April 3rd, 2018: Lanzer 2sammygate featureswould you be able to implement a scaling https? where it uses the most security your browser can use? reddit and wikipedia have it. i don't know how complicated it is to upgrade, though. We haven't been able to find time to implement it yet. Is there a specific browser that is not working with Gaia right now? Sorry if I've forgotten if I've asked.

April 10th, 2018: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: Items? Can someone please state the official policy for price-jacking your own user-creator items? I know it's a reportable offense in the Exchange, but what about on the MP? We do not allow you to bid up your own item on the MP, that's deceptive. Quote: Gamesif your in zomg and you bring your mule acct in to the same crew is that a bannable offense? some say it don't matter, some say it is and some say it depends on your record with gaia can someone please clarify this game rule? We don't enforce a rule like that.

May 22nd, 2018: Zero Omega Naelynne While I have your attention, would you mind answering one more question? It's alright if you're too busy or if this doesn't get answered because it's not in the format of the Ask the Staff. Will Gaia be appending its offsite advertising rules for things like Discord or Twitch, or will linking to those sites (or sites like them) be allowed? Thank you so much for answering my question and good luck to the new moderator teams! Technically offsite advertising applies to everything that is linking to a site that isn't Gaia Online and can be enforced as such. However we typically allow leeway for things that aren't direct competitors or might otherwise harm the community. As a result, we generally allow linking to Twitch, Discord, YouTube. Zero Omega Marcelio Sanchez II MiscDoes reporting a user for trolling, intimidation, threats, flaming, and bullying, malicious intent, stalking inside a Flash space (including zOMG) can get the person suspected to be doing that bad things be grounds for a temporary ban or a mute? zOMG is getting a lot of complaints in the community that some people are being harsh, mean or bad and some being elitistic to other people within the game although they haven't done anything wrong. Reporting and Ignoring aren't working well against it. What's your point on this? P.S- Report button in zOMG doesnt work. Only context and looking at the report can say for sure what would happen to the person, but generally if it is an actual abusive situation, then some form of punishment is issued against the user. Unfortunately we are backlogged in our flash space area reports, so we likely haven't had a chance to see the reports in question.

June 5th, 2018: Zero Omega khionna Features: RunwayAny updates on the banning of vote begging in CB? It's been a while since I have asked or heard anything on this. Not at the moment unfortunately, but it is on my list of policies that need to be reviewed and discussed. Zero Omega khionna Features: RunwayIs there any chance of getting more mods to check runway for abuse/cheating? The ones who currently do so do a great job, but they sometimes have other obligations and can't always check the pools. This sometimes leaves days, weeks, or even months without mod intervention and makes users discouraged from entering. We are adding new mods to the team in general, so I would like to look into getting more to help out with Runway as we continue to add new mods.

June 12th, 2018: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: SiteCan the Hacking, Scamming, and Abuse/Harassment report links be moved from the bottom of the forums page to the top? Maybe in the same area as the My Posts/Topics links? Some users don't scroll down that far on the forums page and may not realize those links are there. Having them in a more visible spot may help cut down on the number of users mistakenly filing tickets for issues that need to be submitted in a report. We can certainly look into making that change.

June 26th, 2018: Riyokuma Happy _Tropical_Flower Gaia Online Features/Reporting PageIs there any chance that in the future can we please get an option of reporting a thread for being necro'd? I just saw a thread in SF that got necro'd for 2014 and I believe it is still up and not binned. It's hard to tell a moderator about the problem if there is no reporting option for a necro'd thread. Thank you! emotion_kirakira You can report that as Spamming since necro-ing a thread is a form of spam! Zero Omega We probably won't add a specific "necro'd thread" reporting option because we have a system that prevents old threads from being posted in in most forums. SF was an exception forum because there could be valid reasons to bring back an old thread. If you feel a thread has run its course and is being necro'd for no reason, you can just report it as "spamming" and the team will review it.

