Just as planned, Xue took the lead, acting as a decoy to draw in the Zubat's attack, but Wori Wori slid in last second to take the damage. The croc then quickly retaliated with a powerful Ice Punch. The second Zubat retreated, leaving only one more left to face Wori Wori's powerful punch. It was to bad that Zubat are blind, as it didn't see what had happened to it's friends. Though, they could of warned it just the same to back away, since this wasn't going to end well for it, or any Flying or Grass-type in the forest. Ice-type moves seemed dominate around here, which meant, the stronger Xue got the better, she could likely manage weaker Pokemon on her own, but for now this was the best way to get her strengthened up. She was such a frail looking Pokemon.

Swooping in the Zubat hit Wori Wori once more with a Wing attack, after she came in to take the hit for Xue. returning an Ice Punch, she sent the bat flying away in a panic. Despite her triumph over all three bats, Wori Wori was starting to get tired. There appeared to be a small break in the onslaught of Pokemon, so Wei called Wori Wori and Xue over for some quick heals. Xue didn't need any, but Wei didn't want to risk the little deer being left exposed for someone or something to attack her while Wori Wori was being tended to. It didn't take long thankfully, a few potions and Wori Wori was feeling refreshed and ready to rumble once more. Turning back towards the forest, she tromped forward, Xue at her tail. Though she wasn't actually doing any fighting, Wei could tell, Xue was learning. The tiny deer even seemed to have an... aura about her now. Like she was feeling far more confident in herself.

As the two of them returned to the treeline, a Weedle wriggled its way down the side of a tree, and hissed at the two of them. Apparently, it wanted a battle as well. behind it was a wriggly little Caterpie, also seemingly ready for a battle. A double battle seemed inevitable, since they both launched an attack, though Wori Wori was quick, and quickly felled the Weedle with an Ice Punch. In the end, Xue and Wori Wori were victorious, though Wori Wori had been poisoned during the battle. Calling her over, Wei offered a Lum Berry, which the Croc accepted, though it was hard to tell if she'd actually chewed the berry. It seemed to work, clearing up the sickly look in her eyes. "We should be careful about poison. I don't have an unlimited amount of these berries." Wei mentioned. Though, couldn't she grow more? Perhaps, but as it were she didn't have the means to do so. "Might have to hold onto at least one, so I can grow more later." Perhaps Goldenrod City had some berry pots she could acquire?

Placing the berries back in her bag for now, Wei looked up to find Three Kakuna's now dangling from the tree's, each stared intently at Wei and her Pokemon. A Cocoon by nature, it didn't have much it could do, but Wei was still weary because it was also still a Poison-type. "Alright, Xue, Wori Wori be cautious." Wei warned, as the two of them stepped forward. Handing two of them would only leave one to deal with afterward, but there was no saying what could appear next, hopefully it wasn't something even more troublesome to their training.

"Hmm... Perhaps this isn't the best place to be training." Wei muttered. She was down to 2 berries, which wasn't good. Who knows how many Weedle or Kakuna they would run into. "Why don't we make a break for Goldenrod a bit early, Hm?" Wei suggested. Wori wori bobbed her head up and down as she chomped on her Lum berry. Xue and Lu also appeared the agree. If only the could deal with the Weedle and Kakuna before they landed their Poisoning attack, all would be fine. A battle well fought, Wei ended up the victor, luckily with no Pokemon fainted either. "Phew, that was a tough battle." Wei mentioned, making the boy feel a bit better about his loss, though if Wei had started with Lan se through the whole battle.. it would have been sourly one-sided. "Well, I'd say you're going to outmatch Whitney faster than me. So I better get to training!" The boy exclaimed. Wei nodded her head. "Anyway, if you wanna get out of the forest, you can just head north from here, it'll take you right around the lake and you won't need to go the long way." He instructed. "Believe me, I practically grew up in these woods." Wei offered a chuckle before she and the boy finally parted ways.
She'd of liked to stay in the forest just a bit longer, but without proper protection from Poison-type Pokemon, it wasn't going be long before she had to go to Goldenrod anyway. Might as well train in the city itself, besides she was eager to see what the big city looked like. She'd only traveled through a few small towns, Violet City wasn't entirely that big, and it was very old fashioned, not like Goldenrod which was more modern. Sure enough, while Wei thought about what the big city was going to have in store for her, she came to a large gatehouse. "Alright, we're of-" Before she could say much more a Paras scuttled out into the path ahead of them, raising it's pincers in offense. "Oh?" It seemed the were going to have to deal with one more Pokemon. Motioning Xue forward, the tiny deer, readied herself for one last forest battle.

