Sammy kept her gaze fixed in front of her, but every so often she'd steal a glance back at the orb. If it was made by mages...that meant there might be others like her too. Wait, did he say, worlds? "What does the map say?" she asked Xashowd, noticing his attention there. So far she couldn't see or sense the astrolabe, and while she didn't expect to get lucky on the first try she didn't rule it out. One had to be precise, so she kept herself alert.

"It says 'Bwre t bbrwk', but there's a lot of letters missing. Not sure what it could be, but since this is a Haunted House it'd have to be something the old owners thought would scare people." Xashowd replied. "Durrr." Thanaphyr stated. "But what's not Durr is that message. Only thing I can think of is that 'Bwre' must mean 'Beware'. Not sure about the rest, though...But beware is kinda stereotypical for a place like this." Xashowd kept scanning while Thanaphyr did the same. The Reapling looked back towards Gwen, wondering if their werewolf friend was picking up anything. "Smell anything out of the ordinary?" He inquired.

Shaking his head, he just chuckles at her words as she crunches over the pieces.
"Alright, as long as you are sure you will be fine."
Mulling it over a little more as she joined him, he did nod. No point in simply wondering if the astrolabe was to be found. Some chances would have to be taken.
"Perhaps, though I hate to ask you to do something I can do myself. Oh? Rai can do that?"
His gaze moved to the star, squinting at it. Gazing back at her, he blinked a few times as if to clear away too much brightness.
"That could help. Will he be brighter?"
Part of him hated to ask, but it was going to be hard to look in that direction if he was any brighter. His hand appeared to move along the blank wall, again he debated simply going through and checking.
"Really this will all be a moot point if we find the backing has not been moved. Thus we should just check if it seems to be easily moved first."

((Thank you, I do try. ))

"Back when I was on Earth, I always used to say 'my middle name is careful!' whenever someone would tell me to be careful. I was very small then.." Her voice trailed off, unsure of whether to continue that train of thought. It wasn't a particularly happy time in her life, but there was no sense in dwelling on it now. She's not even sure what made her think of it. Putting it out of her mind for the time being, the princess just shrugs.

"Rai can do a lot of things, especially if I ask him." Sensing the smokey figure was uncomfortable with how bright he was, Rai dimmed his light to a more comfortable flicker. It didn't bother the princess, she was used to his light. It would bother her if he were to suddenly disappear off on his own, but he would never leave her in such a strange place, even with a friend she trusted. It wasn't distrust of Toby, simply worry that his princess might get herself into some kind of trouble. A perpetual worry for this celestial guardian.

"Hm? No, he won't be brighter. He doesn't shine at all in human form, that is, unless he wants to. Besides, I'm sure he'd be more worried about accidentally breathing on us than blinding us with his light." Should Toby ask, Rae would only be too happy to tell him why that was. He had a good point though. They should make sure they could move it before making other assumptions.

"Alright. Did you want to do the honors, or shall I?" Ravena was tiny, but as they say, big things often came in small packages. She wasn't very physically strong; her strength relied upon her knowledge and gift with magic. Whatever decision Toby made, she would go along with it. Either way, she was poised to help him with the mirror backing should he ask.

"I see. "
It was rather obvious she didn't want to continue discussing what that statement she made reminded her of. Thus he let it be and noticing Rai dim, he gazed at the star again.
"Sounds like a helpful and faithful one. Breathing on us? I wager he then has more than just a case of forgot to brush after a garlic heavy meal breath?"
His gaze stayed on the star a moment before returning to her.
"I shall give it a try. Be ready to get out of the way and possibly out of here should this seem to jeopardize the stability of this place."
One couldn't be too sure of things when the place already seemed to be in decay. Making himself solid, he carefully tested the backing. Pressing and pushing a little, he found it did move and revealed a small mirror less space.
Shifting to get a better look, he could see a few blankets, pillows, and.. Were those names enclosed in a heart? His gaze shifted about more and written in several spots in marker were similar such things.
Standing, he chuckled and shook his head.
"If we found nothing else, we can say we found a make out spot."
With another small chuckle, he moved so she could get a look. This particular spot seemed a less than likely hiding spot, if in only that one could not be sure when someone might come to frequent it. It could be checked, but he doubted this particular part of the House of Mirrors was where they would find the astrolabe.