July 10th, 2018: Zero Omega 2sammygate misci'm desperate for a dev right now. on my pi of trinity account, i was giftbombed by literally a million hacked/botted items (hacked becausethey used an exploit to either give themselves infinite wing stickers, or to buy treehouse items with gold and botted because they sent 10,000 hundred packs, not possible for a human in a reasonable time period) and my inventory is almost unusable. i contacted mods immediately after finding out, but even the omni mods can't do anything cause they can't load my inventory either to delete them. a developer has to do this server-side (to straight-delete the items from my invo). now, the mods have informed the staff about this, but things are slow (likely due to working on the summer event). my inventory is getting more and more corrupted every day. i really want all this stuff gone so i can use my inventory again crying tl;dr- giftbombed with a million hacked/botted items on pi of trinity account, inventory mostly inaccessible even to omnimods, need a dev to edit my inventory server-side Interesting. Well I deleted 10,000 of the item but you still have approximately over 1 million of them left. So... Went ahead and let dev know so they can run a script to delete all the copies so I can avoid getting carpel tunnel deleting 5000 of them at a time.

July 17th, 2018: Jak Bauer LetTheEaglesSoar Why is moderation so lax? There are so many trolls, flamers, haters, everywhere I go and my reports never go anywhere and I rarely get a response and the rule-breaking posts stay up. Compared to websites like reddit this forum system is very offputting to newcomers Hi there, Not every report requires a response to you about it. Most of the time the issue is just noted and, if needed, dealt with. This isn't a slight against you, just efficiency at work smile

Zero Omega Pianette Features - RunwaySemi-related to last question Regarding cheating, and people being caught doing so, will there ever be more drastic measures taken for those accounts caught multiple times? Simply nuking people's votes doesn't seem like enough of a deterrent for those that continue to cheat :/ There are definitely discussions that the team wants to have about how to further deal with cheaters if we find that there are multiple instances of cheating, once we have something solidified we'll announce it.

August 28th, 2018: Lanzer Happy _Tropical_Flower THANK YOU!Lanzer, THANK YOU for randomizing items in Dumpster Dive! Way to take the power away from those trolls only dumping stuff in DD just for the lulz or whatever else they were trying to prove. gonk Thank you so much again! emotion_kirakira I'll also put some time to monitor and prevent any single item type form overwhelming the system in a later patch. Lanzer lilloulou Features:During the day, would it be possible to stop showing the Top 5 in the Runway? You could always switch to a test period with random avatars for a moment to see how it does first. Why? 1. To prevent cheating once and for all. If people doesn't know how high the highest votes are, they wouldn't be able to try to upvote their own avatar without making it look like they are cheating. 2. To prevent people from not voting for entries in the Top 5 just because they are in the Top 5. In short, it's to make it more "unbiased" to the current results. I can change it to show random avatars from the top 50% of high performers, and hide the number of votes, if that will create a more fair environment. Lanzer 2sammygate featureswhat causes the CAPTCHA to troll users and consistently give the "click until none remain" ones? Google has their own algorithm to think whether an IP address can be trusted more than others, and also depends on cookie information stored on your browser. Either certain IP address change, or some cookie information refused to save by the browser or its extensions can cause such problems, and I only named a few.

September 11th, 2018: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: Forums:When I report a blatant ad for some external website posted in the Extended Discussion of all places, how long should it take before the ad is taken down? Today I tried to report a miracle-weight-loss website ad, and I triggered the "already reported" message (I thought it looked familiar). That means it has been about 24 hours. After 24 hours, should I PM a mod or just be patient because thread deletions and perma-bans take time? We likely didn't have any mods looking at ED reports at the time, it looks like it might be cleaned up at this time but that is the likely reason it was there after 24 hours. Lanzer ElegantlyLuminous Ah-ha. I remembered the question that I was forgetting. emotion_facepalm Also, belatedly: hi, staff! Games -- LKI asked a few months ago about the status of two projects for LK (switching avi captcha avatars from closet to favorites and a potential art contest for a new loading screen). ATS 7/10. They were added to what I'm sure is already a lengthy to-do list. (It might not sound like it, but I swear I do appreciate everything that all of you do on the site. Truly. You're all wonderful.) However, because I love the game and the community, I wanted to ask: any updates on these two? I actually looked into using favorites on avi captcha, but the system was different enough that it was pretty hard to implement. Though after the server migration it might be much easier to call up the image and metadata. I'll look into it again next month. The new art contest should happen in the near future.