✦ ✦Aiden quickly sped past the entrance to Ilex Forest with Aria and Thalia beside him, nervously alternating between watching the Xtransceiver on his wrist and the path ahead of him so he wouldn’t run facefirst into a tree. The line rung once, twice, thrice… and a couple more times afterwards before finally going dead. No answer. Aiden grit his teeth and silently cursed, momentarily pausing in his stride to raise his other hand to dial the number again. However, a gentle hand took hold of his hand and held it still, and he glanced up to look into the soft eyes of Aria.”I think it’s best to just leave it for now, Aiden…”she said softly, nodding towards the Xtransceiver,”I know you’re worried about Natalia and that you want to make sure she’s alright, but she might be busy and can’t answer right now. I’m sure she’ll call you sometime later, just have a little patience, okay?”Despite his worries, Aiden knew that Aria had a point, if Natalia was wondering about where he was she might call him back a little later. He wasn’t entirely certain why she hadn’t picked up, but he supposed that he could let it go for now. ”Yeah, I guess you’re right, Aria,” he conceded with a touch of reluctance in his voice, withdrawing his hand back and letting it hang at his side as the Delphox slowly released it, ”If anything, it at least seems that the call was going through. So we can definitely rule out the possibility that her Xtransceiver was broken, turned off, or otherwise deactivated…” And that certainly was reassuring to know, in spite of how minute it was.
”I’m sure Natalia’s fine, sweetheart. She’s a tough girl, I’m sure she can take care of herself wherever she may be,”Aria reassured with a bright smile, lightly tapping a finger to the side of her head in a knowing fashion,”Call it… a Delphox’s intuition~ Besides, as long as Nyomii’s with her, I doubt there’s really much to really worry about there~”Aiden couldn’t help but smile at that, and he had to admit that Aria’s reassurance was fairly comforting. ”Heh, I suppose you’re right with that too~” he agreed with a soft chuckle and a nod. Of course, naturally the Delphox would have a lot of faith in her Espeon friend given how chummy they were towards each other, but it certainly was far from misplaced or unfounded. Nyomii, being experienced in teaching, was probably the best candidate to act as a guide to Natalia all things considered.”So, how about for now we focus on other things?”the Delphox suggested, gesturing towards Aiden,””I think our first order of business should be getting you a change of clothes and some food in your stomach. You’ve been wearing that jinbei since Tanabata, and it’s probably best to change into something a bit more… casual. I'll have to change out of my own yukata as well, speaking of. And Arceus knows how long it’s been since you’ve last eaten, if we’re going to be training to take on Whitney it’ll be best to have a full stomach first~”Ah, right, now that they were back in Johto, they should pick back up from where they had left off. And now that Aria mentioned it, Aiden could hear his stomach growling hungrily, how long had it been since he’d last eaten? ”Sure, sounds like a plan~ We’re closer to Goldenrod anyways, so we can just turn back the way we came and make a quick trip back for some food and a change of clothes,” he agreed, more than eager to change into some fresh clothes and have a nice, hot meal.✦ ✦

✦ ✦With their plan of action decided, Aiden and his Pokemon did a complete 180 pivot back the way they came. He could certainly use a bit of a refresh with a change of clothes and a good meal, not to mention he’d need some time to try to come up with a plan of action for going up against Whitney. ”Here, Thalia~” he said with a warm smile, holding his arms out towards the Sylveon as an invitation. The Fairy-type gave a happy mew and wasted no time leaping into his arms, curling up into a comfortable ball and leaning her head against his shoulder.”Aiden…”she spoke softly, wrapping her calming ribbons around him in a firm yet gentle embrace. The Sylveon couldn’t help but feel somewhat anxious with the lack of Natalia’s presence, even though she was still rather shaken by what had happened back in Berry Forest… She truly hoped the girl was okay, wherever she may be, and she hoped Aria’s intuition was indeed correct and that they would meet back up with her sooner or later. She could tell Aiden was just as worried about Natalia as she was, but for now, it was probably for the best that they focus on other things first.