"I couldn't smell s**t if it was right in front of me with how much dust there is in here. Cloggin' my nose up." It was extremely dusty and she was doing her damn hardest not to sneeze and kick up even more dust, constantly rubbing at her nose and occasionally eyes. She had lowered her hood to be able to hear better, pointed ears now in the open. "Second word on the map might be 'the', thou- ah... ACHOO!" She sneezes hard, stumbling into the wall as she goes through a sneezing fit, her nose trying to get the dust out. She buries the lower half of her face into her scarf to try and keep new dust from getting up her nose. "W-why... Are abandoned places... So ********' dusty..!" Her words are muffled and broken up by sneezes as she looks around with watering eyes.

"... Yes, game booths. Away from the destruction someone might try to blame me for despite not being near it for once." She also didn't want to get the two cuties anywhere they could get hurt. Which was honestly everywhere in an abandoned theme park... But she was most certainly not letting them near collapsing rides.

"I think it's nature laying its mark. That, or the particles of the wood that are falling apart just go everywhere and build up and stuff." Thanaphyr replied. " 'Beware the' something or other...but what the heck is a bbrwk?" Xashowd recalled the map's holes. "I don't think it's a bbrwk...There were two holes in front of the Bs, one between the Bs and R, and two between the W and K. So it's a ten letter word." He explained as they walked down the hall. "So all we have to do is fill in the blanks? Man...I wish we had a hint or something." Thanaphyr stated.

As he said that, a low rumble resonated beneath their feet. Xashowd stopped, listening to the rumble which faded as fast as it appeared. "Hmmm..."

"Hmm? Hmm!? Dude, please tell me that was the house settling..." Thanaphyr said nervously. Xashowd shook his head. "I'm not sure...It didn't sound like wood." The Reapling frowned. "Oh come on...It's gotta be a hoax or something. This is a Haunted House, for Death's sake..." He said, though he did take a look around. Xashowd's brow furrowed in thought. Thanaphyr had said the previous owners wanted the fairgrounds to be an authentic experience...he wouldn't be surprised if they went the extra mile. Between the message and the rumble, the was certainly something in the basement. Whether it was a parlor trick or something very real, that was the question. Xashowd only hoped it was friendly.

Hearing her friend having a tough time like that, Sammy reached in her apron pocket and produced a soft, cotton handkerchief with a pink flower embroidered in the corner. She made a habit of keeping one with her ever since winter hit. "Here." she said, offering it to Gwen. "It's okay, it's clean." As she hit a fork in the road, Sammy paused and turned back to face the others in the narrow hall. "Beware of the bbrwk..." She echoed him quietly, thinking. She knew it couldn't be too hard to figure out. She'd faced enough dark creatures at this point, she ought to be able to venture a guess. "Sounds like...Jabberwock." As soon as she said it her hand flew up and covered her mouth, stifling a gasp. "...please excuse me." Turning right, she ran toward the sound, determined to get to the basement before the creature burst through and found them. Once in a while a dead end tried to fool her on the way but the light of the orb revealed the trick for what it was and kept her on the right path. She didn't exactly know what she planned to do when she got there, but her instincts urged her to clear the path for her friends. She must have appeared crazy, a girl with a broken arm and no known history of heroics running toward the hazard, but she blocked all that out and focused until she located the basement door - or rather, hatch - and pulled it open on its hinges.

OOC: Can't believe I got that. XD

Gwen takes the handkerchief gratefully, quickly clearing her nose out and stopping the sneezes. She then arranges her scarf over the lower half of her face to hopefully prevent a repeat. "Not so clean anymore. Sorr- Where are ya goin'!?" The werewolf darts after Sammy, highly displeased that the human had run off without them. She didn't know what the heck a Jabberwock was, but she doubted Sammy could handle it very well with just one arm if it was real and not a fake. "One of the main causes of deaths in horror movies and games is people going off on their own!"

*Nice! Guess things will be going quickly*

"A JABBERWOCK!?" Thanaphyr practically shouted as Sammy ran off on her own. Xashowd wasted no time in following her and Gwen, who also ran after her. His vampiric speed made it easy to keep up with the two of them, while Thanaphyr floated along as fast as he could, occasionally phasing through walls to keep up. After numerous twists and turns, they reached a hatch in the floor that Sammy opened in front of them. "Gwen has a point, you know. And if this Jabberwock is real, we need to be cautious." Xashowd stated. He'd only encountered one Jabberwock on another world, but had read up on them afterwards. Dark Dragons they were, and extremely hard to kill. Only Vorpal Weaponry, powerful Magic, or a Reaper's Scythe could slay them. Xashowd was only a Reaper-in-Training, so his Scythe hadn't been enchanted with Death's magic, and last he checked they didn't even have a Vorpal Dagger around. That left his Wind Magic and Thanaphyr if it came to a fight, and he wasn't sure if his magic was powerful enough to fell a Jabberwock. They needed to exercise caution. "Yeah! Those buggers are nasty." Thanaphyr added, as another low rumble shook the floor, with a foul wind blowing forth from the hole. "Eeeewww...either the owners put in a rank fog machine, or that bugger's real. Their breath isn't exactly rose scented." The Reapling stated, peering into the hole. "So, uh...Who's going first?"