September 18th, 2018: Zero Omega Meromictic miscSo this post is being interpreted that you will take offsite information to warn or ban users. Is this going to be for all violations and what type of evidence are you accpeting? Additionally, if there is now a goal to make this a "safer" site, why are you stopping at just a PSA? For example, there are still hangouts in the CB with some pretty demeaning titles which host plenty of problems. Who happens to be interpreting it that way? Would be happy to have a longer discourse with someone about that. In general though, no, we still do not accept off-site information as a means of issuing warns/bans. However, when allegations such as this are levied against someone then we'll review any evidence someone has and establish what might be the correct call to make given the evidence and the case. Essentially, if such heavy allegations will be made, then feel free to send everything you have, we'll investigate it, and then see if there is anything we can do to corroborate the evidence with information on Gaia. We're not stopping at a PSA, I definitely feel there is likely more that we can and should do, content on the site we need to review, figure out as a company if we want our content policies to change, and more. The PSA is simply a good starting point that you had included in your thread that rang out as a really smart, and low-hanging fruit, thing to implement.

September 25th, 2018: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: Forums What are the odds of new accounts being given the three day wait before posting in forums or pming people just like we already have for towns and marketplace? That's probably not something we will implement as that would definitely impede with the user experience we want new users to have which is to get right into posting. Zero Omega Sir Dark Hat Forums? IdkWhen we're reporting spammers in forums outside the Chatterbox, if the same user is doing multiple threads, are we supposed to report every thread or just one? You can report one thread and link to the rest of them in your report that you're filling out. Lanzer Just one is sufficient, mods can remove all threads from a spammer.

October 9th, 2018: Zero Omega Bunster Keaton MiscI plan on modeling zOMG creatures (namely OMGs) in 3-D would be alright to use them in my portfolio with proper crediting? Our general policy is so long as you are not using our assets to profit or using them for commercial use, then it's fine. Zero Omega Vigilia Zero Omega Vigilia Features/General:In light of some of the recent 'outing' threads that have been made, will there be a PSA on how to handle such matters properly? Yup, I initially suggested we start with some general information about how to report off-site matters, what Gaia can do (as we noticed a lot of this activity was happening off-site but with regards to Gaians), and then general information on how to protect yourself, but realized that we could (and should) go a little more in-depth with the information we want to present. So we're planning one out that we hope will have a lot of useful information for everyone in terms of how to deal with these incidents, what to do, protecting yourself, identifying persons who may be trying to engage in this activity, where to get help, how to get help, and more. Along with that updating our Info for Parents and other pages with this updates information as well. Thank goodness. I hope this could put an end to throwing such matters out in public, since it generates a negative, uncomfortable atmosphere when it's not entirely something that gaia can do anything about the specific claims being made. And also helpful for any users that just aren't that aware of internet safety and how to properly report these things. I greatly appreciate you are going more in depth with it. :3 No problem! I agree that the nature of "outing" threads is negative, even if it does alert us to situations that we may not be aware of. We ultimately want to foster a safe environment for Gaians but understand that due to the nature of the internet we can't be everywhere and can't enforce it on every site and program. People will always use other means to try and get what they want. However, we can do a better job of surfacing information that users should know and letting them know how we can help. That's why when this initially came up I was quick to want to put out an informational thread, but knew that something quick and incomplete would just lead to us having to do even more adjustments. So instead of rushing it out, we want to take a little bit more time and make sure the information we present is accurate, complete, and helpful which means taking a little more time to do more thorough research.