Aiden smiled as he gently stroked Thalia’s soft pink fur, the warm, calming aura emanating from her ribbons helping to ease his nerves a little. He still held onto that little pill of worry for Natalia in the back of his mind, but he was willing to trust Aria’s intuition that she would be fine between being able to take care of herself coupled with Nyomii’s guidance. Gently cradling the Sylveon in his arms, Aiden walked alongside Aria as they walked at a brisk but leisurely pace back towards Goldenrod. As much as he would’ve liked to take his time a little more, his stomach was growling insistently, practically demanding that it wanted food and it wanted it NOW. The sooner he got some good food into him, the better. In fact, maybe they should grab something to eat first, changing clothes could definitely wait a little longer. Aria seemed to understand, as he noticed the Delphox flashing him a warm smile and a nod of agreement at the unspoken idea out of the corner of his eye.✦ ✦

✦ ✦Roughly 10 minutes of walking later, Aiden could already see the treeline marking the exit of Ilex Forest towards Goldenrod. In good time too, his hunger was only growing more and more intense with each passing minute. Any thoughts of what he could possibly do to prepare for Whitney’s Gym were drowned out among thoughts of food, and while the default place to go grab a bite was the Pokemon Center’s cafeteria he would be remiss to not try out one of the many restaurants and food stalls that lined the streets of Goldenrod. Considering how she seemed to have an eye for good gifts and nice-looking outfits, he wouldn’t be surprised if Aria had at least a few places in Goldenrod that she would recommend checking out. Speaking of… he hadn’t noticed Aria lagging behind a little bit until he looked back towards where she’d been and noticed she wasn’t there. ”What is it?” he asked, pausing in his stride to glance back at where the Delphox was and noticed her pulling a rather large-sized burlap sack from a nearby low-hanging branch.”I noticed this hanging here out of the corner of my eye. I think it was left here by someone,”she said, quickly walking over and handing the bag over to him. Curious, Aiden took it, untying the thin rope that sealed it up and peering inside.
The bag was absolutely full of stuff, two different kinds of mushrooms, a glowing stone that he recognized as an Eviolite, a thick black belt that he knew was an Expert Belt, a small box containing five Rare Candies, some Leftovers, and… was that a GS Ball in there too? How strange… one would think that if this had belonged to someone they would have kept it, especially when it contained something as rare as a GS Ball of all things. ”Rather odd that someone would willingly want to throw all of this away, especially with all of this stuff…” he murmured, blue eyes glistening thoughtfully, ”Still, I suppose that if this hasn’t been claimed by anyone else, would be a shame to let all of it just go to waste. Some of these could actually be really useful in the long run.” Aria gave a nod of agreement as Aiden placed the burlap sack into his own bag, he would sort out some of this stuff among his team a little later. As they made their way out through the forest’s exit, Aiden could’ve sworn that for a brief moment, he had felt a sharp gaze piercing through him. Though he didn’t have time to really think on it, as the feeling was gone just as quickly as it had come.✦ ✦

✦ ✦Crossing beneath the canopy of trees leading into Ilex Forest was an all-too familiar feeling, which was to be expected considering that they had been here not all that long ago. ”To boldly go where we have gone before,” Aiden thought jokingly to himself with a small smile, already trying to think of some strategies that he could use that could help him beat Whitney. So far, Thalia and Kaizer were his strongest team members, so it would make more sense to work on some of the others too so that he’d have better backup to fall back on if things started going south. The fact that he was also lacking a Fighting or Steel-type was also somewhat worrisome, but surely it wasn’t exactly an absolute necessity if he had solid strategies to go off of. Though to be fair, the only Pokemon that would prove more worrisome to take down on Whitney’s team was her Miltank. Under normal circumstances, Annabelle, being a Ghost-type, would be the best matchup on his team for it. Only thing was that Whitney’s Miltank had the Scrappy ability, so not even normally immune Ghost-types were safe from the cow Pokemon’s devastating Body Slam and Stomp attacks. Still, maybe that wouldn’t be so worrisome if he had a means of shutting it down somehow… Rollout could still prove troublesome even without Scrappy, but it required several turns to really build up power and could easily be stopped with a well-placed Hypnosis or even paralysis. Being able to inflict the Miltank with a severe status condition would be helpful too… while he unfortunately lacked a means of poisoning it, which would arguably be the most effective, paralyzing or putting it to sleep would have to work in lieu of that.
Reaching into his bag, he pulled out a few Pokeballs and tossed them out, releasing Samoa, Daguerro, and Annabelle. The Jolteon yipped happily, clearly quite excited at the prospect of training, while Samoa growled deeply and made a show of cracking his knuckles and popping his neck a couple of times.”Training time already? Ahhhh, I’m so excited!! I promise I won’t let you down~”Annabelle chimed cheerfully, doing a little excited jig as she floated in the air around Aiden. The blonde-haired boy couldn’t help but chuckle at his team’s antics, it almost felt like it did back in the day with his old team… ”Alright, team, we’re going to have to do some pretty intensive training, especially if we want to beat Whitney and her notorious Miltank,” he said with a light laugh, reaching into his bag and retrieving a few things from inside, the Big Mushroom, Rare Candies, Leftovers, and Eviolite. ”So first, I think we’ll need to rearrange some items that might be more useful for this fight. Samoa, could you give me your Rocky Helmet, and Dag, could you hand over your Quick Claw?” Daguerro was happy to hand over the claw, the Jolteon wiggling happily as he dropped it neatly into Aiden’s hand. Samoa was a bit reluctant to hand over his Rocky Helmet, though after a moment of deliberation he handed it over. Smiling warmly, Aiden tucked the Rocky Helmet back into his bag for the time, and handed the Quick Claw over to Annabelle. Giggling with delight, she happily accepted it, turning it over in her hands as she examined it in wonder. The boy then handed the Eviolite to Samoa, the Croconaw staring hard at the odd stone before taking it. The moment he touched it, however, he felt his skin harden a bit more, making him much tougher than he ever imagined. The Leftovers were given to Dag, who was content to take it up, the apple core dangling from his jaws.
