Elm was admittedly a bit surprised at how accepting Christian was about the news on how he was not in his database. He fidgeted a bit with a pen in the pocket of his labcoat, a bit awkwardly perplexed. "O-oh." he simply replied, resuming his fidgeting for a bit before the other asked if he could register as a trainer, admitting he didn't know anything about the starters in the process. "Well certainly! Of course I can get you registered as a trainer in a... um, well rather quickly, that is to say..." he bumbled in response, already tapping around in his computer to start the process for his pokedex and trainer id.
Once the machine was processing the information, the professor straightened up, going over to a counter where he had three balls, each containing one of the starters. "As for the starters, here I have -" Elm started to explain, reaching over to try and grab all three in his two hands, but instead one rolled away, popping open on the floor to release a chikorita. The grass type seemed a bit dizzy, but slowly perked up to check out the new trainer. "O-oh dear.... um, This is a Chikorita, the leaf pokemon. It's a grass type that has quite a nice smell to it." he explained, embarrassed about his fumble. He released cyndaquill next. The small mousey pokemon squinted around, snuffling when released. "This one is a Cyndaquil, the fire mouse pokemon. It's a fire type that will emit a blazing fire on it's back when startled." Elm informed the other, then released the final starter. "And this is a Totodile, the big jaw pokemon. It's a water type that ... well, it's really good at biting. I'd be careful about that. N-not that it makes Totodile a bad choice at all, no! All of these starters are equally swell!" the professor rambled.

The professor was a rather nervous man, wasn't he? Was it because of him? While he doubted that was the case, the question still presented itself to him. Thankfully it didn't linger, and Christian concluded that the man was simply always like this, which wasn't a bad thing. Nah, he actually liked that about the professor. Stifling a laugh at the fumble, Christian's attention fell from the human to the small plant creature that appeared from the same ball the professor had fumbled. With his interest piqued, he got down onto his knees, observing the leaf pokemon from a safe distance, until it became curious of him and toddled over. "What's up, little dude?" Was it a dude, or a dudette-- did anyone even still use the latter? Questions began forming in his mind, all fighting for the spotlight, but before he could settle on just one two more pokemon were released, and Christian's eyes became as wide as saucers.
One that could start a fire, another that was a professional biter, and... one that smelled nice. Christian had to admit, out of the three starters the grass' description was a tad... underwhelming. That being said! He did like nice smelling things, and the leaf pokemon reminded him of the forest, which he loved, so underwhelming it was! Unless he could have all three... Nah, he doubted that the professor, as kind as he was, was that generous. Oh well. Christian stood to his feet, brushed the knees of his pants off, then gave one last, cursory look at all three starters; maybe, in the future, he would have the chance to have all three. "You're right, Prof. They're all swell," he agreed, and chuckled lightly at the term. "But, I'll have to go with the leaf pokemon." He stopped and frowned. Now what was its name again? Chickpea... Chiquita.. Chiko... He snapped his fingers at each suggestion, before giving one final snap and pointing to the right pokemon, exuding confidence. "Chikorita!" Now this time, he knew he had it right, which had to be a sign, right? He and this pokemon were meant to be together.
-scuttles on the ceiling above you, shedding fur everywhere-
Despite having kept the descriptions of each starter rather simple, it was enough for Christian to make his decision. Which was, that he chose Chikorita. "Very good! I will get you all set for your adventure with Chikorita. O-oh, here, take this." the professor smiled, then handed over chikorita's ball before returning the other two starters, setting their balls back down. He then moved about the lab, gathering up supplies, as well as getting a pokedex ready for him. Thankfully, the computer had finished registering Christian, spitting out a trainer id, which he gave to the blond. "Here you are. A pokedex, some potions and pokeballs, and you are registered in the database now. I hope for you and Chikorita to have a safe, fun journey!" Elm said, handing over the supplies and wishing the young man well. Hopefully, he'll be able to figure out his other memory problem along the way.

