, your fault, his mind chanted, but he shoved it away), but it made him feel a smidgen better knowing it was there.

Stormy's reassuring grasp was soothing. Nora's unsettled shifting was not. Gale couldn't remember the last time he had seen her so antsy about something, because even when she was teasing him, or concerned over him, she'd always been levelheaded and in control.

The hallway was a terrible reminder of their current predicament. There were people slumped everywhere, some moaning, and some not moving at all. Gale stepped gingerly over someone's legs, wincing a little, a wave of nausea riding in his throat.

"I think so," he answered Nora, a little hoarsely. He felt sick, head spinning. "I haven't eaten in the cafeteria in a week."

But talking about food was making him feel worse, so Gale clamped his mouth shut again and kept walking in the direction of the stairwell.

"How are you feeling?" Shiloh asked Ian seriously, turning to press a hand to his forehead. He gave a look at Quinn, extending the question to him as well and to the other hunters around them.

"So that means we're responsible for ourselves, we've got to keep each other updated, especially if whatever this is spreads fast..."

He was no expert and he had absolutely no idea what he was doing, but being Shiloh, he had a strong aversion to putting anyone down, even Rep. If they could keep an eye on each other, maybe there was some way they could figure out a quarantine.

But his attention was turned quickly from the living to the apparently living dead, and he stared at Lucky. Just how much had he missed?

Needing to talk was an understatement. He narrowed his eyes at the suddenly close Lucky, resisting the urge to grab him in much the same way as he'd just done to Rep.

"Talk fast. Is she really back? What the hell is going on, Lucky?"

His whispers were terse, and he shifted his weight nervously. Things were sounding worse and worse by the minute.

Jack, who could attest to Leslie's behavior in combat, nodded in affirmation. "Yeah," he answered grimly, glancing at the wall of thorns. Grail...which legacy was that, then? And what was it corralling them for? Outbreak was the first happy thought. Containment.

...Wait, Lucky? So much had been going on that only now did it hit the Lifer that the guy had returned from his...whatever the hell had happened. Jack locked eyes with him and didn't react to the pink color rising in the other man's cheeks. His gaze narrowed suspiciously as Shiloh conversed with him; more things to consider later when they weren't in immediate danger.

"What does the grail feed on?" he asked Rep. "How do you know it's that artifact in play?"

[IN COURTYARD]

Rep gave Jack a grave sort of look. "I know it because I've been chasing the like, infected for the last however many months pretty much exclusively, I've gotten a good ******** look at them. Few nights ago I ran into the actual ******** thing when I nearly got killed, Gale grabbed it and got consumed by the same ******** black s**t. It said it was looking for US. It knew my name, it knew Lucky's real name, the full ******** ******** of it. Neither of us use our actual names in a general way. It was the same ******** thing and that Sam chick implied it was exactly what I'd been ******** hunting too. She knew me as well."

He shook his head. "As for what it ******** feeds on, it's knowledge, I mean its made of it or something? But like. The people I almost got murdered by, some lab. Opus or something, had it contained but were trying to sacrifice people to it or some s**t. I don't know the details. Something was keeping it calm or trying to."

He wanted to mention Excalibur, to mention the blue shield around the grail, but didn't trust his own sanity or instincts to make sense of it all, to confirm he'd even seen any of it. Still, if anyone else could make use of it, he had to try. "Protection can fight it I think... I don't ******** know."

He held up his hands. "They don't pay me to think. I was sent to try and..I never know how ******** much is CLASSIFIED. I knew it'd come here, it ******** SAID it, but I couldn't TELL anyone. I couldn't WARN anyone. I can't ******** stress enough how dangerous this thing can be given half a chance, you were in the mall. What the ******** will happen if it gets like, US. Those were CIVILIANS mostly. None of ours DIED or changed. There was a ******** antidote we came up with and when it was tested on hunters I heard it got NASTY."

Dawson was yelling something about someone being down and the colour drained out of Rep's features. "Oh great, what is even ******** happening over there?"

Wilson's impatience also did not go unnoticed. Lucky responded like a trained dog, fully aware he was guilty, and did a few breathing exercises in appeasement. As much as he didn't want to believe they worked, it did seem to calm him down a little bit. At least, until he noticed Jack eyeing him back and the cycle of nervous fidgeting began anew.

"If he says it is," Lucky answered Rep with downcast eyes, "It probably is."