The five Rare Candies were split between his Pokemon, though Samoa greedily swiped two of them and gulped them down before Aiden could even stop him. The remaining three were split between Dag, Annabelle, and Aria, who happily wolfed them down. The Big Mushroom ultimately went to Thalia, even if he probably wouldn’t rely on her too much against Whitney she could still provide clerical support for her teammate. The Sylveon blanched a little at the taste of the mushroom, but willed herself to toughen up and swallow it down. Her eyes lit up as the memory of a move came to her, and felt a newfound confidence in being able to aid her teammates in battle. ✦ ✦

✦ ✦Seemed that his team were looking a bit more up to snuff for taking on Whitney as far as switching up items and learning new moves, still, they needed to train up a bit more and become stronger. Otherwise, Whitney’s Miltank would have very little trouble stomping them all into the dust. Still, if he made some mistakes and ended up losing the first time around, then he would certainly take what he did wrong into account to not make those same slip-ups again. But still, Aiden wasn’t the keenest on losing, but his mother always told him that one can’t always expect to win every battle in life. ”Alright, if that’s pretty much everything then let’s get to training!” he announced with a grin on determination on his face, his Pokemon chiming in with their own means of showing excitement.”I’ll take the lead on this,”Samoa grunted, he was determined to grow stronger so that damn blue dragon wouldn’t be able to hold his strength over him. Sure, he was Mega evolved and all that, but Samoa was determined to prove to Kaizer that he was no weakling compared to him. Sure enough, the moment the Croconaw took a few steps forward, as if by divine destiny a Metapod suddenly fell out of the tree he was under and smacked him right on the head.
”Gah! You little…!”the little crocodile growled, snorting angrily as he faced the green cocoon Pokemon. Annabelle’s chuckling in the background certainly did nothing to ease his annoyance, and Samoa wasted no time in blasting the nuisance Metapod with a high pressed blast of water. The Metapod was flung back quite a few feet, smacking into a tree nearby and tumbling to the ground. It had taken quite a hit, but was still standing, if just barely. The cocoon Pokemon shook angrily in place in the Croconaw’s general direction, its carapace starting to glow with a soft silvery sheen as it toughened up its exoskeleton in preparation for the next blow.”Hmph… Tenacious little bugger, huh?”Samoa huffed, though it clearly didn’t pose all that much of a threat anyways since all it could do was steel itself against his attacks. Not that it would help in the least. The Croconaw sighed softly as he blasted the hardy bug with another large jet of water, sending it flying high and long into the distant bushes.”Hardly a challenge,”he grunted, feeling that it could’ve been a more challenging fight. All things considered, though, it was certainly better than nothing, he could already feel himself growing stronger just from that. ”Nice job, Samoa~” Aiden praised with a warm smile, bending down and gently patting the Croconaw on the head. Samoa growled softly, still keeping his hard demeanor, but leaning just a little into his trainer’s touch. The blonde-haired boy chuckled a little, given how much Samoa acted like his old Typhlosion, he wouldn’t be surprised if perhaps Rocket had somehow gotten reincarnated into the body of a Totodile when he had first acquired him. Considering that Daguerro somehow came back to him despite having been dead for the longest time… maybe that wasn’t as farfetched an idea as he initially thought.