Sammy wasn't listening. It was one of those rare streaks of fearlessness she got when a job had to be done. Part of her realized there was a chance the beast was purely mechanical, but measures had to be taken regardless. Without saying a word she jumped down without using the ladder and landed neatly in a crouched position. Fumbling the orb, it rolled out of her grasp, dimly illuminating parts of the large room as it went. As it slowed to a stop, it tapped against something hard...and...claw shaped... Expression steeled, Sammy looked up the leg of the beast, its features gradually diminishing into the shadows until she got to the eyes, emitting a piercing red glow. As she stared it down in those brief seconds she realized something. If there was ever a place to hide an astrolabe, it would be here. Her good hand clenched into a tight fist by her side as the creature's jaws gaped and emitted a jarring bellow.

"Welp, there she goes...is she always like this?" Thanaphyr inquired as Xashowd jumped down after her. He hit bottom just as the Jabberwock roared at Sammy...a roar that ended in a yawn. Xashowd tilted his head then looked around. There was a fair amount of dust on the Jabberwock, yet none along the underside of its neck. It must've been sleeping... He thought as the Jabberwock stared at Sammy, its eyes scanning her for any sign of hostility. "Sammy! Don't provoke it!" He shouted, unsure if she would hear him given her lack of response earlier. The Jabberwock picked up the Lumosphere that had rolled near its feet, turning it over in one large claw. As the Jabberwock was Dark Elemental, the Lumosphere dimmed a bit, though the Jabberwock never took its eyes off of Sammy. It sat there and waited to see what would happen next. Xashowd could tell it was confident and calm. After all...few people ever messed with a Jabberwock.

A flurry of thoughts crossed her mind in that moment. Staring the beast in the face, it certainly looked real...the presence it had, it certainly felt real... Only...why would a map printed for all the park goers warn them of an actual monster? Why would they want to use something that deadly as an attraction? Either it was a fake...it was a fake somehow turned real with dark magic, or it was real all along and the sole reason for the park being closed. She couldn't be sure, but one way or another, it had to be dealt with. Still can't transform... she thought. But then she wasn't one for preemptive strikes either. Swallowing hard, she started to move casually around the beast, keeping it in her sights but otherwise ignoring it. She was...looking for the astrolabe?

The Jabberwock kept an eye on Sammy as she walked around it. After a few moments, it huffed and turned its attention on the Lumosphere, deeming her no threat and focusing instead on a new object for its hoard. Xashowd walked slowly towards the Jabberwock, hoping to walk around it on the other side. When he got close enough, the dragon lifted its head sharply, staring at him. "It's okay, we're not here to hurt you." Xashowd said in a gentle tone. Convulsions rumbled through the Jabberwock's throat, as though it were laughing at him. "Of course not, little vampire. You couldn't scratch me if you desired so." It responded.

Wait...it responded?

Xashowd stared for a moment. He knew dragons of all kinds were capable of speech, but he'd never had a Jabberwock talk to him before. It's voice was deep and smooth, like a skilled orator. Xashowd regained his composure and wondered if he should ask it about the Astrolabe. It was very possible that the Jabberwock had seen it, but it was also likely it had thus claimed it, and guarded it in its hoard. Dragons were very protective of their hoards...one wrong move could mean a battle with a potentially cranky Jabberwock. And Xashowd did not like the idea of being pelted with violet lightning bolts...He and Thunder Magic didn't mix well.

While Xashowd had the creature temporarily distracted, Sammy was free to move around and search for the ancient relic. She couldn't sense it, which meant little since her instincts were occupied tracking the biggest energy in the room, that of the jabberwock. As she circled around the perimeter she came upon dusty bookshelves and old, rotten trunks...or made convincingly to look rotten. Unbeknownst to her, she started to glow dimly again, the extra light coming in handy in deducing what occupied the various units. Sammy pursed her lips, concentrating. She winced slightly to hear the creature's booming voice again, but weirder yet to speak actual words... She started to turn, but quickly stopped herself, focusing back on the task at hand. Nothing was happening...no need to worry...yet...