Shiloh remained a presence beside him. "She's-"

He grabbed Shiloh by the arm and walked him a couple of feet away from Ian and everyone else. Anyone who gawked was offered a nervous 'this is perfectly normal, go back to what you are doing and oh god stop staring at me please' smile. More whispering commenced. "Of course she's back. She's been doing - something - there were regular people there this time and they were happy to murder each other, and us, at her command. She claims she's been trying to contain this thing, but I think she has some kind of deal with it. She said the only way to keep it contained was to let it infect people, but thanks to a royal ********> it knows where we are and it said it was coming here."

"And I think that's what she wanted."

He gave Shiloh a pleading look, attempting to swear him to secrecy. "You know why I can tell them."

Maebe did not look with concern at the collapsing hunter, the way the two men did. Because she was the best Moon. Best.

"Newsflash. We are the medics. And whatever the hell is making you guys sick, is probably the same thing that just got to that guy. Aaaand it's probably the same thing that's making vines grow all over the island like we're about to be put to sleep."

She did not have high hopes for sleep.

"My suggestion would be the infirmary or labs, if we can even get to it anymore. If there's something that's going to make all of this go away, it's going to be in one of those places."

She never held out high hopes for the leads to save them. Except for Sunny, they never had before. And if there was any hope of finding Sunny, the infirmary was still their best bet.

"Options? Other than somebody else carrying Otto this time. My back is killing me."

Noemi had just finished a shift in the infirmary, slowly crawling her way to her room to lay her head down.

The alarms blared, barely ringing in her already ringing head but had her crawling back from the comforters.

"Melusine...." Noemi yawned, waiting for the mermaid to comfort her.

Silence.

"Mel?" Noemi asked now, startled that the mermaid didn't answer.

More silence.

"No...no no no...." She was a anxious creature, with no Mel, she was left to just...

"SHU!" She burst out of her room, looking in Shu's. "Milo?" Then his. No one.

It felt really silent without the ones she needed nearby.

Perhaps other hunters knew what was going on?

There was never a good time for an emergency, but that didn't stop Abbi from wishing that fate had chosen an hour that had at least allowed for a little bit more sleep.

She'd just gotten all snuggled down in her bed and begun to doze after a long shift in the infirm when the siren, mingled with her shriek, sent her up and out into the room. There was only a second or so before when she leapt off her bed and when her feet touched the floor, but that was enough time to ascertain that something was dreadfully wrong. Aside from the red light in her room and the blaring siren, of course.
Freckled hands clamped down against her temples and, feeling a bit stressed, Abbi indulged herself in letting loose a ridiculous scream. This has happened before, she's been robbed of her headmate before, but back then she knew it was happening and she knew how to fix it. Now it was just... Nothing, and the teen didn't work well with nothing.

With that done, and with no one in her head to tell her to get going when she knew that was the best course, the girl figured she should do something. But she wasn't sure what because, well, she was panicking... Quite a lot.
So much so that she got dressed (in something that didn't match in the least) and was nearly out her door before she remembered her phone. It was useless, but that did remind her she should probably grab her pre-packed bag of supplies and stop that whimpering noise.

Abbi couldn't quite stop herself from making little agitated hums and chirps, she hated this silence she hated this lonely silence, but at least she was only shaking wildly, as opposed to stumbling over herself, as she walked out her door and tried to find someone she knew among those rushing up and down the halls.
She took all of seven steps before she ran into someone.

Unlike other hunters, Cameron didn't seem to upset about not having the voice of his weapon. He'd actually be MORE surprised if his weapon actually SPOKE TO HIM.

He was literally almost like TWO STEPS outside his door when he was hit by a small redhead.

A redhead he knew well.

"Oi Shortstuff, you got somewhere to be?" He placed his hand on her head to keep her from moving away.

Normally, Creedence didn't actually mind living in the dungeon basement. Outside of the bathroom issue, it was in fact, metal as ********> But when the alarms went off she had to decide whether to stay in her room and bar the door from whatever was attacking and just ******** hide or run outside and away from like...the fire, or gas leak or nuclear meltdown...

She had no idea what was happening or which course to take, but the sirens were driving her crazy and just sitting there she felt she might actually go crazy-crazy thinking of all the things that could go wrong. So she ran. No missions meant she didn't have a mission kit to take. No courses meant she has no runic weapons. But she did remember to put on shoes, so there was that at least. She might be unarmed in pajamas but she was wearing shoes.

Reaching the courtyard full of actually experienced hunters, she felt immediately stupid and unprepared. Especially once she saw one collapse.

Arms crossed tightly over her chest, Creedence looked back toward the dorms, then to the wall of thorns. Her ears began to ring, and the girl looked suddenly looked a little nauseous. For a moment she couldn't even remember where she was.