Speaking of Daguerro, he hadn’t noticed the Jolteon had wandered off briefly during the battle until he felt a nudge at his hand. ”Hm?” Aiden hummed inquisitively as he turned, blinking when he noticed Daguerro carrying a small pouch made of some sort of smooth material, ”Find something interesting?” The Jolteon wiggled and nodded eagerly, depositing the pouch in Aiden’s hand. Upon opening the tiny drawstring, inside lay numerous shimmering Heart Scales, six of them at the very least! ”Oh wow… this is quite a lot,” he mumbled to himself, though if no one else was using them… ”Might as well put these to good use then,” the blonde-haired boy concluded with a nod, deciding to keep at least a couple in reserve just in case and holding out the remaining four, ”Here, you guys can divide these among yourselves~” Daguerro yipped and shook his head, deciding to give his to Thalia since she could get more use out of it than he could as he carefully nosed it over to her. Unable to help but blush a little at the Jolteon’s generous offer, the Sylveon gave a soft smile in gratitude and gently touched her nose to the shimmering heart-shaped scale. Her pale blue eyes glistened as the memory of a move came to the forefront of her mind, the scale slowly losing its rainbow-like sheen before it crumbled away into dust. Samoa took one for himself, concentrating on learning the new move as he rubbed it between his fingers before it too lost its sheen and broke apart. Annabelle took the remaining two, feeling giddy as two moves that she felt could come in handy came to fruition in her mind. As the dust from the now crumbling scales blew away in the wind, she noticed something else sitting in the bottom of the drawstring pouch.”Ohhhh? And what’s this?”she chirped, snatching it out of the pouch. It looked to be a capsule of some sort… perhaps there was something in it? Eager at the thought of it being a neat prize of some kind, the Gengar quickly pried open the capsule and found herself immediately sprayed with some kind of odd dust.”E-Eh?! What the heck was that?”she yelped in surprise, flailing around quickly to brush the dust off of her, though it left an odd tingling wherever it had touched her. ”Oh dear, you alright there, Annabelle?” Aiden asked, concern clear in his bright blue eyes as Annabelle got the last of the dust off.”I’m fine! Just fine! No worries at all~ Just feel a little funny from whatever that was,”the Gengar answered quickly, grinning brightly as she flashed a thumbs up, though it was quickly replaced with a slight frown of disappointment and annoyance,”What sort of prize was that, though? I was expecting something a lot better than a blast of dust to the face! Who would even put that in there?!”With a huff, the Gengar tossed the now useless capsule into the brush nearby, serves it right for having nothing worthwhile other than blowing a bunch of crap in her face.✦ ✦

✦ ✦Aiden couldn’t help but smile a bit as Annabelle threw a bit of an annoyed fit before tossing away the remains of the capsule, pouting and crossing her arms just like how a miffed child would. She acted so much like Jessibelle that they possibly could’ve been taken as identical twins if they were both put side-by-side with each other, and if she was still alive today… he was sure they would’ve gotten on just fine together. Thankfully, Annabelle’s soured mood didn’t last for long, as she was soon smiling and cheerfully floating around in the air once again. She was quite the little ball of sunshine, for a Ghost-type at the very least. For now, though, they continued their trek further into Ilex Forest. Samoa and Daguerro took up the front of the party, striding a foot or two ahead of the rest and keeping an eye out for more wild Pokemon. Annabelle and Aria stayed by his side, the Delphox humming happily as she admired the scenery around them while the Gengar flitted around in the air, poking around in the trees just a bit higher up. He let Thalia down from his arms, the Sylveon more than content to walk next to him, holding his hand in one of her soft ribbons. Seras, on the other hand, chose not to move from her perch on Aiden’s shoulder, far too comfortable to move even an inch at the moment. Smiling warmly, the blonde-haired boy reached his free hand up to gently scratch the Mareve behind the ear. Purring softly, she leaned into his touch, nuzzling into his hand contentedly.
Moments later, Daguerro paused, one ear perking up and turning westwards at a sudden disturbance.”Hey… did you hear that?”he yipped, nudging at Samoa to stop him from going too far ahead. The Croconaw quirked a reptilian brow in inquisition and perhaps mild annoyance as he turned towards his spiky Electric companion.”Hm? What are you on about? I didn’t hear a damn thing,”the croc retorted as he folded his arms and directed a sharp glare at the Jolteon, though somehow he felt on edge… as if he could just distantly sense some sort disturbance.”I’m serious! There’s something up around here… I thought I heard something large hit the ground in the distance,”the Jolteon insisted, standing stock still as he warily leveled his gaze in the general direction of the sound,”It sounded like a tree just fell over…”Aiden and the rest of his Pokemon paused mid-step when he realized that Dag and Samoa had stopped. They were looking out into the distant forest west of their position, and seemed to be uneasy… ”What’s up?” he asked, frowning when he noticed the furtive stance Daguerro was in. He’d known the Jolteon long and well enough to understand certain ‘tells’ of his, and that stance meant that something was seriously wrong.
