In the next room over, Jack heard the sound of glass shattering (his sleep schedule beyond ******** even with this forced attempt to try and regulate it with schooltime) and immediately went on red alert. Pocketing his phone midtext to Chel, he got to his feet and nudged Gale in passing. Stealth was not in his nature, but he was surprisingly quiet as he exited the room and toed his way towards the sound of battle. The intruder had the benefit of getting in through the window, but the door was still closed and locked. ******** one of his daggers, he jimmied away at the crevice where the bolt sat until, with a creak that suggested he probably had just jammed it from card use, he pried the door open.

All it took was one glance over to get his bearings and he was in the battle, slicing at the assailant with a quick attack from behind.

Jack and Finn's timely responses were noted and very much appreciated. Dawson got a gold star for defending Lex's sister, even if the siblings were still locked in a silent feud. A slash was registered to his left arm, and Lex returned with a shot to the chest.

It seemed to stagger the assailant, knocking him back a few feet and leaving him gasping for air.

Oliver was used to have nightmares, but it was a rare situation that he woke into one instead of waking from one. The crash of the window breaking jarred him awake, and at the sight of glowing runes in the dark he immediately summoned his weapon and got to his feet in a disoriented scramble.

He tripped awkwardly over Chance on the floor next to him, somehow just barely avoiding falling face-first back onto the carpet. But in the darkness his first concern was the girl on the small couch who had been snoring like a jackhammer half the night. Without even knowing if the noise had woken her, the kid just barely intercepted the attack aimed at Lydia.

The noise, sadly, hadn't actually woken Lydia. It was only after several shouts and more noises that she finally stirred, slowly stretching her arms above her head and yawning loudly. Even then, it took time for the fact that something was amiss to to filter into her brain, and she blinked bleary, unfocused, unlensed eyes at the darkness around her that was now lit with several different colors of runes from summoned weapons.

"Oh!" She cried out, finally realizing something not so good was going on, before she scrambled to kick herself free from her blanket, which was tangled around her feet. Falling with a yelp off of the couch and onto the floor, it was then that she noticed a pair of legs in front of her, and she grabbed a hold of one of these while she hoisted herself to her feet.

"Oh!" She echoed her previous exclamation. "Good morning, Oliver!" A large smile, even in the face of all that was going on around her (not to mention the fact that it could hardly be considered morning).

Finally noticing the dark figure in the room that everyone seemed to be going after, she grabbed for the young mans arm with one hand while summoning Rorric into her other.

Unfortunately for her, while she made a gallant attempt at whipping their assailant, her depth perception was way, way off when she wasn't wearing her glasses, and she was actually far more like to have just hit Oliver's weapon instead.

Using the butt of the pistol, Lex gave a sharp swing to the assailant's rib cage that sent the scrawny figure scrambling with a yowl out the unlocked and ajar door. Panting and checking himself for cuts, the Lifter gave a hard look at the group in the suite.

"Follow him." He ordered, pointing out the doorway with the barrel of Regal. This was no time for pussyfooting around.

Gale didn't need the nudge from Jack, his eyes having opened already to the crash; but the fact that he had done so in the first place was relatively surprising. He would have thought that the other would have just done his own thing, ignore him completely, but apparently that wasn't the case.

He was right on the heels of Jack, but the others had gotten to him first, Gale's rifle already summoned. Without a word, he followed, darting down the hallway.

Chance hadn't been sleeping at all, so Oliver tripping over him only made Chance look up in mild amusement.

"Watch your step," he said lightly, but not unkindly, and dragged himself vertical, glancing sideways at Dawson and Claude in the half darkness and almost shifting towards them before he remembered, a little belatedly, that he should be near Finn, his actual partner.

Chance slid sideways towards him, silent and calm, a light smile on his lips.

"Shall we?" he said, without looking at Finn, nodding down the hall as he began moving, feet already quickening his pace to catch the intruder.

The intruder practically ran straight into Jack, who was, to the assailant's credit, sort of in the way of the door. Recovering quickly (Finn recieved a look like this b***h, right?), it was his turn to follow at Gale's heels, quickly bridging the gap as his long legs were finally taken advantage of. He wondered vaguely just how many memories would have to get wiped after this little fiasco, though more importantly: what ******** dumbass broke in to attack that many hunters at once?

---

Okay good, Lydia was blind but safe, Claude hadn't been touched, and Chance wasn't sleep-deprived. Actually, could he ever be? That was the question...Wait, no it wasn't: who the hell was that guy?? Dawson's heart was still racing, and his hands trembled until Lex barked the order.

Gulping, he waited a bit to let others catch up before heading out.

After a ten minute pursuit consisting of dark alleys, frantic fence jumping, and winding roads that carved downhill paths to the beachfront, the unknown assailant finally stops in the realization that he is cornered. Panic sets in and he draws the knife closer to his chest, swinging around to face his pursuers with a dangerous spark dancing in his muddled green eyes.