Christian took hold of the pokeball, stared long at it, then tossed it up and snagged it out of the air. "Alright!" He flashed a grin to Chikorita, who stared at his facial expression for several seconds before copying it with a cheerful chirp, with an accompanying leaf wiggle. He laughed, "You're alright." Excitement brimming, as well as the returning hunger, the blonde turned back to the professor just in time to accept the items given to him; there were certainly a lot. "Thanks a lot, professor! I really appreciate it!" Making sure to thank the professor, he slung his bookbag back onto his bag, now a bit heavier with his new 'swag', and waved to the man, as well as the few assistants around, before he motioned for Chikorita to follow him. "Let's follow the professor's advice: a safe, and fun journey awaits us!" Christian exclaimed, and with a happy chirp it toddled after him. He pushed the door open, wide enough for him and his brand new pokemon, then let it swing shut once Chikorita was through.

Karen stood outside of a large building with a pokeball on it. Looking down at the brochure that had "Welcome to Johto" on it, Karen let out a small smile. It had taken some time, but she finally found the pokemon research center in the town. It had been a long flight from her town in the Washtom Region, but this is where she had told her mother she would start her Journey of adventure. Luckily, she had distant relatives living in this region that could pick her up, but then, where didn't she have a distant Aunt.
Karen was a Joy, but not in the Happiness type of Joy. She was the daughter of Nurse Joy in the Washtom Region, but she didn't like the idea of being a Nurse. She loved pokemon, but couldn't stand the idea of being trapped as a nurse for the rest of her life, so would always fight with her mother, when she mentioned anything of being a nurse to Karen. She wanted to explore and have experiences. It was after one of there fights, that they finally agreed to something. Perhaps going on an adventure with pokemon would be a good thing. It might finally settle Karen down enough to possible think of becoming a nurse, an idea held more by her mother, which Karen said was doubtful, but would also let Karen have some experiences. Making some calls, Karen's mother got a hold of Johto regions Nurse Joys, to inform them of Karen visiting the region. She wanted both her Distant relatives, to keep an eye on Karen as she went about the region, as a mother always worried for her child. It had been a long but enjoyable flight flying from her region to Johto, before being picked up by the nurse Joy closest to the airport and being dropped off in New Bark Town.
Back to now, Karen felt a tug on her leg from her partner pokemon. Next to her was Titania, her Clefairy companion that had come with her on her journey. Titania gave a concern look to Karen, as to ask if everything was OK. Karen just smiled back at her and said " I'm fine Titania. I was just thinking to myself." The concern look on Titania disappeared to be replaced with a happy smile and "Cleffarr"of Titania. "Lets go inside and see what things look like inside, Titania," she would say as she started moving towards the entry to the building. Pushing the door to the building, she would examine the interior of the building. It was full of many different things. Upfront were stacks of bookshelves full of books possible detailing pokemon, with machines in the back. Though the area seemed active, she couldn't see the person she was looking for. Possible to find the professor she shouted, "Hello? Professor Elm?"

Looks good to me. tho -squints- is she really 13? XD there's no problem with that but I'll tell you as a heads up that most others are older than that here. In case that mattered to you at all.
Professor elm was busy scratching his head about some of his old reports. They didn't seem to make sense but... that was most likely due to them being out of order and mixed with other reports. Possibly due to him dropping them at some point and hurriedly picking them up and piling them up before moving on to something else. He was interrupted from his thoughts as he heard a new voice in his lab, calling out to him. "I'll be there in a moment!" he called back, setting down the papers as he had found them before going out to greet the other.
The most noticeable thing, admittedly, was the girl's pink hair. Before he could think about what it reminded him of, he opted to approach. "Hello! I'm Professor Elm.... i m-mean you probably already knew that but- oh, you must be hear to start your pokemon adventure, right?" he greeted a bit awkwardly, but smiled nonetheless. "Do you happen to know the starters you can choose from?"