Suddenly, Pokemon started coming out from the nearby brush in herds, great numbers of Zubats, Oddish, Weedle, and Paras clambering out in some sort of major exodus from the western side of the forest. The crowd barreled past Aiden and his party, seemingly in a panic and more concerned about escaping from whatever it was that had chased them all out than trying to attack the young man and his Pokemon. A particularly clumsy Zubat ended up crashing right into Daguerro in the midst of its panic, causing the uneasy Jolteon on a bit of a hair trigger to quickly retaliate with a Thunderbolt and knock it out in an instant. As the herd passed them by and disappeared into the thicket, Aiden stared after them, wondering what it was that could’ve caused so many Pokemon to suddenly flee from one single area simultaneously. Not even moments afterwards, a series of loud thumping noises coming from the west sounded out, growing closer and closer with each passing second. As Aiden turned to look back that way, a large pink and black shape came barreling out of the thicket at, fast, aggressive, and relentless!”Watch it!”Daguerro shouted out, reacting just in time to push Samoa and himself out of the way just as the beast thundered past them, crashing into a tree several feet away and causing the trunk to fracture towards the middle. ”Whoa! What in the world is that?!?” Aiden shouted out, quickly fishing around his bag for the Pokedex to try and identify the strange creature, ”Everyone get ready, this could get bad!” The creature, having been stopped in its charge by the tree, slowly turned around to look in their general direction. It looked like a large bear Pokemon of some sort, even larger than an Ursaring, covered in thick black fur from the neck down while its head was predominantly pink with white on its muzzle and ears. It certainly didn’t look menacing up close, but judging from how it nearly knocked that tree over just from charging into it was an indicator that it was much stronger than it looked. Looking at it up close now, though, Aiden couldn’t help but notice some sort of strange looking collar around its neck. Black, mechanical-looking, with red button-like devices placed at certain points around it. The creature seemed worn out and ragged of breath, its form hunched over like a haggard old man on the verge of collapse as it stared at them distantly. Suddenly, the red devices on the collar emitted a high, piercing shriek that split the air around them, and immediately the beast’s slumped posture vanished as it stood up straight, stomping a foot as it roared loudly in rage.”Arceus, that’s a goddamn ghastly noise if I’ve ever heard one!”Daguerro yelped, gritting his teeth as he and the rest of Aiden’s party quickly shielded their ears against the noise,”No wonder he’s so cheesed off!”It seemed that the noise those devices emitted provoked an aggressive response from the creature whenever it sounded off, Aiden noticed as he kept a close eye on the strange Pokemon. If they could somehow get that collar off, or at least short circuit it so it didn’t work properly… perhaps that would ameliorate the situation and calm it down.✦ ✦

✦ ✦Before Aiden even had a chance to pull out his Dex to try to identify the Pokemon, the enraged beast suddenly charged once again towards Samoa and Daguerro, swinging its tree trunk thick arms around wildly, death in its eyes as it fixated on its targets. Thankfully, the both of them were more than prepared for the attack and quickly dodged out of the way.”Aiden, watch out!”Aria called out, quickly shoving Aiden, Thalia, and Seras out of the way with her telekinesis just as the creature’s charge continued carrying it blindly forward towards them! ”s**t!” Aiden cursed aloud before he even had the chance to stop himself as the charging beast roared right past them, tumbling towards the grass and catching Seras in his arms as she was shaken from her perch, ”It’s okay, I got you…” The shaken Mareve whimpered softly as she pressed closer to him, hiding her face underneath one of her white wings. He quickly glanced over to his right to check on Thalia, feeling relief wash over him as the Sylveon had quickly gotten back on her feet after taking the minor fall.”Aiden!”she called out in worry, immediately running over towards him and nudging at him to try to get him to stand up. Just as well too, because it seemed like the frenzied creature was coming back around for another attack! ”Dag! Thunderbolt that collar it’s wearing, now!” he shouted out, trying to stagger to his feet quickly to get out of the way before he got trampled. Not hesitating for a moment, the Jolteon came dashing from behind the blonde-haired boy, fur sparking and crackling with electrical energy as he ran towards the charging Pokemon. Before they could collide, however, Daguerro quickly veered off and skirted around the side of it, directing a concentrated Thunderbolt right at the collar around the bear-like creature’s neck as to hopefully not harm it too much. The beast let out a low, pained groan as electricity coursed through its system from the metal conducting the electrical attack, its movements becoming much slower and clumsier than before and allowing Aiden ample time to get back on his feet and sidestep to avoid its path. The collar, however, didn’t fare quite as well as sparks leapt out from it, the shrill alarming noise from the devices sounding distorted and staticky as the overload of electricity short circuited them, the noise droning on for several moments before cutting out completely.