He was the deer, here were the headlights.

But a stag, oh a stag could wreck a car and keep moving. A stag could still be free and not wind up roadkill. These...people, however supernatural or superhuman they were, they would be no match for a stag.

Candies went down his throat in rapid succession, bright wrappers discarded on the boardwalk's wooden planks. He smiled, though shaking worse than a child with a fever dream. He cackled loudly, madly, though his brain was afire and heart revving at 200RPM's. He was The Stag, and they were the prey. The dagger flashed in the reflection of his too wide pupils, dilated far beyond normal.

The group has encountered the assailant after a long chase to the boardwalk! It seems he's ingested a large quantity of FEAR candies, and he's ready to go down swinging! [

If being tall had one single advantage that Lex liked the most, it was the natural speed that came with long strides, allowing him to keep pace with shorter people who would otherwise be much faster than him. He realized in the back of his mind how silly they must have looked, all in their sleep clothes and running at top speed through the city. If God did him any favors, they wouldn't pass any cops on the way down.

Lex himself was in a shirt and sweatpants, barefoot because there's been no time to put on his shoes. The asphalt hurt as it bit into his heels with every hard step, but the shield kept shattered beer bottles and jagged rocks from doing any major damage.

He reached the boardwalk in time to see the wrappers drop and muttered a 's**t' under his breath as the rapid change in personality and power occurred,

"I want him alive." Lex said to the rest, particularly eyeing Jack and Finn. "Only kill him if we absolutely must. He's an essential piece of evidence."

After his initial swing, Finn let the others do there thing, his gaze instead scanning the room for those he was surely meant to be looking after (offense was not really in his job description after all). Jack had arrived, light from the hallway spilling in briefly before it was blotted out by his overly tall form, and the moon hunter cast him a glance with a small smirk, before moving his eye elsewhere.

Ripley was fine, and Chance was well....on the floor, but probably alright as long as he didn't get stepped on. Oliver was off being heroic for Lydia, which would have been eyebrow raising if there weren't other concerns on the table currently.

Finn had just stepped closer to Chance when the assailant shot past Jack and Gale and out of the room.

"Nice catch, Jackie." Finn mocked, though he continued to smirk, before he gave Chance a sidelong glance.

"I suppose." He sighed, a little over dramatically, before following suit and booting it out the door and wherever this little chase would take them.

-----

Well this was certainly interesting. Sort of. Okay, not really, which was why Finn wasn't in life division, after all. After a long, overly drawn out pursuit, they had their earlier assailant cornered, and he seemed to have found himself some courage in Fear candy form.

Whatever. Finn was just there to be a meat shield, anyways. Weapon summoned once more, he stepped up to give Chance some cover so that the other man could attack.

"Try not to miss." He advised with a rather dead pan drawl.

Lydia found her glasses, and grabbing for Oliver's sleeve, she gave the young man a tug towards the door, eyes wide. "Oh, oh! He's getting away! Come on!" She said, while running (see: stumbling) towards the door, tripping over blankets, pillows, and bodies if there still were any just lying about.

----

Oh, how incredibly fascinating the transformation in their little attackers personality was when those candies were shoved into his mouth and swallowed! Lydia had, of course, skidded up behind most of the others, her shorter legs not giving her much advantage in a high speed pursuit.

At Lex's command, she jumped to attention, Rorric summoned to hand. "Yes, sir!" She called out, ducking around people and moving forward, aiming to disarm the man by lashing out at his runic weapon wielding arm with her whip.

Lex fired rounds in quick succession at the assailant, trying to keep back from the b*****d but ended up cut in quite a few parts of his shield. Avoiding him was like avoiding air, or ducking from the wind. Whatever that FEAR candy did to him, it wasn't good for them.

But, he had to wager, it wouldn't be good for the shadowy figure either.

Jack's initial response was to pause and consider the implications of civilians being able to amp themselves up on Fear-based food, especially considering that Hunters got sick eating just minipet kibble. Did these humans have a different gene that made them resistant enough to Fear that benefits could be gained, or was it just a side effect of shoving so many pellets in at once?

Questions to answer later. Lex wasn't the only one who wanted this one alive, and so Jack carefully made a cut when an opportunity presented itself, weathering through a wild punch with a grimace.

His breathing hadn't slowed down at all - quite the opposite, in fact. More erratic, irregular jerking of the limbs and eyes rapidly flashing back and forth. The shaking was unstoppable, teeth chattering as he swung and dove among the irregulars.

He tasted iron, but it didn't completely register. He just kept swinging, he was a ******** God. They would fall before him and he would grind their bones into bread.

Well, she had tried. Okay, maybe she'd actually spent more time studying their assailant then actually attempting to hit it, which earned her a glancing strike that sent her reeling to the side.

Woops!