while waiting for the professor to show up, Karen glanced around the room. It looked like a Tornadus had blown through, but all that thought was pushed to the back of her mind as the professor showed up. He stumbled over an introduction while Karen tried to had a small smile. He then asked her what would be her starter. I didnt know i could get a starter? Karen said, then thinking to herself on what pokemon she would like. She wasnt to favorable of fire type pokemon, so cynndiquil was out of the question. She liked water type pokemon, but after thinking for a second, she can to the idea. "I would like a Chikorita. I heard they are very friendly pokemon."
Then a thought came to her and she studdered out an introduction. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't introduce myself. I'm Karen Jo...er...um not wanting to show connections to who she was related to, but thnking it would also be offensive to share her last name, she spoke softly with a slightly flustered face. Joy.

"Why, of course you can get a starter pokemon! You are a budding new trainer, right? I mean... you don't have to take a starter if you don't want... J-just know that it is part of my job to make sure each trainer that comes to me to start their journey is well equipped." Elm smiled, straightening his glasses on his face. She seemed like she was familiar enough with the starter choices to decide, so that was nice. It took her a moment before she finally vocalized her decision. "Ah, Chikorita can be very tranquil - did you know that they can produce alluring aromas?" he smiled, then got right to gathering up supplies for her, as well as registering her to a pokedex. As he did so, she introduced herself, but seemed to hesitate at her last name. "Oh... Oh! A Joy! No wonder you looked so oddly familiar- er, sorry. It's just fascinating how many Nurse Joys pass on such a distinct trait, causing them to often be indistinguishable- ah, i'm rambling, sorry." he commented, then shut himself up in embarrassment. He completed registering the pokedex to her name, gathering up some supplies and her very own Chikorita before turning to her, handing over the goods. "H-here you are, Karen. A Chikorita, a pokedex and some potions and pokeballs to help you get started." he told her, then pushed his glasses up his nose with a bit of a smile. "I hope you will have a great adventure! If you ever need anything else, don't be afraid to ask."

Karen smiled as the professor handed her a pokeball with Chikorita inside of it. Pointing it at the ground, she spoke while pressing the button to release it from its pokeball. "Come on out." A beam of light traveled from the ball to the ground to reveal a small green creature with a leaf on its head. It let out a happy Chika sound. "Hi there little friend. Want to go on adventure with me?" The chikorita nodded in approval. "Well lets figure out a name for you." Leaning down, she put a finger to her mouth as she thought of some names. After a littlebit of deliberating, she smiled and said a name. "Chikapea." Chikapea let out a sound of agreement and with that Karen returned her to her pokeball.
Karen then took the pokeballs, potions, and Pokedex from the professor and added them to her bag, before bowing to him and thanking him. She then turned around and walked out the door to the town with Titania behind her.

Either way the wonders of public transit had gotten him here, and he was determined. The Lab was cold, and there a near constant hum of machines and the whispered chatter of lab assisstants. It's hard to get a proper read on the room, but from what he had heard it was the best to just walk forward (especially since he was worried about his cane snagging wires and knocking things over).
Still, he's anxious. He was solid in his ideas but, if he failed at it he would never forgive himself. But he was here now, there was no going back, that would be even worse. So, Su Yan sucks in a deep breath through his nose and out through his mouth, holds his cane closer to his chest and steps across the tiled floor. It seemed much too smooth under his shoes and the hum was growing deafening. though that could all be in his head, anxieties letting his senses be on hyper mode and drown him out. However, he keeps going, passes a narrower passage that seemed to have ticking machines on either side and stood his ground in a slightly quieter part of the lab.
Someone was tapping away at keys, probably on a computer. Was this person Elm? Well, there was really no way to find out unless he asked and assumed. He wanted to come off as more confident and competent then he was, so he could be entrusted with a pokemon. His first Pokemon. One he could use to start his contest endeavors. So another breath is taken.
Professor Elm was typing away at his computer at his desk, going over his research. Perhaps he was too absorbed into this, because he was a bit startled as a voice spoke up to him. He looked up, and was surprised to see a new face. "O-oh, hello there!" he greeted, getting up from his desk. Admittedly, he felt a bit shocked by the scars on the young man's face, but he felt too bad about it to ask any questions or draw attention to it in case it was a sensitive matter. "I'm Professor Elm. What brings you here to my lab today? A new trainer, perhaps?" he asked. Further observations on this newcomer was that it seemed he was likely blind, so he would keep that in mind when handling his requests.