Before the bear-like Pokemon even reached where Aiden had been standing before, it gradually came to a full halt right in its tracks, folding in on itself as its exhaustion seemed to finally catch up with it. For a brief moment, it looked up towards the blonde-haired boy, any and all traces of rage and bloodlust in its eyes having disappeared, replaced by sheer relief and gratitude. Suddenly, its eyes closed fully, and it collapsed to the ground in a crumpled heap where it stood. ”Is everyone alright?” Aiden asked as he glanced around towards his team, his heart still pounding relentlessly in his chest as he slowly came down from the adrenaline high.”Everything’s hunky-dory over here, cap’n!”Daguerro barked happily, striking a confident pose as he nodded towards his trainer. Aria held a hand over her heart, more than relieved that the situation was over now.”Everyone’s more or less fine from the looks of it, Aiden. No one got injured during that whole fiasco,”she chimed in, though she glanced over towards the collapsed bear Pokemon with a pitying look,”Samoa, sweetheart, could you help me out here for a second?”The Croconaw huffed softly, rolling his eyes a bit at being called ‘sweetheart’, but otherwise complied as he moved to join Aria as they approached the fallen beast. Thankfully, from what she could see it was just unconscious, its chest moving up and down as it seemed to be in blissful sleep. Pulling out her fiery wand, she carefully held the flaming end close to the collar to heat it up as much as she could without accidentally catching the Pokemon’s fur on fire.”Now use Ice Punch to freeze your hands and pull it apart right here,”she directed gently as the area was barely starting to glow red from the heat.
With a curt nod, Samoa clenched his hands, focusing the power of ice into them as he felt them slowly crusting over with thick ice. He then grabbed onto the glowing hot area of the collar, the contact of ice to heat melting the frost around his hands a little and sending up a small burst of steam. Utilizing every ounce of strength he had, he twisted the weakened piece until it broke in two in his hands.”There, should be simple to take it off from there,”he bluntly commented, peeling the rest of the collar from around the beast’s neck and immediately chucking it into the bushes. All the while, Aiden had gotten the chance to pull out his Pokedex to scan and identify the strange Pokemon.”Bewear, the Strong Arm Pokemon. This Pokemon is considered extremely dangerous due to its immense strength, even just receiving a friendly hug from a Bewear could potentially be fatal if it squeezes too tightly,”the voice from the Dex informed, Aiden humming softly as he took in this new information. ”Bewear, huh?” he murmured to himself, glancing over towards it as it lay there, slumbering quietly after undoubtedly being subjected to hours of torture and exhaustion on a regular basis. It must’ve been a test subject that had been previously incarcerated in a Void lab, if that odd collar it had been wearing was anything to go off of. It had likely been forcibly trained to go berserk like that in the presence of loud noises, hence why the collar was manufactured to sound off that alarm to force those aggressive reactions to kick in. What a horrible existence… Void was going to pay for this. He vaguely remembered that there was a Void lab somewhere around here in Ilex… someone, a grunt he and Natalia had run into named Jet had mentioned something about it before he ran off. Though… if they had been traveling through time and it was years later, Aiden had no doubt that they might have already packed up and left by now. Still, it probably couldn’t hurt to comb through what still remained, they might have left some Pokemon behind too.
”You’re okay now, buddy,” Aiden soothed gently as he crouched down next to the Bewear, pulling out a few Potions and spraying it over to heal any wounds it sustained, ”They won’t hurt you anymore, I promise…” The Bewear was already looking quite a bit better as he sprayed it down with the Potions, not as roughed up and bruised as it had been before. However, as he did his work, he hadn’t noticed the Bewear starting to wake up as its eyes slowly opened. For a moment, it just lay there, still as a statue, as it tried to get its bearings and regain some of its strength back. However, it noticed it was feeling so much better than it had been moments ago, and as it shifted its gaze it just now noticed the young man with blonde hair who appeared to healing it. The Bewear’s eyes lit up in recognition, that boy had been the trainer who had helped it out, and it couldn’t feel that thrice-damned collar around its neck anymore. It didn't even have to think twice to know that this boy had been the one who had rescued it. Before Aiden knew it, the Bewear suddenly rolled over towards him, and he found himself unexpectedly being tackled and enveloped in a tight, fluffy hug.”FFUUUUURREEEENNNND~!!!”a cheerful and clearly male voice bellowed out in very guttural but audible English, the Bewear clearly more than happy to thank his savior in the only way he could possibly think of.✦ ✦

✦ ✦Before Aiden could even have a second to react, he found himself being tackled and pulled into a firm hug by the Bewear as it happily declared him its friend. The suddenness of the hug had surprised Aiden more than anything, though it was definitely much too tight for comfort. He could already feel his bones groaning in discomfort from the pressure, he would surely be crushed into oblivion if the Bewear hugged any tighter than this. And considering that the Dex had told him not long ago how fatal this Pokemon’s hugs could be, he’d need to act fast or else he wouldn’t be alive for much longer. ”Heh, g-glad you’re… alright now, b…buddy,” he managed to get out, gasping for breath in between words as he patted the Bewear on the arm, ”Y-You’re kinda… hugging me… too tightly, though…!” Almost immediately, the pressure on his body was released all at once as the Bewear dropped him, the bear Pokemon staggering back a bit as he fiddled with his paws and seemed to become very anxious suddenly.”Sssoooorrryyy…”he growled out apologetically, dragging out the word like someone trying to speak around a mouthful of honey,”Mooogwaaiii glaaad fiiinaaallyyy meeeet niiiccce trrrraaaiinnneeer…”It was clear the Bewear could speak relatively decent, if somewhat broken, English, though he had a tendency to drag out vowels and certain consonants like ‘n’, and ‘s’. Aiden couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Void or perhaps a past trainer had taught this Bewear how to speak, it certainly seemed like the poor thing had gone through a lot if he was the first nice trainer that it had come across for the longest time.
”Well, I can certainly assure you that we are friends~” Aiden reassured with a warm smile, taking a few steps closer towards the Bewear but maintaining reasonable distance, ”You have a name?” He could’ve sworn he had heard the Bewear refer to himself as ‘Mogwai’, since he appeared to talk about himself in the third person. The bear Pokemon’s ears perked up at the question, and he stopped fiddling his paws around as he stood up a bit straighter and nodded in response.”Naaame Mooogwaaaiii,”the Bewear, Mogwai, answered, gesturing towards himself affirmatively with one paw, before pointing the same paw towards Aiden inquisitively,”Whaaaat yyyoouurrr naaame?”The blonde haired boy smiled softly at the confirmation, dipping his head towards the Bewear respectfully. ”Well then, it’s very nice to meet you, Mogwai. I’m Aiden~” he reciprocated brightly, tilting his head slightly in questioning, ”Is that the name you were given by your old trainer?” Mogwai gazed at Aiden curiously, growling softly under its breath as it took in this new information.”Aaaaiiideeen…”the Bewear rumbled out, testing the name out in that deep, slow, slightly droning voice of his before nodding in response to the second question with a solemn, saddened look on his face,”Yyyeeesss, ooold maaasssteeer caaall meee Mooogwaaaaiii, beeefooorrrre Mooogwaaaiii taaakeeen byyy meeennn innn blaccck.”
Men in black… That definitely confirmed Aiden’s suspicions that this Bewear had been a former test subject of Team Void. He couldn’t even begin to imagine what might’ve happened with Mogwai’s old trainer, if maybe Void had killed them and stolen all of their Pokemon for their own use, or maybe Mogwai and his friends had been sold off to Void or else his master would’ve been killed… Still, he was sure it was a pretty sensitive topic to delve into, and Mogwai might not feel comfortable divulging that information to someone he considered a friend but had only just met. ”I’m really sorry about what happened to you, Mogwai, it must’ve been so terrible for you there…” Aiden spoke softly, sympathy clear in his voice as he offered a small warm smile towards the Bewear, ”Still, if you really have nowhere else to go, you’re more than welcome to join my team~” As soon as he spoke those words, the Bewear’s eyes immediately lit up, his thick tail waving happily behind him as he clapped his paws in delight.”Mooogwaaaiii joooiiinnn Aaaiiideeennn!”he bellowed out joyfully, feeling happy to have hopefully found a new place to call home. Aiden flashed a bright grin as he pulled out a Pokeball, holding it up and out in offering to the Bewear. Growling contentedly, Mogwai tapped the button of the ball and allowed himself to be captured as he vanished inside. He seemed like he had been through a lot, Aiden was sure that the Bewear deserved a nice long rest after that whole ordeal.”A new teammate, huh? Well, we could always use some new blood around here~”Aria chimed in, nodding towards Aiden’s bag as he put Mogwai’s Pokeball away,”Not to mention a Fighting-type could be quite useful against Whitney as well~”Aiden nodded in agreement, though Mogwai might be a bit too weak to really be much help when it came time to face Whitney, he would need a lot more training otherwise. Still, having another teammate certainly couldn’t hurt at all, and that was what mattered most at the end of the day.
”Well, let’s get back to training then, shall we?” he suggested with a small smile, though now that he thought about it… Maybe while he was out here he could find and scout out the area where that Void base was, if they were long gone by now then maybe he wouldn’t have to worry so much about possibly falling back under Void’s radar again. If it was possible that those bastards had lost track of them, then maybe it’d be best to try and lay low for a while. As they started once again to head further into Ilex Forest, Aiden could feel a familiar shiver down his spine as that sensation of a sharp, piercing pair of eyes gazing out at him from the distance, hidden among leaves, branches, and brush. He glanced over this way and that quickly, trying to catch a glimpse or who or what was watching him so intently, and seeing no one else in sight just made him all the more anxious. If Team Void was still out there, watching him from somewhere within the forest, then he was probably completely screwed… Still, he tried to brush it off, placing his hands into the pockets of his coat in a forcefully casual manner as he walked alongside his Pokemon.✦ ✦