He had heard various stories of professors to be the type to get so involved in work the world could crash down around their ears and they would fail to notice. At least, that is what he had heard. Who knew if it had any bearing. Su Yan can hear as the man notices, gets up and moves to better speak to him. Su Yan bows slightly at the man. The anxiety is ebbing away a bit and being replaced with a sort of confidence. He had gotten this far, of course he shoudl be allowed to. It's what he truly wants and he will pursue it to the end.
"Professor Elm, it's nice to meet you." Then it's asked, yes, of course, that would be asked why else would people come here? Su Yan fishes in his pocket for a few things "Yes, in a way," he says as he finds a wallet first "I hope to be a coordinator, actually" he specifies as he digs the second item a rather mushy RageCandyBar, it had melted a bit on the long journey here. Something he shows at least a little bit of shame for, but there was no spare so it was really the only hope he had in bribing the professor proving himself worthy of one of the rare starter pokemon and the right to call himself a proper pokemon owner. Both items are handed over (the wallet to verify ID and be able to actually be registered as a licensed trainer/coordinator). Well, by handed over it is much more like Su Yan holds the items out in the general direction of Elm's voice and hoping he would take it from there. "So yes, I would like a pokemon, please."
Elm fidgeted a bit with a pen in his labcoat pocket as the young man greeted him, responding to his inquiry. He felt rude for staring at the other's face, though he had determined the man was blind. "Ah, Coordinating is just as fulfilling as battling. You must be planning to visit Hoenn or Sinnoh after...." he replied, then mumbled a bit as he thought of the options for coordinators. Wasn't Kalos going to join in on that? He had been so preoccupied in his studies about pokemon breeding that he hadn't had the time to look into it recently.
The professor blinked as the young man tried handing over his wallet and what appeared to be a ... slightly melted candy bar. "O-oh, there's no need for that! Coordinators are still eligible to have a starter pokemon, after all." Elm insisted, only taking the wallet briefly to look at the id. He noted the information he needed from the id before returning it to the wallet and into Su Yan's hand. "If you would - a-actually, stay right here. I'll be right back with the starters you can choose from, Su Yan." Elm started to ask for him to follow, but thought better of it and told him to stay put. His lab was a bit on the messy side, and he didn't want to risk the newcomer bumping or tripping over anything.
He didn't take long to return to Su Yan, pondering the whole way how he should be introducing the starters to a blind man. "I'm back! haha, i hope i didn't keep you waiting for too long. Er, to your left there's a mostly empty table. I'm going to release the starters up there for you." Elm informed Su Yan, then moved to do so. First, he released Chikorita, who gave a little trill. "This one is Chikorita, the leaf pokemon. Our grass starter here is very aromatic- that is, they produce quite lovely smells." he introduced, then fumbled the balls a bit. Next to be released from the ball was an eager Totodile that hopped in place, scattering a few loose papers to the floor. Oh dear. "Ah, this is Totodile, the big jaw pokemon. They uh.... well, they do have quite a bite. B-but I assure you, this water starter can make just as great a partner as any other starter... heheh..." Elm continued, then released the final starter from it's ball. The Cyndaquil merely squeaked a bit, rubbing it's face and sniffing about upon coming out. "And last but not least, here is Cyndaquil, the fire mouse pokemon. This fire starter is rather timid, but can defend itself with the flames on it's back." he replied, standing by for a moment as the starters were all introduced. They were all still well behaved enough that he shouldn't have to worry about looking away for a moment to register Su Yan to a pokedex and get him in the system.

Glad that he agreed or at least said he thought that way. He sometimes felt like the separate schools of Pokemon Training were at odds with one another.
"Yes. I feel raising them only fight is... dangerous." and perhaps rather cruel. Yes, they were working with pokemon, but the performance nature, working in tandem with a pokemon to both make something unique and beautiful always appealed much more to him than the act of letting Pokemon bite and scratch at each other to find a victor. Though, then again his own experiences and biases did color his opinion somewhat, of course. And it was a bias he surely was going to have to overcome, Su Yan didn't want his fear of battles to control him, part of why he wanted to do this in a sort of journey format. Catching pokemon would, in a way ease him into dealing with wild pokemon and, competing with others in a setting with them. Once he felt he was ready, he was sure he could still go home and ask for that job he always wanted.
If they would still have him.
As Elm tells him to stay put he gives a nod, he has as little interest in knocking over, tripping or scattering the professor's work as Elm did. Instead, he makes himself a little more comfortable. Less rigid stance, releasing tension from his shoulders and rubbing a hand along the back of his neck. He doesn't feel like a long time, that the professor is gone. It seems rather quick. With the help of the man's instructions and white cane hitting one of the legs of the table, his hand can find the cool surface of the lab table. "Here?" he ponders aloud, then when it was affirmed he stops to study the pokemon as they were released.
The first was Chikorita.
A strong smell hit his nose and the soft sound of the pokemon. Like wind whistling through long grass, or perhaps the whistle his mother could do when a leaf was pressed to her lips. He reaches out to touch the pokemon. It feels smooth and strange. It was for sure a grass type. But already his mind was working for contest appeal. He quite liked pretty and cute things back when he could see, and those standards were still in place now. just changed in criteria. Her voice was rather silent, and while the smell was pleasant it was unlikely it could be a turning factor in performances (and, he was one of those rare people who loved the smell of glooms, so can he trust his nose at this one?)
Next was Totodile who, from the description, Elm gave and the noise of pure energy that there was already a few fear-based red flags going off in his head. Energetic. Bitey. Hard to control. Of course, he didn't want full subservience of a pokemon, but he also didn't want a pokemon that was hard to predict a possible danger. Su Yan doesn't even dare try and reach out to it, instead, he seems to recoil a bit from it, moving on rather quickly.
The last pokemon squeaked. Like, an adorable, high pitch squeak. The fear melted a bit and was replaced with a small smile as he reaches for the thing, hand recoiling a bit at the mention of flames, old burn wounds still visible on parts of his arm. But that was a Charizard. That was a battle pokemon. This little guy was a blank slate, and, seemed just about as afraid of Su Yan as he was of it. In a way, he felt a bit of comradery there. So hand goes back out, it's met with some of the softest furs he's felt. Cyndaquil seems to lean into the touch and squeaks at him again. It was cute.
He realizes he had been scratching the Cyndaquil's face for a rather long moment and pulls back, trying to appear more professional, as if his license to own a pokemon could be revoked by the professor.
"It's like this Cyndaquil, please. I think we have something in common and I would love to grow together," he speaks at the general direction he had last heard the professor's voice come from.

The professor watched as Su Yan went about making his decision. Perhaps he didn't do totodile much justice, though this specimen indeed was proving to be more energetic than most. However, the blind male seemed to settle on the cyndaquil, the fire type rather content with his touch. "Ah, excellent choice." Elm replied, returning the other two unchosen starters to their balls. He then turned to Su Yan, reaching out to try and put the cyndaquil's ball into his grasp. "Here is Cyndaquil's ball. O-oh, I also have something else for you before you leave, though." he told the other. Elm then turned away, unplugging the newly registered pokedex from the computer, and gathering some potions and pokeballs from a nearby drawer. "Here is your pokedex! It also acts as your trainer id! Once you get to a contest hall, they will be able to officially change your status to Coordinator. Er... also, I have some pokeballs and potions for your journey - um, do you want me to put them in your bag for you?" he handed over the pokedex, then furrowed his brows as he tried to figure out the best method to distribute the potions and pokeballs to Su Yan.
